This place is small and we happened upon it one day. Their steak is cooked to perfection and their sushi is always fresh and very good. The decor/environment makes the dining experience even more special.

Google
Highly recommend! This is the best sushi I’ve had in St. Louis. Very fresh! Enjoyed every bite today. Chefs choice of salmon Nigiri was excellent. Servers were great as well. Will definitely be back with friends!

Google
Good sushi and chicken fried rice. Crab rangoons were decent but had an especially oily taste (like maybe they weren’t drained well after frying). Overall, it was easy to order online and was pretty tasty. Edit: I went again for dine in. The staff was friendly and the food was decent. However, the service was unacceptable. My wife ordered sushi and I had chicken fried rice. My wife was done eating her sushi well before my chicken fried rice came out. They apologized for the delay, but never offered an explanation. It was not a busy night. They should have served the entrees together like every other restaurant.

Google
Tokyo Sushi is a great spot if you’re looking for Japanese cuisine in St. Louis. It was conveniently located near our hotel and we were able to walk across the street to it. We luckily beat the dinner rush as this place does get busy! We ordered the seaweed salad, miso soup, katsu pork, and katsu chicken. All of it was delicious! The chicken itself was flavored well that my husband said he didn’t even need the sauce. However, I personally like the taste of katsu sauce to mine because it unlocks a certain umami to it so you can’t go wrong either way. The miso soup was also very light and not overwhelming salty. It was also my husband’s first time trying Asahi beer and he liked it! Upon entering, you do have to wait before being seated. The staff is super friendly and if we’re back again, we will definitely visit. Overall, it’s a must-try and there are lots on the menu to check out!

Google
I was pleasantly surprised to find such fresh sashimi, especially since it’s not an expensive omakase spot. We had salmon, toro, eel, all incredibly fresh and impressive. They also offer uni from Hokkaido and California sometimes, which sell out fast because they’re so fresh. The scallop sashimi was a delightful first for me—so sweet! The rolls are amazing too; the lobster roll had an entire lobster in it. The chef is top-notch, and they have a great selection of Japanese sake to complement the food. This place truly exceeded my expectations for an affordable sushi restaurant.

Allison Kusmitch

Google
They always have wonderful food and service (Carrie). Bring your friends and family in for lunch or dinner, and you won’t be disappointed. Also, you must try their crab rangoon. Delicious!

Google
delicious food. I ate in and got 3 orders to go. Staff was great, chef showed extra care packing up the to go food. I will def come back again

Google
I’m not sure where to start. The food was technically edible, but far from good, definitely not great. We eat sushi at least once a week, and I’d rank this dead last. Service was equally disappointing. Instead of remembering who ordered what, the staff “auctioned off” dishes to the table. Our sushi and entrees arrived crammed together on one plate for four people, with no explanation of which roll belonged to whom. The waitress whispered the entire time and avoided eye contact, making the whole experience feel awkward and unwelcoming. Overall, very underwhelming.

Yelp
Stop what you're doing right now, and give this place a try. I'm not even joking, this was the best sushi restaurant I have tried in quite some time. Let me give you the run down on our experience: My Dad and I have been looking for a good sushi spot for quite some time now. Tokyo Sushi is about a 10 minute drive for both of us, so we decided to stop in for dinner last night. This is a lovely restaurant inside, very clean and lots of comfortable seating. Our server was phenomenal. He was prompt, attentive, and very friendly. We got started with some Gyoza, and also split a Philly Roll. We also decided to add on some Chicken Fried Rice incase those 2 weren't sufficient in filling us up. Everything was bursting with flavor and tasted extremely fresh. The Gyoza were soft and flavorful and the Philly Roll was super light and fresh, but the best item by a long shot was the Chicken Fried Rice. It tasted like something a luxury hibachi restaurant would whip up. The chicken was nice and crispy and the rice was browned and salty like it should be. We will be back SOON to try more delicious menu items. Can't believe this place has been flying under our radar for so long!

