I’ve been coming to Tomato Pie for years and it never fails. The pizza is one of the best in LA. The service is outstanding. The staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions or offer suggestions. The atmosphere is super chill and the dining area is always clean. 5 stars all the way for Tomato Pie in Dena!

Google
Their pizzas are absolutely fantastic. A great balance between crunchy and soft. Not a lot of seating inside, I assume that’s why they don’t have fountain drinks in order to have a faster customer turn around. They offer by the slice as well. Very small parking lot in the back and a couple small tables outside. Limited canned and bottled drinks available. Their bathrooms are clean.

Tomato Pie Pizza Joint is a pizza joint that makes the perfect NY-Style pizza in So.Pasadena. I arrived as a first time customer in this location. I was warmly greeted by a middle aged staff, at the counter. I perused their menu (pizza, pastas, subs, appetizers, salads) and decided to get a slice of Miss Green and Unsweetened Green Tea. Pizza was flavorful and its crust was great. It’s exactly the kind of NY style pizza taste that I’m accustomed growing up in NYC. Service was great. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere was relaxing. Their sleek interior 60’s design that stands out compared to other pizza joint. Prices seem fair. Plenty of street and rear parking lot. Overall, I loved every bite of Ms Green. I highly recommend this joint.

Visiting family in South Pasadena from Canada, got here for a bite before a shopping trip .. Ordered a Caesar Salad, draft beer and a NY style Primo pizza which was cooked perfectly and had great flavour. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely coming back to try the other pizzas .

I have been going to the south Pasadena location every Monday for years and years. Quality of the pizza is consistently excellent and the service is impeccable. Corey gives me flexibility on pick up time and my pizza is always hot fresh out of the oven at time of pickup. If for whatever he’s not there, the other staff know me well and give me the same superb service . I couldn’t ask for better medicine for the Monday blues. Thanks to all!

Google
Tomato Pie goes the extra lengths to make sure their crust is super light and has that perfect crunch when you bite in! They use a special process of filtration with there water to give it the correct pH to make this pizza have the same great crust as NYC style pizza. If you're missing home give this pizza a try, it's the best place I've found to get a slice in So Cal! Great selection of toppings ready to on pre made slices!

Google
We love tomato pie! It’s our favorite pizza, it’s where I want to eat on my birthday. It makes any bad day tuned around!! I am treated like family whenever I come and I have great quality no matter how busy they get! My favorite pizza is Mr. Fungai!!! We love Hunter and his team!! Yay for all the support they put back in our community! So grateful they are here!

Google
I’m not a big pizza person but this joint changed that for me! They make the best pizzas I’ve ever had. The crust is perfection & ingredients taste so fresh & savory. They can get quite busy which slows down getting your order & the joint is small & overcrowded at times. The best pizzas ever!

Yelp
Love the lunch special, 2 slices and a drink. Pizza is yummy, ambiance is peaceful and family-friendly. Recommend!

Yelp
Pizza craving!! Decided to Yelp it and stumbled upon this pizza joint. Called and ordered a Deep Dish Utica. Now for the flavor, it was light, sweet, and savory. I enjoyed the focaccia bread and the tomato sauce; however, I had envisioned a deep dish loaded with cheese. This pizza was solid in taste and texture.

Yelp
Recently a friend brought a pizza from Tomato Pie to my Super Bowl party. I didn't take a photo because I thought I already reviewed this place. Turns out I haven't. What??? I've purchased slices in the past, and since I haven't written a review I stopped in with my nephew after he passed his driving test. Inside reminded me of a New York style pizzeria. Whole pies are available (NY Style & Sicilian) in addition to a variety of slices, including Gluten free & Vegan. Pasta, salads, wings, subs, calzones, desserts are also available and they even have beer and wine. Quinn took our order and was so nice. Not only was he attentive to us but also the patrons in the dining area. My nephew ordered a slice of the Hawaiian, and I got a Sicilian cheese. Quinn heated our slices for us. The Sicilian was as good as I remembered. The crust was soft & chewy with a slightly crisp bottom. The sauce had a good flavor, and the herbs sprinkled on the cheese enhanced the flavor. My nephew loved his NY style slice. Our bellies were happy & satisfied.

Yelp
Oh goodness. I can only review one thing, because I've only ordered one thing, but the Syracuse Hot Wing pizza is my truth. I have never not finished the entire pizza, which is equal parts impressive (for the restaurant) and sad (for me). Delivers great; tastes great; highly recommend!

