"It is absolutely worth climbing the 23 steps of the beautiful steep wooden staircase that leads to this tasteful, upscale restaurant, which has been designed with an eye for detail. In this historic location (Munich's oldest town house, where the city's history started to be recorded in 1552), Tohru Nakamura – a Munich-born chef of German-Japanese descent – artfully bridges the gap between classic French and European cuisine and the culinary traditions of Japan. The combination of ingredients and flavours from both cultures makes for a unique twist, for example, in the perfectly cooked, delicately aromatic Koshihikari rice with excellent regional trout caviar and a hint of wasabi, as well as an intense beurre blanc made from fermented rice, sake and elderflower. A tasting menu comprising 10 or eight courses is proposed. The attentive waitstaff are always on hand to elucidate the chef's culinary concept. When it comes to wine recommendations (tip: Rieslings), you are in the best hands with sommelier Christian Rainer. If you’re into fine dining and want something special, this is definitely one to try. The food is high-end and beautifully presented, blending Japanese precision with German and French influences. On the flip side: our waiter service felt a little robotic — very polished but missing some of the warmth that makes an evening feel relaxed. Some dishes stood out; others were good but didn’t quite wow. In short: a strong 4 stars from me. Worth going for the experience and the creativity.

Just excellent! After walking up the dark and steep stairs, the warm and simple interior as well as the team was welcoming us. The Kitchen tour and staff introduction added the personal touch. For the food, there were definitely clear Japanese elements throughout the dinner but I wouldn’t conclude it into fusion. All the fish dishes were exceptional, especially the schrimp dish with the rice, perfectly an umami bomb. The pork and the duck were thick in taste but paired well with the wines. Interestingly the okashi (sweet) part, the seemed petit four didn’t go at the last, but rather in the middle. And the presentation of the okashi was just beautiful. The wine paring had some surprises with some rare growth, and went well with each course.

Each plate strikes a beautiful balance, seamlessly fusing recognizable German and Japanese flavors into something entirely fresh yet comforting. This was our 3rd 3 Star Michelin-rated restaurants after Amador in Austria and Epicure in Paris. I can confidently say that everything was perfect! Without a doubt a unique dining experience with the blend of German and Japanese. You can definitely taste and see the love for both heritage from Chef Tohru. I loved the personal welcome of being brought into the kitchen and meeting everyone as a big fan of "The Bear series". It felt quite intimate getting to know each one and what they do. One memorable touch: at the end of the meal, we were given a postcard that we could send to anyone, with the team handling the mailing. It's a charming and unexpected gesture that captures the spirit of hospitality. We ended the night having my husband's Tohru cookbook signed too.

Tohru, is located in Munich’s oldest town house. Tohru Nakamura, is a Munich-born chef of German-Japanese descent, and the cuisine here reflects the diverse culinary influences of his Japanese father and German mother. Tohru gained two Michelin stars just three months of opening, (so not only in Dubai). The food has bold and strong flavours with perfect balance between European cuisine and Japanese ingredients. Very polished and professional service. This is a must to visit restaurant when in Munich.

Wow - these 3 letters might describe the experience. Starting with a warm, pleasant welcome. A tour through the kitchen and then the very warm and nice ambient location. We were served some excellent aperitif, and then the fun leveled up. Wow again so many nice dishes all different this was amazing, we had the normal and the vegetarian menu and both were amazing in all regards. From super exciting things like the Belgian caviar with Japanese rice, all the way through excellent creations. The wine did his additional job very well some fine drinks matching well to the food but still being each a highlight in itself. The sommelier was so knowledgeable and presented each wine with passion knowledge and a patient way of explaining everything. We also enjoyed a nice Austrian spirit very much ! All in almost nothing you can do better for us, all in all it was an awesome experience. If I had to find a critic in itself I would call out the price of some of the drinks, with 20-30/0.1l not all of them in my eyes were such super high priced ones and you could have given a discount.

I’ve eaten at probably over 100 Michelin star restaurants. This one was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The experience was amazing, starting off with a tour of the kitchen and introduction to all the staff including the chef. The restaurant was well decorated and comforting. The chairs were amazingly comfortable. All the staff was wonderful. The food was fantastic. Every dish was great. In almost all tasting menus there are a few dishes you question what they were trying to accomplish but not here… highly recommend….

💯 Hands down 5-stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Most memorably delicious were: 👍 toast of mussels 👍 wagyu & smoked eel 👍 lake trout 👍 catfish 👍 pork chin Thank you Chef and team‼️ 😢 Misses… Other dishes were slightly salty or the texture was too unusual. I’m a huge dessert fan, but unfortunately the desserts here did not particularly wow me. And dinner took 4 hours… the wait between courses was a tad too long for me.

Chef Tohru created a menu that pays homage to both of his German and Japanese heritage. The skate, trout, wagyu, and pork were outstanding. The wagyu with smoked eel was probably the best wagyu dish that I have had. He managed to make the beef not too rich tasting. The pork that is from his grandparents' farm has a very unique and lovely flavor. Every dish was also very beautifully presented. The wine list is impressive with many rare options. Service is top notch. The attention to details is unparalleled. The restaurant is in a historical building where the town scribes used to live and write. This restaurant is definitely a gem.
