A Taste of Authentic Mexico in San Antonio This restaurant is a true gem for anyone seeking an authentic Mexican culinary experience in San Antonio. From the moment I saw the dishes, I felt transported to my grandma's house in Mexico – a truly nostalgic and comforting feeling. If you're expecting Tex-Mex, you'll be pleasantly surprised, as this establishment offers genuine Mexican cuisine. Every dish was absolutely delicious, showcasing the rich and vibrant flavors of Mexico.

The food here was delicious. The service was good. If you're juice person I definitely recommend giving one their fresh juices a try. The green juice was a delight. We cleared out plates. That's how good the food was.

Google
Cute little place. Food was closer to authentic Mexican food per se. Clean and friendly atmosphere. Cafe de olla was delicious. I had the enchiladas mexicanas but in my mexican opinion it lacked a bit of flavor but I was glad they weren’t tex Mex.

It’s going to be hard to eat at other Mexican restaurants now that I have eaten here. Food is incredible, place is busy. Love the presentation and the old stoneware.

Google
Food is amazing! There isn’t a place like this in San Antonio. I love that there is a variety of authentic food. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

Google
I ate my food too fast, this is the best Mexican food I’ve had in all of San Antonio. 10/10 recommend, changed my mind about molé, I thought it wasn’t for me until I tasted some of my husbands, and now I understand why people like it. Very classic recipes

Google
The chilaquiles here were delicious. My hubby had the same but with a piece of steak. You can’t leave this restaurant without trying the conchas (sweet bread) with cafe de olla (black coffee with brown sugar).

Google
The kind of truly mix-tec Mexican cuisine to enjoy for many meals. Tlahco takes taste even higher with the chicharrón in the salsa and bean sides, to the hot and mild salsas clearly made with love and provided freely. Try the corn dish - esquites or elote or Mexican street corn - whatever you call it, it is very good!!

Yelp
Well worth the stop. Best Mexican food yet in town. Taste buds will not be disappointed

Yelp
No frills restaurant serving up seriously good food. They have hard, booth-style seating lining the walls. It was decently packed. There seem to be two entrances--a front and a back. Parking might be tight, depending on when you arrive--at least the lot in front is a little cramped, jammed between the main road and the building. With thirst getting the better of us, we opted for Lime Agua Fresca and a Horchata. After rehydrating, we decided to nab Parrillada al Carbon--a platter of mixed grilled meats--accompanied by rice, borracho beans, guacamole, and tortillas. We also enjoyed the chips with bean dip and salsa. It was quite a bit of food, and we took home a doggie bag. The meats were well seasoned and succulent. The shrimp was crisp and not mushy. The quesadilla was hot and cheesy. The jalapeños were juicy and slightly spicy. The grilled onions went with everything. We went through the tortillas pretty quickly, so we asked for more. Friendly service, and fast. I need to remind myself to try out their other offerings when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went here for a late lunch at 4pm after seeing some reviews and had a wonderful experience. Phenomenal customer service since we were only one of two tables. They had great music playing, and got to choose our own table. We ordered the flautas de pollo, the Al pastor torta, and a cafe de olla. All items were 10/10 for us! A must visit when we are in town again!

Yelp
The overall experience was pretty average. It's a self-seating setup with simple, yet colorful decor that gives the place a casual vibe. Starting with the food--you're greeted with chips and a bean-based dip, along with red and green sauces for extra flavor. Just a heads up, if you ask for more chips, there's a $2.50 charge. I tried the mini tacos, which were just okay. For $14, I expected a bit more, especially since each taco is made with a single corn tortilla. You get five tacos and a side of beans. I also ordered the Parrillada al Carbon and added an extra meat, but it was a bit disappointing. It felt like I barely got any of the additional meat I paid for--maybe a quarter of an ounce--while the dish was mostly peppers and onions. Overall, not terrible, but nothing that really stood out either.

