Phoenix’s 10 Best Breweries | Eater Phoenix

"Long considered a pinnacle of Arizona small-town brewing, Tombstone opened its very first metro Phoenix outpost in fall 2020. Sure, Matt Brown and head brewer Weedy Weidenthal have developed a deserved reputation for IPAs, including doubles and triples. But Tombstone does a whole lot more, including a fruited berliner weisse, doppelbock, and seasonal drops like festbier and winter ale. The flagship IPAs still slap. But tracking the shifting brewing winds, Tombstone now pours a much wider range of beer styles, illustrating finesse at lower IBUs." - Chris Malloy

Google
I got the Bang Bang Chicken sandwich and Raspberry Berliner drink. Drink and Sandwhich were delicious. The chicken was fried and moist. Fries were an add-on of $3 when the standard is a side of salad. Bun was a bit dry. Recommendation: a little more sauce on the sandwich, fry slightly less for additional juiciness and put some butter on the bun. Overall: I enjoyed and recommend it

Google
I love the beer and the people who work here are polite, kind, and on point. The food is absolutely delicious. They have darts here too!

Google
Great beer, Great food, Great service! Nice atmosphere with lots of games. Lots of beer choices, menu is heavy on the IPAs which I like! Food menu is creative and flavorful. We enjoyed everything we ordered. (Patty Melt, Mac and cheese, pretzel, chicken strips and BLT). MY ONLY COMPLAINT..maybe put a little butter on the bread for the sandwiches and give it a good crust! Overall, I highly recommend this place!

Google
The Tombstone IPA #2 is by far our favorite. They have many options and I highly recommend this place. They have fresh fried pork rinds and the hot sauce is amazing, also have an assortment of olives and feta. We didn't realize this place was this local! I guess I assumed it was down in Tombstone, AZ, but boy, am I glad I was wrong. I'm looking g forward to making my way through all of their wonderful looking beer selections. It seems they have a new one every single time I go, or one that I did not see previously and I'm just so excited to go through all of their beers. Definitely worth a trip! Great eats! Even better beer varieties. Nice atmosphere, nice staff. I will definitely be returning. Coming back several times later, the triple rye IPA is by far our new favorite, close runner up is The Oregon Lots II... John is the GM and he takes care of making sure you can get this wonderful beer in your area.

Google

The beers are Amazing in the top 2 of Phoenix🍻Had the Bavarian side pull Pilsner which is Incredible, WC IPA which is an old school hop bomb, and the Oregon Lots Hazy IPA all very Nice! Great service and super friendly staff. John the manager is the Best! Must stop if in Phoenix. Also the short rib sandwich is KILLER🍻Squatchy Brew Dude Approved🦧👍🍻

Google
Great brewery. Plenty of bar seating. Everyone is super friendly, especially Sunny and Ellen. Plenty of canned beer to go. Premade cocktails are delicious. Couldn't ask for a better vibe than this place.

Google
Tombstone Brewery beer is my favorite, and in my opinion the best brewery in Arizona. I've been the the brewery in Tombstone plenty of times, but never to the Phoenix location. I really liked the fact they serve food there and they don't disappoint. It's glorified bar food, but my burger was great and cooked to perfection and my girlfriend's ahi tuna sandwich was tasty as well. Top it off with churros and ice cream for dessert, and let's not forget the most delicious IPA's and you got yourself a great brew/bar!

Linda Woolsey

Google
The black & blue burger is rich and robust without the heartburn. If you love blue cheese I highly recommend it. Real chill atmosphere.

Yelp
Never in a million years did I think I'd be raving about a cubano from Tombstone Brewing, but here we are!! It was DELICIOUS!! If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know I'm a bit cubano-obsessed and this one tops the charts. The serving size was huge so I was able to make two meals of it. Definitely splurge and get the fries, they are also amazing. I had a hazy IPA, can't remember what it was called, but that was also great. Service was outstanding. One heads up, if you're going for sports, they don't have a ton of TVs, so wouldn't be the best spot for Sunday football if you like watching multiple games. But otherwise it was a huge space and the vibe was super casual and laid back.

Yelp
From south to north, tombstone finds a home in phx. The food I "pizza" perfect . The beer, come on, do you even need to ask... the ambiance hits a nostalgic tone every time I walk in. The music brings the atmosphere to life. The service is so inviting, you never wanna leave. I'm from Nj, and this is always a "must stop" on my phx travels !

Bonnie J.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. We enjoyed the Brussels sprouts Salad and burger. I had a 4 hops light. Delicious.