Yelp
Tomato Pie is solid pizza joint worth a visit. They have three locations; this review is for their South Pasadena location. We ordered for take-out a Sicilian deep dish, with half as the classic "Tomato Pie" ($25) consisting of Marinara, Romano, and Olive Oil, and half "Utica", a spicy Pepperoni, Mozzerella, with hot honey and pesto cream drizzle ($36). Each of these came atop a crispy sicilian bread that was perhaps slightly thick for my taste, but rich nonetheless. The Utica was delicious, crisp, surprisingly spicy, and succulent. The simpler Tomato Pie was also excellent, emphasizing an excellent homemade tomato sauce. Both were filling and delicious. The service was friendly and helpful. I ordered takeout over the phone and they were quick to take my order, make recommendations, and give me a realistic waiting time which I could plan around. As we did take-out, I will not comment on the ambiance, but the inside was clean and presented a nice retro vibe. The value is excellent. Our large pizza, including tax, came to around $30. Two hefty Sicilian slices are enough to satisfy most people. At 8 slices, this comes to about $7.50/person, or $3.75 a slice, a great price. Individual slices are for sale as well. Tomato Pie Pizza Joint, while not a game-changer, provides a good pie, great sauce, and an exceptional price. If you're in the South Pas area, give the Tomato a visit! Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Value: 5/5

Yelp
Let's be real - you can't find a real NYC style pizza in Los Angeles - but Tomato Pie Pizza Joint comes as close as we can get on the west coast. The service is great, the establishment gives off cool retro vibes, and the pizza is delicious. The pizza sauce is delicious, the crust is crispy, and you can order by the slice. Also, if you order two slices you get a free drink! This is my favorite pizza joint in L.A.

Yelp
Whoever made this pizza slice tonight for my son to prank his friend, which ultimately never happened, so it ended up at my hands. This is the best thing ever! It needs to be on your menu. The South Spice-a-dena

Yelp
I have ordered take out a few times. It's expensive, but until my last visit, it was worth every penny. I had ordered pizza with lots of toppings. The last pizza was a plain cheese. The crust and sauce were very good, and that's it. The cheese on this pizza wasn't enough to cover a personal pizza. I'm guessing it had about 1/4 cup of cheese, and that's being generous. I was very disappointed and angry. Such a waste of $30.

Yelp
We had their pasta instead of pizza. We thought they were good portion size and my kids liked it. Although the pasta menu is pretty small - it is a decent option especially if you just want something simple and kids would eat,

Yelp
Came in on a Friday night 30 minutes before closing to get pizzas by the slice. The workers are very friendly and seemed very happy to do their job. We ordered 6 total slices: 2 pepperoni, 2 bbq chicken, 1 blanco, 1 very funghi. It took about 15 minutes to warmup the slices, I came by the register to check on my order and it felt like they forgot my order was heating up because the employee who put them in the oven didn't know who put them there. So it could've probably taken 10 minutes but likely they got too busy. Pizzas were fairly priced at around $4-$5 each. The pizzas were on the well done side (a little more than I'd hoped) but I'd probably come back to order an entire pie. My favorite slice was the fungi (mushroom)!

Valeria S.

Yelp
My husband and I love coming here. We always order the calzone and hot wings. The hot wings are sooooo good and the calzone is perfect, cheesy and flavorful. I recently tried the pizza and it's also very good. Also, the service is always good!
google avatar

Yelp
They serve some of the best price-to-quality ratio pizza in the area. The slices are solid, and it's hard to beat what you get for the price. I think their square slices could use a bit of improvement texture-wise. Not as crisp as I usually prefer, but overall everything is enjoyable. Cannoli's are pretty meh though. There's a large variety to choose from, and the staff are always friendly. It's never too busy, which makes it a great spot to grab a slice quickly. Reliable, affordable, and worth a visit.

Yelp
This is a great little pizza spot. It's got a clean interior with cute retro designs. The pizza was fresh and delicious. I love the tomato pie, I wanted more than one slice !

Yelp
Love this place. my neighbor discovered it and asked me to pick up some pies for him the next time I was in the area, so I got one for myself as well, and it didn't disappoint. while I was waiting, I had a few slices and that was great. the booths have seats that look like they came from a 60s bowling center, which was a huge plus. after l took them home, my car smelled like pizza for a week, and I'm not complaining. as far as the pizza is concerned, let me say this: Once you go Grandma, you never go back!

Yelp
When Macleods on York closed, I was devastated. Then we tried Tomato Pie. Life is good again. Terrific staff, delicious pizza, and ice cold beer. Really enjoy coming here.

