NYC New Restaurant Openings: November 2024 - Eater NY

"The couple behind longtime Williamsburg restaurant Shalom Japan have added a Japanese sandwich counter next door. Tokidoki features items like a turkey teriyaki as well as rice-based sandwiches, onigirazu, gaining steam in New York." - Emma Orlow

Tokidoki - Review - Williamsburg - New York - The Infatuation

"The Shalom Japan team has a new spot in Williamsburg, where you can get onigiri, coffee, and pastrami shingled onto milk bread. Tokidoki also has cocktails, daily bento. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
Nice atmosphere and friendly service, but have to agree that the onigiri is terribly underfilled. I expected a bit more than rice with a hint of salmon flavor. I could see coming here for a coffee or something, but I wouldn't return for the food.

Google
Onigiris look huge, but are 99% filled with rice. They are barely filled and cost about $14 for 2…

Very cute cafe and nice staff. I had a rice ball and miso soup combo. The onigiri was very delicious (pictured ikura + cooked salmon) and the miso soup was very hearty- Full of vegetables. I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.

I come in for the Matcha because it is high-quality compared to other matchas in the area. My only complaint is that it is very expensive. Upwards of eight dollars, for a very small cup of Matcha. It makes it hard to justify. If it was a regular size like a 12 or 16 ounce usually found at cafes this place would be an easy five stars.

Pork sando- bread had crust and wasnt milk bread. Sauce was overwhelming. Onigiri arrived hot and wrapped in cellophane. Who wants soggy nori and steamed spicy tuna? Gross. Get some combini wrappers or don't do onigiri delivery. Not great.

Good ingredients but always kind of lacking. I can’t help but feel a little ripped off every time I go. Also, I prefer crunchy seaweed for onigiri. Wish they wrapped them differently. Too pricey for what you get.

Inspired, yummy, creative food by an incredible husband / wife chef duo. Love this place so much, been there many times already and will be making it a weekly spot.

This place is a diamond in the rough near the Marcy J/M train stop. Sure, they have great coffee and tea, but the real move here is the food. My first time in today I tried a berry bar and a (panko fried Reuben something). Both of which were the highlight of my culinary week. 10/10 Do yourself a favor and go to TOKIDOKI. I shall return for the onigiri

Yelp
After passing by when I either just ate or had my coffee, I finally ventured inside after one weekday morning. I ordered the egg and cheese sando with pastrami add-on. It did not disappoint. Eggs were fluffy and the pastrami was just the right amount. The flavors balanced each other well. The bread itself was very soft and perfectly cut into two. The space itself is simple but does the job. They have a display of rice balls and other treats. I definitely will make it point to dine in one of these days.

Yelp
Tokidoki is a new aesthetic Japanese daytime (weekdays only) coffee and sando shop concept that I can only assume is affiliated with the stalwart Shalom Japan next door. I tried the egg and cheese sando and the miso soup on the side. The miso soup was rich with nicely tender, thick slabs of daikon and a generous portion of wakame, both of which I appreciated. The sando was not exactly what I was expecting, in that it appeared to be served on sandwich bread rather than milk bread. The omelette was nicely fluffy.

Yelp
A great selection of Sandos, Onigiri, Bento, and pastry on their first day. I got the delicious Karaage Bento and the wonderful Pastrami, Egg and Cheese Sando
