Tokyo Thick-Cut Tonkatsu Specialist Tonkatsu Marushichi Opens in Torrance | Eater LA

"From its origins in Tokyo’s Monzen-Nakacho, this thick-cut tonkatsu specialist brings its signature yaki katsudon—crunchy panko-crusted slabs of pork set over egg and rice, reputed by some to be the thickest katsu in Tokyo—to its first U.S. outpost in Torrance. The take-out-only shop offers a streamlined menu with three versions of the signature bowl (a one-pound premium loin, a third-pound deluxe loin, and a half-pound tenderloin), plus a katsu sandwich and katsu curry, with sides like wasabi, spicy mayonnaise, and a signature sauce, and green tea to drink. Known for a pale pink center achieved through longer, low-temperature cooking, the katsu stays tender and moist; seating is limited to a few counter chairs, and hours run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily." - Rebecca Roland

Okay, without a doubt, this is the best tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) you will ever eat - even compared to the best restaurants in Japan. Seriously. The cutlet is soft and juicy, with an amazing taste. The tonkatsu sauce was simply sublime. Even the bread they use for the sandwiches was fluffy and very delicious. Honestly, all their food items were more than delicious. Try their curry as well, as you will taste none better. I don't exaggerate when I say they should be a Michelin starred restaurant. I would even make it a point to drive here from anywhere just to eat their tonkatsu. Yes, it's that good! While they are mainly a take-out style restaurant, it's worth taking the time to eat at their counter while your food is hot. Already, I want to go back!

Google
Very home style restaurant that feels like Oba's kitchen. The food is tasty, clean and comforting. The service is slow, but that's ok. Forces you to relax and enjoy yourself. The meals are filling and yummy. I enjoy this place very much.

Finally stopped by here for to-go when I visited Torrance. I ordered premium katsu and was very impressed by the quality. It is a thick katsu that was perfectly cooked and moist inside. Even though I ate it after the food got cold a bit, food was still very delicious. So far, this is the best Japanese katsu place I can think of in SoCal. The restaurant itself is small and has limited number of seatings. Next time, I want to try eating there so I can eat freshly cooked katsu right away. I honestly think this is a great quality lunch place if you are craving for katsu!

Since it was the second week opening, there was a line out the door to order. And then it took 40+ minutes to get our order. All the meals are made to order so that was cool, but they do seem short staffed in the back. If you’re expecting crispy/flakey tonkatsu, this isn’t quite the place. The to-go nature makes the port cutlet a little soggy by the time we ate it. It tastes really soft and tender, but not the tonkatsu we’re used to. The presentation is exquisite though. The box is very unique and wrapped very nicely.

Google
The food was pretty good. The breading and katsu for the pork ribeye was very good. My issue is that since it comes in a closed box, similar to other experiences here for takeout. The katsu becomes soggy and soft and the steam just softens it. I ate it in standing tables they they had, so I had it fresh. The pork ribeye was super tasty and fatty. The meat was very tender and very great quality. The rice had a bit too much sauce in it but the egg was nice and fluffy! You order thru a touch pad and the food is made to order which guarantees freshness. The staff was super nice and very polite! The decor was very minimalist and there was lemon water available if you're waiting or choosing to eat there standing.

Google
Came on 7/8 which was day 2 of the grand opening. Only the yaki katsudon deluxe and the katsu sando are currently available. The katsu sando had the thick patty as advertised and a pretty strong mustard flavor to give it some dimension. Could have been a bit more tender/pink though. Katsudon is a solid portion of food with a thinner katsu and a fluffy egg omelette. Good flavor, didn’t need any extra sauce, breading could have been a bit crispier. Overall really good, hopefully the full menu will be available soon!

Google
20 out of 10 Worth every penny I spent here. The aesthetic and the environment here is simple and very cute. And the taste is just as well, but blasting with flavor. The meat is not dry at all and super juicy. It looks exactly like the picture does. Overall presentation is extremely extremely well done and makes you feel like you’re in Japan! I would come back here everyday if I could. The pork is fresh and taste ultra premium . The staff is super friendly. Must visit if you are in Torrance

Google
Marushichi tonkatsu prides itself in japan for having the thickest cuts of tonkatsu. If you look at the pictures online then you'll understand right away. Well they finally opened a location in Torrance! This is their grand opening week! Their Yaki tonkatsu deluxe is probably their most popular option. It has a big piece of tonkatsu in it laying on top of a bed if egg and rice. Originally priced at 22 dollars but it is discounted for thie grand opening. It was really good and I highly recommend it! Juicy and fatty on the inside and crispy on the outside!

