The Best Kurdish, Kashmiri, Uyghur, and Basque Restaurants in London | Eater London

"Cristina Ruiz grew up in San Sebastián, eating her baker grandfather’s apple cake, while elsewhere in the city, Juan Mari Arzak and Pedro Subijana were pioneering the New Basque Cuisine. Now, she owns Tokova, which is part of the night life of Tooting’s historic Broadway Market (by day, it’s still grocers, fishmongers, butchers, and a pet shop). Ruiz’s restaurant is all about good-humoured food, ranging from the playfully absurd – skewers of chorizo suspended over a flaming ceramic pig – to the straightforwardly delicious, a winning trifecta of duck egg, blood sausage, and paprika migas (breadcrumbs). Celeriac curled in a manchego and Idiazábal sauce would rival any good cauliflower cheese. And there’s just a sprinkling of the old New with a dusting of dehydrated olives." - Hester van Hensbergen

London’s Best Basque Cheesecake | Where to Eat Burnt Cheesecake | Eater London

"Basque restaurant Tokova located in Tooting’s Broadway Market offers a Basque-inspired sharing menu that epitomises the traditions of contemporary Basque cooking whilst championing local and wild seasonal produce. Tokova serves its cheesecake with Marcona almonds, which provide pleasingly contrasting crunch, and a tart red berry coulis which cuts through the intense richness of the cream cheese as well as intercepting the cheesecake’s monochrome tones of black burnt crust and white cream centre with a flash of red." - Emma Louise Pudge

I have been here a couple times now and every time you are welcomed by Cristina who is the most amazing hostess and also chef cooking all the incredible food. The atmosphere is wonderful and if you get to chat to Cristina when she isn’t running around serving, cooking and making sure everyone is enjoying their evening then it’s even a more incredible experience. If you want a relaxed evening where you can enjoy amazing food (mostly gluten free as well) and long chats then this is the place to be!!! Thank you.

Really nice place, the staff were very knowledgeable about the basque culture and cuisine. The food was incredible, and almost everything apart from a couple of starters was gluten free and coeliac friendly. It’s tucked at the back of Broadway market and had a good vibe. Would recommend!

Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere, fantastic service. This is my third time here and won't be my last. All the food is extreemly well presented and the wine, which hails from the Basque region, is outstanding. Just watch out for the long pour. Tokova has a good range of vegetarian options, is dog friendly (there was a house dog there when we went) and has an amazing market vibe.

One to visit again, no question. Small and intimate like most Broadway Market restaurants, but unique food very well prepared you don't always get. I wouldn't call myself a foodie but loved every dish, that's all that counts for me. Very kind host and chef make for a wonderful evening. Oh, and little cooper the dog...rounds it off perfectly, so cute.

Had a lovely meal here last Saturday. It was easy to book a table online and the staff were very welcoming on arrival. We ordered six dishes as tapas - they came out one after another which made it feel like a six course dinner and it worked really well, each one coming almost immediately after finishing the previous. The chorizo, lamb, duck egg and black pudding and celeriac ribbons were all excellent. The squid ink rice could have been a bit less salty and I prefer my pardon peppers a little more cooked but still enjoyed them. It’s relatively expensive but worth it.

Surely this is the best restaurant I've been to in London. Tokova combines the best of Basque cuisine with the welcoming and indie vibes of an open market. I went there with my girlfriend and I was impressed with how the dishes were well presented, elaborated, and unique. Very chic and tasty! I drank a few glasses of the house wine and I would be lying if I say that I am a wine expert, but I can assure you that this was a great wine. On our way back home we were both feeling light and satisfied, with no headaches on the following day...Last but not least, we had the opportunity to meet the owner, she was so kind, a true Basque Londoner. Tokova is great and authentic with an amazing service, congrats to the team!!

Simply wow! An absolutely delicious meal from this family restaurant in Tooting Market. The food was exceptional especially the white asparagus, the duck egg & black pudding, prawns & scallops, flaming chorizo and signature black rice. Really well priced and in the heart of Tooting market. We will be back!!
