Best Bagels in New York City, According to Eater Editors | Eater NY

"Bagel purists may not like this place in the East Village, with its rainbow of cream cheese options, but it has a devoted following at this and its two other Manhattan locations for a reason: a massive variety of menu items that’ll satisfy any appetite. Expect to find the latest food fads executed in bagel form." - Robert Sietsema

Tyler Cameron's Favorite NYC Restaurants - New York - The Infatuation

"“I always try to make an effort to stop by and buy a bagel whenever I'm around. I’d never been a big salmon and cream cheese person until I went to this place and someone ate it and told me, ‘Dude, you gotta try it just once.’ So I did. They do the salmon pastrami-style and man, it's amazing. I think about that bagel a lot when I'm in Florida.”" - brennan carley

The 20 Best Bagels In New York City, Ranked

"At this East Village spot (with three locations), chances are you’re getting a sandwich. And you’re on the right track—these springy, air pocket-laden, kettle-boiled bagels are ideal for toppings, which is why this is one of the few places on this list where we recommend ordering a BEC. Cream cheese purists, avert your eyes, because the chocolate chip cookie and chipotle avocado options might upset you. Even if you lean traditional though, their straightforward bagels and sandwiches are reason enough to line up here in the morning." - bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah

The Best Breakfast Sandwiches In NYC

"Bacon, Egg, & Cheese On An Everything Bagel Bagel breakfast sandwiches usually let you down, often by way of excessive slippage and overpowering doughy bites without much egg. So it’s all the more impressive that Tompkins Square Bagels in the East Village constructs the perfect BEC on an everything bagel using nothing but the sheer power of american cheese glue. The thick layer of egg and cheese is about the same width as the bagel slices themselves, meaning you’ll taste every element of the sandwich. Fresh bagels normally shouldn’t be toasted, but in this case, the toasted bagel makes the bread hold up better against the delicious mess of well-scrambled eggs and crispy bacon." - willa moore, neha talreja, carlo mantuano, carina finn koeppicus

Some of NYC’s Best Dining Is on this Bus Route | Eater NY

"This hipster bagel spot can be wildly popular around brunch time, but it’s worth standing in line for its bagels and bagel sandwiches — which can be conventional, or totally innovative and screwy. Pick a bagel flavor you like — say cinnamon raisin, plain, or everything bagel — then match it with one of the flavored cream cheeses. Take your treat to nearby Tompkins Square Park, the throbbing heart of the East Village, and sit by the Temperance Arch or the General Slocum Memorial." - Robert Sietsema

We went to Tompkins Square Bagel at Union Square for breakfast. When we entered, we first ordered the bagels. There are more expensive ones, but we just chose a bagel and one spread for around 6 dollars. Because of the big variety of bagels and spreads, I asked the staff for a recommendation. He recommended an Everything Bagel (one with sesame and other seeds) and cream cheese with bacon and scallions. I also ordered an Americano coffee for around 5 dollars. The bagels were warmed and freshly prepared with the spread. There are tables and a counter where you can eat standing. The interior of the shop is really nice with brick-walls and wooden furniture. The bagels are big, with a generous amount of cream cheese. The warm bagel with the flavorful filling was a sensation for the tastbuds! The bagel tasted slightly salty, and together with the roasted sesame seeds, it was a perfect match for the creamy filling. And it was also quite filling. I am sure I will go there for more bagels.

Google
Nice and cozy bagel shop. The line was short when we walked in the door but led to the door within minutes. We didn't have a big order so we got our order within a few minutes. I tried the Koch this time on an everything egg bagel and it was pretty delicious. I would definitely come back again. The Grieve is probably my favorite.

Google
We went to this place around noon, and it was hopping. First off the food was as advertised. The bagels are moist and the schmear hits the mark. The service is very fast. The bagels are made so quickly, which is great. As for atmosphere, I gave it 4 stars because the staff could have been friendlier. As out first time there, the person taking out order seemed a little "bothered". Also, it was unclear how the line for ordering worked and the staff was a but terse in their directions.

Google
Quite good, the lox bagel was good but one of the bagels was harder than the other which made it hard to bite. However, I didn’t get their special rainbow bagel so i can’t speak on that. It was still good though but i will say it was pretty basic. But a bagel can only get so good, so im not coming for them

Google
A good option for bagels! They have a wide selection of bagels and cream cheeses to choose from, as well as many house specials. I really liked their pastrami lox on an everything bagel with cream cheese, although it is a quite pricy sandwich.