Yelp
High quality tonkatsu with very good presentation! Food here tastes amazing! Really thick tonkatsu. I ordered the tonkatsu sandwich ($20) with a side of real wasabi ($3.50). The meat was so flavorful and prepared really well. The sandwich came in a small wooden box which is do extra. Comes with wet paper towel to clean your hands before eating the sandwich. Wasabi was really spicy and delicious. Menu is very small and limited. would like to see more menu items. Interior is small but there are seatings inside and outside. plenty of parking. Ordering is through a tablet. I would definitely come back! Good quality, delicious food but a bit pricey.

Yelp
For those unaware, Tonkatsu Marushichi is a very well-known chain in Japan, just search it up and you'll see HUGE cuts of katsu served over rice. This is their first location in the states, and it is a pleasant treat. Fair warning: it's a takeout spot, so you should plan to eat in your car in the parking lot (this is what I did). Specifically because you don't want to wait too long getting home and the food ends up being soggy from being trapped in steam. It is fried food, after all. Anyways - first I have to give a shout out to Happa restaurant in Gardena. They're one of my favorite restaurants in the area and the owner, Kuni, played a major role in bringing the beauty of Marushichi to Torrance. I think if you're visiting, you should go big or go home. By that, I mean you should order the most premium thing on the menu, which is only available in limited quanties. The cut is fattier, juicier, and more elegant. It's served the same way, with rice and a soft omelette. This is what you're here for. The katsu sando is fluffy and juicy as well. However, I personally think it deserves a little crisp by adding shaved cabbage, but to each their own. The katsu curry was good, although I wouldn't order it again for how messy it might be in the car. It's got a rich flavor but it doesn't compare to some other curry I've had, especially from one that has a more complex profile like Red Rock's. The food came out very quickly and the service was excellent. They will answer any question you have and I had no trouble with line anxiety because I came many weeks after the grand opening. Give it a try!

Yelp
Intimate venue with seating for about 6 inside and 6 outside. If a larger group, recommend picking up for takeaway. Trust me! This place is totally worth swinging by for the bento box of tonkatsu goodness. The breading is perfectly crispy without being greasy. The staff are efficient despite their size.

Yelp
Small little shop with two tables outside and some seating inside. It is a self-seating, so there might not be seating available if it's busy. You have to order via kiosk, but there is a worker if you have any questions. There's also a water station for free water inside. I had the premium ($28), which is on the pricier side, but I thought it was worth it. The meat was melting in my mouth! I ate my meal there, so it was fresh. I would say it's probably the best tonkatsu that I've tried so far and would recommend people to try.

Yelp
Okey! So good and I love them. I know it's pricey and I agree but everything is expensive nowadays. You get what you pay for. I got Premium Yaki Katsu don and Katsu Sando. I love Sando better than Premium. The meat was so tender although I ate them few hours later than I bought. The guy at store was nice and explained where they located in Japan and I've never visited but one was close to my home. I will go there when I go back to Japan next time. It's easy to order at Kiosk and staffs are there in the kitchen so you can ask questions if you need. It's not like I can afford every week but I would go back when I'm so craving for Katsu.

Yelp
The menu stays focused, with just a few cuts and three ways to serve tonkotsu; over rice, between bread, or under a curry cover. The Yaki Katsudon is beautiful, and the panko still has some crunch after half an hour of steaming in my car. The juicy cutlet sits on a bed of egg over pork-drippings-katsu-sauce rice. The Katsu Sando is hefty and thick, fluffy bread and the cross-section of pink pork is just so pretty. Curry comes with pork loin nuggets; it's a mild and smooth. No bad choices, but the first two are my best. They have a ribeye special too, which I may try next time I'm there. Highly recommend, just try to eat it as fresh as possible.

