The staff is very friendly and pleasant. The chicken soup with Pico de Gallo is very good and now the only thing I would eat here. I ordered the peril with yellow rice. The pernil was all fat and was not edible. There are pictures of the meal included. I spent over 20 dollars on a meal I could not eat. The yellow rice is the most bland yellow rice I have ever tasted. My co-workers agree and do not order the yellow rice. You can buy prepackaged yellow rice which will taste better. Also, the prices are never the same. I thought maybe at first it had to do with the daily specials, however you can order the same dish on the same day and it may be a different price.

Nice spot for takeout lunch or dinner. They have a small seating area but would only recommend to use to eat and leave. Traffic is high in and out, which means food is good, but many people around your food. Nice authentic Spanish taste and flavors. Was referred to try this place by a coworker, and we finally went together. The food was so good (rotisserie chicken, white rice with pinto beans and platanos), I almost fell asleep after...lol. Will definitely be back!

Most delicious breakfast menu - you can’t go wrong with the veggie omelette in a wrap! I sometimes add avocado or cheese, it’s a tasty start to the morning. The staff is also so nice and the food is always ready very quickly!

I love this place. Food is always consistently fresh. My go-to order is the salmon and yellow rice, which tastes amazing. Food is a bit on the pricey side, but it's so worth it.

Scrambled egg with sandwiches are amazing and they’re a small meal that makes me full. Good for lunch breaks. I would definitely recommend this place.

This was my go-to spot for lunch when I used to work around the corner over 15 years ago, circa 2009. Then, last year, I visited the place and came to tears to find the same delicious, consistent flavors and good lunch deals. It was a great nostalgic experience. The salmon used to be served in steak cuts back then. Now, they offer fillets, but equally delicious.

I'm obsessed, clean tasty food I've had their seafood soup and beef barley 😋 yummy not salty. Rotisserie chicken and pinto beans yummy goodness 😋 empanada packed and filled. Flan good. You can't go wrong when eating here.

I went today for a salad, the cashier was not a nice towards me at all. She was aggressive asking me if I'm ready to pay and then just took the money handed me my bag. But when this hispanic man approaches the counter her demeanor changed to "hola como estas " why wasn't i treated the same, i felt like i was being rushed to get out by the short female cashier. Im never coming back here. My first and last time. I take it very serious how i am treated by an establishment and i will not continue giving my money to people who lack basic customer service. Ill be sure to tell the office to avoid going there for lunch as well.

Great food and great service! Love their make your own meal option. I always get a great piece of salmon with grilled veggies and a side of mac n' cheese for lunch. Also, a cheese empanada w a side of the green sauce when I'm in a hurry!

I ordered from here via UberEats and got scrambled eggs, home fries, sausage, avocado, and French toast. The French toast was good, and the eggs and avocado were fine. However, I didn't enjoy the home fries or sausage. The sausage was nearly burnt--they shouldn't have even served it at that point. The home fries had onions, but they were burnt, and there were quite a few overly crispy pieces. As expected, UberEats charges more than the restaurant, but in this area, nothing is reasonably priced anyway. Unfortunately, this breakfast just didn't hit the spot.

I feel like writing poems to celebrate how much the bacon slays here - crispy with enough chew and abundant. The green sauce moves me - I love it on everything. This place wins for breakfast and their empanadas are a great grab and go if you need a mid morning fill up or just an easy, inexpensive breakfast. Prices have gone up but still absolutely worth it anytime I'm nearby.

Had a craving for a breakfast burrit and this place was open early in the morning. Ordering was easy and they were able to accommodate me. I ordered a Mr.Burrito with no onions and they prepared just that. This was a steak egg and guac burrito with peppers. The steak was tasty and the egg was fluffy. I would have preferred if they make the eggs scrambled and mixed into the meat but the burrito feel like all the inside were separate. The mix of the i grill inside a burrit makes it taste better in me opinion. I will return to this location to try their other burrito that is more breakfast like. Overall the staff was nice and were able to get my order out quick. They even yave a lot of seating soace if you do not want to eat outside. The pastries also looked pretty decent.

Simple egg and cheese. Cheese wasn't melted. This is cheap American cheese, no one wants a mouthful of firm low grade American cheese on their breakfast sandwich. Unacceptable in nyc.