Google
Excellent bagels, especially the pizza one. I loved it and would come back again. The line moves really quickly, and there is a person helping in taking orders.

Google
Jalapeño cheddar everything bagel with sun roasted tomato tofu cream cheese. This may not be everyone’s perfect bagel, but gosh darn did it hit the spot with a perfect mixture of flavors. This spot had a decent number of tofu cream cheeses and all the bagel types you could want with the ideal no nonsense ambience. Highly recommend!

Google
Got a breakfast sandwich for lunch bc why not I craving eggs with cheese. Tried the Triple King which was one STACKED bagel. It was as tall as it was wide like this is the thickest bagel ive ever had that was wild. There was a lot of meat which was nice and it didn’t detract from the eggs and cheese. Also the cream cheese was divine especially on the pumpernickel. The maple glaze was amazing but very messy - thats the price you pay for something so good though! It came out warm and the warmth lasted a bit of a walk before I ate it so i’m happy about that!

Yelp
A super fun modern take on bagels. The bagel I had was fresh and beautiful. Went generic to test the staple but their everything bagel was great and crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside. The scallion spread was good too with a decent amount of onion flavor in it. I'd skip their coffee it was a pretty bland and had a wet paper bag type flavor to it. I'm definitely coming back to try their overwhelmingly large selection of spreads and bagel combinations. Staff was friendly and efficient nothing to complain about. The bagel came out fast and couldn't have been more than 5 minutes in and out.

Yelp
They had lots of cool bagel flavors but unfortunately I didn't see until I already ordered. They had egg everything, jalapeno, french toast, etc. and ofc course lots of cream cheese flavors as well. I got the Koch bagel with egg pastrami and cream cheese, tasted very good and was filling! Overall pretty solid place. The reason I give 3 stars is that we saw a rat that ran along the edges :( it was rainy that day so it was probably looking for shelter

Yelp
Great variety of bagels and cream cheeses. I got the Lox, BEC, Pizza, and Kaitlyn. Id rec Lox and BEC! Get an everything bagel, dilll & cucumber cream cheese! Pizza bagel was soggy and not good

Sandra S.

Yelp
Cute bagel shop with delicious bagels and huge variety of bagels, cream cheese, and smoked salmon! They also had specialty sandwiches on the menu as well as a pastry case. Decent amount of seating available as well! Service was fast, and the shop itself was spacious enough to get around!

Yelp
3.5 for the taste I visited mid-morning on a weekday on my day off and it was quite busy! I wondered what everyone was doing with time to wait on a long line, so I wanted to check it out. I asked for a rec and was told the Weezer sandwich was quite popular (eggs, cheddar cheese, chorizo, and cream cheese - I picked Scallion cream cheese). I think the mix of these flavors was not for me, though I like each ingredient on its own. I do not think I would come back or go out of my way to order from this place.

Yelp
From the everything bagels with scallion cream cheese to the blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese (yes, I stole a few bites from my little niece) the bagels here hit the spot. My family was visiting from out of town, so of course a bagel lunch was in order! Around 2ish on a Wednesday there was very little line and we were even able to snag a high top table. They had like 20 bagel options and even more cream cheeses. Very savory to very sweet and everything in between. And who doesn't love a good a cooky, wacky out there bagel like blueberry with maple walnut cream cheese? Maybe a true New Yorker? I don't know, I am from Jersey. They have actual sandwiches as well that all looked amazing, delicious coffees and lattes and a case of pastries. And the staff was so kind and patient as we navigated an order for one child and several adults and their very first NYC bagel. As for seating, they have only a few tables, a couple more seats along the wall and that's about it. But the space is very cool with lots of art for sale on the walls and other goodies like honeys and jams. If you haven't had a TSB visit yet, I highly recommend.