Yelp
3.5 stars... This joint has been on my list for awhile. And finally hit it up! Opted for a flight of 4 beers and found 2 I really liked! For grub I chose the Arcadia salad... mixed greens, sweet potato, pecans, apples...what more do you need? I'd like a fruity vinaigrette! Ambiance is strip mall pub, service was friendly, and prices are a bit high for PHX, but food was good. Lots of average here, and with so many options in the valley I can't commit to an encore... at first glance this joint does not make the list.

Yelp
I was here for an event that Tombstone so generously hosted. I arrived early and got into the menu before the vent actually started. Previously operated by Heliobasin in this space, Tombstone has brought their own great beer and their own delicious menu. Super chill vibe, sports are in and tons of seating without feeling like too much. I def recommend the braised short rib sandwich (pickled onions make it) and the pretzel bites if you're looking for food. The beer is the highlight, I had the Belgian Tripel and Irish stout. Both are absolutely amazing, everything thing you are looking for and more. John and his staff are an awesome group, I felt like I was with long time friends within minutes.

Yelp
Great food and awesome Brews! Staff was friendly and the service was great! We come in for Spring Training every year and this is definitely a new stop for us.

Yelp
This is a real deal brewery with amazing beer and the food is really really good. Burgers are amazing. And their salad dressings are scratch made. Must try.

Yelp
Went to TBC North expecting 10 ppl. 14 showed up. Wendy, our server, was so friendly and accommodating. We shared appetizers, had burgers and beers . All was terrific. My fav IPA beer was "What day is it". Brought home a 4-pk of their flagship brew Masterpiece West Coast IPA They always have innovative beers and sours on tap and canned.
google avatar

Yelp
We have come here a couple of times, and the beer and the food is really good. I had the Helles Lagar and my husband had the Rye IPA. We also had the mussel appetizer with Noble bread. It was amazing. Tonight, which is Saturday, they have a great blues band. I highly recommend this place. There is good beer and good food. What more could you ask?

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Tombstone Brewing's line up and have enjoyed their beers many times back home in Tucson. I was happy to see this location. At first we weren't sure if it was open or not because the tint on the windows made it look closed, but the bright "open" sign was correct and we went in to be warmly welcomed by the bartender. A good sized crowd situated at the bar and tables; we bellied up to the bar and were given a food and drink menu. I, of course, went with one of their beers (always great) and was pleased with the selection on the menu. The food was served quickly and was excellent. I look forward to going back here again when we're in Phoenix. It's worth the drive.

Yelp
Excellent food. Great beers. Nachos were fabulous. Service was prompt. Great place for a pre hockey meal at the local rink. Also, games for kids and adults.

Yelp
@TombstoneBeer, PHX on a slow Sunday evening. Sampled a flight of 4 assorted beers; 3 were outstanding, not a fan of Milk Stouts but tried it. The standout was the Jalapeno Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato. and Avocado. The garlic aioli completed the sandwich! The Raspberry Sour complemented the heat of the jalapeno bacon. Will return next time I'm in Phoenix.

Yelp
Really cool spot, lights dimmed and just a relaxing setting , did not get food but looked amazing from people.around me.. Got a flight if you into barely wine multiple.selections.

Yelp
I've been to the OG Tombstone Brewing location in Tombstone and the PHX location. Both are great. We have a real love for craft beer that is great tasting with clean flavors. Pros: - beer is awesome! - food at this location is very tasty. We split the short rib sandwich. - good variety of beers available on tap with some fun, unique styles (such as the Strawberry Shortcake Sour, Kakigori, Maris the Classy Otter Barleywine) and the expected options as well. Cons: - I didn't take enough photos lol. Otherwise none noted.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning. It was super empty as it should've been at that time of day. The beer tender was friendly and made conversation. I only got one beer as I was going to be brewery hopping. I got the Miner's Mild and it was really good. I wish I could've tried more beer but I was limited.
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
Surprised to come across this location. Good beers, had a light beer, (can't recall which one), because it was the balmy 110 outside. Refreshing and crisp. Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Jon T.

Yelp
Can't get enough of this place. Incredible food. Incredible beer. Good Ambiance. Service is phenomenal. 10/10 every time.
google avatar

Tyson R.

Yelp
Stopped in to pick up a to go order for me and my wife and had to try their beer of course. The bartender was super friendly and offered a few samples as I was asking questions about their beer and the profiles etc... the burgers are awesome, the beers are great.. I'd call it a nice little gem to try if you're a brewery guy/gal!
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
Surprisingly delicious food. I had the Arcadia salad and husband had the patty melt. Really good. Beer is always good!!
google avatar

Gina G.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance and service. Kevin was so nice and helpful. Great food and beer. This place should go far. The Johnsons. Gina and Darry

Carla S.

Yelp
We head over to this great local brewery often to hear live music and have great food & beer with friends...this past weekend we held our high school reunion at Tombstone and it was awesome!! Great staff!
google avatar

Trekforbeer B.