Yelp
Tonkatsu Marushichi in Torrance is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Japanese comfort food. The ambiance is simple, clean, and cozy - it's more of a takeout place with only a few counter seating along two sides of the wall. You order at a kiosk and just hope that you can find a seat (if you are going to eat there). We got lucky and were able to get a seating for 3, so we were able to enjoy our meal there. We ordered the Yaki Katsudon Tenderloin ($22) and the Katsu Sando Sandwich ($20), and both were incredible. The meat was perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside. The quality of meat used is definitely a premium cut, so I can see why it's on the pricier side. We also added extra rice and the spicy mayo. The spicy mayo gave each bite a flavorful kick and a nice contrast to the rich katsu. Next time, I'll try the Kizami wasabi sauce. While the Katsu Sando was delicious and well-balanced, my favorite was the Yaki Katsudon - the sauce soaked into the rice with a layer of egg added so much depth and flavor. Everything tasted fresh and carefully made and the packaging that each dish came in was so cute. I loved everything about it, and it reminded me of being in Japan. If you're looking for top-quality tonkatsu in the South Bay, Tonkatsu Marushichi absolutely delivers! Honestly, this was the best katsu I've ever had.

Yelp
The perfect picnic food!! Katsu boxes to go. The flavor is goood and meat quality is super yummy. The rice was delicious. The only thing I wish is that the panko be crispier. But maybe that's because I didn't eat it immediately. This place has better flavor but kagura is way more crispy. But I would definitely get this again. Someone else picked it up so I can't speak on how the ambiance or service was!

Yelp
Got to finally try the tonkatsu sandwich! I wised up this time by placing the order via DoorDash ahead of my arrival. The order was ready upon arrival and I didn't have to wait at all. The inside of the store had little to no ventilation or A/C so I am glad I used DoorDash for pickup. It's 100+F outside today. I don't understand why so many of SoCal establishments in general forgoes using air conditioning. The katsu sandwich was thickly cut and very tender. Just what I was looking to sink my teeth in. I wish they sold shredded cabbage as a side salad because that would add some extra crunch and promote better satiety. I look forward to trying out their other menu items in the future.

Yelp
Food is high quality! Very yummy tasting, super fresh. Service is walk up and order. The restaurant doesn't have much seating, just 8 seat total - so not ideal for big groups. But would be very good for take out!

Yelp
The best Tonkatsu in town. The pork cutlet is very delicious, juicy, and very tender . Omelets is so fluffy and the Japanese rice is so soft that go well with Tonkatsu and the yummy pickle . I will definitely come back here when I'm craving for Tonkatsu. Love it !

Yelp
I tried their Katsu Sando from Japan, and when I heard they were opening, I was a little excited. While there was some expectation, I already knew it wouldn't be as good as having one in Japan simply because ingredients are different (i.e., pork). I heard they had a crazy sale when they first opened, but I didn't bother going. Even though I work nearby, Marushichi closes too early for me to stop in. So far I have come here twice, and I think I know what I liked and didn't like. Ordering is done on kiosks and also online, if I am not wrong. They charge a ridiculous price for wasabi that isn't even fresh. You can order extra katsu sauce but not on the side. Hmm, I don't know why that's not possible, but it is not. Food? It is good. I tried the Premium (Pork Ribeye), Deluxe or Deluxue, Tenderloin, and Katsu Sando, so basically everything. They do have one with curry as well. The meat is tender for the most part. Deluxe was not as tender, but that is given. Out of the four that I had, I think Katsu Sando was the best. The reason why I didn't like the katsu as much was because of the breading. The first time I had it, I had it hours later, so the breading was soggy, and it easily separated from the meat. Like eating the meat and having to pick up the fried breading was no fun. So, I thought maybe because I didn't eat it right away, it was soggy and separating. On my second visit, I decided to eat it inside the store to test it out, and there was no difference. While the breading was a little more crispy, it kept on coming off the meat. I do not like that. The breading should stick to the meat, even after a bite. One more thing -- the only drinks available are bottled teas (Teas' Tea). I think adding some carbonated options, even just Coke, Sprite, or Japanese sodas, would've been a much better match for the food than tea alone. The store isn't air-conditioned, so it's pretty warm inside, but there are two tables with high chairs on each side if you choose to eat in. Lemon-infused water is available as well. Customer service is on point; nothing to complain about! While it's definitely worth trying if you're nearby, I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Yelp
I had high expectations for this place, but unfortunately was a bit let down. The price is high for takeout style and for the small portion size. The deluxe pork was fatty and tender, but I felt it was missing a sauce. I ordered the wasabi which added some heat to it. The steam from the cover makes the katsu soggy.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant during its opening weekend. It opened at 11 a.m., and I arrived just before noon--only to find a growing line. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes to place my order. During their soft opening, the menu was minimal, offering just two items. Unfortunately, the "Deluxe" was already sold out, leaving only the Katsu Sandwich available. What I thought would be a quick 15-20 minute stop turned into an hour-long wait. By around 1 p.m., the line had mostly died down but only because they had sold out completely. The only people still in line were the hopeful ones, crossing their fingers that there might be extras after all the pre-orders were fulfilled. There were no guarantees, but they waited anyway. There's no indoor seating, so we ended up eating in the car. Verdict: FREAKING DELICIOUS. The pork cutlets were THICC. It looked like they smashed the circular center loin to fit it into the sandwich. What gives it that pink center? It's likely cooked sous vide at a low temperature for 15 hours. I could be wrong, but that's my guess. According to the restaurant, "The signature pink color is proof that the meat is properly cooked and perfectly safe to eat." The sandwich build is simple bread, katsu sauce, and pork loin but the flavor was off the charts. Soft, savory, and satisfying. I'm definitely coming back just not until the hype dies down a bit so I don't have to wait another hour for a sandwich.