Yelp
5 stars coming your way Tompkins! The hubby and I went here on the morning of 5/25/2024. The line was as expected, a bit long, but everything was well organized and we got our food/stood in line for no more than 30 minutes. We got a turkey bacon, egg and cheese bagel, it was an everything bagel and we added grape jelly. It was so freaking good! The bagel was hot, fluffy and flavorful, everything was super fresh, seasoned well and frankly I was mad that we just ordered one bagel to split, I definitely wanted my own and so did my husband who is not a big bagel person! Worth the hype? Yes!
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars! Omg these bagels and the cream cheese are something else! They had ample amount of bagels and variety of cream cheese! Tip: you have to order all the way in the back of the store, then go to the cash register with your receipt and pay there. You can order online if you're in a rush, if you order in person expect about a 5-10 min wait as it is always pretty busy For my lactose intolerant or vegan peeps- they had many different vegan cream cheese! The vegan cream cheeses there are: Plain, veggie, scallions/green onions, sun dried tomatoes, strawberry, and garlic herb! The dairy cream cheeses included: Plain, Apple, Cinnamon, Birthday cake, Cookie Dough, Walnut Raisin, Veggie, Scallions/green onions, Expresso, Blueberry, Strawberry, Pumpkin, Almond, Cucumber Dill, Fresh Bacon, Triple Berry, Horseradish, Wasabi, Olive Oil, Southwest Please like if you found this helpful! 10/10 place!

Yelp
Tompkins Square seems to be one of the more highly rated popular bagel spots, so when I came back to New York I wanted to give it a try. We got them to go and didn't eat them for around 20-30 minutes or so after which may have affected the texture/flavor a tad, but I really don't think it should have made that significant of a difference. I got an onion bagel with salmon salad, which was really really good! The onion bagel had nice small crispy onion bits, while the salmon salad was flavorful and creamy without feeling too heavy either. The bagel texture wasn't quite as chewy as my absolute favorite bagel spot in the city, but was still pretty good and much better than most places. The size of the bagels was also quite large and they were generous with the filling. I did enjoy it still, and would probably rank it in the slight upper tier of bagel spots I've tried in NY.

Yelp
There was a bit of line when I visited around 11am but the line moved quickly. The ordering lady was very prompt and the cashier was very friendly (she gave my kid a cookie). The service was pretty quick and I got my bagel not long after I paid. There were small seating area but you have to squeeze with other customers. - Lox with lemon dill cream cheese on everything bagel: The bagel was perfectly toasted yet still soft and fluffy. The everything topping was plenty and crunchy. The cream cheese was good but the lemon dill flavor was subtle. - Black & white cookie: good cookie - not too sweet.

Yelp
I had read online that Tompkins Square Bagels was one of the best bagel spots in New York, so this was our first food stop after arriving in New York. My friend and I came to this location in the Flatiron district around 1:30 pm on Thursday. There was no one in line to order but plenty of people waiting for their order or eating, so I think we caught the end of the lunch rush. It's a small restaurant, but there are some tables to quickly eat and go. I was completely blown away by their selection of cream cheeses and bagels. I have never seen so many options before, and a lot of them sounded very interesting, like strawberry tofu or cookie dough cream cheese. My friends and I wanted something a bit more substantial, so we each got one of their bagel sandwiches. I had the Leo with lox, caramelized onion, and egg on the rosemary bagel for $15.12, and my friend ordered the MCA with avocado mash, diced tomato, lemon, 2 eggs, and everything seasoning on the jalapeno everything bagel for $15.12. Please note that they charge an extra $1 for their specialty bagels. It took a while for us to get our food because we ordered sandwiches. We saw plenty of folks ordering a simple bagel + cream cheese and they got those almost immediately. My bagel sandwich was okay but not amazing. The bagel was a bit soggy because of the heat from the cooked eggs. Half the sandwich was super bland because it was just the bagel and egg and there was no smoked salmon for flavor, and the other half of the sandwich was a bit too salty because that's where all of the smoked salmon was concentrated. It would've been much better if the salmon had been spread out evenly among the whole sandwich. My friend really enjoyed his bagel sandwich, which was essentially two open faced bagels, but it was quite messy to eat. He needed to get a fork for all of the diced tomatoes because they were falling off like crazy. Also, he said he couldn't taste the jalapeno at all and that it tasted like a regular everything bagel.