Yelp
This is our go-to sushi place. We've probably visited over a dozen times. Good choices and excellent service. Sushi rice-to-fish ratio is good and always fresh-tasting. They used to have yakitori as a regular item on the menu and it now makes an appearance as a special - tasty. They are a sushi place but I've had their teriyaki grilled chicken and their steak - both are excellent, especially with the sauce in the side (I'm not a sweet sauce fan). And of course service - excellent! The food has us craving, but the wait staffs professionalism and attentiveness has us returning.

Yelp
I'm from the Bay Area of California, so definitely picky with my sushi spots. Andy Frisella recommended Tokyo Sushi on his podcast RealAF, so my friends and I gave it a try. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I would absolutely return

Yelp
Amazing sushi! Everything was so fresh and the presentation was amazing, the shrimp head was so crunchy and tasty I will definitely come back for more!!!

Yelp
Had a great time at Tokyo Sushi! The aesthetics of the restaurant are nice and clean. The sushi was very good. We really liked everything that we ordered and the presentations of each were so pretty. Service was good as well. It gets pretty busy around dinner time. There's a small-ish parking lot for parking. Will definitely be back for more :)

Yelp
So happy to find this little gem! We give it five stars for cleanliness, friendliness, deliciousness and innovativeness (homemade chopsticks helpers). I only wish we had tried it sooner!

Yelp
This was my first time getting sushi to go from here and it was a very quick and easy experience! Tokyo sushi has a simple website that tells you what's inside of all of their rolls and their to-go packaging was super cute! On top of this they got my order out quick and knew exactly which order was mine when I got there! I haven't eaten inside of the restraint yet- however their sushi was super fresh and I had a great experience eating it when I got home!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
What a great sushi place! Their lunch menu is perfect, and I loved the bento box! The staff was attentive without hovering, and the atmosphere is very bright and open. I had the shrimp tempura, but now I want to go back and try some of the other options. Thank you for the great lunch today!

Yelp
This hidden gem in Southwest St. Louis offers omakase-level sashimi and nigiri, featuring rare delicacies like toro and Japanese uni--hard to find in the Midwest. The scallop sashimi was a revelation, incredibly fresh and delicate from the first bite. Their rolls are generously packed with premium ingredients, including whole lobsters. Everything is so fresh that if you arrive later in the evening, some items might already be sold out!

Yelp
We have visited Tokyo Sushi a few times a year over the past few years. Always a pleasant experience. This time was different. I'm not sure if they hired an entirely new staff or if they just didn't care but we had to sit there and make eye contact with servers for about 10 minutes before someone came and took our drink order. The children's menu was a roll with a salad and soup for $20. The crab rolls we ordered were all imitation crab for $16+ per roll. We ended up leaving there with a bill of $200 and wondered what we really ate. We will most likely be hungry again in 2 hrs. I'd say it's not worth it for a meal as you can find this sushi anywhere and the service was subpar.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Super fresh delicious lunch special with two sushi rolls, a side salad and miso soup.

Yelp
The food is always good here! My daughter and I were craving sushi, so we came to our favorite. The restaurant is always so clean, and the service is amazing. Cipriano was very personable, and his recommendations were on point. We got edmame for an appetizer and split a California roll and a Yummy Roll. If you are in the area of Sunset Hills and love sushi, make sure you stop by!

Yelp
Service: 3.5/5 Food: 3/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Value: 3/5 My son and I went there for dinner. It was ok. Or, as he would put it, "mid."

Yelp
Great spot for sushi! Everything tasted fresh and the service was great! Left to right: Las Vegas, Spicy Tuna, Crazy, Red Dragon

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst Japanese food I've ever had. The chicken teriyaki was bland chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzled over it. The chicken had a spoiled taste to it and you could smell it was spoiled when it came to the table. Ordered a sushi roll that finally came out 10 minutes after we decided we couldn't eat the food they brought out. Sushi was marginal at best, I've had better Japanese food at Taco Bell. Kind of ridiculous to pay $50 for a rice dinner. We couldn't even get a simple refill of water. Place should be shut down until they figure out how to prepare a proper meal. Considering our waitress ignored us the entire time, she wouldn't have known why our plates were still full of food and we didn't ask for to go boxes, it would be hard to know the food you serve is terrible. Went here based on some reviews but wow, completely disappointed to say the least.
google avatar

Jonnita W.

