"At this Chinese wine bar in Dimes Square, you can pair squishy XO sauce rice cakes with a zippy white from Austria, or spicy cold poached chicken with chili oil with a funky Alsatian pinot noir. There are usually reservations available if you don’t mind sitting at the bar, which has the best view of crab fried rice cooking in a massive wok. It’s a great spot for a drink and a snack before going out in this sceney neighborhood." - bryan kim, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick
"If drinking natural wine served in razor-thin glasses while listening to ’90s hip-hop appeals to you, Tolo should be your next Dimes Square reservation. It manages to skirt some of the tiresome trends of the surrounding restaurants, and the regional Chinese cooking is reliable and unpretentious. Maybe it’s because there aren’t many seats, maybe it’s because the restaurant still has the awning from the previous tenant (an old Chinatown cafe), but Tolo feels like it attracts a more nonchalant crowd than its neighbors, and for that, we respect it." - carina finn koeppicus, bryan kim, hannah albertine, will hartman
"Tolo is a wine bar where you can pair things like cold poached chicken in a málà chili oil with an earthy-yet-zippy Alsatian pinot noir (thanks to their friends at Parcelle). The chef is from Hong Kong, but the menu is derived from a few different regions of China. It’s dark, the kitchen is open, the green beans are spicy and gingery and full of ground pork, and it’s a great spot to go for a casual date, or a hangout with a couple of friends—though the restaurant is small, so big groups are no-go." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, neha talreja, will hartman
"A wine-forward spot where natty Burgundies accompany hearty, comforting plates like beef and broccoli, creating an approachable pairing-focused dining experience." - Caroline Hatchett
"Tolo successfully pairs Parcelle’s natural wines with punchy plates of Chinese food and ’90s hip-hop jams, somehow skirting the annoyingness of surrounding Dimes Square restaurants. There's a standout sweet-and-sour fried fish, and red candles burn on little round tables." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah
