The 14 Best Breakfast Spots In New Orleans 2024

"There are times we’ve been sitting outside around midnight at Jockey’s, the bar next door to Toast near the Fairgrounds, watching (and smelling) the team cook bread, sauces, and jellies for the next morning. Few things have ever inspired us to get our asses home and go to bed quicker than that. The crepes, toasts, and omelets are all extremely good, but the aebelskivers are the real star of the menu. The puffed pancakes come dusted in powdered sugar and have a bunch of sauces to choose from, the best being the tangy lemon curd. This is also a spot where you’ll be rewarded for waking up early—if you get there between 6:30-7:30am on weekdays, they have a two eggs, bacon, grits, a biscuit, and a cup of coffee deal for $8. Google
My my my, best chicken and waffles ever. Best fried chicken of my life and them grits.. normally I put salt, pepper and butter on my grits. Don't mess with these grits y'all, they're perfect the way they get dropped on your table. This is your perfect little hole in the wall restaurant that has the most delicious food.

Google
Breakfast this morning was absolutely outstanding! Thank you, Adam and your team for a wonderful dining experience! Definitely will visit again when I’m back in New Orleans. Looking forward to trying other menu options. If they are anything like I experienced this morning, I can’t wait to try them. Thanks again for everything!

Google
One of my local friends recommend this place, and I'm so glad they did. The food was amazing, came out quickly, and cooked to perfection. The staff was also super friendly. Definitely will be stopping by next time I'm in town.

Google
BEST chicken and waffles i ever had! A nice sweet, but spicy kick to it!!! ABSOLUTELY recommend ! my husband loved the special they had on shrimp n grits! Mimosas were good, i got pineapple juice! Waitress was very sweet and always consistent on checking on us.

Google
The staff at this location is so friendly and attentive! The food was fresh and yummy! And there wasn’t a wait. I love this location!

Google
The place is a lil dingy but the food is good. Parking is limited. The food was rich in flavor, expertly crafted, and pure joy from start to finish.

Google
Great place to get breakfast or brunch in New Orleans. I got the pancake puffs with lemon. I feel like it’s more of a sharing plate, but it’s one of the items on the menu that popped out to me. The lemon sauce was pretty good, I think I prefer beignets over pancake puffs but again it was too cute not to order. I’ll definitely come back and order their savory dishes though.

Yvonne A

Google
The place had a nice vibe and the food overall was okay, but we personally didn’t enjoy the waffle and pancake — they had a weird sour taste that wasn’t for us. Everything else was fine, just not quite what we expected from brunch classics.

Yelp
Toast is a neighborhood brunch spot. Although this place is tight, it's perfect for catching up with a small group of friends. My two friends and I got there around noon on Sunday. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. Everything on their menu looked amazing! The menu has all the classic breakfast items - omelet, toast, crepe, etc. I had difficulty deciding but eventually went with their Omelette with Ratarouille, Goat Cheese, and Spinach. The food was amazing! The omelet was well-seasoned. The fruits were fresh and sweet. Besides the food, the service was great. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing! I ordered the chicken and waffles, it was really good and well seasoned. I also got the grits and a biscuit on the side, both items were okay, they aren't something I'd reorder. If you plan on sitting in here be sure to try to make a reservation! They stay booked and busy, inside and outside are always filled. This is why I got my order to go.

Yelp
The worst service I've received in many, many years. I'm so disappointed with the treatment we experienced. Let me start by saying that, for some reason, everything we ordered was unavailable. I can understand one item being out of stock, but our server, Ash, had to return to our table several times to adjust our order because they didn't have certain items. We received our appetizer immediately, but then our food *never* came. We sat for at least 30 minutes and watched people who arrived after us finish their meals and pay before we even got ours. Unacceptable. After waiting for a while, I requested to speak to the manager. She was behind the bar and asked me to come over to her for our chat. Strike one. Ma'am, you can tell I'm already disappointed with the service, and now you're making *me* walk over to *you*? Make it make sense! Still, I remained polite and walked over. I explained the situation calmly, but I was met with zero empathy. Despite being polite and clear, she brushed us off and said our food would be out soon. Ma'am, that's not the *point*! We continued to sit and wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually, I told her we were leaving because we went out for breakfast to actually *eat*--not just smell the food others were enjoying. In the end, our drinks and appetizer were comped, and we left to find brunch elsewhere. Michelle apparently is the manager and overall she could do a much better job handling situations like ours. If anyone from management would like to speak to me about this issue I would be more than happy to share additional details. Terri was the best part of our visit and she only sat us. However, she was extremely pleasant and efficient with getting us our table. Shoutout to her.