Yelp
We popped in at 1:47 on Saturday. There was a small line and everything was sold out except the curry. We took 2 orders to go and it cost $46.10 including a few bucks tip. The package was wrapped nicely. However it's pretty pricey for what you get. There's 4 pieces of pork loin and rice. No condiments except a dash of pickles. Since it was to go only the tonkatsu was soggy when we got home. Overall I was underwhelmed. We went because Stephen saw people posted it on instagram. The curry was pretty thick and I guess it is what they're known for. It's like gravy at thanksgiving more than curry. I don't think I'd go back. There's so many places in socal that has curry. Even the South Bay has some good places. Take out only and be prepared to wait.

Yelp
9/23/2025 Went on a Tuesday at 11:45am. No lines, no customers as of yet. After 12:00pm people started trickling in for their lunch order. YAKI KATSUDON - TENDERLOIN - Crispy on the outside, juicy pork on the inside. It was a really thick cut and it was flavorful and delicious! I think trying this over the Deluxe will be well worth it. - Lots of donkatsu sauce flavor added to the donkatsu itself. So no extra sauce was needed. Some parts I did taste more sauce, which was a bit more than I wanted. - Outside breading is thin, so you have to eat it immediately or donkatsu will get soggy. Ate it immediately and the donkatsu breading was crispy. - Loved the pickled vegetables. Wish there was more. - It was a thin blanket of eggs over the rice, so it didn't completely have that fluffy texture. It was still soft, however wished it was fluffier. The rice was well done and had additional soy sauce based sweet sauce underneath. Probably teriyaki sauce. - Do not reheat! It does not reheat very well and it will not taste the same. Reheating will make the tenderloin very dry. The eggs will not be good either because it was thin. The only thing worth heating is the rice. KATSU SANDO - Very juicy and the pork was thick! - Shokupan bread was soft. - Katsu was the star. - This was the best katsu sando I've had in awhile! - Tastes great even after refrigerating it and eating the next day. Overall a lot of food. The tenderloin was a lot for one person and the katsu sando was a lot for one person. Share with another person. Definitely shareable! SIDES The sauces keep the main dishes interesting instead of one note and tiresome to eat. Kizami Wasabi - Freshly grated wasabi. It definitely had that punch with each bite! Loved with both the Tenderloin and Katsu Sando. Recommend getting it! Spicy Mayo - Slightly more spicier than Sriracha, but a cleaner flavor. Recommend this with the Katsu Sando if you want additional spicy kick. Everything comes with a pair of chopsticks and a wet paper towel. Drinks are all bottled drinks. I got an oolong iced tea, which was not bad. It was straight from the fridge so it was nice and cool. SEATS Limited seats and all of them are bar seats. Not comfortable to eat. However, appreciate there is a place to sit and eat, although I did end up eating inside my car. CUSTOMER SERVICE / SELF-ORDER KIOSK Limited customer service experience, since everything is ordered via self-order kiosk. Overall customer service was good. Food wait time was a little over 10 minutes, since there were no other customers before me. PARKING Parking lot is big and you probably won't have trouble finding parking. Overall a great experience! I would love to return for my tonkatsu cravings!