Yelp
Quiet and clean location. A few tables filled and more customers arrived for their to go orders. I was seated fairly quickly and my roll and soup were prepared quick as well. Small location with a small parking lot access also. I ordered the spicy salmon roll. Did not seem that spicy to me. So I would ask to turn up the heat on any orders that you get from here that you want spicy. Overall a decent place to enjoy simple rolls

Yelp
I was leary about the new ownership at first but it's better than before. Food is spot on and the sushi is super fresh. Best spot in Sunset Hills/Kirkwood area for sushi.

Phyllis F.

Yelp
sold me lunch that was supposed to include soup and salad but when it came out they said it didn't come with soup or salad. no apology or attempt to make it right. boo--DO BETTER. Sushi rolls were overpriced and just okay.

Yelp
Our favorite place for sushi in STL. We've been coming for years and it's always great.

Yelp
The place is very cute and it gives off a very relaxed vibe when you walk in the door. The food is amazing and really good! I loved the Salmon Nigiri and the Lobster roll was really great! I recommend the Alaskan roll. Our waiter was really nice and the food came out quickly. It was also really fun watching the chefs make our sushi. I would recommend this restaurant and I will be back soon! For people who have been here before the menu is changing and some of the rolls will be taken off the menu and new rolls will be added! I am so excited to come back!

Carrie S.

Yelp
Tokyo Sushi is my favorite sushi restaurant in St. Louis (and that's saying a lot... I've been to quite a few places). The rice and the fish are always SUPER fresh, the prices are good, and the service is quick. It's also pretty quiet and peaceful in the restaurant, so it's always a pleasant dining experience. My favorite roll here is probably the caterpillar roll, but their spicy tuna rolls are great too! I've never tried any of the appetizers or other dishes, but you honestly can't go wrong with any of the sushi rolls here.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a solid 2 star. My wife might argue its a 1 star. We dined in for Lunch on a Thursday and we were the only customers in the restaurant after 2 pm. With that premise identified, the service wasn't good after we received our food. The Server only came to refill my wife's drink when we were close to leaving. We did not finish our food. We did not want our leftovers. My wife had twelve piece sashimi dish. It was not fresh. It Tasted very fishy. I had two sushi rolls. The Tokyo special roll had cooked food on top of a cold roll. It was not combination and the fish didn't seem fresh either. The Las Vegas roll is a constant in most Sushi restaurants. I have had the Las Vegas rolls many times. This is the first time it had an overwhelming oil flavor that makes me think they haven't changed or cleaned the cooking oil.

Yelp
First time trying this place out and I'm glad I did! The sushi was amazing and we also got the chicken friend rice and it was one of the best I had in a while! The food was fresh and the service was great

Yelp
My husband and I have been solid followers of wherever Ken and Hana decide to set up shop for sushi. We fell in love with Sapporo Sushi back in the day (circa 2006) on Manchester Rd, then they moved downtown to open Sapporo 2. Shortly thereafter, they sold that location and were Sushi Hana in Affton, MO. A few months ago they passed Sushi Hana to a family member and took over from another family member to run Tokyo Sushi. We have always enjoyed the sushi rolls. It is not only good value for money but the plating (especially if you get a lot and if it comes on a sushi boat) is pleasing to the eyes as they have a good eye for presentation! I especially like the Spicy Yellowtail Roll, Sunset Roll and Salmon Skin Roll. The husband prefers Philly Rolls (fried or not) and eel avocado. If ordering Nigiri, try Mackerel if you can take the strong taste. The Fatty Tuna (toro) if available is pricey but is melt-in-your-mouth good! Do also try the salad because the dressing is special. I've never had it elsewhere. Lastly, we had a birthday party there a few weeks ago and they were super accommodating. We all had a great time. Attached pictures of sushi boat, sushi bridge and pineapple fish!

Hec B.

Yelp
Service was fine. The sushi was really poor. Small pieces of fish, the rolls fell apart, and they just didn't taste very good. Felt the price was pretty steep. $60 for 2 rolls and 2 beers. Expected better quality for the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Good find! Took a new route home and asked navigation to find sushi and here we are. Clean place, friendly service. Menu options are good, they seen to have some pretty good lunch specials so I will be back to try those too. Decent prices, about what you'd expect for a quality sushi spot. The Lobster roll was very yummy, along with the crazy roll. Had shrimp tempura appetizer, and I would have liked more variety with the 3 pieces of small veggies that came with... But the flavor was very good. Also ordered saki and loved they brought it in a bucket with ice! Will be back and recommend!

Chad H.

Yelp
I am sad to say we just had the worst sushi experience from Tokyo Sushi in the past 15 years. Normally we have gone there for sushi for every one of my kids birthdays since at least 2010. I realize the Fried Philly is an American twist on sushi but it has always been exceptionally good in the past. Additionally their fried rice has always been wonderful. Today however both were nearly inedible. To the point we just spent over a hundred dollars there and had to toss most of it in the trash and will be making something else for dinner at home. Additionally there was barely enough wasabi for 1 person yet we had four people eating. So no wasabi to give that blast of take your breath away sinus clearing heat that I love so much about sushi. The sashimi was good. but again just two tiny turds of wasabi so the vast majority of our sashimi had zero wasabi. The batter used on the fried philly was more like a fortune cookie crossed with an over cooked wanton wrapper. Disgustingly thick and soggy on the inside and tough and hard on the outside. A far cry from the normal light crisp tempura we have had there for over a decade. So likely this was a bad night. Maybe a new sushi chef? Maybe just an off night. We will absolutely give them another chance to redeem themselves. One bad meal out of dozens maybe over a hundred of consistently good if not great meals there. But tonight was extremely disappointing. If ordering to-go and you like wasabi be sure they give you an ice cream scoop worth of the green stuff. If we had been eating in the restaurant we would have sent back the fried philly rolls, the fried rice, and the miso soup which was just awful tonight. I hope this isn't due to a new sushi chef who has their own ways of "improving" by making things taste awful. And I still recommend Tokyo Sushi but we are submitting this review in hopes that someone at TS is able to keep their normally excellent service and foods up to the same quality standards as we have experienced in the past. Something went terribly wrong tonight.

Yelp
I passed this place for years because of the location and outward appearance ...huge mistake. After a couple credible sources telling me to go, I had to try ...went back twice in 2 weeks. Great Sushi, not overly crowded and comparable prices. Great little tucked away place in Sunset Hills
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
I went to get my good to-go. I grabbed a nice California roll. The Cali roll did not have the big chunck of fake crab but it was chopped up and I liked it. I also liked that they were super friendly. Very rarely when someone make a to-go order so the worker actually talk to them. they were talking to me and I appreciated it. I recommend this place I didn't really like my other roll but that was my fault for not reading the description. I wish they had pictures of the rolls

Yelp
It isn't fancy, but man is it good! I'm so glad we were able to swing by for lunch while we were in St. Louis. Tokyo Sushi has a really simple vibe. The most decorated area is probably the sushi bar. But the lighting is great, the area is clean, and the staff is quick. We started with the tuna tataki which was pretty good and seared just enough. I ordered the dragon roll and an order of salmon nigiri. The portion size was on point! The maki was one bite and the nigiri was about one and a half (so perfect!). The dragon roll wasn't drenched in eel sauce and the eel on top was so tasty. The salmon was buttery smooth heaven. My hubby ordered the spicy tuna and udon noodles and he seemed to like both (although I think he might've perused the menu a little too quick because I think he was expected an udon noodle soup). The pricing was good, but it's worth mentioning that the price is the same as what I've paid in similar sushi restaurants that have complimentary miso soup and/or salad (not a big deal since you can still order both). I left happy and content with my roll and order of nigiri, but if there's a next time I'll be ordering soup too.

