Things to Do in Baton Rouge (2025)
Tony's Seafood

Tee T.

Google
I found this place on my way to the airport a few weeks ago! The food was very good! I had the gumbo, shrimp & crab boudin balls, and the poboy sandwich! Everything was fresh and hot, and I enjoyed it so much that I am planning my next trip to Louisiana with Tony’s being my first stop!

Barry E.

Google
Tony's runs like a well oiled machine, and employs a huge staff of friendly and courteous people. They have been in business for years in the same location under the direction of the same family. The product has retained the same quality through the years, which in Baton Rouge sets them apart from many others who are no longer around. I really enjoy the cafeteria style lunches that are served daily, as well as the boiled shrimp and crawfish when in season. Whether you are grabbing goodies to go or need large portions for events Tony's is your one stop shop for seafood. Stop in if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed.

Google
The Tony's special is the best!! Etoufe over catfish 🤤Food is SO GOOD here!! If you're in Baton Rouge you needs to stop at Tony's Seafood. You won't regret it! Try the carrot soufflé it's 🤯 We stop every time we're back in town. Just wish I would've got one more piece of sausage in my beans lol. I only got one 🥺

Alex K.

Google
Nice market and to go restaurant. Very good price. Good choice of local food. There is no actual restaurant. No tables. You have to take prepared food out.

Kentya S.

Google
I don’t usually write bad reviews, however I ordered a plate today and when I got to my destination (30 minutes from the restaurant) I realized that my carrot soufflé had a piece of hair in it. I called the restaurant and explain to them what I had found. A manager answered the phone and said that I could bring the food back to her so that she could give me a refund. However, I explained to her that I didn’t live nor work close to the restaurant and couldn’t just return today. She told me that the only way that I will receive a refund or if they will remake my food is if I return the plate in the same condition that I received it. That’s not at all plausible because why should I the consumer have to inconvenience myself for their lack of proper protection around their food. I asked if she could take my name down and I return on another day due to me not being in that area and she then proceeds to tell me that if I can’t return the food then I can’t get anything from them. Honestly I’ve been eating here for years and have never had an issue. Today was just a day of reflection in how they care for their customers/ their own brand. I hope they find a different way to alleviate issues like this in the future. This is absolutely disgusting and disheartening.

Google
You can't go wrong. I came here 3 times during my trip to Baton Rogue and lemme tell you the cooked food is top notch full of flavor plus the service is uncomprimised with plenty of seafood options to get you right.

Karissa A.

Google
I used to absolutely love Tony's Seafood, but I had to stop eating there for a while because everything was starting to taste different. I don't know if the recipes changed of if the oil it's cooked in changed but everything I've tried recently and to eat regularly has this horrible/ bitter after taste. So yesterday I was in the area and decided to grab 8 Cajun balls before work, when I tell you they were hard as a rock and so dried out on the inside, I am truly disappointed.

amie G.

Google
Before I visited Tony’s, I had never had a seafood boil before and boy am I glad I saved my first boil for this place. I am obsessed, I stay awake at night thinking about how delicious their food is and their amazing waitstaff! I have been here twice now and I can guarantee you every time I am nearby I will be stopping in for food. The shrimp are absolutely perfect!!

Yelp
Super food even on Sunday. What a neat place. The also run a plate special. We just went for boudin and boudin balls
google avatar

Angela Q.

Yelp
We used to stop here a lot when visiting Baton Rouge but our kids moved to another side of town. We drove over to grab some items to put on the grill for the holiday. Tony's does not disappoint. They have a variety of frozen items as well as a full steam table, steamed /boiled seafood and fresh fish. We went in hungry and left out with 3 bags of stuff. We got hot plates of fish, shrimp, smothered steak, jambalaya and boudin. They should really make a sign that explains the ordering process at the steam table. So many items to choose from and you can't be sure what's an entree versus a side. Options are plentiful and everything was good. I was disappointed that they sold the potatoes corn and turkey necks along with the boiled crawfish and shrimp but no sausage nor boiled eggs. We also left with a package of the best pralines I have had ever! The stuffed pork chops and stuffed whole chicken was a hit at our Memorial Day bbq.

Yelp
My god this place is incredible. It has everything you would want for a Louisiana seafood market and deli. The staff are very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. This is my new go to place for seafood when I'm the area.