Yelp
Super small restaurant- be prepared for a wait. Very friendly server. The food was good. I ordered the Bacon, Spinach, and Gruyère Omelette with Toast and side Potatoes. My husband ordered the Toast Burger with Fries and added an egg. The omelette was good but nothing fancy. Toast was really yummy - thick grilled buttery toast. The potatoes were ok - a little oily and needed seasoning. My husband said his burger was great. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food a lot.
google avatar

Sonya J.

Yelp
The best breakfast sandwich. Bacon was crispy and eggs were perfectly cooked. The fries are crisp and just the right amount of salt. Do delicious!
google avatar

Manda H.

Yelp
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooo freaking good! I'm a local and never been! This was our first time and it definitely DID NOT DISAPPOINT! From the hosting to the waitress (Tatiana) the service was super! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Walked in on a rainy Tuesday for brunch. Got seated at the counter right away. The classic breakfast was alright. It has 2 eggs, bacon, biscuit, and grits. Tried the aebelskiver which was okay - puffed pancake with powdered sugar with your own choice of jam/syrup (got the homemade strawberry). Food was alright, nothing special. The guy beside me who came and ordered after me got his food way before mine came.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast spots in the world. Abelskivers will change your life. I like the lemon curd sauce personally. All the toast concoctions are bomb, and I love the omelettes. The hanger steak and eggs for the price might be the best meal in the city. There's a reason this place is always packed and the services outstanding, if you're here for jazz fest and in the area definitely have breakfast here and if you're just here in general it's a

Yelp
Food was delicious! Fresh, hot, tasty. Can't say anything bad about this restaurant. The service was impressive as well. The ambiance very New Orleans with some of the wall art. Very pleasant.
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
This spot is located downtown by the racetrack, located in a residential area so parking can be a bit hard on busy days. Wait was about 10-15 minutes but there is a local dive bar next door so we went there to kill some time. Service was great and the server who works behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. Food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering and this was some of the best catfish I've had in a long time! So good that I thought about ordering another one. Would recommend highly, especially if you're visiting, so you can get a feel of the local life!
google avatar

Yelp
A really wonderful neighborhood breakfast joint with super friendly staff. Terrific menu with plenty of choices. Reasonably priced. They immediately put a big jug of iced water on the table. Love this! Coffee frequently refilled. Fast service. Real maple syrup and real butter. Mmmmm.
google avatar

Melanie A.

Yelp
This place makes homemade toast is so many ways to enjoy. The service was great, we came with our 5 year old and the waiter kept bringing him sheets to color on and interacted with us while we ate. We got the pancake balls and omelets with toast. Incredible food cute place to eat. I love the vibe.

Michael L.

Yelp
The food is very good here. Really liked the grits. But I really appreciate the service! They check on you and respond quickly to what you need. Can you guys do some training for the people who work at Vaucresson's? Vaucresson's ain't right.

Yelp
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way- I'm from Houston. Phew, had to get that off of my chest! Ok, so, as an out of towner, sitting at the bar with a local, here's my honest opinion: this place is fabulous! Let me clarify, the space is tight, the folks casual, the feeling local, and the eats comforting and deliberately diner style delivered. Friendly servers made us feel at home, and the food was just as homey! The Irish coffee is exactly as advertised (wink wink). The pancake puffs (we tried ours with Nutella and lemon curd) were worth any wait, and the toast I tried was exactly as listed. My local girlie states she's never had a bad item here, and I believe her. Local, non-local, this is certainly a spot to try if you're in NOLA!
google avatar

Savannah S.