Yelp
Tokyo Sushi is a great find in the new neighborhood! Having to give up my favorite sushi place isn't easy but I am not about to drive 30 minutes for sushi when there are perfectly acceptable options in Kirkwood, Webster Groves, and Sunset Hills. Located right off of Lindbergh, it is somewhat easy to miss unless you are specifically looking for it. The inside of the restaurant is big enough, well-kept, and the staff were very friendly. They have several tables good for parties of 2 or more. There is not a proper hostess table at the entrance but they did seat us right away when we came in the door and the waitress arrived in no time to take drink orders. I ordered some squid salad to start. It came in a rather large square bowl and was filled near the top. It was definitely way too much for 1 person. I ate about half of it. For the record, it tasted like any other squid salad I have had from everywhere else which is good but they give you more for the same price as other places. For the rolls, we shared four. I love spicy tuna and theirs is quite good. The rainbow roll is pretty standard and the crazy roll was good. Their rolls were of standard size as well. Not too small but not exactly like my favorite place where they make massive-sized rolls. I have to admit, I think I am sold after the first visit and will surely be back in the near future.

Yelp
Wanted to try a new-to-us Sushi restaurant nearby (to Fenton), so Tokyo Sushi was the lucky winner. Arrived shortly after 1pm on a Tuesday for lunch; they close at 2:30pm. All dine-in were seated in booths along one side; there are optional cushions to use on the wooden seats. We ordered Calamari Tempura and Shrimp (with veg) Tempura. Calamari were a meager handful of straight chunks --not the usual rings other restaurants serve-- and were on the fishy side for us. Shrimp w/ veg tempura were good. Son ordered Chicken Teriyaki lunch bento (comes with Miso soup, salad, rice and 2 pieces of California roll). His Miso soup came out with tempuras. He said his chicken was not as good as he has eaten elsewhere, and not worth $11.95; maybe dinner portion is not as thin sliced. Daughter and I ordered Caterpillar roll (shrimp, imitation crab, avocado, fish roe) and Tokyo Special roll (eel &imitation crab topped with baked scallop). If you're hungry or in a hurry don't order Tokyo Special because extra time is needed to bake scallop --it was the first time I've had rolls steaming on top. While the idea is creative to put a layer of baked scallop on top of a roll, it was hard to separate and eat, and the end rolls didn't have any scallop so I had to get some from the middle. Caterpillar roll was ok. Bill was $59.xx which felt pricey for what we got. Not sure we'll be back soon.

Yelp
The sushi is good and the prices are decent. Would I go out of my way to come back here-- probably not. Would I eat here again if I was in the area-- definitely.

Yelp
I had eaten here with friends a few weeks ago and had a very enjoyable meal. Took a couple of new friends there last Saturday and had a different experience. Their chicken dish came out cold. Not cold from having cooled off after cooking, but cold from having been taken out of the refrigerator. Mind you, this dish was supposed to be served hot. called over the waitress and explained the food was cold. She gave no response or apology, just removed the food, returning a while later with the food which was now ok. To her credit she did return later to see if the food was okay but still no apology. Had to flag her down again to get the check. We paid and she said thanks or some such. But never apologized for the ice cold food. My friends said they would never return. Mistakes can happen but rudeness is never excusable.

Yelp
Great discovery! This sushi place is a little hidden jewel. The decoration is tasteful and cozy, the service kind and everyone is so polite. We ordered the Rainbow Roll which was really delicious which a crunchy center (who doesn't love crunchy ?!) and the Dragon Roll which was also a very good choice. I'm definitely going back to this restaurant.

Steve H.

Yelp
I've been a longtime customer and would say the price-quality-convenience equation of Tokyo Sushi has been average to above average over the years. Tonight, however, the teriyaki salmon I ordered - while beautifully char-grilled on the outside - did not seem cooked on the inside. I am a fan of sashimi and also a fan of quality fish cooked rare, like seared ahi. In the case of my salmon, I was unsure of the quality and opted not to chance eating undercooked fish that may not be up to sashimi grade. My order was to go, and I had no way to zap the fish to finish cooking it. I called the restaurant and the staff member was nice enough, refunding the cost of my meal and advising me not to eat it in the name of safety. I do not expect to return to Tokyo Sushi after tonight's experience.

Ali W.

Yelp
One of my favorite sushi places in stl! It's always quick and fresh. I love the crazy roll!

