Yelp
I really try very hard to NOT give completely negative reviews, however, if the hotel really deserves it--there's no other option. I've stayed in a vast number of Hyatt properties over the years. I have to be very honest with this review to say this was the worst experience I have had to date. The reason for this cynical review is the lack of sound proofing in the rooms. My 3 night stay started well, with an upgrade to small suite on the top floor. The room was very nice and spacious with trendy furniture and very comfortable. I walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner and was in bed early after a long travel day. I woke up just after midnight to the sound of the neighbors on the other side of the wall at the head of my bed having a very passionate evening. At first, I just put the pillow over my head thinking it would be over soon. As they continued, it got louder and louder with one partner becoming more and more vocal. I finally banged on the wall and yelled "knock it off". That quieted them down for perhaps 30 seconds and then they just ignored me. I got up and got ear plugs, but clearly she was enjoying herself so much, nothing was going to stop her screams. It was very disturbing. This went on for much too long and clearly I was very displeased in the morning. I went to the front desk to inquire if the guests in the next room would be there another night, because if yes, I needed to change rooms. I was told they would be checking out, so I was looking forward to a very restful sleep that night. I went to the lobby dining area and had a quick breakfast before heading out to my project site.
Although the guests next door checked out, and that night was relatively quiet. Then, Wednesday was my final night at Tommie Hollywood that earned this hotel a single star! I awoke again around 11:30pm to the sound of very loud footsteps at the bar above my room, "Desert 5 Spot". I thought at that moment, this room really is a nightmare. The bar is closed on Monday and I guess not much happening on Tuesday, but Wednesday night things really picked up. I believe they had a live band or perhaps just loud music. I had to listen to very loud clomping of shoes for about 2 hours until the bar closed. There appeared to be one waitress or waiter with very loud footsteps that was directly about the bed. It was such an uncomfortable situation and I just grew more and more uncomfortable and angry. Even using earplugs again was useless. This had to be a KNOWN issue for the hotel. No one could have slept thru that noise and yet nothing was done to mitigate the noise. I've let the months pass since I stayed here in mid-January, because I thought letting time go by would help to balance my opinion of this hotel stay. However, I'd never stay there again and would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm at the top level of the Hyatt's reward program and after my stay they asked for my opinion of the stay. I responded with a long very detailed summary of my stay and my dissatisfaction. I never heard from Hyatt. I'm assuming they know these issues and have done nothing to install insulation or sound masking to help with this disturbing noise issue. Clearly, when this hotel was built they cut costs and provided little to no insulation to mask any noise transfer. I don't know what the rooms on the other floors were like, but if they offer you a top floor room, especially room 819, refuse that offer!
The hotel has lots of potential in a great neighborhood with a great view of the "Hollywood" sign in the distance, but as far as a comfortable sleep--it's the worst I have ever experienced! Lesson has been learned and next time, I'll read the reviews before staying at a new hotel!