Yelp
Yes, yes, and yes all over again. I was curious about this place because I've seen a line outside of the establishment on multiple occasions so I decided to stop by after my night shift, as soon as they opened. The vibes are it is a great locals spot to stop for a quick morning breakfast. The inside is intimate, and they have maybe 2-3 tables for outside seating. They also have a bar for solo goers. This place is truly a gem! The service was amazing. I love sitting outside, however the Nola bugs won't let you be great, but this place had great fans to remedy the bugs and offered table fans and it did keep the bugs away! The food was omg!! I was SHOCKED because everything tastes so fresh and like it's made from scratch (which it is). I started off with the aebelskivers w lemon curd and Nutella. I was not crazy about the lemon curd sauce, but they have a lot of sauces to choose from. I will say the lemon curd sauce tastes like it was made in house though, which is always a perk for me, however I did not verify. The aebelskivers themselves were not overly sweet so it was a nice balance to add your own sauce. I took these home and had them for a snack and it tasted even better at home! I also ordered the toast with cream cheese, capers, cured salmon, I added avocado for $1, and I chose my egg to be sunny side up. OMGGGGG. Every single layer of this was to die for! My server told me they cure their salmon in house. My mom had the kids meal of bacon, egg and a biscuit with house made strawberry preserves and that was super delicious too!! Again, everything tasted incredibly fresh. This was an experience I was not expecting. The prices are so reasonable as well! My mom lives in the area and said this will be a new breakfast spot added to her rotation. She is a New Orleans native through and through if that tells you anything. RUN!!!!

Yelp
We love TOAST! Just be prepared to enjoy the wait, there nothing fast about eating here on the weekend, just accept it and enjoy the extra time with your partner, spouse or friends. We have never waited under 30 to 45 minutes to be seated but fear not! There is a bar a couple of doors down where you can grab drinks while waiting. They text you when your table is ready so no worries about going a couple doors down. TOAST is small, loud and very busy- yet comfortable. They do have a small brunch type liquor selection, I love the pineapple mimosas. Don't miss out on the chicken and waffles with cayenne butter. Chicken is perfectly crisp, waffles are fluffy and that butter really and flavor. Eggs made any way are perfectly done, bacon is crispy - yum! Service can take a little while, but like I said earlier, just kick back and enjoy the time out.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting New Orleans and just had brunch at Toast! It was absolutely amazing! Definitely the best thus far! The host and server were great! This spot has definitely moved to the top of my breakfast/brunch list when in New Orleans
google avatar

Felix P.

Yelp
Everything in the menu is fabulous. One of the few places to get a good crêpe in New Orleans. Thank God for Terri at the hostess stand!! Makes everything work out right!!
google avatar

Ava G.

Yelp
I love Toast. I only come about 7-8 times a year but over 10 years that's a lot. The food is consistently good and they have an early bird special between 7 and 7:30. The service is exceptional.
google avatar

Jawhara G.

Yelp
My sister and I placed a to-go order and the food was quick and delicious! We picked it up from the restaurant and there were people dining outside enjoying the day...really cute spot on the corner. The food was bomb! Best grits I've had in the city! The fish was well seasoned as well and went perfectly with the eggs. I would definitely come back on my next visit!
google avatar

Christy T.

Yelp
The service was excellent, and the food was perfect! We wanted to try everything, so we shared a Nutella/banana crepe. Their grits were some of the best I have ever had. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Lanier M.

Yelp
A must try while in New Orleans! Great service and food. We tried a bit of everything.

Sylvanna K.