Yelp
Waited in a long line to try Tompkins bagels for the first time this rainy morning. Though it looked a bit daunting, the line moved quickly and orders were taken down the line so you only had to pay at the register. These bagels are slightly too cakey for me personally, but the flavor is good and it definitely hit the spot today. There's a bit less schmear than other bagel spots also, which isn't necessarily bad! I hate throwing out extra cream cheese. A good option if you're in need of a bagel in the union square area.
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
Super friendly staff will do their best to explain all the options. I like that you can get 2 halves with different flavors but the portion is much larger than just getting a single bagel. Worth the break from your diet!!
google avatar

Yelp
~ The Weezer $12.5 ~ Rating: 5/5 Omg this was finger licking good, if you can only get 1 bagel, get this!!! The bagel is sandwiched with thick cut chorizo, bacon, egg, cheddar cheese and cream cheese of your choice (we picked bacon scallion), this flavour combination is phenomenal! My friend find it to be too salty when paired with everything bagel, I think it's alright though! ~Lox Bagel $15.5 Rating: 4.5/5 I really like their ratios! Bagel is sandwiched with generous amount of lox, onion, capers, tomatoes and cream cheese (tofu scallion in this case), it's delicious and fulfilling 最經典的貝果!煙三文魚跟酸甜的番茄,洋蔥,奶油乳酪就是又搭又好吃! - - - - - - - - - - Will I be back? Yes! Bagels are chewy and fillings are really generous and delicious! There are a large selection of cream cheese, will want to come back and try other flavour combinations

Yelp
As a visitor to NYC I really made it a point to get a bagel! I eat bagels pretty frequently at home and really wondered what difference a NYC bagel makes. Short answer is, as my friend says, a bagel is a bagel lol. There is only so much you can do with a bagel. I heard the water makes a difference to the bread. Can't say I notice anything super different! I got the pumpernickel bagel with bacon and green onions. The bacon and green onions were very subtle. In hindsight I think I went with a boring, safe option and wished I tried out some other ones (like birthday cake, oreo, fig and honey). There was a line so by the time I got to the front I realized there were more flavors, at which point my order was already being made. That being said, the cream cheese felt light and fresh, which I liked!
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Great bagels! Staff are very friendly. I love the large font on menus and clear signage and labels. The morning rush can get busy. I would return but at a less-busy time. When you are on vacation in NYC, you don't need the unfriendly locals (specially to this area. IYKYK) waiting behind you tapping on the counter to hurry you.
google avatar

Yelp
The sheer selection of choices at Tompkins Square Bagels is unbeatable! There is always a new bagel or spread to try. When I visited, the line was all the way out the door. However, the employees were incredibly efficient and moved the line along quickly. I found myself amazed at the piles of cream cheese flavors and bagels to choose from. I ended up getting a bagel with Scottish double smoked salmon and cucumber dill cream cheese. I really appreciate the thick spread of cream cheese - each bite had a generous heaping. The smoked salmon had a perfect flavor and paired well with the fluffy cream cheese. I also got a sweet bagel: chocolate chip cookie dough cream cheese on a French toast bagel. I loved the cookie dough cream cheese. It tasted like actual cookie dough, and there was a huge spread on the bagel. Both bagels were phenomenal, doughy and chewy. The inside was bustling, but there were some standing tables to eat at. I could not stop talking about these bagels, and I'm excited to visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
I checked out this Tompkins Square Bagels location twice in two weeks. The first time, I got the Triple Crown on an everything bagel and was impressed. The second time, I got an everything bagel with smoked salmon, regular cream cheese, and tomatoes, and was blown away. The Triple Crown comprises Canadian bacon, apple smoked bacon, scallion cream cheese, spiced honey maple glaze, egg, and cheese. The honey maple adds some sweet pizzazz to what is otherwise essentially an elevated BEC. If I was going to be picky-- and I guess I am - I'd say that there was barely any cream cheese or honey added, and the bagel tasted a little underwhelming. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten it toasted. The salmon bagel was extremely delicious - no notes. Both the salmon and the tomato were maybe the freshest I've ever had on a bagel. It came with a giant schmear of cream cheese. I asked for a non-toasted bagel this time and it was nice and chewy with lots of 'everything' bits, though this is not quite the best bagel in town, IMO. I would 1000% come back for this, along with their iced coffee, which was nice and rich. Consider coming a bit later in the day to avoid the lines. We came around 2 and were able to order almost immediately.

Mandy P.

Yelp
Came here for bagels around 12am on a Sunday and waited about 20 minutes. Lox was good and not fishy, the toasted bagel was a bit hard and squished all the fillings out. Bacon egg and cheese on sourdough was good. The sourdough was nice and pillowy. We also got the jalapeño everything and cinnamon raisin to go with some cream cheese. Both were good.
google avatar

Teresa C.