I love the roasted pork at tio pio , I take pounds back to conn each trip in. Staff is great. Packs it up well for me for the road. Rice beans plantains Love the drag drinks too. Keep coming back

While I'm NYC my son and I were in need of a quick breakfast. We stopped in for a steak and egg breakfast burrito. Everything was cooked to order in front of us. Instead of adding hash browns as a filler like most restaurants theses days they actually used lettuce, tomato and avocado, which was refreshing. I am so disappointed that I did not have enough time to return for their rotisserie chicken dinner with the Puerto Rican rice and beans!!!! Perhaps next time as I will return again when Out East.

Been here couple times. Food is good. So far, my favor is yellow rice with Pernil, either steam veggie or yuca. I always ask for a crispy skin with the pernil, the skin is so crispy. Love it

Cheap, fast and huge portions at Tio Pio. There is a salad line and a hot food line. I was served right away - in and out (take-out) in five minutes. Many different meat and fish options with typical Spanish sides (rices, plantains, beans etc). Lunch came to $9.25 with tax for 1/4 rotisserie chicken with 3 sides - I got spinach, yuca and Spanish rice. Food was fine - chicken had good flavor but was somewhat dry. Rice was great while yuca and spinach were just mediocre. I was certainly full after (couldn't even finish it all), so I would recommend for a quick, inexpensive lunch in Downtown Brooklyn.

I found this gem after a long morning of errands and am so happy I did. You can get custom salads, juice/smoothies or a platter of delicious Spanish food. If you're a picky eater like me than I highly recommend this place as you can pick and choose as much as you'd like :-) Being the only Spanish food place in the area other than Sophie's which is most definitely pricier, I can definitely foresee long lines at certain times of the day. But at 3 o'clock on this beautiful Saturday, the place isn't all that busy.

Everyone knows and expects inflated food prices due to corporate buildings in the surrounding area but this place is a great deal for the amount of food you get. The typical meal deal is your choice of protein ranging from rotisserie chicken to pernil to fried fish fillets and 2 sides ranging from rice to plantains to salad. If that's not what you want, they have a decent sized salad bar with all the fixings. The seating area is not built for comfort but speed. You get your food, you sit down, you eat, you get out. I walked up to the counter and was immediately served. I chose pernil aka slow roasted pork with plantains and Mac and cheese. The pernil was a nice mix of fatty and lean with crunchy skin seasoned well and not too salty. The Mac and cheese was aldente and not over cooked with enough cheese without it feeling too greasy. The plantains were a little under fried so it was a bit firmer than I prefer but wasn't too bad. I started getting full 3/4 way through but powered through and joined the clean plate club. If you're in the area and want a good portion of delicious food at a very good price, this is the place for you.

It's not just about the amazing food here. This quintessential definition of a "mom and pop" business is truly a wonderful long time staple of DoBro. Great spot.

Totally disgusted and disappointed. I spent over $70 expecting good tasting food and I received previously frozen thawed out empanadas. I was told to purchase food from this restaurant from a coworker however I would never buy from here again. The sad part is that the customer service was great. I guess that was their way to hide that they were serving me old food. I traveled from New Jersey to serve my family food that was obviously in the refrigerator too long. You could taste the freezer burn. To overcome this high disappointment I had to reorder locally and throw out the food bought from Tio Pio. Total rip off!!!

My g2 for a quick empanada (cheese is good). I've had their feta and spinach omelette platter and the french toast is made different than what I'm used to buuuut it's yummy. Also must try the burrito loco! It's way under rated. The workers are friendly and give great service.

I come here a few times a week for reasonably healthy lunch fare for a decent price. I usually order from the hot food area in the back. It's not always easy to get quality vegetables when eating out, but this place has tons of delicious cooked sides to choose from - brussel srpouts, broccoli rabe, yuca, green beans, spinach, roasted carrots, collard greens, etc. I occasionally also order the rotisserie chicken and that's also fantastic.

A co-worker introduced me to this place 2 weeks ago and I've been a regular ever since. I love it! The atmosphere in the restaurant is lively. But the selection of food takes the cake! Anything from an empenada (sp?), to a salad bar, to a sandwich, to your selection of a hot meal (variety of rices, vegetables and meats). For lunch you can get rice, 2 sides and one meat for $8.00. And the portions are huge. I never finish all in one sitting, so I save the remaining food for the next day. Which is $4 for lunch each day. Not bad. Overall Rating: B+

Just had there wrap special with steak.. Meat was uneatable .. Almost broke my tooth when biting into something hard in wrap .... stay away

My friend Ordered breakfast this morning and it was horrible. The pancakes tasted of old grilled food. The eggs were not cooked to compketion and the bacon reeked of grease. I myself ordered an empanada and wasn't pleased with the texture nor flavors. I recall going to tio pio during my collegiate days at Poly and also being a little dissapointed in the food. Get better!