Yelp
BEST GRITS I EVER HAD! Also customer service was awesome , our food came within 20 minutes and everything was great !
google avatar

Yelp
Very rare you find a place where the food and service is 10/10. Took my picky daughter here and even she loved it. The food was fresh, the staff was attentive and extremely nice. Even though it was busy the place was clean. We waited 45 and it was worth every minute. Those pancake things ( don't make me try and spell it) sooooooo good. Can wait to come try other flavors. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want to get a delicious brunch, be sure to get their early on the weekends! My friend and I showed up around 11:20 AM on a Sunday, and were told it was about an hour wait - which was accurate! Once seated, we both started with a pomegranate mimosa, which was a refreshing start after waiting outside for awhile. Then, we shared the stuffed pancakes (with a wild name I cannot pronounce or spell) with lemon curd - and YUM! The pancakes themselves weren't too sweet and the lemon curd on the side was the perfect touch. For my appetizer, I got the brie and prosciutto crepe which was good - but I wanted to bathe in the side salad. The mustard taragon dressing was honestly the best thing I may have ever eaten. My friend enjoyed her catfish and said the grits needed a bit of extra seasoning - but nothing she couldn't do herself at the table. To finish, our service was fantastic - colloquial and not rushed.

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! The definition of a hole in the wall but HOLY MOLY!! I would come back all the time if I lived here, but I'm just visiting. So thankful to this app for giving me this rec! They offer indoor and outdoor seating, a bar area, and a stylish little upstairs; I love the vibe of this restaurant, in a corner shop on a neighborhood road. The hostess was right with us, quick to seat us in a cute little booth. The waitress was warm, friendly, and attentive. I asked for a recommendation after about 10 minutes browsing the menu myself, there are so many options that sound ridiculously tasty. Glad I went with her suggestion, it was incredible. I got the mushroom, onion, bacon, and Gruyère toast with a side of grits. The flavor combination is insane with that toast. One bite in and I was literally ecstatic to keep eating it. The grits: some of the best I have ever had!! Perfect combination of butter smooth and gritty. Not too soupy, either. I was so full, but I couldn't stop eating it!! We also got the famous Aebelskivers (pancake balls) with traditional maple syrup (drool) and lemon curd sauce. I'm telling you, this lemon curd sauce was like dipping into a lemon dessert bar. The perfect sweet and tart mixture. Also, idk where they get their coffee from, but it is the perfect roast, too. I couldn't get enough. I'm sad I'm out of town but I will definitely hit up toast any time I am in New Orleans, this was a wonderful breakfast spot and experience! Thank you to Nancy, and the creativity of the chefs !
google avatar

Mandisa N.

Yelp
This place is such a cute little hole in the wall. Note that it is in a neighborhood so parking may be difficult to find. The restaurant is small and very popular so beware a wait! Luckily, we were seated pretty quickly and the staff was super friendly! I thoroughly enjoyed my food and actually had to take some home cause I got too stuffed on the fries and pancakes (they are amazing with the lemon curd). Such an awesome breakfast spot. Would definitely recommend you try it out if you haven't :)
google avatar

Ariana P.

Yelp
Top notch eats, congratulations Toast! Serious contender for best breakfast ever. Sat at the bar as per usual, had the Toast with Prosciutto Honey and Ricotta. Wow. Amazing in all ways. Perfectly seasoned, perfect ratio of ingredients. Exquisite. Then, just what I always wanted, donut hole-like pancake bites perfectly cooked, moist and fluffy and maple-y. Great coffee, great music, staff dancing...All-in-all a standout. Thank you, Toast!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
The wait time was not too bad for 11am. We waited about 15-20min for a table of 3. We were served super quick. It was crowded but not too bad. We were able to get our food in a timely manner after ordering. Our server was nice & fast with responding. The food was decent. Nothing too remarkable. The pancake puffs were the highlight! The catfish could've been seasoned a bit more (batter & fish) and the eggs were standard scrambled hard. Overall a decent meal & experience!
google avatar

Janay M.

Yelp
Classic breakfast included the egg, scrambled eggs (my preference), 3 pieces of bacon, creamy grits that were actually the first thing that left my plate because they caught me by surprise not expecting them to be so good! And for a drink, I had a simple almond latte with vanilla flavor. Service was great, my food came seconds after I ordered it. Toast is nestled in a neighborhood on a corner spot which is kind of cool. The inside is very intimate urban and laid back. I can see myself as regular at this breakfast spot.
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Delicious and hot food. The fact that the food was hot already set the tone for a better dining experience where many restaurants have become complacent with serving room temp quality food. The grits were the best! Service was good Ambiance is quaint.
google avatar

Whitney A.

