Tipico's - Review - Northwest Dallas - Dallas - The Infatuation

"There’s a sense of nostalgia at Tipico’s that you don’t get anywhere else in Dallas, and it's filled with generations of families laughing over tortilla chips and plastic ramekins full of warm salsa. They make homestyle Mexican dishes that taste like the kind of food you ate as a kid on weekend mornings—straightforward, but somehow impossible to replicate yourself. And it all tastes better in a laminate booth with Tejaño music blaring in the background. You’ll smell the huevos con chorizo before you see them: eggs folded with crumbly, bold sausage slick with cumin and paprika-laced fat. They come with smooth refried beans, crispy diced potatoes and buttery flour tortillas for scooping. And nothing beats the tacos al carbon at lunch, juicy and perfectly seasoned, no onions or even salsa required to enjoy." - Desiree Gutierrez

Great food, service, and parking! - Amazing salsa! - Pollo enchiladas (chicken with sour cream sauce) were fantastic and super cheesy. - Al Carbon tacos were the best I’ve had. - Great booth - Plenty of parking

Without a doubt, this restaurant offers exceptional authentic Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend visiting and trying the entire menu. Our waitress provided excellent service with prompt refills. The staff were courteous and welcoming. I plan to visit this restaurant on a weekly basis and will also bring family and friends who visit from out of town.

I was so happy when going to Tipico's for the 1st time and found my new SPOT. You know when you find your spot where you love everything about the place especially the food? Yes, Tipico's is my next new place and I'll tell you why.... 1. When I first walked in I didn't get a strong food smell like most places which tells me the ventilation system must be top notch, a definite bonus for me. 2. The restaurant is so clean! Even the smallest details like the window sills were spotless. Love that! 3. The AC was blasting. I always take a coat everywhere I go for comfort in cold places. I prefer a cool place than a hot uncomfortable one where food is served. Another bonus. 4. The service was excellent. Friendly staff all the way. 5. THE FOOD! My hub and I both had breakfast for lunch and it was all fresh, tasted great and super homemade. Best lemonade since my Tia Martha used to make when I was a little kid visiting in Mexico! We've been twice in 2 weeks and the same great experience. Can't wait to go back!

Google
First time here and hands down the best beef soup ever! We also tried the tripas plate, very good! And the mole was ok…wasn’t spicy and a bit on the sweet side for my liking but was made very well!!!! Will be back and definitely be a place I’ll recommend.

Yelp
Great service along with the best mexican food in Dallas. I have enjoyed Tipico's for the last decade and many more to come. Thank you very much!

Yelp
Every person in Dallas says this place is bomb- so this was a place that I've been wanting to try. So I'm finally here. Parking spot is small but there is parking- this place is packed but there was tables available- the whole time I was there people kept on coming but people were leaving also. - sit where you want- the waitress was good. Friendly- The Menudo- was missing some flavor I did like the meat it was chucky Nopalitos con Guisado de Puerco en Salsa Verde - and it comes with fresh homemade tortillas corn & flour- - the food was good. The rice was ok- the beans were actually pretty good. The guisado was good- One thing i was disappointed was that the salsa verde wasn't spicy- the salsas we got with the chips were not spicy either- for a Mexican joint , food needs a kick- not to burn off your tongue but a nice kick - that's why I was disappointed - maybe the jalapeños were being friendly that day- I will go back to try again

Yelp
I had Chicken Enchiladas and sour cream. Be very careful when you eat this because sometimes you'll find pieces of paper with plastic in it. First time I came here 15 years ago I found a piece of bone in my chicken enchiladas be aware of what you eat.

Yelp
I've been here many times before and it's safe to say this place never disappoints. This is a traditional Mexican food spot that's family owned over by Love Field Airport. It's been around for decades and is one of two locations in DFW! We ordered the eggs with chorizo plate that comes with potatoes and beans & the tacos al carbon which comes with rice and beans. Your choice of tortilla as well (flour or corn)! The food is very tasty. Good service. I also had the horchata to drink (which is basically a sweet drink made with rice & cinnamon) & it was very yummy. Once you're done ordering you pay at the front! The ambiance is lively & it is usually very busy-- but I am not surprised. The food is extremely delicious and traditional. Please go dine here if you haven't already. They take to-go orders as well!