Yelp
Well this little spot in South Pas may be small, but has a huge heart. Deliciousness served in every way that can be. The food is made to order, as it should be, and once you put that slice in your mouth your tastebuds go haywire. It's all things scrumptious The interior is spotless and the service provided is fantastic. The owner is here most days and is always very pleasant and welcoming. There is ample parking on the side of the building, front and rear. Also, the rear offers an exterior patio area of you prefer fresh air. All in all, you won't regret Tomato Pie. Give it a try when your in our neck of the woods. You'll love it. Not only will you love it, but you are supporting local small business and business owner. Tomato Pie, we will be back and to all of our foodies we do indeed and without any hesitation recommend this spot. Perfectly priced and fresh is all you need to know, just get yourselves here already!!!!

Yelp
Grandma pizza + buffalo wings = one happy mama. Ordered through DoorDash and I am so satisfied with my order. I've never had a bad experience at tomato pie. Keep it up!

Yelp
David Portnoy brought me here. If you don't know who he is, check out his one bite pizza reviews on Youtube. Our experience lived up to his rating of 7.5. Definitely a must try if you're a pizza lover. They sell hand tossed NY style pizzas, Sicilian style slices, salads, appetizers, desserts, calzones and even vegan options. Pies are also sold by the slice, 14" or 18". Quality ingredients and delicious!! Their amazing pizza definitely matches the service. It was close to closing time when we arrived and everyone was super friendly! Shout out to Corey who made our first visit memorable! Super friendly and professional! We will definitely be back to try other pies and we highly recommend you stop by and try some great pizza with people to match!

Yelp
Tomato pie pizza is so tasty and the customer service is wonderful. This place is a gem and the locals know it, it's so crowded on Fridays so order early.

Yelp
Tomato Pie Pizza Joint never disappoints! Ordering carry out has never been easier with their online ordering system. It allows you to customize your pizza, if needed, with ease, and offers an accurate time for pick up. Upon arrival, you're always greeted with the friendliest faces and warmest service, as well as the savory aroma of their freshly fired pizzas. Their indoor dining area is cute and quaint, and perfect for a quick bite. We ordered a medium and finished the entire pie amongst 3 adults for a little snack before dinner. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza joint now. I ordered two slices to go - Notorious SMG & BBQ Chicken. The pies had come out of the oven fairly recently but the clerk still heated them briefly in the pizza oven so the crust was perfectly crispy to the last bite. I really appreciated the crunchy chewy outer crust - first time I've found that around here in years. The BBQ Chicken the quintessential example of what it should be - nice sized chunks of chicken, sweet-salty BBQ sauce and red onion slivers. The SMG - sausage, mushroom & garlic was also excellent. It had plenty if meat, a nice zing of heat and the garlic level was just right. Service was fast and cheerful. Casual comfortable ambiance. Lots of street parking. I'll be back soon, bringing my friends & having some beer with my pie.

Hunger E.

Yelp
Visited: 2024-12 Notes: chain, serves NY style slices Cheese slice $3.6: solid. Nice crisp & flavor. Would get again. The notorious (SMG) $4.6: sausage mushroom and garlic. Minor lip and tongue spicy. Good flavors. Would get again. Overall: friendly service and reasonable prices for slices. Would come back again to support them.

Yelp
Pizza looks great! But not very flavorful. Good crust and good texture, just lacks flavor in the sauce and other places. I'd come back if I was close by. I would not go out of the way to eat here! Lots of better pizza spots out there!

Yelp
First of all WOW. This place has such a great vibe. My girlfriends and I came in looking for a heart shaped pizza for our galentines and the sweet owner I believe it was, was able to accommodate for us! This place is friendly, clean and the food is GREAT. Shoutout to Hunter for the great experience! This is definitely a place I will never mind spending my money at!
google avatar

Yelp
Artisan pizza joint with nice by-the-slice order with amazing pasta and to-die-for garlic knots! I'd definitely coming back for the garlic knots alone. There's many pizzas to choose, there will be something that caters to your wants. If you like creamy stuff, the alfredo is truly comfort food.

Yelp
my husband and I came in here for a quick bite and this place did not disappoint! They have a big glass shelf with all the pizzas that they serve by the slice and they had great options besides just pepperoni and cheese. We chose 2 slices of the Utica which is like a pepperoni pie but drizzled in a green sauce and hot honey. My husband chose the primo pie which had lots of meat and jalapeños, and mushrooms. I chose the Grandma pie which had chunks of tomato, cheese and basil. Service was great! Server was nice, friendly, and made sure our pizza came out piping hot. 4 slices of pizzas and 3 drinks came out to be $24 which is not bad at all. Definitely stopping by again.