Racist!!!!!! Towards other Spanish and black people. I spent money at this establishment and the employees from the food area refused to provide me with the code to use the bathroom because I could not find my receipt. Knowingly I had paid for my food there and a worker was trying to force a paying customer to walk to the register and get a receipt. I than personally refused to go back because they knew I am eating something from Tio Pio during lunch break downtown Brooklyn. I felt belittled as a paying customer I was embarrassed. I would never go back in this place and spend another dollar. To think I was treated like a second class citizen by second class citizens.

Ordered delivery from here . You get what you pay for in this place 8 dollars for pernil rice beans and sweet plantains . Good amount of food for 8 bucks but quality was not good . Okay at best . Rice was hard . Sweet plantains were not good quality got lots of fat with my pernil. Beans on the other hand were great with very good flavor . I would order again because of the price but next time I'm going with a the grilled chicken instead of the pernil

You come here because you want to splurge on calories. Do yourself a favor and skip that salad bar - their chicken is dry and the veggies are just sub-par. Get in the hot-meal line... I always go for the rice and beans, as well as mac and cheese... Actually, I think those are the only two sides Ive gotten there. Ive had the oxtail and the roast pork - both are greasy and salty, but oh, so delicioso.

My co-workers have been raving about the new opening of Tio Pio and how great their chicken is so I decided to try it out last week for lunch. The food here is moderate, definitely not inexpensive although I wish it was. I went to grab lunch at Tio Pio around 1pm and the line wasn't as long as I thought it 'd be. The decor is simple, nothing very fancy or extravagant and the staff here are friendly. Most of the food is pre-made, you just order what you want and it's ready to eat. I ordered the white rice with 1/4 chicken, plantains, and beans. I really enjoyed the plantains. I don't eat them a lot, but it sure is yummy. The beans were extremely tasty. The chicken was grilled just right. The rice had an aromatic taste to it. I think next time I will go for the yellow rice instead. If you want tasty Spanish/Latin American food, Tio Pio is the place to be. I think I will return to Tio Pio because I do have an interest in Spanish food and they've got empanadas, something I've been wanting to try for the longest time!

Lunch time today was my first time ordering food from here. My co-worker recommended this restaurant to me. I had a taste for soup and salad. I ordered at the salad bar. They do have a wide variety of different salad toppings and different types of greens. I ordered Romaine with onions, 1 egg, bacon bits, carrots with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The dressing tasted like nothing. It just made my salad moist / wet /taste like something was on there, but dressing had no flavor of any kind. Also ordered chicken noodle soup. It tastes like the same chicken noodle soup that the Chinese restaurants (take out) serve. Nothing special. Bland not much flavor. The good thing about the meal was that the portions were a nice size and I was full at work all day. Was not hungry at all. So that was good. The customer service was not friendly, but I suppose what can you expect with a take-out spot, right? Will I order take out from here again? No, there are plenty of options down town Brooklyn. But thanks. Oh, almost forgot to mention that my order was $10.89.

One of my fav spots in Brooklyn to grab a quick bite to eat..they have a huge selection of toppings for salads, fish, rice and beans, chicken, ox tails and vegetables.

Most of their food is fine but they put a lot of salt. That is very typical kind of outside food and want to make you don't want to eat out again. Not healthy. I ordered their cheese "empanada", it sucks. The cheese is terrible and it is no near to the good Spanish empanada. Never again.

I used to work over there and the lunch options in the Downtown Brooklyn/Fulton Street area are severely limited. This place is AMAZING! I could seriously live on a quarter chicken with rice, beans and plantains ($6.50). It is super delicious and the portions are huge! The rub/seasoning on the chicken is so tasty and the chicken is always moist and tender. The rice and beans would make my day. Do yourself a favor and ask for some "green sauce" on the side and pour it over everything, if you like a spicy kick. I also loved the Tio Pio wrap which is sauteed zucchini, avocado and the rotisserie chicken. I would say one of the worst things about leaving that job was having to leave Tio Pio. Also, please don't be intimidated when you walk in and see the long line wrapped around the place, they move things real quick.

Ordered over a dozen breakfasts to go for a work event occurring early in the AM. Their food was plentiful, delicious, well packed and service was so polite and positive.

Generous portions, great prices, make SURE you get the green sauce when you're paying for food.