Yelp
I read somewhere that this restaurant from Japan claims to serve some of the thickest tonkatsu. It did take me back to Japan where these thick cuts of pork are made into katsu and served with egg and rice. This place is take out only and can sell out before closing time. It just fairly went through the soft opening but it seemed efficient and I didn't have to wait too long for 3 orders to be made. I did get the meal set and it was packaged so cute in a bento box. The pork was not dry. They do pour the sauce on top of everything before packaging it and maybe we traveled no more than 10 mins and the crispness of the katsu was lost. Not sure if it would be appropriate to separately package it to maintain the crispness. I did have it with kizami wasabi and it added a bit of a kick to it which I loved. The egg was fluffy and the rice was perfect with the sauce covering it. You order on the kiosk and with just a few items it made it simple and quick to order. Next time I do want to try the sando.

Yelp
If you enjoy katsu pork or just like pork there are very good pork items - there was a line of people when I arrived. My partner proclaimed the sandwich "OMG good" while I chose the tenderloin which was very good. The place is take out only and is in the same location as my former favorite bento place then my favorite curry takeout. Marushichi is really takeout only so the ambiance is almost nothing except friendly customers and some interesting photos of related locations in Tokyo. Easy parking is nearby. The prices are a bit of a high for middle of day/ lunch takeout. The portions are large to ensure leftovers so it really is about $12 per meal. Also, the packaging is nice - maybe too nice for a lunch, lol. The menu currently seems pretty limited with Katsu on a bed of egg and rice; a katsu pork sandwich; and, katsu pork curry. Everything seems at least $20. It almost makes one wonder if this is a pop up location. I hope it stays around longer than its predecessors.

Yelp
Tasty pork tonkatsu to-go. Went during the week of their grand opening. Was a clean place, but noticed it was really a takeaway only restaurant (at the time). Ordered the tonkatsu - the pork was delicious and very well prepared. The egg was good, along with the rice. The price paid was fine - think it was about $15-$17. This was the grand opening price though and noticed the menu had it for about $23 regularly. That's a little steep, but perhaps there's more food that comes with it. Overall - delicious food and if there are lunch specials, wouldn't mind coming back.

Yelp
Got there right before they closed and still was able to get the deluxe katsu bento! So delicious and really appreciated them taking our order! Really want to try the curry next time!

Yelp
Japan's thickest and most tender tonkatsu has arrived in America! Tonkatsu Marushichi is the newest tonkatsu spot in the South Bay and is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Since they are newer, you can expect a line and wait times. Keep in mind that they are takeout only, so plan accordingly. Wifey and I pulled up for lunch around 11am and there was no wait yet. For their menu, they have katsudon and sando options to choose from. Wifey chose the Deluxe Katsudon and I got the Katsu Sando. I would highly recommend eating the food right away or soon after receiving it as the crunchiness of the tonkatsu can get soggy if sitting for too long. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our food. All of the staff here are friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend stopping by at least once to experience what they have to offer here. From Tokyo, Japan to Torrance, California: Tonkatsu Marushichi welcome to SoCal!

Yelp
Tonkatsu Marushichi is a little overrated and a master class in marketing. If you're expecting the crispy, flakey crunch from traditional tonkatsu from Japan, you should go elsewhere. The signature of Marushichi is the juicy pink cutlet that is tender and soft. However, since it's only to-go, the fried exterior gets soggy by the time you get to the meal. And it's just okay. I honestly prefer Kagura for the price you pay at Marushichi. A+ for presentation of the meal but it's an added cost that I'd rather go into the food instead of the container. Because it just opened, expect there to be a line. I arrived at 11:05am and there was a long line already. Within an hour, they'd received over 30 orders and it took almost 40 mins to get my order.

Yelp
Wow, there's been so many Japan-based chain restaurants opening in LA lately! What a treat! I visited during their grand opening (July 7th)! They were having a special promotion for the first 77 customers: Deluxe Katsudon at $7 (instead of $22). I came in 30 minutes before opening. There was already a line forming outside (which is no surprise nowadays). It took about 1 hour and a half from joining the line, waiting for the store to open, to actually getting my order. I found out about their grand opening and promo through social media. Prior to this visit, I've been to the Tokyo location in Ikebukuro for dine-in. I didn't get to see their take-out packaging in Japan, but it seems like they're going for the premium omiyage / bento style here. Consistency-wise, it's about as good as the one in Japan. Extremely tender and juicy pork cutlet. Which is (without a doubt), probably the best you can find in LA. The only catch is that since it's take-out, there's no condiments bar, which is provided when dining in. Price-wise, it's definitely on the high side. It's a premium meal. If it was a dine-in restaurant, maybe I'd consider (since it comes with table service and a proper place to sit), but if it's take out, I think $15 (instead of $22) would be a fairer price for the Deluxe. But yeah, we're getting more awesome options in the area now, and I look forward to more! I highly recommend this place for tonkatsu. Warning: once you try it, other tonkatsus in LA won't be the same.