Yelp
We found this place based on yelp reviews. It was very busy at 3pm so we thought we made a good choice. We got seated pretty quickly, but were not acknowledged by servers for a while. The person seating us finally came over to take our order. He then handed us over to a waitress. Our drinks and chips came out fairly quickly, but it took a while for our food. Other tables around us got their food first. The food was good but not outstanding. Seems like they have quite a following, but not worthy of the crowd.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. If you want to eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant this is the place. Not fancy, but great. Wait staff was friendly.

Yelp
Came in after a flight. Cute little place! The food came out fast and so delicious! I highly recommend going. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Food is tasty and service is good. A good place to eat but can be crowded at peak hours and parking can also be scarce when busy. But how many places would you say are worth the wait. If you grew up on mexican food you will enjoy...

Yelp
Mom used to make an Italian version of "menudo" (tripe) with a spicy tomato-based sauce and potatoes. Grew up loving that! When I first moved to Texas from the Midwest I was excited to see "menudo" on the menu at an (unnamed!) Mexican restaurant and ordered it without having done my research. It was HORRIBLE!!! Really greasy and obvious the tripe was not cleaned very well; it was years before I would ever try again. My second try was at Casa Navarro and, while theirs was MUCH better, the fact they serve it only Saturday and Sunday as well as it being "just okay" (still a bit too greasy for me) prevented me from going back. Today after doing a lot more research, I ended up at Tipico's at 10:45am on a Thursday--they serve menudo every day! I was surprised to see how crowded it was, getting one of the final few parking spots in the main lot. After sitting down at one of the last available tables I placed my order... a LARGE bowl of menudo--being only 50 cents more than the small bowl it seemed like a no-brainer. I (gringo) also appreciated that the waitress didn't ask me "if I was SURE I wanted to order it" like had happened both times before; it made me feel like less of an outsider and more welcome to be there! ;) What I was served along with the chips, salsa, and corn tortillas was AMAZING! The broth was so flavorful and the tripe was mild tasting and delicious. I could have eaten two large bowls! I do agree with some that a bit more hominy would have been nice but did not experience the saltiness described by some. If you ever feel adventurous and want to try menudo, I'd say this is the place to go. It was by far the best soup made with tripe I've ever eaten (sorry mom)! As long as you're able to mentally deal with what it is, the appearance, and texture I am confident you'll have a positive experience. Don't feel you need to have a hangover to enjoy it! I will DEFINITELY return... soon!

Yelp
I was craving an old school Mexican breakfast and stopped here. They do not have a long menu, but have an array of items from tacos, flautas, enchiladas, and more. It was very busy, but the waitress was quick to get everyone in and seated. The restaurant had some great music playing and TVs, but not too loud so you could converse with family and friends. They have the typical drinks you can think of and alcohol, but what stood out is that they actual Aguas Naturales and not from the machine. This something very rare in the Tex mex restaurants nowadays! I had the Lemonada and it was so refreshing. They gave chips and salsa, but with a hint of Tipico's way of doing things! A fresh red salsa that is the right amount of spice and flavor AND a cold salsa that is mild for my friends that just want to have a "chips and salsa" type of day meal. They are both appetizing and a perfect table starter before you get your meal. I ordered the chilaquiles and it was delish! Please keep in mind it is not the typical spicy version you might be use to it is Egg with tortillas and chorizo, beans, and potatoes. It also comes with either flour tortillas or corn. What I liked it was not too spicy and I could enjoy! I also tried the Menudo and was just like "how grandma use to make it at home" with a punch of flavor. If I could I would of drank the broth lol. Seriously, try the Menudo it is what they are known for. The staff is quick on their feet and constantly getting their customers in and out of the door. That is what I call GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will be back to try the rest of menu items! Thanks Tipicos for being one of a kind!

Yelp
The salsa they bring to the table is warm and spicy as it should be iykyk so it was a good start. I was iffy about trying this place because the enchiladas looked tex Mex and I hate tex Mex food. To my surprise the tacos were amazing and authentic Mexican tacos I got a fajita Al carbon taco and a guisado de res taco they were delicious!! Best I've had in DFW for sure and I've tried a bunch. The service is also super fast and they're very nice I will be coming back!