Yelp
Solid beer, quick service and the food was good. I'd be back for sure. I'd skip the pork rinds, way to spicy, tenders were great.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
This is a great new addition to the area. They took over the Helio Basin space and their beer is a major upgrade. Tombstone's IPAs in particular are fantastic and I took home a four pack of The Pit triple IPA which was phenomenal. I also ordered the nachos with carne asada and they were tasty as well. I'd love to see a little more decor or TVs with sports. It's really kinda quiet in the bar area with mostly beer geeks at this point. It would be great to have a little more of an energetic vibe.
google avatar

Nadine R.

Yelp
What can I say! Even if you're not a beer fan, this place is for Foodies as well! Holly the Chef, whom we got to meet, and Donny who so graciously served us, we're both awesome! Holly, so talented. Started with the best Brussel sprout app. Crunchy with a hit of maple sweetness and the bacon! Short rib sandwich and THC sandwich were equally tasty. The rib meat was tender and the sandwich was paired well with the toppings. The husband loved the hot chx sandwich, those pickles and slaw! Just really wow! Will head back again soon.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Great place to network and have fun. Wifey loves it, as long as she's happy I'm happy!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Chill place. We didn't get to eat because one person in our party didn't see anything on the menu he wanted. But I thought the sandwiches sounded great! I only tried a light lager-style beer which I think they called a "Tombstone Tecate." It was light, refreshing, with just a touch of sweetness. I'd definitely come back and hang out here (and would try a burger or chicken sandwich next time). The staff were friendly and attentive and just let us hang out and enjoy our beers.
google avatar

Shannah H.

Yelp
Good but not exceptionally memorable local beer. The Winter Ale was quite nice, with a strong hint on cinnamon on the nose. The IPAs are very hazy and pleasant to drink. Flights come in 4, 6 and 12 - you pay by the pour.

Karen E.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Loved the beers! We ordered the nachos and smash burger. They were both delicious! Service was great. We sat at the bar and our server was great! Very cool place, lots of seating.

Yelp
If you're in Phoenix, Arizona you have to check this brewery out. My boyfriend and I are from California but he suggested coming here during our vacation and I'm so glad we did. Everyone that works there is so nice and friendly, the food is delicious, and they have board games which are fun to play while you're drinking. They close somewhat early, 10:00 P.M. on a Saturday, which is a bummer because we were having so much fun. But we understand that the employees want to go home too. We were having so much fun we didn't take any photos. I really enjoyed this place and when we go back to Phoenix this will definitely be a place we go back to.

Yelp
TOMBSTONE Brewery is another local brewery that is consistently providing us with amazing beer. They are originally located only in Tombstone AZ which is 186 south of us, they now have a East Valley location where the old Helton Brewery was. World Class beers and beertenders/brewers/staff that complete the experience with their knowledge. These guys are always pumping out the most relevant strong beers. Great job and welcome to the valley @tombstonenorth @tombstonebeer #ogbrewery #drinklocal #drinkaz #AzCraftBeer #AzBrew #localeats #azgrub #eatlocalaz #localaz #azfoodies #azfood #azfoodblogger #foodinfluencer IG @charlies_culinary_chronicals

Yelp
Came here for dinner and when we walked in at 755 we were informed the kitchen closes at 8. We literally got menus and chose immediately. Order was placed right at 8. The guy was really nice but what annoyed us was when we ordered our burger/sandwich he asked do you want the fries or salad, this seemed to imply the side was included but when the bill came we saw it was a $3 charge each for the fries. Neither of us would have ordered fries. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. If so.ething is not included or going to cost me more you need to say would you like to add fries or a salted to that or sure I can bring you extra salsa but it's going to be extra. Usually I'd complain but this time, I just let it go but it really is deceiving, especially since he knew we had no time to review the menu to know if the side was included or not. Also they should make it known the kitchen closes early as we would not have gone here to eat at pretty much 8 if we had known the kitchen closed at 8, they close at 10p the night I went. The food was good. I got the tombstone burger and my mom got the short rib sandwich, I enjoyed my burger but if I came back I'd get the short rib sandwich, it was amazing.

Yelp
After hiking the Challo trail we love to go grab a beer. The Tombstone IPA was my husbands fav. I wanted something lighter and the bar tender was great. He brought me out 3 different small glasses to try. I can't remember the name but it was a light beer. He even served to me in a wine glass. Super cute. We all had a burger and wow were they great. I love blue cheese and to have melted on a burger with bacon was fabulous combo! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
Super fun brewery that is off the strip a bit. Never heard of it before but I was glad that I stopped for an art class. The place is huge and it is super fun that they have games to play while you wait. The pretzels are bigger than your head and I think I could drink the sours all day!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Great food beer is good but the food is mo better. Had the Burger with blue cheese wonderful a side salad comes with and it's great too.
google avatar

Yelp
Bomb-ass-food If you're heading to the AZ-202 or the airport hit this place up on the way out. Fast service, kind hospitality, delicious fresh artizan grubbage...fine details like bearded bro hustled out of the kitchen with fancy linen draped over his arm just to fulfill my desire for fresh cracked peppercorns...QUALITY

Matt V.