Yelp
South Pasadena best pizza spot! It's delicious, perfectly spread of tomato sauce with loaded cheese thin crust~ yummy~ we always get their cheese pizza, blanco pizza with their famous meatballs!!! It's so good~ if you haven't tried tomato pie what are you waiting for?! You must check them out! Staff members are all so friendly~ pretty spacious inside and they do have a little place outside also. Street parking and they do have their own parking lot but small. Go check them out ~ you'll love them as much as I do!

Yelp
Slices were exceptional: chewy dough with the perfect crunch, a bright and flavorful sauce with the perfect amount of cheese, definitely will be coming back every time I'm in south Pasadena. Reasonable prices, friendly service. If you're looking for a top 5 slice in LA county, you have to come here

Yelp
I visited this place in the summer time after recently moving to SoCal and it was probably the greatest pizza I have ever tried!! The inside of the spot is small, but still cozy and comforting with the themed decorations. I ordered the Utica style pizza in the picture and it's def my go-to.

Yelp
The best Pizza by the slice! Had the Primo and Great Grandma. Quick service even during the lunch rush

Yelp
This shi was bomb asl. servers were so nice and music was vibes asf. definitely recommend the Syracuse pizza literally already thinking about the next time i can have this in my mouth.

Tinamarie M.

Yelp
The service is fast, the pizza is great and the garlic knots take it over the top! It takes us longer to drive here from Covina than it does to eat, but it's worth it! Mr. White is my go to slice of heaven. The prices are fantastic. The pizza here is the closest I've come to NY style pizza. It's become one of our regular places for pizza.

Yelp
New York style pizza and baked ziti filled our bellies. We have been going there since the pandemic. Staff very friendly too.

Yelp
Tomato Pie is one of my favorite pizza joints, and my fiance and I usually visit this location in South Pasadena when we are around the area. It's a cute small place with more seating inside than you may expect from how narrow the storefront looks. They also have a few outdoor tables in the back that you can sit at too. Bathrooms and tables are always clean, and the retro design makes the whole space very charming. Water, utensils, napkins, and extra seasonings (red chili flakes, parmesan, oregano, etc) are all self serve. My fiance and I usually enjoy sharing a few slices from the display case that they reheat for you in the oven because they come out hot and crispy. This time we got a chef's special slice, grandma pie slice, and really really funghi slice. The grandma pie is always delicious in its simplicity of sweet tomatoes, thinly shredded basil, and interspersed melted cheese. The funghi slice was my new favorite because it had punchy garlic pesto flavor that didn't overpower the fresher tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, and funky feta. We have ordered a whole pie before in the past from the Los Feliz location, but it takes a long time to bake, the bottom crust doesn't end up as crispy because it's a whole pie sitting in a pizza box, and it was also a lot of pizza for two people. So we just prefer to enjoy a variety of 3-4 different crispy slices instead. Overall, Tomato Pie is still one of my favorite places to get NY style pizza and we will definitely be back the next time I want pizza!

Yelp
All the credit for this find goes to my awesome yelp buddy (Hi Cindy S ) . Once she gave her stamp of approval on the pizza here, I just knew I had to try it. The interior is clean and fresh with plenty of tables to sit. There are also a couple tables outside in the back The cashier that rang me up was patient and polite. Since this was my first visit, I kept taking yelp pictures , lol. I ordered a large pepperoni NY thin crust and it was everything you want out of a pizza. For me, the crust is what makes a good pizza. If a place gets that right, everything else follows. The crust is nice and crunchy with damn near no grease. Don't know how they do it. I can't wait to order the Butcher on my next visit. That sucker looked amazing. There is a little parking lot on the side of the building. If you love that NY thin crust pizza. You will love this place. I personally love these large foldable slices.

Yelp
Casual little pizza shop. Great lunch spot in south Pasadena! Staff was super nice and helpful. This is my new favorite pizza spot 100%. The deep dish utica and tomato pie are absolutely delicious. 10/10. I would recommend to anyone in the area! Parking lot in the back for super convenient parking!

Yelp
As a Jersey girl it's been hard to find a good pie in the area. We'll, here it is. The pizza is just like home. The first bite of the slice was delicious, crisp and amazing flavor. We ordered a couple different slices to try, a pasta and salad. Yes, a bit much. We ended up taking the salad and the pasta home. We took a couple slices home for tomorrow as well as a cannoli and slice of cheesecake. It looks small on the outside but they have quite a few tables inside, as well as a table or 2 out back. You order at the counter, where they have pies in the case so you can get slices or just order whole pies. No soda machine, cans or bottles in a small case. If eating in, you'll get a number and they bring the food to you. We will definitely be back. Delicious!