What a sick joke! I've been waiting for this day to come. I was up till 1:00am debating if I should have the chicken or the pernil. I've been anxious for a week to come here and finally the day came... only to find out it is now closed due to a fire. LITERALLY, it has been one week since the last person to review this place. 12 reviews done before me.. I must be unlucky 13. I settled for Chinese take out. This makes me a sad panda. To Tio Pio: Come back with the same old food and same prices please! I will be waiting for the day you reopen! I hope everyone came out safe and in good health! Rumor has it Tio Pio is back in business at this location! Time to check it out!!!

A Very good latin restaurant; Quality with Quantity. Everyday you will be able to get your choice of meat with 2 sides in a very affordable range of 6-10 dollars. Depending on what day you go there will be different sides available such as Stewed Okra (which is delicious), Yucca, platanos, A variety of rices and pasta, beans dishes, salads, fresh fruits in conjunction with choice of protein. Fried Chicken, Grilled Chicken, Chicken Cutlet, Rotisserie run you 6 with 2 sides. All of them are quite delicious. I'd advise against the cutlet at it is the most average of all of the chicken dishes available. The rotisserie and grilled are succelent and full of flavor. ANd they give tremendous portions either 2 pieces fried, or about 1 1/2 chicken breasts otherwise. One of the most underrated dishes in food history Pernil (puerto rican pork shoulder) runs you at 7. The pernil is usually quite succelent but there are days where it is a little on the dry side. I would look at it first before you get it...but it doesn't dissappoint when it is moist as it has the "Falling off the bone" texture. It is Easily the most flavorful dish here to point where i must reiterate how criminally slept on this dish is The fishes/seafood are a little more expensive as i believe the salmon with 2 sides is 9. Grilled Shrimp or Fried Fish is the fare here, and it isn't bad at all. You should get your food with the green hot sauce...which is excellent, not too spicy and extremely flavorful. Pretty much this place is perfect. They took the opposite approach to food. Cheap and Delicious...(which is why there is always long lines at lunchtime).

The portions are indeed generous. If it's your first time, then stick with items that are next to impossible to screw up. During my first visit, I ordered lemon chicken, steamed mixed vegetables, and Spanish rice. The Spanish rice was a bland, but I wasn't expecting anything authentic when it's being served out of a warming tray. The steamed mixed vegetables weren't overcooked and unseasoned--just how I like it. The lemon chicken was exactly that--lemony. There were even a couple of capers in the mix. I've also had the beans and rice (also bland) and the pulled pork (needs hot sauce). Seating is cramped, but if you wait long enough a table will open up eventually. I'm not sure if this place is cash only, but I've only paid with cash here and I've only seen other customers pay with cash. The food is decent and pricing is fine. You should expect to pay $8-$10 for a hot combo meal. Save me a seat...

Love this place! I stay close by for work regularly and have made this place my go to breakfast spot! They have fresh made juice which is amazing and really cheap! As for breakfast I've gotten the oatmeal, made my own yogurt parfait, and latest obsession is the breakfast burrito which is eggs, roasted chicken, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese- it is out of this world! They also have a variety of omelets and other wraps and salads to choose from. Staff is super friendly and I love how affordable everything is! A must try local spot in Brooklyn!

Not a bad little Spanish style restaurant in downtown Brooklyn. A decent sized selection of hot foods and sides. I had a pork chop, yellow rice, corn and a bottle of water for $10. You can't beat that.

Not too bad, but definitely not the best ever. The Tio Pio spinach wrap came with grilled chicken, zucchini, carrots, avocados, and the avocado based Tio Pio hot sauce. I had a bone in my chicken that I had to remove, but otherwise the food was serviceable. A bit on the bland side for my taste, but the namesake sauce kicked things up a notch. All in all, this is a place to fill your belly with food to tide you over for a much more amazing meal ahead. I'll pass this by next time and just skip to the good stuff!

It's 6am and I decided to give this place a chance. I've seen it during normal hours and never gave it a shot. Walked in and it was busy with construction workers, which is understandable. The staff seemed friendly and I ordered an egg white with turkey and tomato on a TOASTED roll. Got the roll and it was tasty, as tasty as egg white and turkey can be I imagine. BUT THE ROLL WASN'T TOASTED. Something so simple and it was too early to start messing up orders. I'll give them another try at getting it right and a chance at some other things before getting another star but 3 is all I can do right now. Place is clean despite the B rating. But it was 6am also!!