Ethan C.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was 15. Some of the best sushi you can buy over here. The atmosphere is immaculate; super small and cozy space with well crafted sushi, this stuff isn't bullshit. Even through the recession this place has held true to their values, no shrinkflation. Rice is still sticky and high quality, the amount of imitation crab is GENEROUS in almost every roll; this place doesn't disappoint. QUALITY SUSHI, my go-to place.
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
Food on the pricey side and nothing out of the ordinary. Ordered seaweed salad (with shrimp and crab) and it had a piece of shrimp and two pieces of crab just placed on top, nothing special. Yummy Roll, okay, I have bought better rolls at the grocery stores that have promotions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I think they could do better with the rolls. Husband had some kind of noodles (Udon I think) and they looked like straight out of a ramen box, flavor also nothing out of the ordinary. Yakitori (chicken) for appetizer okay. Don't think we are going back. Too bad the place is nice and clean.
google avatar

Madi Y.

Yelp
Always good sushi in house or to go and the staff is so kind! Their monthly special rolls are my favorite but their traditional menu rolls are also delicious! Definitely recommend Tokyo Sushi.

Tiffany I.

Yelp
We tried this for dinner last week and it was just OK. Nothing was great, but it wasn't bad. We would not go back, lots of better sushi out there
google avatar

justin s.

Yelp
The place has tons of succulents and decorative plants. The decorations were very authentic. Paper shades and ornamental bamboo casings. Went for the lunch special it serves both miso soup and salad which is important for thE fUll experience Some places do either one or the other and it does noT feel as hospitable. Went with my parents and we had a very nice Bosnian waiter. Had a real positive attitude about everything. They really should have SAKE specials. And they don't. If they did I could see a lot more folks I in here. The fish was fresh and in good portion.
google avatar

Angelina O.

Yelp
Please dine at Tokyo Sushi if you are interested in waiting over an hour for 3 rolls and see countless take out orders prioritized over dining in.

Myka A.

Yelp
The food was good, service was great. I'd said the sushi was mid quality, nothing fantastic, but not terrible.
google avatar

Yelp
Let's just get this out of the way: I am not a sushi expert. I know what I like, though, and I really like Tokyo Sushi. We come here often enough that I think we might be recognized as regulars. (Maybe semi-regulars) We always start off with an order of edamame. It always makes us feel super healthy. We also really like the sashimi here. We either get the sampler plate of sashimi and split it or we each get our own. It always tastes very fresh and not at all fishy. The rolls are good, too. I like the spicy tuna and the spicy salmon and the crazy rolls. We've tried others and have enjoyed them all. The service is very friendly. We've ordered out a few times, too. Call it in ahead of time and it's usually ready when we get there. Is it high end sushi? Gourmet? Would it satisfy snooty sushi lovers? I don't know. But I do know that I've left satisfied every time.

Yelp
2nd time here. Honestly came back for the house salad. Perfect amount of ginger dressing. I think i could literally just come here for that. However, the sushi is just as good. Mostly had rolls and honestly can't remember excacally which ones, but they were all good. My son got a shrimp tempura dinner that was incredibly good. Overall pretty impressed. Will continue to go back when the urge arrives and in the area.

Yelp
Really tasty fresh sushi, good service in a nice atmosphere. Went with my guy and 2 friends. Started with miso soup that was tasty. Ordered lots of rolls to share; Tokyo Special, Tuna Avocado, Spicy Tuna, Las Vegas Roll, and two other rolls whose name I can't recall. Also had 3 orders of nigiri (eel, salmon and tuna). The Las Vegas was decadent and has all the flavors of crab Rangoon in a sushi roll. The Tuna Avocado had very fresh tuna and perfect avocado. Spicy Tuna was a hit. Tokyo Special Roll was the ultimate with eel and crab in the roll and scallops overtop. One of the rolls I can't remember the name of had tuna and a variety of fresh vegetables. The other had salmon overtop and masago. All were a hit and I look forward to having more. Total cost was around $22 per person for 4 people plus tip. Also had a small sake and two green teas.

Yelp
Our favorite sushi spot in STL! Their takeout is great, but their dine in is even better, great ambiance.