Yelp
Right by Bachman Lake and the highest rated tacos in the area on Yelp. You'll find ample parking and plenty of seat, yourself booths, and tables. Tables are numbered and you pay at the front. Be sure and get there early as it gets very crowded. The server was very friendly and efficient. Chips, salsa, and my huevos rancheros were delicious. My son and grandson enjoyed the tacos. The homemade flour tortillas were a hit with all of us!

Kina A.

Yelp
Love this place! I had the chicken enchiladas with sour cream. So flavorful and they don't skimp. I think I could live on their rice and beans.

Yelp
Tipico's is one of the few Mexican restaurants in Dallas I can confidently say serves a TRUE, AUTHENTIC Mexican food experience. My family and I have been coming here for YEARS. This ain't no fancy "gourmet" Mexican food or chimichanga/queso type Tex-Mex. It's, for lack of better terms, a hole-in-the-wall that serves BOMBBBB Mexican food. My mom is from South TX and she says the food tastes like authentic Texas Mexican food and is the closest to the food she gets back home. The quality is consistently great and they serve chips and salsa. The salsa is spicy af and not watered down at all. I love the red salsa. The chips always taste fresh. The service is always fast and the employees here work hard. We've never received poor service here. The dishes are amazing-I highly recommend their breakfast tacos (bacon & egg, nopales), their beef soup (sopa de res), and their res guisado taco plate. You won't be disappointed here.

Yelp
The food here is out of this world! We enjoy coming here for breakfast on Sundays and the whole family loves it, wish we had one closer to home but it is definitely worth the drive. 10/10!!!

Yelp
Had some amazing cheese enchiladas! Just the right portion for me. Very busy restaurant and parking can be difficult at times.

Marie S.

Yelp
Only cause I had to give it 1 star otherwise, I would not have given it anything. This is the second time I go in order a caldo de res that has been spoiled. I called today and spoke with Gerardo that stated he was the owner that had a HORRRIBLE attitude. He was very agitated, very short with me, and just overall ugly demeanor. Now, this is the 2nd time this has happened to us. The 1st time I did nothing, but this is twice. I will NEVER go back to eat at this place, ESPECIALLY if he's the owner and has a HORRIBLE ATTITUDE with a PAYING CUSTOMER. He doesn't deserve the business. This is not the only thing that we have experienced at this location on NW Hwy. I only continued coming because we started coming here since they opened and because of the lady that I thought was the owner was very nice and a great cook. I will let my family and friends know of what bad experience we have had here, especially by the owner, Gerardo.

Yelp
I tried Tipico's for the first time with my family yesterday and already want to go back! The food is delicious and served hot and fresh. Everyone was happy with what they had ordered and the service was quick. The restaurant was very busy, however the servers were still very attentive and the service was great the entire time. Overall a great place for a casual meal with amazing food!

Yelp
By far this is our favorite # 1 Mexican Restaraunt. We love the authentic Mexican dishes such as Napalitos (cactus), Caldos, Polo a la Mexicana , Bistec Ranchero and Camaron Mexicana. For those who prefer Tex Mex the Beef Enchiladas and Spinach Enchiladas are really good. The chips comes with two types of sauce one is served cold and the other one is warm and spicy! You get the best of both worlds. You can't go wrong here. We love this place.

Yelp
"Tipico" means "typical" in English - this place does live up to that in the sense that they serve most of your standard Mexican fare. The restaurant serves breakfast items such as chilaquiles and huevos con chorizo, while also serving burritos, tacos, enchiladas, nachos, etc. They also serve other traditional Mexican dishes such as guisado, menudo, and soups. What isn't "typical" about this place, though, are the level of flavor and quality of the service found here. The food is simply the best Mexican food you can find in the DFW metroplex - simple dishes made to perfection at a great price. Take a look around at the clientele and figure it out. Look at the lines to get in, also. The service here is excellent, as well. The ladies hustle non-stop while still showing friendliness and professionalism. Tipico's offers typical dishes at a level that is anything but that. If you are in the area and are super hungry, they have you covered.

Yelp
We were told this place was legit by several Southwest Airline employees who work in the HQ building down the way - it did not disappoint. I could not believe how soft and fresh the tortillas for the tacos were. The rice and beans on the side were perfect. Reasonable prices for reasonable portions, quick service even at the tail end of the lunch rush.
google avatar

Quantasia D.