Yelp
Get the grits!! Service was fast and helpful even when the place was booming on a Saturday morning. The chicken and waffles is great as well. I've also tried the goat cheese omelet which is tasty. The place is small so it was a bit loud but I'd definitely recommend.

Angela F.

Yelp
Best lil hole in the wall breakfast spot. Excellent food with great service. Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Logan B.

Yelp
Good food, they got us right in. Right in the French Quarter. Exactly what we are looking for in a fresh French Quarter restaurant. We had breakfast here. It was fantastic. It was quaint, and cool and we love the ambience. I'd go again.
google avatar

Jermaine W.

Yelp
Great home feel service. The staff were nice and welcoming. Food was great! Definitely a recommend. Enjoy great music and vibe.

Martha E.

Yelp
Fun breakfast spot. Staff are all so happy and friendly Food is amazing! Six traveling together and all food was scrumptious
google avatar

Brenda T.

Yelp
A midweek stop for breakfast -the reviews are true! We had the sweet crepes and the chicken & waffles. Tasty creole spiced butter served along side the chicken and syrup for the waffles . Yum ! Coffee was good , strong enough and service was fast and friendly. Kind of a "hole in the wall" but comfortable and fun, with funky music on and servers happy.
google avatar

Asia B.

Yelp
The food in the classic breakfast is always tasty. Their hostess are always very friendly and complementary. The establishment is small but that's expected for a neighborhood restaurant. The ambience is very chill. Takeout is pretty good and prompt. I call in my food is usually ready within 15 minutes.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Food, service and atmosphere is always a vibe. This is my favorite spot for breakfast

Yelp
Toast was mentioned multiple times on our Airbnb guest book, so we had to check it out before we left town. It was conveniently located minutes away from where we stayed, and we were fortunate to only wait about 15 minutes before we were seated. However, even on a Wednesday morning, the lines quickly filled up outside of the establishment by noon. The small restaurant was crowded with dining/waiting customers and busy servers so there was some waiting to order and receive the food, but it was to be expected and we weren't in a rush. Overall, the food was delicious and we were super grateful to have received a wonderful restaurant recommendation! We ordered: o. aebelskivers with lemon curd o. fried chicken & waffles with maple syrup & cayenne butter o. fries with aioli o. a large glass of orange juice I'm not a huge fan of citrus anything, but based on previous Yelp revious about how the lemon curd paired so well with the aebelskivers, I had to give it a try. My husband absolutely loved the lemon curd sauce, but it was too lemony for me. Hence, I paired it with the maple syrup that came with the fried chicken and waffles, and it worked out perfectly. They also have honey at each table, if you're into exploiting bees. The aebelskivers themselves were basically small balls of pancakes with undercooked batter in the center. They reminded us of a sweeter batter of takoyaki, but without anything else inside. It sounds a bit weird as I'm typing this to describe it, but I promise you it's good. However, my favorite was the fried chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection and was deliciously seasoned without it being too salty. Also, the cayenne butter was absolutely amazing --I think the butter was what made everything come together really well. There wasn't anything special about their fries, but it was good nonetheless. What an amazing meal to end our trip!

Kenneth K.

Yelp
Man toast s good af. We are from Texas so I forgot to leave my tastebuds there but once I put those aside I could really taste the freshness of the catfish. My lady had the breakfast sandwich on toast and It was amazing. I probably should've got that also. But the star of the show are pancake balls! Pillowy and airy with great taste. Really don't even need the syrup. Be aware it is small so it gets Smokey from the grill, my eyes started burning after awhile.

