"From its origins in Tokyo’s Monzen-Nakacho, this thick-cut tonkatsu specialist brings its signature yaki katsudon—crunchy panko-crusted slabs of pork set over egg and rice, reputed by some to be the thickest katsu in Tokyo—to its first U.S. outpost in Torrance. The take-out-only shop offers a streamlined menu with three versions of the signature bowl (a one-pound premium loin, a third-pound deluxe loin, and a half-pound tenderloin), plus a katsu sandwich and katsu curry, with sides like wasabi, spicy mayonnaise, and a signature sauce, and green tea to drink. Known for a pale pink center achieved through longer, low-temperature cooking, the katsu stays tender and moist; seating is limited to a few counter chairs, and hours run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily." - Rebecca Roland
