Let me first say that I'm a fan of Hotel Zaza, because it always seems to be the hot spot - the place to people watch and be seen! I was really excited to check out the new location, mainly the bar, but I was deeply disappointed. The valet and host were great, but that was about it. The hotel lobby didn't look inviting or lush, and the bar definitely wasn't poppin.
It was hubby and I on a double date, so we tried to make the best of it, but the drinks were expensive and SUPER sweet! Keep in mind that we all ordered something different, too! Anyway, I told the bartender, and he asked me what else he could make me. I decided to stick to a traditional drink and not go with one of the house specials - a Moscow mule, and it was okay.
Anyway, the reason for the 1 star rating is because the bartenders were rude. After the guy offered to make me something else, he and the other bartender started speaking in Spanish (I'm nowhere fluent, but I know they were complaining about me). In an establishment like that, I would expect they would have better manners than that.
After my last review, I had the pleasure of returning to Tipping Point as a guest of Victor's, the Director of Food & Beverage. I have to say that he and his team were more than accommodating, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was fun and inviting - the live band definitely livened things up (pun intended)!
I had the campachena, which was refreshing, but (I can't believe I'm saying this) the shrimp was a bit too big/chunky for this dish. It's like a ceviche, so I think it would be better with smaller chunks of shrimp, crab, etc... The filet was good, but I'd rather go to a steakhouse if I'm craving a steak, and the red snapper was a bit fishy and dry. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, which looked like leftovers (sorry, but the presentation was lacking, for me), and it wasn't my favorite. Overall, the food was okay, but I can't say that there was any particular dish that left me looking forward to return. I wish I had a better review, because I really appreciated the chef for coming out and checking in with his customers.