Yelp
I love when I finally find an authentic Mexican restaurant. I'm not talking about Tex-Mex. I'm talking about the real deal Mexican food and I'm so happy that I stopped by San Antonio and tried this place. The dining room is your standard environment, small dining room but everyone's there to eat so it's an algia type of experience. What I love about the guacamole and the chips is it's just an incredible dish. The chips are extra crispy fresh snap of the tortilla chips love the flavor, and you're talking about the freshest guacamole. I mean they had to have had made it prior because when I had the guacamole, you could taste how fresh it is and it's incredible From the pico de gallo on top of the guacamole to the zip and Zhang of the lime juice when you have the fresh creamy guacamole on top of the chip it's a money bite. The chicken flautas dish, I've had plenty in Austin Houston and in San Antonio, but this is that one restaurant where it's fresh flautas. Pretty sure they wrapped it with fresh chicken and deep fried to order. Love the crispiness and what I like about the dish is the creamy beans and the authentic rice I never finish my beans and rice because frankly most places I go to it tastes like it either from a jar or a can but those beings has a different type of creaminess and being taste that I actually finished my entire dish. I even scooped up all the rice, which I never do the rice had to be one of the best Mexican rice I've ever had very strong chicken, bouillon, and tomato taste when you add the creamy sour cream on top with the pickled red onions. It really breaks up the flavors and each time you go for a biteit freshens your pallet. The breakfast eggs, potato and meat platters great. I personally would prefer my potatoes to be crispy, but those potatoes are seasoned beautifully and amazing textures and flavors from the eggs with the cheese on top and a sliced ham overall great experience authentic restaurant.

Yelp
Holy moly !! This is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch I have ever had in America. Maybe its because of my long run the day before and I was ravenous but I love this place!! Not a long wait on a Sunday at all, their menu is huge with eggs options, enchiladas, rice, and a bunch of side options, desserts and drinks. Mexican food galore. The servers are swift and professional, I love that, no excessive chit chat but attentive. There are lots of Hispanic patrons so ... I think they should be good even for Hispanics cause I am no expert in Mexican food. I got the enchimoles, and devoured it. The chips they served out at the beginning is amazing, comes with two salsas and a meaty bean dip. The guava pie was yummy too, lovely crust and good guava flavor. Bookmark this place for your SA visit.

Yelp
Wanted to try an authentic Mexican restaurant while in San Antonio. This place had mostly great reviews. It didn't look like much on the outside, but inside was a traditional smaller sized Mexican restaurant, but plenty of seating for several families throughout. The food was excellent and authentic. I had the 5 Bisteak street tacos, which were awesome and filled with large portions of meat (well worth $14). But, not realizing how much food I was ordering, I also ordered the cheese chile relleno, which was perfectly cooked. It was too much to eat with the Mexican rice and refried beans, so I ended up taking most of it home. My wife's Parrillada was super tender and came with a large grilled, cream cheese filled and bacon wrapped jalapeño that was very tasty. The steak was so big, she couldn't finish it and it joined the take home container. Our waitress was very good. She kept our drinks full and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was delivered quickly and hot, with the restaurant about half full while we were there. Our Margaritas were very tasty served over the rocks, as God intended, and in a nice presentation for a decent price of $12. Overall, a great value for the entire dinner. Came out to $103, before tip for drinks and dinner for 3 people, to include the 5 street tacos I ordered that I had to have and bumped the price up an extra $14, but worth it.

Yelp
Place was friendly and service was fast. I took off one star because the sopes I ordered were tiny. They were tasty but for the price they should've been bigger. They give out free chips and salsa which also come with a side of their beans and chorizo. The beans were so delicious, I wanted more. The salsas were tasty especially the red sauce which had lots of spice and a nice roasted flavor. I got the carne asada and chicharrones sope. The taste was phenomenal. Tasted homemade but again the size was tiny. My partner ordered a cheese enchilada which came with rice and beans. If you order a meal it's worth the price since they give you a lot of food.

Yelp
Food was very good. True authentic Mexican cuisine. Not cheap, but very good. Coffee was as much as a Starbucks coffee and everything was extra, but again, taste was spot on.

Yelp
OMG this place is a 10/10!! Everything was delicious!! I had the Huevos Benitos!! We had Cafe de Olla absolutely amazing!! We just had to try the dessert, Crepe con fruta
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I flew in town to visit my son who is in school at Ft Sam Houston. We are so happy we found this restaurant! Absolutely everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. I had the Huarache and the chicken was outstanding! My son had ordered mole at another San Antonio restaurant not long ago and said Tlahco's was superior. We adored our server, too. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Donta W.

Yelp
Food was so delicious and fresh, I needed to write this review while still at the restaurant. I ordered the Enmoladas and it was the best mole dish I have ever had in Texas and it's not close! The mole is sweet with a hint of a kick but super flavorful and moist so it is well prepared. The chicken inside was juicy and not dry so it accentuated the mole flavor. The rice on the side was fresh and didn't taste like they made it bulk and just slopped it on the plate from a warmer. The borracho beans are unique with red pepper and sausage in them. Definitely we will be back here again!
google avatar

Hector F.

Yelp
The best cafe de olla I have tasted! Great service! Price is really good for how good the food is!!! Everything we had was amazing!! I will definitely come back to this place 100% the stu d jalapeño- tacos, sopes and huevos rancheros were !! Love this place! No wonder people kept coming in! This place is 5/5

Yelp
Restaurant is very clean and the food is great! The service, on the other hand, is horrible. There were several times I went to eat at Tlahco and the waitresses were very rude. They were in a rush, upset when I was not ready to order at their convenience, and made faces when I finally made the decision that I was ready to order. It was a hostile and uncomfortable situation. When I finally decided to order, the waitresses, on two occasions, rolled eyes, and had no proper customer service skills. Overall, the food is great and the menu is pretty lengthy so you do want enough time to look it over especially if you are new to the place. I'm not sure I feel comfortable going back unless the waitresses are taught proper etiquette or replaced. Next time, I will make a formal complaint, but figured a review might assist in making some well needed adjustments. I gave the restaurant two stars because customer service is very important and people should feel welcomed when they go into a restaurant in which they are shining in all other areas!

Yelp
Great Mexican (not Tex-Mex) food. Great homemade tortilla chips with that hot sauce like salsa and maybe a puréed bean and chorizo dip? Don't expect a lot of chips though and expect to pay for extra chips. But they're homemade, so we'll give them a pass on that. We had the Enmoladas (excellent) and street tacos (I think my companion said we're good, maybe just a little fatty but he's very picky). The conchas with crema and hot chocolate were pretty amazing. The hot chocolate though was "room temperature" chocolate and not super flavorful but the conchas were VERY good! The best I've ever had. Taste homemade and not massed produced like all other panderias. Would come back for conchas and enmoladas alone!! Yum!! The place is very casual which I love, tastefully decorated, very minimalistic, and modern day Mexican music. A little loud if you sit under the speaker.

Yelp
I came and ordered a Huarache de Arrachera for dinner. Place was not too busy and it was sit yourself. The waitress was very friendly and the food was delicious. Overall, the place is great place to grab a bite. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Harper M.

Yelp
The service wait was an hour +. Mind you though it is a holiday! Further we were not the only people waiting in line for an hour. If the hostess/system could be different such as advising customers the wait time would be far more than "30 minutes". Honestly the food wasn't astounding however it was very quick after ordering. We did order suggested meals from our waitress who was very kind the best thing I enjoyed was the juice. The ambiance was very buzzing which is good for business. Overall I probably wouldn't come back but it was worth a try.

Julieta M.

Yelp
Waitress are rude. Waitress also took forever to get us refills and the food isn't that great either. Totally not worth the price either

Yelp
AUTHENTIC Mexican food! This place deserves more than five stars! The cafe de olla is heavenly! I had to take one to go for the following day. Chilaquiles divorciadas is perfect if you are between red or green sauce. They're both savory, but my taste buds prefer green sauce. Ordered 5 mini tacos de al pastor, birria, & bisteck. It's hard to select the best meat since they were all tender & seasoned well. Our server was courteous even while staying busy. Restaurant was very aesthetic from their Mexican traditional clay plates to their interior design. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Aces high this place was fantastic. From the kind and attentive staff to the great vibe from the locals eating during our visit. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend.
google avatar

Chandani D.

Yelp
This place deserves all the hype surrounding it! We opted to try the enchiladas verdes and chilaquiles diablo with margaritas. The margaritas weren't our favorite of all time, but decent enough and appropriately priced. We both absolutely loved our dishes though - everything was served piping hot and full of flavor. Definitely would revisit this amazing place and try more dishes!

Andres C.

Yelp
Service was pretty bad this morning. Our waitress was not attentive at all, spent $35 on breakfast for 4 simple tacos and some bean dip, dinner is ok here but breakfast is a huge ripoff...
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
WOW! This food is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! The service was extremely friendly and the price was (chef's kiss!)! This is my new favorite place to go. The drinks were delicious, too! I like the simple interior because it shows that they value the quality of the food over frivolous decor. 10/10 recommend. I got the quesabirria and.... Omg. Definitely coming back. They also offer a military discount.