Yelp
I had heard from numerous people that their favorite brunch spot is Toast and I can see why! The whole rundown of my Toast dining experience with a friend on a beautiful Sunday morning around 10:30am: Parking: Ample street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Just don't block anyone's driveway! You'll maybe have to walk a short block or two at most. Waitlist: Check in with the host and they'll add you to their waitlist. We were able to view our place in line as well as other parties from our phone. We had about a 30-minute wait before we got our text that our table was ready. There really isn't a waiting area, so options are to sit on the curb, stand around outside, wait in your car, etc. Ambience: Our table happened to be outside. (Other seating options could be inside or at the bar). There are two sides of the restaurant with outdoor tables -- one side is in the shade and seemed to have more foot traffic pass by the tables. The other side, which we got seated at, was very sunny but had a large canvas propped up to serve as both a sunshade and privacy from passersby. It did get a bit warm, as there were still spots through which the sun could shine directly at us. They did have a small fan aimed at us from the ceiling, but it wasn't really doing much honestly. I can't imagine dining outside as we get closer to summer... Food: - Aebelskivers ($10): My Toast fanatic friend insisted I try these. Unfortunately they were out of her favorite sauce (lemon curd), and honestly the rest of the other options were very meh to me but we did end up opting for jam instead. We also asked for their in-house whipped cream. By itself, the aebelskiver tasted exactly as described -- a puffy, airy pancake. The true gem was the WHIPPED CREAM. Amazing. So light and just the right amount of sweetness. Good amount to share between 2 people. - Omelette with bacon, spinach and gruyere ($13): Comes with toast and a choice of a side (I got the Lyonnaise potatoes). Everything tasted great! Potatoes especially were addictively good. I took about 1/3 of my meal home as leftovers. - Ham, eggs, tomato, avocado and pimento cheese waffle sandwich ($14): My friend ordered this and liked it! While not stated on the menu, this came with a side as well. Service: Friendly and attentive! Overall, if you don't mind a bit of a wait, Toast is a solid option for brunch! I am looking forward to returning and trying one of their more signature savory crepes or waffles. Hopefully they will also have lemon curd aebelskivers available! Already craving their Lyonnaise potatoes...

Yelp
Nice place for brunch. The servers and hosts could be more friendly and welcoming. I won't complain about them. I'll just blame it on being overwhelmed because they tend to get slammed, which means they must be good, right?!
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
This was place is a hidden gem. Hospitality is 10000% amazing! We sat and had some yummy coffee I ordered Hanger Steak and it was SO YUMMY! it came with eggs, lyonnaise potatoes, and steak! My fiancé had the breakfast sandwich the gravy was pretty heavy but otherwise he did enjoy it. They did have a waitlist but it wasn't so long at all and actually worth it
google avatar

Yelp
Toast French Quarter location is one of my favorite places to dine when I'm in town. The food is cooked to order and satisfies my tastebuds. The first and last time I visited before this time was in January 2020. This trip was my next time to try them out again. My fingers were crossed that nothing had changed with food and service. It was last week when I ate here again and it was all good just like it was 3 years ago. I had the catfish entree and my sister had the hanger steak entree. Neither of these disappointed ;)
google avatar

Uriia H.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a cold, rainy Saturday. Been wanting to try this place for a while. There was a wait for most but bc I was alone, I was able to snag a counter seat after about 10 min. The coffee was hot and pretty good. The servers were so cheerful and helpful with menu suggestions. I initially wanted grits and catfish but my waitress sold me on the special of the day...fried grit cakes with a shrimp n garlic sauce on top. Served with eggs on the side. This sh$t was phenomenal. I wanted to eat it all but it was a pretty big serving. They really should add this permanently to the menu. I am already dying to return...maybe for the actual toast next time. It's pretty small inside so get there early..there's even an early bird breakfast special. Street parking only.

Alexus M.

Yelp
Great food, great vibes, service was excellent! I will definitely go back next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Jacqueline J.

Yelp
We shared a Bacon Mushroom and cheese crepe with a side of toast and a side egg. So fresh and so good. Hidden in a cute neighborhood. Parking was a bit challenging, but the food was worth the extra effort. Great service too!

Yelp
A friend of mine found this restaurant on TikTok and suggested it while we were in Nola. And I'm really glad she did. The food was sooooooo good, and with all the options in New Orleans for food this place is up there with one of the best places I'd been to for brunch. It's kind of small so not ideal for large parties, we were broken up into 3 tables but not a big enough deal for us to leave. Please add this to your list of places to try next time you're around.