B. N.

Yelp
I have relocated out of state and believe me I miss Toneys so much. I even use to order but the shipping charges are too expensive. They are the best!
google avatar

Ruthie S.

Yelp
I'm back again all the way from Florida and this is always my first stop after getting off the plane. Delicious, hot, and always hits the spot. Got the catfish, Mac and Cheese, dirty rice, and a praline cream cake.. oooooh we when I say good eating.. ya gotta try it for yourself.

ME M.

Yelp
I went to Tony's seafood yesterday with my mother standing to get my shrimp. This Sheriff police who was supposed to watch for robbers, we're watching me on what I am wearing and proceeded to harass me and tell me I shouldn't be in the store. Remind you he isn't the manager and didn't know the company policy and telling me that he think he should let me know and claimed he was doing his job. I got him on recording. I asked ai chat and even the darn computer know it is wrong. So I filed a sheriff complaint against him, but this is unacceptable. From what I gather from another review they smoke drugs there and have the nerve to harass me and my attire. Totally rude people. I have been to several establishments before this place and this is the only establishment has rude people. That's why I usually don't shop in the hood, because of people like that. I got his video mentioning he didn't know the policy either. Total harassment

Yelp
One Stop Shop! Plenty of food options to choose from... hot or cold! I loved the muffuletta my fav!! Great service plenty staff around to help. Very clean establishment. And again every treat you need they have for sure give them a try. Be sure to go on with a Budget lol
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Nice authentic Cajun food stop / grocery store. Make sure to take your time to walk around first and take it all in. The ordering can be a little chaotic so you have to make sure you are in the right line for the food you are wanting! Worth the BR stop.
google avatar

Peyton F.

Yelp
I was so excited to go here for the first time, it feels like a BR staple! The catfish is so good, it's fried very well and they give great portions. The fries were not good, some were super soggy and cold, others were hot and crunchy, others were too hard to eat. The coleslaw that comes with the fried fish plate is very good, it has a sweet flavor. The service was fast especially considering how many people were in there since I went on a Sunday afternoon. I also got hush puppies, they were very very crunchy..too much breading for my liking. I'd go back for the fish!

Lori C.

Yelp
HOT DAMN! The best fried catfish ever! First time here, came from airport, no tables, but had to have it, so we ate in car!
google avatar

Candace V.

Yelp
The boiled seafood here is an amazing quality and price, and folks are just so kind and professional. This place is not a sit down establishment, but we've come here as a family many times, gotten seafood, and then picked up Arnold Palmers at Cane's across the street and ate in the parking lot. Today I bought 3 lbs of cooked shrimp, 2 large crabs, and a half pint of greens for about $50. I intend to make these my next 3 meals while I'm in town, and it's better than most other places I could go. I came here on my local family's recommendation years ago and have loved it consistently. I recently learned that this business has been in one family for 4 generations, and every new expansion has gone into employing more folks in the neighborhood. The family here is well-liked because of their business practices and humility. Does this affect the taste of my crawfish or boudin? No. Is it nice to have amazing food from a quality small business? Absolutely.

Arnold C.

Yelp
great!...great!.....buffalo ribs, catfish, crawfish, everything i have bought was great!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Carol V.

Yelp
Very good seafood and they produce/sell Louisiana fried seafood seasoning. Try red beans and rice plus gumbo boudin balls. It's all good.

Susan C.

Yelp
Really more of a fish market/store but has a take out line w an amazing assortment of seafood choices. I got the fried shrimp and oyster combo w fries and it was GOOD. They had just about anything else I could think of related to seafood in the market. The place was busy but service was fast. Ambiance was typical fish market w no place really to sit and eat, but it was clean and staff was helpful. Great food.

Yelp
Simply a BR staple. If not *the* BR staple. I've been going to Tony's since before I could walk, and every single time I was in town before I even moved here. It's not even the nostalgia talking though, this is just genuinely peak, authentic Louisiana soul food. It will heal you! Not to mention how good the fresh seafood is, I'll always make the trip across town if I plan on doing a boil. Just try to figure out what you want before you get in line so you can avoid a full-blown panic attack when they ask you what you want haha. Those ladies don't have time for you to stand there and decide!