Yelp
Very racist. Nobody came to my table for anything. All the Mexicans got served but not me. Wouldn't recommend ‍
google avatar

Neelina C.

Yelp
Taquitos advertised as tacos on the menu. Staff was really helpful in explaining the issue and re-making my order to what I wanted but in the end, taquitos were served (not tacos).
google avatar

Franki H.

Yelp
I was passing this place and decided to stop because it was very busy for 11am on a weekday which always seems like a good sign. I am so glad I did. I ordered the enchilada lunch special to go. It was under $10 and ready in 10 minutes. It was flavorful and a lot of food. The hostess was so nice and made sure I was taken care of. I see why this is a popular lunch spot for so many.
google avatar

Melody D.

Yelp
This is the place where you walk in and you just know you're in for a good meal. Lunch time is always packed but definitely worth the wait. Their servers are always attentive with the chips and salsa. Their Enchiladas are a must try and for the price of everything on their menu, it's definitely worth coming back to order more!
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
FOOD IS 10/10 Food is authentic, delicious, mexican cuisine. I ordered Menudo, tripas, and corn/flour tortillas. THE TORTILLAS ARE HOMEMADE!!! THEY TASTE AMAZING AND EVERYTHING ELSE WAS AMAZING. Service is great, you walk in and seat yourself, then a waiter will come to your table shortly to take your order. The ambiance is very family friendly, it feels as if you're going over your tia/tio's house for a meal. I will definitely be back again.

Samuel D.

Yelp
$10 for a combo plate which was good and a good amount of food, was disappointed when I orders a very small soup. $12 and a ice tea $6. What a rip off . I guess there is where they make their money. Probably will not come back
google avatar

Les S.

Yelp
It is great food. If you like Huevos Rancheros, theirs is some of the best. Refried beans, home fries. great. Great people there too.
google avatar

Yelp
Local Mexican food doesn't get better that Tipico's. This is what my abuelita made. This is what my house smelled like Sunday evening for family dinners. Zero flash. Great flavor. Protect this place at all costs, Dallas. Make it a tradition.

Marvin T.

Yelp
Food very good I went on Friday and got the daily special (crispy tacos) and the menudo I like that this spot has menudo every day instead of just on the weekends. Fast service, was in and out within 30 minutes

Lesa R.

Yelp
The food and service never fails. We've had enchiladas, carne asada and tacos. All tasty and fresh.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Wow. That's all I really need to say. As a recommendation from a friend, I checked out Tipicos, and it is so far, the most authentic and amazing Mexican restaurant I've been to in Dallas. From the homemade tortillas to the res (beef) and service, there's nothing else I want them to do to make my experience better. Lots of delicious warm chips and tasty salsa. And If you order a water, its a HUGE cup. Food: Our friend recommended we get the Burritos de Res (beef), and it did not disappoint. Must try!!! They have other additions that go with it, such as guacamole or beans, but as long as it's the beef burritos, they are so mouthwatering, you won't be upset. They come as three small burritos/big tacos with rice and beans. We didn't love the fajitas as the both the chicken and steak ones were pretty dry, but if it floats your boat, go for it. On cerrtain days, they have great deals like cheaper fajitas so it's worth it! Lastly, totally recommend the Horchata. It's a HUGE cup that honestly you could split with someone, but they do a great one. I get it everytime I go. Also the service is incredible. The waitress that we had, although didn't speak much english, was patient with our Spanglish and got our order down perfectly! When we paid at the window near the front door, who I assume is the owner or manager was super nice and I can tell he has a passion for this restaurant. Overall, you won't be disappointed if you come to Tipicos and order the burritos de res. Just know that during LUNCH hours, they are going to be PACKED (good sign) so avoid the busy hours. But oh man, we go here every other week for dinner it's so good.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Never misses food always delish. Lunch hour is packed well worth the wait. I make a weekly visit

Yelp
Came here for lunch, Amazing food, service was great and food arrived in great time! Defiantly be back