Yelp
Service was fast. The everything bagel with lox cream cheese was delicious. Had the bagel toasted per usual. The best out of the 3 bagels I tried. The other ones I have were: Egg roll with tofu sundried tomatoes. The tofu texture was interesting but I did like the sundried tomato flavoring. Also has the blueberry bagel with triple berry cream cheese. It was good but it felt like I was eating berry cake but bagel version.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite choice for bagels when in the city. The bagels are exactly what you want, a shiny, crackly crust with a dense and chewy crumb, and a balanced flavor. They have every single kind of bagel under the sun, and all the choices of cream cheese to go with it. This time, we popped in on my daughter's 7th birthday and when the owner found out, he gave us our breakfast for free, so kind. My daughter felt like a princess eating her rainbow bagel with birthday cream cheese, it was the perfect start to her special day. Cant wait to return on our next trip to the city!
google avatar

Yelp
Literally went two days in a row. Endless options and amazing iced vanilla latte. I tried the French toast bagel with espresso cream cheese and it was a stellar combination (especially if you have a sweet tooth)! Nice to enjoy in Union Park.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Great NYC bagel! What you would expect from any great bagel spot. My only issue is I wish they had more side options. The bagels were big and fresh. The different spreads were a nice choice, could be a little too much but I'd stick to the basics.
google avatar

Alexa M.

Yelp
Yes. Come here. The line moves fairly quick! Never had a jalapeño everything bagel and I fear I am now addicted. Whenever I'm back in New-York I will make sure to come here!
google avatar

Samir K.

Yelp
Packed place, but line moved fast. Lox bagel was delicious, lots of cream cheese and salmon, worked well together. Bagel was super fresh no toast needed. Blueberry bagel was also light. Sun dried tomato cream cheese was nice contrast.
google avatar

Sarai A.

Yelp
You can't not get a bagel while you're in NYC! So many wonderful spreads to choose from and unique bagel flavors. Speedy service and simple ambiance. I got a jalapeño everything bagel breakfast sandwich, it was tasty! Bummed it didn't come with any spread, overall very delicious.
google avatar

Sadia H.

Yelp
The open sesame. This bagel shop is always crowded. Be prepared for a long line. Their bagels are handrolled & delicious! They don't skimp on the filling. They have tons of vegan options. I'm definitely coming back! Happy Yelping!

Leo B.

Yelp
C'mon Tompkins, a $5-$6 per bagel and both were lacking on the cream cheese. You need to do better. I will need to go elsewhere.
google avatar

Esther M.

Yelp
This place was super crowded but the line went by quick. There's a wide assortment of bagels, cream cheese, and toppings. Bagels are hot and toasty when they come out and they load it with cream cheese. The workers are fast paced and helpful if you ask questions. I got the bagel with lox, red onion, and capers. This bagel is very filling so I'd honestly recommend splitting it in half so you still have stomach to try all the other foods in New York. There's plenty of standing tables if you want to "dine in".
google avatar

Anjana S.

Yelp
Tompkin's Square bagels in union square has long been on my to-go list, and I finally went to check out what all the fuss was about. When I walked in I immediately fell in love with the place - it was a Saturday morning and the shop was filled with lively chatter, tons of excited customers, and that beautiful new york summer energy that thrives on weekend mornings. I loved that you could see all the bagels laid out, the omelets being made, and everyone working hard behind the scenes. The long line went by very quickly, and I ordered my usual - a sesame bagel toasted with egg and veggie cream cheese. While the bagel was very soft and delicious, I would have liked some more flavor - next time will make sure to ask for salt and pepper. It was a great way to start the morning. Next time I want to try one of their specialty bagels (maybe the rainbow bagel??) and one of their insane cream cheese flavors (espresso cream cheese?!)
google avatar

Yelp
wowowow this bagel was busting with cream cheese i ascended while eating it. walked through nyc eating this bagel it was so good. workers are also friendly and seem quite funny. the vibe is nice but nothing to write about.
google avatar

Clara C.

Yelp
A local gem. They have multiple locations. I just happened to be near this one. To order, go toward the back of the store. Then pay at the register by the baked goods display. You can sit inside. They have a few high top tables. I highly recommend the lox bagel - and share this with someone. It's like a $15 bagel sandwich, but it's so delicious and fresh. Avoid the Lupi. (It wasn't disgusting. It's just that the lox was so much better.) I wanted the spinach bagel, but they were out. They didn't tell me when they would have it again. I'll have to come back I guess. I thought everyone cuts the roof of their mouth after eating rough bread, like bagels or banh mi. This sure did happen to me here.
google avatar

Nikhil M.

