Enduring diner dishing up breakfast & lunch classics in an old-fashioned atmosphere.
"Another diner with the autumnal romcom vibes you thought only existed in movies. There are shiny red booths, ceramic mugs brimming with hot coffee, and the best pancakes in the world. Banana walnut, cinnamon roll, chocolate chip: Tom’s has an endless pancake menu for you to choose from. And if you're twisted like me, they also have a gorgeous French toast. Walk through Prospect Park afterwards to go full "Lady in a Movie" mode." - cat cohen
"This Prospect Heights institution debuted in 1936 and is still run by the same Greek-American family that opened it. The diner sometimes hands out free coffee and cookies if there’s a wait, and there’s a signed photo from Suzanne Vega, even though her song "Tom's Diner" wasn't technically about this location. But that doesn't mean people think it's any less special." - Eater Staff
"They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s also the one meal we could easily eat all day, everyday. Especially if it were at Tom’s. Established circa 1936, this American style eatery effortlessly captures nostalgia in a way that’s not your everyday kitsch. In fact, we’d say they kinda nailed it. It’s crowded and fast-paced, with flowing coffee and constant orders — and it’s completely exciting. If you’re not awake when you walk in, you will be in minutes. It’s practically a breakfast adventure and a uniquely memorable way to start your morning. Make sure to try their Blueberry Pancakes, Pumpkin-Walnut Waffle, or their World’s Best Crab Cakes. And while you’re at it, if you’ve never had an egg cream, you can try the Brooklyn staple here. There’s always a line so get there early." - Aki Carpenter & Chris Huban
"There are diners you go to when hungover—with readily available tables, and eggs that appear in seconds—but on a Saturday in Prospect Heights, Tom’s Restaurant is not one of them. There's almost always a line: full of people who are just hungover enough to need a stack of pancakes but still capable of dressing to impress someone in the next booth over. Come with a group ready to commit to the wait, and remember that once you manage to secure a booth inside, you'll have food on your table in no time. This is a diner, after all. Order the lemon ricotta pancakes and an exceptional egg cream, then take a nap in Prospect Park. photo credit: Michael Breton photo credit: Michael Breton photo credit: Michael Breton" - Willa Moore
"Tom’s is a no-frills diner that’s been open under different owners since 1936. The menu serves endangered New York classics, like egg creams and breakfast plates for about $10. Breakfast is served all day, and the menu doesn’t have many surprises: It’s just dependable, filling food." - Eater Staff