Yelp
TL;DR - juicy, tender, and THICK tonkatsu with a crispy exterior. Really good and Id come back! I was here for their for their grand opening and I was not surprised there was a long line around the corner of the building! This store is popular in Japan for its gigantic tonkatsu. Ive heard they claim it to be the thickest tonkatsu in Japan and I would not be surprised when I saw their 1lb option. There was a lot to eat! They're known for the Yaki Tonkatsu Deluxe. Crispy on the outside and really juicy and fatty on the inside. I was curious to know if the juiciness and tenderness would be sacrificed for the size of the katsudon but surprisingly it wasn't :] I learned the meat is slowly cooked for a long time, and then battered and fried just before serving. The regular price is $22 which may feel a little bit on the expensive side (grand opening price is $7). However, given how good the tonkatsu tasted with the rice and egg underneath, I'd say its worth it! The service was very friendly and professional. No area to sit to eat though, but its still the grand opening after all. Im happy to see they opened here. Highly recommend and would come back!

Yelp
Finally ordered from this new tonkatsu place that's supposed to be amazing in Japan and now here in Torrance! Next time I'll need to try the Sando and the curry fosho! This is takeout only (but they did have a small rail it looked like for a couple people if you wanted on the one side). They basically only have the 3 items but they do them well! You can order when you get there on their iPad like system, or I suggest order ahead - they use DoorDash system but I confirmed that the prices were identical to in the store (not jacked up a few dollars per item like many takeout places) and no fees (just tax) - so you can use it and my food was ready and paid easy-peasy! It comes in a very Japanese looking little bentobox - I didn't get any sauces or extras but I'm curious about maybe the wasabi they have although it's an extra $3.50. For what you get already for $22 it's a little pricey but was certainly very good and meat quality very good. The egg was also perfectly cooked on top of the rice. It's in the Eastgate shopping Plaza at the corner of Carson and Western that has other favs like Momo Paradise, 85C Bakery, Daiso, Sushi Nozomi, Baekjeong KBBq, and Waraku. You won't leave the parking lot hungry...

Yelp
My sister told me about this place so I got it in the way home. I've never had tonkatsu before but I will definitely get it again. Very delicious. I got the pork tenderloin and it was nice and juicy. This is a take out only spot and they only accept card, no cash. Kinda pricey but very good quality.

Yelp
Nicely decorated little restaurant serves a few thick pork cutlet dishes. You could order online or in store. Limited seating on both sides of the restaurant but i see most people order to go instead of dine in. Definitely one of the best thick pork cutlets we had in south bay. Fresh, juciy, tender and flavorful but not overpowering. Highly recommended if you like pork. Will be back next week and order to gi

Yelp
Got the premium tonkatsu bento and sandwich. Food came out fairly quickly. The meat from premium is well cooked and has some good flavor. Personally, I don't like how it's sweet. I usually don't put any katsu sauce on my tonkatsu. Didn't really care for the egg. There were also some Japanese pickled vegetables on the side which tasted okay. Wasn't really able to finish the bento. I think it was too much fried, sweet, fattiness for me. The meat for the sandwich os pretty big. Slightly dry and didn't seem to be much better than other katsu sando.

Yelp
We went to Japan recently and this was on our list of places to try in Ginza so I was thrilled to see they're opening their first location in the US in Torrance! I came here during their grand opening week (7/7-7/13) for lunch. During this week, they had a limited time special with lower prices on their items. By the time I got there 10 minutes before opening, there was a line starting to form outside the door. The line moved quickly though and you order on a tablet at the counter once you're in. Food came out fairly quickly--about a ten minute wait. I got the katsu sando for $13 (normally $20) and the yaki katsudon deluxe for $15 (normally $22). The packaging was super cute and came in a wooden bento box style. The tonkatsu itself in both dishes were the thickest cuts I've ever seen! The pork was cooked perfectly, super moist and not dry at all. I do wish it was a tad bit crispier on the outside but it was still delicious. The katsu sando came with 3 pieces of sandwiches and the bread they used was so soft. The yaki katsudon came with 6 pieces of thick katsu over a bed of rice, Japanese pickles, and fluffy eggs. I preferred the katsudon over the sandwich but that's just my personal preference. The only regret I had was I wished I paid extra for more sauce on the side. There is already sauce in both dishes mixed in, but I just wanted a bit more to dip my tonkatsu pieces in for the katsudon. I would definitely come back even after the grand opening to pay the higher regular prices for this. Keep in mind, this place is take-out only and no seats inside or outside. Parking: free in plaza lot