Yelp
Beer cap in hot sauce! I am disgusted by this and can imagine how it happened. I was well down into dipping in the hot sauce and found a beer cap! My only theory is that they are taking hot sauce off the table and recycling that. That is not only awful for following who knows how many double dippers but also food safety and temperature issues. Who knows how long this had been going on that day with this same salsa! Digusting! Their only "fix" for this was to get me a fresh salsa. I was not drinking, had no beer caps, so there is no way I could have done it. I should not have had to pay for my meal or something besides a "fresh salsa!" What I do know is that they will not ever, ever get any of my money in the future. I'll agree with all the positive reviews, the food I got was good, but NO! NO! NO! STAY AWAY!!! At least this one day they were recycling salsa off the table, and who knows if your next visit is one of those days!
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
This was a nice little cantina with some awesome flavored Mexican food. I was really impressed by the quality of the food at such an affordable price. We took our three kids, who are generally pretty picky eaters and all three enjoyed their meal as well. If we weren't just passing through, we would make this place a regular stop!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
I've had this on the list to check out for sometime. The chips had no salt but were good. The chips were average not thin. Two different salsas were provided. One was cold and the other was warm. The cold one had white onion and cilantro small bits of it with a lite kick. The warm one had bigger chucks of tomato and had a little bigger kick. I got the Huevos a la Mexicana with flour tortillas. My fiancé had chilaquiles. Both were very grease and why I gave a 3 star. The chilaquiles were different then other places. Normal chilaquiles is with red or green salsa and tortilla chips sometimes with chicken and egg. The chips on this dish looked like Fritos and it came with chorizo, bacon and eggs with no sauce.
google avatar

CAKE E.

Yelp
A very unassuming place to get a home cooked meal by your granny who consistently over salts everything but the chips. Reliable taste with friendly service. I'm kinda grossed out by the health scores. Like why would your utensils be so close to the ground? You don't keep track of when food goes bad? Why aren't you keeping food hot enough to prevent bacterial growth? Since the scores have been so low year after year, I assume they don't care to even try to improve. Kinda like how their women's restroom is a mess. The miniature stall barely fits one person, doesn't even close, and the huge tissue dispenser is lopsided because it's hanging off one bolt and swinging. This place has a loyal following but I'm not seeing that loyalty returned. How about improving food safety and the comfort of your guests? The menus are greasy and disgusting. How much does it really cost to print new ones out and wipe the covers?
google avatar

Juan C.

Yelp
Awesome service and friendly staff, stoped here for lunch and was not disappointed. I had Beef Enchiladas and my wife had Carne guisadas. The Carne was better very tender and full of flavor. The Beef Enchiladas were ok not bad but I've eaten better. Their salsa's were good especially the orange one more kick and taste. The nachos weren't all that.
google avatar

Heathe F.

Yelp
This place is great! The atmosphere is laid back and not hectic. They welcome you in with open arms. Definitely worth a try if you are over by Bachman Lake.

Sheri C.

Yelp
The food was excellent! BIG portions! I really liked the chips and salsa. The service was great! The atmosphere was pretty standard for Tex-Mex (bright bold colors, very festive). I enjoyed my visit very much!
google avatar

Cheks J.

Yelp
Great spot of Tex Mex. Would recommend. Service is fast. Food is excellent. And you get that Mexican touch in the ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
I've only been here one time so far but it was so good! Nachos with steak fajita and beans and cheese were awesome and their hot home made tortillas are awesome!
google avatar

Havah S.

Yelp
This place is seriously the best Mexican in town. We have gone so many times and not once has the food been anything less than delicious. I can't tell you how much we love coming here. It's seriously worth the visit.

Naylah W.

Yelp
Food amazing, every time I come to Texas it's my first stop and every time I leave it's my last stop

Kip G.

Yelp
Really good food! If you like a simple hot Mexican dish this is the place! Not a huge menu but simple and delicious. Large servings and fast service, some servers don't speak much English but the manager can always help out if needed. Highly recommended

Yelp
Title: Unfortunate Experience with Service Dog Denial I recently visited and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Despite having a legitimate service dog with me, the Manager/Owner at the restaurant denied us service. This action not only goes against common decency but is also against the law. It is disheartening to encounter this establishment that didn't adhere to the legal rights of service dog handlers. The lack of awareness and refusal to accommodate our needs left a lasting negative impression. It is essential for businesses to foster inclusivity and create an environment where everyone feels welcome. I encourage the management of to review and update their policies regarding service animals to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. Previously, Brenda the hostess, previous servers and food was amazing.

Yelp
Love this place. They have some really great Mexican food. I mean really great!!!!!!! I've been loving these for years