Yelp
100% recommend Tomato Pie! The Utica is the real star, tasty and the perfect balance of all thee flavors. And to add, the staff is on top of it! Great service and friendly every. single. time. Support small business!

Yelp
Rock solid place. Their grandma slices are a def yay and taste fantastic. Feel like the Sicilian can be a bit hit/miss. The ambiance is very nice, the place is clean, and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend!

Yelp
I ordered a to go meatball sandwich asked for everything separated, and this is what I got

Yelp
Is this the best pizza spot around? Maybe, possibly, YES. The only real competitor I can think of is Ozzy's but that's all the way over in Glendale. Of course, I imagine it's local rival would be Pie Life for the NY, or Triple Beam for the sicilian, but Tomato Pie Pizza Joint (TPPJ)'s NY is significantly better than the former and their Sicilian is marginally better than the latter. The sicilian and the NY are very very good, crunch to knock your socks off the way pizza should. Fun flavors, classics, it's all there and the place itself has great vibes. Cute older diner type place. Staff were cool, kind, and quick. Even a good deal honestly. Triple Beam comparison: I feel like triple beams schtick is elaborate toppings, which it does super well, but the crunch on the TPPJ is hard to compete with and probably coming at around half the price. Ordered: Sicilian Utica Sicilian Tomato Pie NY cheese NY BBQ Chicken Constructive: The tomato sauce could be better, missing some tomato zing, I'm also a little worried about the cheese on the NY, don't want this ending up like Pie Life (great crust, cheap tasting cheese). Ozzys sauce and cheese on this crust would easily be the best slice on the west coast. I wonder if the grandma slice cheese is different, I'll have to get that next time Loved this spot, will be coming back ASAP

Yelp
Best authentic NY .... Utica for the deep dish is the way to go! Yummy combo of sweet and spice and such a god crunch! Love the options for slices
google avatar

Nathaniel M.

Yelp
Pizza was crazy good, tried 5 of their pizzas, the notorious smg and bbq chicken were the best by far. Service was awesome, the owner was super chill and talkative. Vibe was sick, classic style decor.

Paige Q.

Yelp
Pizza isn't my go to when I go out to eat but my god I've never dreamed of a pizza more than this one. Their Syracuse is amazing and the cilantro on the BBQ is so fresh. This place is a gem and I'm finding reasons to come to Pasadena just so I can eat here when I actually live 45 minutes away without traffic. Not only is the food to die for, the staff here has been nothing but helpful and incredibly nice. The service and food is a 10/10. Disclaimer: I took a bite out of each slice before I took a picture
google avatar

Layla L.

Yelp
I came here for a slice of pizza but everything in the case looked old and crusty so rather than walking out like I should have, I decided to spend twice the amount and order a $25 calzone. It was soo flavorless. And mostly thick crust that was nearly impossible to cut with the plastic knife they have. They didn't put sauce in it so I only had the tiny cup on the side. Overall it was so disappointing. I should've known from the look of the pizza. Their crust sucks.

Yelp
Haven't enjoyed an artisan pizza lunch in a long time, and this place certainly hit the mark with it's variety and ample selection of vegan friendly choices. I have provided annotated pictures in this review that show what you get for the menu choices. The majority of offerings are very thin crusted NY style pizzas. It was nice to enjoy a sampling of their deep dish Chicago style tomato pie. The garlic knot bread was moist and soft which complemented the three healthy leafy green dishes that we ordered. Broccolini and kale in my salads (considered an appetizer on their menu) were quite nice touches. I found the slices to not feel heavy or salty, with the sprinkled cheeses to taste rich and flavorful. My favorite flavor was the blanco veggie pizza, with generous sprinklings of broccoli and tomato slices. Hope to order from this place soon again.

Yelp
Great location, very clean and spacious pizza joint. This location is more aesthetically pleasing than other pizza spots in the area. Good place to go beat the summer heat in comfort and decent food. As far as the food goes though it is very average. The pizza I'd say may be a notch below average. Chicken wings were very fatty with very little flavor at all. Service is kind of cold here staff does not seem to have much enthusiasm. The pastas here may be the best thing on the menu. Given that most of the pizza spots in this area are very lack luster this is a decent choice.