Yelp
The BEST. Self ordering Kiosk inside. Service was friendly. Will definitely tell everyone I know and be coming back.

Yelp
TLDR: I recommend the Sando. Order on the drive there. The sando is soft, tender and flavorful without feeling greasy. If it had a little more crunchy it would be perfect. I would recommend eating the sandwhich while its still hot. Add a single order of spicy mayo per two sandwiches. They had good and efficient service. Cons: The place is small with limiting seating. They only have tea and water to drink. It's a bit pricey but food costs are up almost everywhere.

Yelp
O-M-G... The food here was amazing. The flavor, texture, temperature and serving size are all wonderful. I had the DELUX option and it's definitely worth the price and the wait.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! The presentation is great and the pork is so tender and juicy. It is worth the price.

Yelp
This is probably the best katsudon I've had in the US. It reminds me of some of the best katsudons I've had in Japan. The katsu is perfectly fried and the meat is super tender. The sauce they pour over meat and rice is addicting, especially once it's mixed in with the rice. The katsu sando is also really good, with really tender pork and super soft bread. It's a hole in the wall place that does takeaway only and has no seating. BIG DISCLAIMER: they sell out quickly. We went right when they opened at 11am and they still had everything but by 11:45 they said they only had the sandwich left. Maybe it's because they're in soft opening only, but make sure you get there early or you risk them selling out by noon.

Yelp
Sooo delicious! The wait was worth it! We got there around 12:30 and were warned it would be a 30 - 40 minute wait, which it was. While we waited we walked around the center did a little shopping at the Daiso store and my son got a bite from the 85 Bakery cafe to hold him over and then our order was ready! This is take out only and we wanted to eat it still hot and as fresh as possible.. so we enjoyed the katsu sando special and Yaki Katsudon deluxe in the car. First the presentation is so nice and you can tell everything was put together with care. We enjoyed both , the sando was three small sandwiches which were moist and delicious, but the star was definitely the Yaki Katsudon delux, a bed of seasoned rice, egg and cutlets on top.. so much going on, crunchy moist sweet savory.. so much goodness! It's a must try!

Yelp
Famous spot that locals in Japan line up for -- and you can taste why. The donkatsu bento was thick, tender, and delicious. The katsu sando, though, was a bit dry and hard to eat. Still, definitely worth trying if you're a fan of authentic Japanese-style donkatsu.

Yelp
Take out only, no dine in area. We went at 11am on Saturday, we recommend order online then picking up. Service was fast. Tenderloin, super soft meat. Deluxe, closer to what you expect for tonkatsu, meat was juicy and tender but not as soft as the tenderloin. Curry, interesting unique flavor does not taste like your typical coco ichibanya. Definitely housemade and the meat in this curry was the leanest of them all. It wasn't as tender and juicy like the other ones. Please note, these meals don't come with your typical katsu sauce. I believe you can order them for an extra price (add on). I personally think you don't need it because everything is seasoned and has great flavor. If we had to recommend one dish it would be the Deluxe, but trying the other dishes won't hurt. They all taste delicious.

Yelp
They boast of serving authentic Japanese tonkatsu made to order, so the food takes quite a while to arrive. Unfortunately, the flavor was mediocre, with a gamey smell and soggy batter. The freshly ground wasabi and coffee were good, but the portion of wasabi was tiny--and at $3.75, definitely overpriced. Considering the high price and the lack of seating space, I wouldn't come back.

Yelp
Always love coming to Marushichi! The staff are always so friendly whenever I come. The food is absolutely amazing, highly recommend the tenderloin! The pork is always so soft and the egg and rice complement the pork so well. I will say it's a little expensive for an order, but well worth it in my opinion!

Yelp
The best katsu sandos ever. This place is truly a gem with chic setting that feels like you're in Tokyo. Service is efficient.