Yelp
Another trip to San Antonio and another stop at Tlahco! Seriously, if you are in town and not stopping here you are doing yourself a disservice. The food is amazing and so fresh. The Pibil taco in particular is a superstar and the Sope is just as good as it looks. Be sure to grab a Cafe Olla too!
google avatar

Jorge G.

Yelp
Food and service were top notch. Our waitress was amazingly kind and courteous. Delicious food. Individual tacos or plates, you can't go wrong. There are even delicious pancakes for the children, and grown ups alike. Huevos Benito were a huge hit. Great drink choices as well from lemonades, fresh fruit juices, coffee and lattes. The cafe de holla was delicious. oh and did I mention the conchas!?!
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
The short story: Food = tasty , Service = good, and Ambiance = fast, casual Mexican The long story: Traveling across Texas and stopped in San Antonio for lunch. The menu is quite eclectic. Not your standard Mexican fare. Chips and bean dip for a starter are so good. It also comes with a couple of small tins of salsa. The red salsa is a bit spicier than the green. Both are good. For an entree, I selected the Alambre de Arrachera. Steak with peppers and onions covered with cheese. Comes with rice and tortillas. it is quite good - the steak is tender and the disk as a whole is well seasoned. Tortillas as a bit different than the ordinary, but very good. Loved it - you should check it out. N*joy!

Yelp
We are on spring break, and on the hunt for the best hidden gem. The locals recommended this and it was amazing. 10/10. Service was excellent and food was exceptional.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Mexican food! I love Tex-Mex as much as the next person, but it's so refreshing to have authentic Mexican food served in handmade ceramics. The service is quick, the prices are slightly higher than other Mexican restaurants but worth it. It's an unassuming and casual atmosphere, but the food is high quality. We've tried the tacos, tortas, and parrilladas and everything was very good. Next time you are craving Mexican food, I definitely recommend Tlahco.
google avatar

Howard H.

Yelp
Today Apparently the food here is very good but the service has a lot to be desired. They force you to go on to a Yelp waiting list and then they automatically delete it without telling you that your name has come up. There needs to be a serious re-looking at how they set up wait system.
google avatar

Prasath S.

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch here this past week. While the Al Pastor mini tacos were just okay, the Birria Entree and Cochinta Pibil Entree were delicious and paired with their house made tortillas. Their chips, salsa and bean dip are also out of this world.
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Saw this place on Tik Tok and I'm so glad we came to try it out! Place is a little small but they have air conditioning so it's not hot and is comfortable. I didn't know that you can sign on to the waitlist on yelp before you go, so I know that for next time now. The conchas with hot chocolate were so delicious! The huevos sincronizados were so good! I LOVED the papas adobadas! I think I found my new mexican breakfast spot!

Jeffrey Scott C.

Yelp
Tlacho is one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants in SAT! Try the Chilliquilles Divorciado or the Cochinita Pibil...yum And don't forget the Cafe de Oia.
google avatar

Betsy G.

Yelp
Guys this place is a definite must go, I have been there three times and every single time I go with different people they completely love it. Their cafe de holla is so unmatched. It's so good you don't even need to add anything to it their pan dulce is the best that I have had, I had the Chilaquiles, which are so good and spicy my brother-in-law had the birria and wow! Flavors were definitely on point. It was not dry. I can't wait to go here again. It is busy but so worth the wait. It's always bursting with energy in there. I love it thank you guys.
google avatar

Yelp
Visited this place for Brunch! And we totally recommend for you to make it a point to visit while in San Antonio! They had the Best Cafe de Olla! The serving dishes just make this place and food taste amazing. The waitress we had was so nice and patient w us and very friendly- we had a huge group and she didn't mess anything up. This will be one of the places we add to the restaurants we have to visit while in town! Definitely does not disappoint. We made reservations online so we did not have to wait long. Some were waiting a long time while we ate ; we did notice that so I would say make reservations before heading in to avoid this. Oh and you must order the Concha's!!
google avatar

Daisy C.

Yelp
I've been to this spot a few times now, and it's quickly become one of my favorite places in town. There's something so comforting about walking in, the space is cozy and welcoming, and the staff always greets you with a smile. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, with every dish feeling like it was made with real care. It's rare to find a place where the quality stays so high every time you visit. The flavors are vibrant, with just the right balance of spices, and the portions always leave you satisfied. What I love most is how relaxed the vibe is, perfect for catching up with friends or just enjoying a quiet, delicious meal on your own. If you're looking for a place where you'll leave happy and already planning your next visit, this is it!
google avatar

Kristina G.

