Met some friends here for a dinner out. I haven't been here in over 6 years, and they are still doing quite well, nice crowd that night. Totally same interior and same menu, just pricing to match the times.
You order at the counter and food will get brought out to the table.
I ordered a couple bottles of Chianti for the large table for 6. Nothing fancy just a decent red good with basic Italian food. I think it was around $28-$30 each so a great price since most at our table aren't wine aficionados. And I liked how they gave out non-stemmed wine glasses, just like if you were at an Italian grandma's house.
Linguine with Clams ($23/3*) Good texture on the pasta, nice and al dente and a decent amount of clams. Definitely got a good dose of garlic and lots of parsley. The wine sauce was light and not thickened which I like, but the flavor was just too bland for me as I didn't even get any briny-ness from any clam juice. Our table didn't have any shakers, so I just muscled it through. It is a filling bowl.
Italian Beef Sandwich ($19/4.5*) Crazy simple and good. Not really what I was expecting which is like a Chicago style where the sandwich is wet from a dip into some au jus or at least served with a side of au jus. This was just tender sliced beef with melted white cheese (provolone?) in an awesome toasted baguette. Basically a 3 ingredient sandwich. Now I did love the quality and simplicity, but it definitely could have used another ingredient, whether onions, mushrooms or pickled giardiniera. The bread that they use is top notch, I'd probably try another toasty sandwich here next time around.
Sandwiched between Santana Row and Valley Fair mall, which makes me squeamish, but they are in their own older strip mall, so they have their own parking lot. Nice re-visit.