Yelp
The katsudon came with a generous portion, featuring a thinner cut of katsu and a light, fluffy egg omelet on top. The flavors were spot on no extra sauce needed. While the breading could've been a bit crispier, it was still a really satisfying dish. Overall, an excellent meal. Looking forward to seeing the full menu available soon! Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5

Yelp
Came here for the Grand Opening. I got their katsu special they had for today. The katsu was juicy and delicious. I wouldn't mind trying their other items but it is a bit pricey for me.

Yelp
I saw this place on an IG short and was super hyped to try it out! I had high expectations for this place because this restaurant originated from Tokyo. I tried both the Deluxe and Tenderloin but both dishes were disappointing. Price at $48 including tax for both orders, I felt like I got scammed. Very small interior and it is more of a takeout place. Their packaging is nice but not practical. The Tonkatsu is trapped inside a steamed box and becomes extremely soggy by the time you get home. The meat itself is not a high quality meat like Kurobuta/Berkshire. Both meats were extremely normal tasting, lackluster, not very tender, and soggy tonkatsu. The egg was just okay, a bit on the dryer side. The star of the dish was the rice with good individual grain taste and firmness Overall, I would not come back as the food itself was too overpriced for what you get and the taste itself was subpar. Despite Coco ichibanya being a curry spot, I think their Tonkatsu is better..

Yelp
I literally just ate here for lunch like 45 minutes ago and the katsu sandwich was so good I felt compelled to immediately write a 5 star review. I am pretty sure this is the best katsu sandwich I've ever had in my life. Go here and get it. Trust

Yelp
I ordered both the tenderloin and deluxe tonkatsu, and I found both to be delicious- the pork was juicy, thick and flavorful. Your staff was also very friendly. The only downside to my experience was the lack of air conditioning. With temperature in the high 80s during the summer and no open windows, the dining experience was a bit uncomfortable.

Yelp
Fantastic takeout restaurant with THE BEST Tonkatsu in LA. I ordered the Tenderloin. It's a delicious, tender, juicy, and THICK breaded 1/2 lb pork chop over a bed of egg and rice with a wonderful sauce. It'll set you back $22, but it's a generous portion that feeds me for 2 meals. I've been here several times now. The staff is always courteous and friendly. Parking is easy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food was amazing, I don't usually eat pork but this was the softest and juiciest katsu I've ever tasted. The fried parts were so crunchy and just fits so well with the katsu. We got the sandwich and the deluxe. 10/10 would get it again. So delicious!

Yelp
I ordered the Yaki Katsudon Deluxe during their opening week and can say that the cutlet itself is thick and moist. It is nicely cooked and not at all dry throughout the entire piece. The breading is light so the sauce drizzled over the katsudon soaked into it, but still had a slight crunch by the time I brought it home to eat. Most of the bold flavor was contained in the breading, while the loin itself had a mellow taste. Bad pork has a "smelly" taste to it but this had no smell and had a good quality porky taste to it. It sat on a layer of scrambled eggs and short grain rice. The egg kept the sauce from drenching the rice and let it run just slightly through. The layer of egg was about 95% cooked through so it was not so runny or soft scrambled as I preferred, but it served as a nice contrast from the saucy fried cutlet. The rice also was cooked just right, as it was not mushy or hard. Each grain of rice was a distinct piece and had a good chew to it. Everything was contained in a cute bento box. Unsure if it's microwave safe but I popped it in to heat my leftovers and it was "fine" and was still delicious, albeit just a tad dryer than before. My only nitpicks would be purely personal. I think I would want the sauce on the side to try to prolong the crispy breading since there isn't currently any dine-in. I would probably also buy more sauce on the side when the full menu comes into play since I felt the rice needed a little more flavor - again purely preference and not a knock to the quality of the food. As a huge note, the storefront is small and the previous occupant also had limited seating, so I don't expect that to change. Service was relatively quick for it being their opening week and for opening in SoCal/LA where people swarm to try new restaurants. I really hope this place sticks around because good thick cut katsudon isn't currently common. Overall, I would come back for sure and will be added on my regular list if they can maintain this level of quality. I especially appreciate the lunch menu pricing also. A huge bonus! Also be sure to keep an eye out on their IG for updates because it's still early in the opening period but at the time of this review (7/8/25) they are currently serving *modified hours* or until *sold out*. Do not assume and come early if you really want to try this place out.