Yelp
This place is a classic in NYC and a must visit for anybody checking out the city! They have a large variety of sweet and savory bagels with some interesting flavors of cream cheese. There is almost always a line so come prepared but it moves pretty fast. They also have a couple vegan bagels and vegan spreads which are absolutely delicious as well! Sometimes they take your order in line so be sure to go prepared!
google avatar

Kareem A.

Yelp
This a dope bagel spot in NYC. They have so many options and so many spreads. Even with a line, things move fast and everything seemed fresh. A great go-to bagel spot! The inside felt spacious and industrial. Bonus points for being next to Union Square, which is a great neighborhood.

Alexandra B.

Yelp
My order: GF pastrami lox bagel w egg w sundried tofu cream cheeseeeee The cream cheese was sooo good and the pastrami lox I will be dreaming about! The GF bagel was really good, but so expensive (+$3)
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Everything looks so good and sounds so good here but I was disappointed! I got the salmon and white fish bagels with capers, onion, tomato, and I really felt like the flavors were off. I was also expecting actual lox not salmon salad so I guess that was my bad for not understanding the menu item. The bagel didn't have any flavor, needed salt. And I also got an egg bagel with butter and it had almost no butter on it!!! I was so confused, I just wanted a good, cold bagel with butter. And there was literally not a single lump of butter. Just the thinnest veil of butter as if someone buttered someone else's bagel and then picked up that knife again to smear it on mine without scooping more from the container. Terrible! This location gets a long line for lunch but they move it so fast, so that's good. I also got a lemon poppy seed muffin which was delicious and moist. I would go back one more time to reevaluate, because the place seemed clean, they have indoor seating, and they get you your food quickly.
google avatar

Maria J.

Yelp
So good! Got hash brown in my bagel and was amazing. Went twice and got it twice, once with créame cheese once without and preferred without. Location was nice, sat at the park and had tables. Leaves you so full. Don't even need to eat until night time. Can't wait to return. Line looks long but it goes by super fast. Don't let it make you turn around.

Yelp
I have some friends who stand by TSB, so I was super excited to finally be close enough to one to try it out. I was walking from somewhere else nearby so I decided to place an online order in hopes that it would be ready when I arrived. The store itself is organized so that you order in the back and then pick up your order in the front. There was a huge sign that said 'Order Here' at the back, and because they were calling out orders in the front, I stayed in the front and awaited my name. The email I received said my order would be done at around 12:33pm, after placing my order at 12:17pm. I got there a bit early so I figured I'd wait until the estimated time before bugging them. 12:33pm came and went, so I asked one of the employees about my order, and they said online order pickup is in the back. So I figured my order was probably just sitting there waiting for me to pick up. Unfortunately my order was not ready, and my order ended up not being ready until 12:50pm. 30 minutes is just an insane amount of time to be waiting for my order, which only consisted of two bagels. Generally speaking, they weren't too busy-- they were able to keep the crowd small and kept what looked like groups of students flowing in and out. There were a bunch of people who ordered and received their bagels much quicker than I did just by ordering in person. All that said, I didn't make a huge fuss about waiting, so what I did appreciate was that TSB noticed that I had waited a long time and came over to offer me 2 free black and white cookies for the time spent. From what I could tell, everyone working there was very kind and didn't have any of the classic NYC annoyance you might find in other bagel stores. OKAY now for the bagel-- I ordered a ham, egg, and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel. I was super happy with how generous they were with both the egg and ham. Plus the cheese was overflowing as you can see. However, I wished for a fluffier bagel-- you can see that this one is on the flatter side. I also found the ham to be too salty for my tastes, which isn't usual for me when I've ordered this exact thing at other bagel places. In conclusion, I'd definitely recommend ordering in person since that seems to be more reliable. I'm grateful for the customer service, but am unsure if I'd come back for this bagel.

Yelp
5 stars just for the bagels (sans sandwich). Tried a number of different bagel spots during my visit to NYC, and Tompkin's might be my new favorite bagel spot (unseating one of my previous favorites). The whole wheat bagel itself was excellent - not too crusty with a good chew and that slight sweetness you get from a whole wheat bagel. I didn't actually like my bagel sandwich itself - the Leo had too much egg and the egg itself was a bit dry. I also didn't realize the lox would be a more flaky almost cooked kind, and the onions were more just cooked than actually caramelized. Would opt to try one of the many other combinations instead, or keep it simple with just a bagel and cream cheese.