Yelp
As we all know, the Beers are stellar. Today I had the Italian Grinder. Wow! It was that good. The Bun was soft but not overwhelming, the Aioli was tart and added a great accompaniment to the Meats. Must try.

Rhonda A.

Yelp
Food blew our mind! Doesn't look like much from the outside but wow, the food, the beer. Stephanie was our server and she couldn't have done anything more to get a 5 start rating. She had great recommendations and they didn't disappoint. Totally underrated brewery. We are from Canada and have have been to many amazing breweries!! A must visit!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Had a great time grabbing lunch here. The beer hit the spot and was exactly what I needed and the food was so fantastic. That chicken sandwich had just the right amount of spice and flavor. And beer with the rain is really great in Phoenix
google avatar

Ray O.

Yelp
What a great place...thought it was going to be run down because where it is located, but never judge a book by its cover. Nicely decorated, great selection of beer and the food was good..... our bartender/waiter was very attentive and knows his beer. I almost forgot, the bathrooms were very interesting
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
Stopped in and not terribly impressed. The female bartender wasn't very attentive when we needed a drink. The manager was too busy talking to the single women there. Tuna burger would be amazing except for the saltiness in certain parts of the burger. There are so many better options like O.H.S.O and Four Peaks. Also the English Barlywine was too sweet for the style. I always try to support microbreweries however when I run into one that is subpar its hard to not let people know
google avatar

Angie B.

Yelp
Great place. Amazing service. Kristin was amazing. Talk about great customer service!! The food and of course craft beers were great! Definitely recommend
google avatar

Ashleigh F.

Yelp
Tried this place out after hiking in the national park and it was so good! The beer was great but seriously their nachos were some of the best we've ever had (pork). Staff was friendly, would recommend.
google avatar

Jenni H.

Yelp
While we've been fans of their beer all along, Tombstone has really upped their food game! We were a bit disappointed with the original menu initially, but I'm pleased to report the menu is bigger and better now! Long list of delicious starters, high quality salads and long list of burgers. We will definitely be back to check out more options. Happy to have this place back in rotation!

Jihyun K.

Yelp
Tombstone IPA was great! Foods were decent, four of us ordered 5 menus, including Nacho, Brussels sprouts, Tombstone burger, chicken club sandwich, and mac and cheese. Foods came so slow, though. Maybe because of a trivia night on Tuesday?
google avatar

Susan A.

Yelp
Their food is better than their beer. For a brewery I felt like they had a really small selection of beers. For food we ordered the truffle fries and an order of the nachos with carne asada. Both dishes were really good and I enjoyed it. For beer I ordered a 5 oz of both the Thiccc Coffee Milk Imperial Stout and Oatmeal Stout With Cacao. They are Stouts so they are very dark beers. I didn't enjoy it very much. I typically enjoy flavored beers so I wish they had a better variety and bigger selection. Service also wasn't very good. It was extremely slow and at the end we had to go to the bar just to get the waiter to bring us our check. They are pretty far from me so I probably won't be back.
google avatar

Armando O.

Yelp
Calling all beer drinkers, this place had a great selection of beers including some good IPAs and Sours. If looking for a Miller Lite or Bud Light this isn't the place for you. Food was delicious, wings where definitely spicy (ordered hot), pretzel was fresh and delicious with beer cheese. Service was good, place was slow for a Saturday afternoon but great seating with open garage doors.
google avatar

Kristin F.

Yelp
5 Star food - it's delicious. Great pricing. Staff is friendly. They have a shuffle board and few other games to play. A few TVs around to watch games. It has a very industrial feel. There is typically shipments of grain piled up towards the back near where they actually brew. They keep the garage doors open which provides a good indoor/outdoor feeling but there isn't any outdoor seating. They do have a lot of beers to select from but many are IPAs or heavier.
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
Delicious beer and food, great service. Extremely COVID friendly atmosphere with a lot of space, clean and casual, family friendly. Highly recommend supporting this local business. Our favorite food from today was the beer cheese- we dipped everything in it. You can't go wrong.
google avatar

Allen F.

Yelp
The ambiance isn't as a bar or club, it's a brewery with a bar and some tables inside. Feels a little disjointed inside. The service was friendly, the beer was good and the burger and fries, unexpectedly great. Would go back again