Yelp
Food was amazing! I definitely pigged out and had to have dessert even though I was full. I fell in love with the Chori Bean and chips and the panqueques con cajeta.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Wowowow every time this place slaps. Staple in the med center area of San Antonio. I don't love Mexican food bc the flavors can be too overwhelming but this place is so good I can't stop eating! Get the hot coco for sure!
google avatar

Florence S.

Yelp
Best Mexican food ever. Terrific service. Well kept and the special custom Mexican service wear and mugs are beautiful. We recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic Mexican food.

Amy Z.

Yelp
The chicken mole enchiladas were perfection!! Tender, juicy, and flavorful! I would go back here often if I lived near by!! The chips and bean dip is also fantastic! I had to get a second helping. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Benito O.

Yelp
The best! Great food, get the breakfast and the Cafe de olla is #1. Best Mexican breakfast in San Antonio
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
Holy smokes...go here! Unassuming location, but incredible food. Has the Alambre con Camaron (Shrimp, onion, bell pepper with Oaxaca cheese). Incredibly flavorful. All three in the group completely enjoyed their meals. And we only planned for one margarita, but those were so good we all talked ourselves into another. Will definitely be back.

Jay M.

Yelp
The authentic Mexican ambience complements the authentic Mexican food. My absolute favorite is enmoladas, although I have not had anything on their menu that was not amazing.
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
1st time here in San Antonio and I knew I had chosen right! This place has something like over 800 reviews, over 4 starts on yelp?! Such flavorful authentic Mexican cuisine, and the staff is very sweet. I also had a sangria (not pictured) but delicious. My five mini street tacos were packed so full of meat and toppings! You get your money's worth here. I had so much food, I had plenty of leftovers for the next day as well. The jalepeno appetizer was the perfect amount of heat - not too much, but not at all soggy or zero heat, perfect crunch. I would order two of these next time, one for myself, and one for my significant other. We both enjoyed our meal, and happily rolled out or this restaurant, on to river walk to see the lights.

Anne W.

Yelp
The food is always good here. We recently brought a friend visiting from out of town, and she thought it was delicious. She ordered a frozen margarita, which didn't come frozen (but on the rocks), but she said it was still good.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Entrance on the corner. A Dios Le Pido by Juanes is playing in the background, he's good. They have fresh juice. We ordered an OJ and a beet juice, guacamole with pico de gallo and Jalapeño, mini chicken street tacos (5 mini) with the borracho beans (drunk) beans with bacon. $59.54 Complimentary chicharron in their bean dip, corn chips and 2 salsas: warm mild salsa, salsa verde and a medium spicy red roasted salsa. The mini tacos were good, the grilled chicken was super flavorful, more than expected. The flautas were good, thick, small though. The guacamole was yummy, not a lot of tomatoes, mostly onion and jalapenos. The plates and bowls come in clay ware. The food and service were both good.
google avatar

Alexis J.

Yelp
excellent food service was good and it was a nice environment i loved the cafe de olla. I got the migas diablas they were so yummy.
google avatar

Priscilla T.

Yelp
Whenever I'm excited I start my review with You guys lol! So you guys.... Let me cut to the important stuff. Everything is delicious. The service was fast almost so fast the waitress would walk off as I was speaking Spanish lol! But overall it was great! I got the chilaquiles and they were delicious! Not to soggy like I have had them at other restraunts. Also you can ask for your eggs to be well Done if you don't care for soggy egg like me! I ended my meal with conchas that could be dipped in the chocolate coca ( as I call it) and whip cream! Everything was delicious. The cafe de olla was on point but I did add a little milk and sugar to it and it made for the perfect warm drink ( be warned I think it's like 6$ ) for that cute little thing. The ambiance is nice a little crowded and can get super packed which know I understand why. My bill was pretty pricey for my plate, drink, conchas, and my daughters two tacos but definitely was worth the price!

Sandra C.

Yelp
Fresh, great service, waitlist worked perfectly! Food was amazing! Fresh ingredients,

Yelp
Hi ya'll, today was another successful experience at Tlahco. We got the a bit later than usual and it was rather busy, yet our food quality didn't get sacrificed. I had the Menudo, the Chicharron sope, cafe de olla and conchas con nata. Menudo was ok, the sope was so tasty and perfectly portioned. Don't even mention the concha, just absolutely reminded me of my abuela (not pictured taken). ;) So you have to try this gem!! Super authentic Mexican food