Yelp
This was the most recommended bagel spot to me in NYC so of course I had to come get one! It did not disappoint. I got the Weezer with scallion cream cheese and an onion bagel and it was bomb. Chorizo was delicious. My friend got the bagel with the braised pork and wow talk about the flavors. My only complaint was that the cream cheese wasn't really distributed evenly so I only had bites of it in the front of my sandwich and it was also spilling out. Nevertheless this spot was a hit for someone who doesn't really love bagels. This is the place if you want a good savory bagel!

Yelp
The egg everything bagel with chive and bacon cream cheese was excellent. Ordering process was quick and efficient. Place was clean. Nice selection of bagels and spreads.

Yelp
Wow. This place is amazing. I've been to a fair share of bagel chains in the city, but Tompkins knocks it out of the park. We came on a Thursday morning, and the line wasn't bad at all. They make the bagels really fast too. I love how gorgeous their cream cheese looks because I wanted to order every flavor. They also have a huge variety of toppings and bagels. The cashier laughed when he saw my order because it's one of the strangest he's ever come across--blueberry bagel, strawberry cream cheese, eggs, and bacon. The bagel was delicious despite how weird the combination sounds. The eggs were perfectly fluffy, and the strawberry cream cheese was delicious. I have to recommend you try their french toast bagel with apple cream cheese. I'm going to dream about this bagel forever. I love French toast to begin with, and I also love apples. This was seriously a match made in Heaven, and I've never even come across a French toast bagel before. I like how Tompkins lets you try different cream cheeses out before you commit to one. Their drinks also look really good, so maybe try a latte! Their workers are incredibly kind and patient, and they brightened my morning. I'm not normally a huge bagel person, but Tompkins might've converted me.

Yelp
We wanted to try 'ey York style bagels and this place did not disappoint. The bagels were warm and chewy. My friend has a plain bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. I had a sourdough bagel with home made blueberry cream cheese. Both were filling and delicious!

Yelp
DE-LI-CIOUS. Absolutely worth the hype. Every ingredient / component was hitting. Also, the service was super good. It was my first time going, so one of the employees volunteered to explain the menu and give recommendations. I appreciated her patience and kindness!

Yelp
The hustle and bustle of NYC can be overwhelming and scary. Coming into Tompkins was exciting, but everyone knew the ins and out of this place. My husband and I were newbies and the staff here were sooo helpful! We had a few questions about the different types of lox and the staff was patient and answered all our questions. Plus, I wanted to try a few of the cream cheeses and they were more than willing! We ordered two everything bagels with lox. My husband got the nova lox with avocado and tomato and I got the pastrami nova with cucumber dill cream cheese and avocado. OMG!!! Sooo good! You have the option to get your bagel toasted too. That's what we opted for! Additionally, we ordered two ice lattes. The coffee was super yummy too! Highly recommend this NYC local bagel place!

Yelp
Heard great things about this place and was excited to try! When we got here, there was a long line, but it moved fairly quickly. Perhaps the most memorable thing about this place is the variety of unique and creative sandwich fillings they offer. We ordered the El Chapo on jalapeno (from their specials board), and the Leo on sourdough. I felt that the pricing for their items was reasonable for the size and quality. I was surprised when the jalapeno bagel was bright green, and not just a normal looking bagel with jalapenos mixed in. I would've preferred the latter; it just looked green and you couldn't really taste jalapeno. The texture and softness was excellent though, and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and tenderness of the pork filling. I don't think any other bagel spot offers this kind of filling! The sourdough bagel also had great texture and the right amount of sourness. The egg was nice and fluffy, though I do which there was more lox on my bagel. Overall, solid experience, would come back to try more of their bagels!

Yelp
This place gets a solid 3 stars because I ordered a GF and vegan bagel- not only was it expensive, ambiance was mediocre and bagel was very mediocre. I was a bit disappointed and will try a vegan and GF bagel elsewhere- not easy to find!!!

Yelp
I've tried a bunch of bagel places (here for work somewhat often) and this was my fav so far. The bagels are fresh and chewy without being overwhelmingly dense. Also interesting and varied spreads, and the eggs in your BEC won't give you the ick! I ordered the BEC on toasted jalapeño everything (seasonal flavor) and an untoasted sesame bagel with tofu spinach and artichoke cream cheese. Delicious and would recommend to anyone!
