7 Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know in September 2025 | Eater Chicago

"South Chicago’s first ramen shop arrives with a focused lineup of tonkatsu, chicken paitan, and vegetable bowls, rounded out by chicken karaage, cucumber salad, and soft serve. Taking over the former TNT Mexican Restaurant space, it comes from the family behind La Fruteria and Macias Produce just down the block on Commercial Avenue." - Jeffy Mai

TNT Ramen - Review - South Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"TNT Ramen ditches the crowded ramen landscape of the North side and brings their bowls of housemade noodles to South Chicago. They have three types of ramen: tonkotsu, chicken paitan, and vegetable, plus smaller dishes like karaage and cucumber salad." - John Ringor

So happy to have such a gem close to home! There’s nothing like it in the neighborhood. We got the cucumber salad which was refreshing and so tasty! We also got the karaage chicken which is super light and very flavorful. They also have a spicy option. The ramen is to die for! We got both the chicken and the tonkotsu and both had very rich, flavorful broths, the noodles were cooked to perfection and you can swap in and swap out toppings from any of the ramen on their menu which was a nice option. Prices were so reasonable and they also DoorDash so super convenient! We will DEFINITELY be coming back. We were also told by our amazing server that they are expanding their menu in the coming months to include rice bowls and dumplings and eventually turning the adjoining space into a cafe with coffee and breakfast. So excited for what’s to come!

We had the spicy miso Karaage as an appetizer it was so delicious I wish we had ordered two. The cucumber salad was dressed well, crunchy, flavorful, spicy and it complimented the spicy miso Karaage very well. It was yummy and refreshing. 🤤 We ordered the chicken ramen and added an extra egg and noodles. It was very flavorful. We added chili oil to the Ramen and let me tell you…kicked it all up a notch. I was surprised by a delicious piece of crispy chicken skin(s) in the ramen. Tasty! We were so full we couldn’t fit dessert. I had a Thai beer, Singha hit the spot. It’s not heavy, it paired well with this meal. We will definitely be back. My only recs, adding a fried chili oil wing to the menu. Mmmm mmmm mmm.

Finally, a ramen shop on the South Side that’s not Hyde Park… my prayers have been answered. I ordered a reg Tonkotsu and a spicy Tonkotsu. The spice was real but still enjoyable, next time I’ll just ask for light spice. Also had the cucumber salad (I could eat this by itself multiple times a week at any time of day) and the chicken karaage. The atmosphere was really cozy and friendly. I talked to one of the workers and they said they’ll be adding new items soon, as well as a cafe area in the space right next door that will be serving breakfast items (both buildings are connected & can be accessed from the outside or inside). Right now theres a small art gallery in that space, featuring some dope photography on display. This place has some good personality and overall the food and the energy of the space is great.

I had such an amazing ramen experience here! They’ve rolled out a delicious new fall menu, and everything we tried was spot on. We ordered the Tonkotsu, cucumber salad, spicy miso karaage, and the apple sip soda (so divine, btw!). Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The Tonkotsu broth was rich and comforting without feeling too heavy, perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying. The noodles had that perfect springy-chewy bite, pairing beautifully with the tender slices of pork. Every topping tasted fresh and intentional, and the marinated egg just melted in my mouth. On top of the food, the service was quick and genuinely friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming—the kind of place you just want to linger in. I’m so happy we finally have a ramen spot on the east side! This is officially my new go-to whenever a ramen craving hits.

Second visit and even better! The Chicken Paitan was rich and comforting—tender shredded chicken, crispy skin, and perfectly jammy eggs. The chef surprised me with a fried chicken bite dish with a zesty sauce. Overall great experience. I’ll be back.

The food is really delicious - highly recommend the chicken appetizer, very crunchy and the sauce pairs so well. We also loved the yuzu ginger fizz, my fiancé downed it so quickly (to my dismay). I got the chicken ramen with the chili oil and it was delicious. But what sets TNT apart is the service, everyone was so welcoming and the food came out very quickly. Would definitely recommend stopping by!

I can’t say enough good things about TNT Ramen! I would eat here everyday if I could. The ambience is incredible, great vibe and such cute decor. The service is 10/10, the head server is a gem. You HAVE to try the soft serve dessert, I haven’t stopped thinking about it since 🍦

I came in late since everything was about to close and i was in the mood for something different. The new ramen spot was the answer. I enjoyed the food. The usual ramen but the side of tiny peppers in oil gave it a nice hint of salty and spicy. You cant go wrong with drinking water; it wont change the taste of your meal so you should be able to really enjoy the flavors of your noodles. At the checkout, if you pay with cash; you wont get change, they round up to the nearest dollar. Hopefully these guys last. Its great to see new businesses in South Chicago. Hopefully we make a comeback. 👎🏿

Yelp
Brought my girlfriend on our six month anniversary and the ramen was great! Excellent service, broth was flavorful and the star of the show was the brûlée egg! 10/10 experience, would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I don't think the reviewers were honest. I was so excited to visit a new restaurant in our area. We went for my birthday lunch. I had the vegetable ramen. The broth had no flavor. The presentation was lacking. For a vegetable bowl I was expecting lots of vegetables. The corn looked old. The staff is very nice and attentive but I would not go back. My friend has an appetizer and a bowl. My friend said it was not good and the chicken was undercooked.