Love this place. If you want some hearty Spanish food for relatively cheap price, then this is your joint. I always get the Cuban Delux for 9 bucks and the home made lemondae. Altogether 12 bucks and the Cuban Delux is large enough to be comfortably shared by 2 people. I couldn't eat it all on my own! Decor is so so but screw that; this place is meant to get your food, eat and scoot. Anyplace you sit, you get a great view of the outside world.

If youre downtown brooklyn then you need to try this spot at least once. This place has the best spanish food I've tasted in Brooklyn...this location at least. They pile on food into your container and they charge a reasonable rate for it. You can easily share one plate between two people. Place is always clean and staff are super quick (i think they can see the hunger in your eyes). With any meal you get I suggest you pay the extra buck and get the "green sauce", it adds something new to your already amazing meal. They accept cards (credit $10 min and debit $6 min) but of course they prefer cash.

Love it here! I have been waiting for them to reopen. The location looks fresh and I would be more likely to spend my lunch break there now then before. The food is great. The salmon is my go-to when counting calories, but everything I've sampled is good. The greens, choices of chicken and rice with beans are all good choices and the portions are big enough to eat in two days.

Received our order, but it was missing a few things!!! No ketchup, no mayo, no pickles and no salad dressing!! Sandwich was suppose to have fried onions but came with way too many raw onions and not enough lettuce and no tomatoes!!! Lettuce in salad looked wet and soggy!!! Obviously they don't care about their customers!! Won't be ordering from this place again!!

Service is less than stellar but tolerable. Just an 'ok' lunch place, nothing noteworthy or special. Prices are about the same for the area. I'm having a hard time writing anything good about the food.

Limited are those who work/go to school in the Metrotech area in regards to viable lunch options. Of course there is Luciano's, Metro Cafe, Au Bon Pain, Five Guys, and Wok 'N Roll (really bad) all within the Metrotech courtyard, but if one dares to venture beyond the confines of the courtyard they will find themselves in heaven... if heaven was a bounty of Spanish food served piping hot and spilling out the sides of styrofoam containers. Tio Pio doesn't skimp. In fact one of my biggest complaints is that they give way too much food. The roast chicken is always fresh and moist and the sides (so many to choose from!) are all pretty good themselves. Personally, I love their pico de gallo on top of grilled chicken on a bed of greens. Breakfast is cheap, fast, and delicious. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. Coming in before noon is your best bet as the food is freshest and the lines are nonexistent. Don't forget to save room for dessert... their pastries are great. *Accepts credit ($10 min) and debit ($6 min) cards.

So good. I recommend the chicken and amazing sides. Prices are reasonable but drinks are too expensive. The restaurant get super packed during lunch time and so I only ordered take outs so far.

My go-to for a fast and cheap lunch near my office. $5.75 for a decent half chicken is hard to beat.

This was the WORST place to go. Despite many co workers telling me that tio pio has previously made them sick before, I took the trip there to see what it was all about. I ordered a number 1 which was a half chicken with plantains and white rice with beans. As soon as I finished my food, I ran to the bathroom and puked twice. Please avoid this place at all costs!

I liked the food very much. The place is clean and organized. It's not very big but there is room to eat in. I had the oxtails,rice and beans with plantains. My co- worker had the grilled Shrimp with Alfredo pasta and steamed broccoli. We both cleaned our plates. The only thing missing was a slice of cheese cake, they didn't have any. The staff were friendly. I will definitely eat there again.

This review is only for the cakes.... I went there a few weeks ago for a snack, before going to the movies across the street. The staff was friendly considering they were closing and let me run in really quick for a bite. The strawberry shortcake is divine, as is the oreo cookie cake. I will be back again to sample the other food, because of their patience and courtesy.

NOTE: 3.5 Stars I would like to give this place another try. I came here during lunch and it was a madhouse. Took me a bit of time to order, get my food and leave. The food was pretty good once I finally got to eating it. I got the oxtails with rice and beans. All very tasty and I was promptly half asleep at my desk after eating it. A sign of a good meal is sleepiness and lack of focus on work for the rest of the afternoon. Will have to give this place another try for dinner. The lunch rush was chaotic. I didn't feel like I was getting much of a deal as my food ended up being almost $13 dollars. Everything around the Metrotech area is overpriced as hell for no reason but I guess with so many patrons they can charge a premium. Staff was very friendly and tried to get things moving as quickly as they could despite the long line. If you do not want hot food they had a salad bar available. Honestly there are better places to get a salad in the area especially right down the street. Overall I really enjoyed the food and the dream I had while napping afterwards was pretty hilarious.