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
I was traveling through and looking forward to some of their food, and I was very disappointed -- be careful when you place an order for take out especially for macaroni and cheese -- I ordered a half a gallon and it was disgusting -- it had no taste to it and it seemed that they mixed some cheese with water and threw it into the container -- shameful for what they did so even if they pack your To Go Orders open it up before you leave the store. And the lady who answers the telephone needs to learn what customer service means -- she's rude!!
google avatar

Jason N.

Yelp
Cold crawfish and the service was bad! It just wasn't very clean unhappy about the service. The food was subpar. At least the Crawfish was.
google avatar

Tania C.

Yelp
This is a great spot to stop on your way to New Orleans. The food is very good. I had the fried turkey wings. Great size for the price. Sorry I forgot to take a picture because the food looked so good. The next time I go I will get the catfish. I tasted it and wish I ordered that as well. It's a market so they serve the food cafeteria style. Everything is to-go. The servers are nice and friendly.

M. A. L.

Yelp
Food was incredibly tasty, service was fast efficient. The ordering ambiance can be a bit hectic for 1st timers; the line is very long to order your food, but it gives you time to make your choices. The check out process was effective once you realize you don't pay where you receive your food. Will certainly be back for the food and portions were outstanding.
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
This is the only place I buy seafood it's always fresh on. The employees are always friendly & place is clean. you buy the fish and they will clean, debone and filet it. If you are craving some seafood, this is the place to come. They also have a deli where you can purchase, fresh seafood, and Boudin and side dishes made in house but you're also delicious.

Casetta R.

Yelp
Crawfish were dirty...that's it...nothing else!! I grew up as a kid getting crawfish from Tony's, if I recall they were probably the only place you could buy them. At that time they were less than a dollar a pound. This was in the late 70's. Tony's is a mainstay in the black community and have been at the same location, in the 'inner city', for well over 50 years. But the 6 pounds of crawfish ($4.99 lb) I bought yesterday were gritty and dirty! The taste can't beat those Asian crawfish they have a different combination of seasonings that in my opinion are better than Tony's.

Suzonne A.

Yelp
Excellent best of the best‼ Never disappointed with our purchases-from boiled crawfish, crabs , shrimp to the prepared deli dinners! OMG the pressed muffuletta ‼ New Orleans has nothing on them‼
google avatar

Dwayne A.

Yelp
We were driving through the area and looking for something to eat and I'm glad that we came across this place. I love a good fish market and the prices here aren't half bad. You can tell that this place stays busy, between the fish market and the great Cajun food in the deli. We ordered our food and it came out in a short time. Everything tasted great and was very filling.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Great food service was good, even though the lines were long . Smiling faces on line.
google avatar

Ubu W.

Yelp
3.75 stars. Reasonably priced fresh and prepared seafood. Boudin balls, greens, shrimp, and oysters were terrific and well seasoned. Loss of a star for getting my order wrong twice and being mouthy. Loss of .25 stars for not being better seasoned.

Karvette M.

Yelp
I have been shopping and eating here at Tony's Seafood for over 30 years now. I have always had a pleasant experience while visiting this place. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable of all the items they sell. I recommend everyone to visit at let once I promise you will go again.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Literally the best tasting food you can get anywhere. But sadly I can't go back because of the service. An employee literally rolled their eyes at me after he asked "anything else?" I said "Yes, can I get 20 boudin balls". But he meant instead of coleslaw so I guess I'm a terrible human.
google avatar

Blessy S.

Yelp
This is a grocery store that also has a cafe in there. The line was long for a midweek but it was worth the wait. There is no place to sit to eat so we ate in our car. The food was phenomenal and hit the spot.
google avatar

Chelsey C.

Yelp
Tony's is the most iconic Baton Rouge eatery for me! It's a fish market and deli so be aware there's no where to sit down and eat, but don't let that deter you, this is one of my top 5 favorite meals/places to eat of all time! My favorite way to do Tony's is to go through the hot deli line and get a plate with a lot of Cajun or crawfish balls. (Cajun balls are the best boudin balls in town!) for the entree I usually do a catfish tony, the crawfish pies, baked catfish, or stuffed peppers. For sides I always mix it up but my favorites are the mashed potatoes, green beans, Mac and cheese, beans and broccoli cheddar rice or dirty rice. The gumbo is also really solid as well! The coolest part about Tony's is you can get a lot of their balls and fried food in frozen packages (they'll even package them up for you for airplane transport) and you can get their food shipped to you anywhere in continental US.

Yelp
This was my 2nd visit in the past two weeks my visit last week was extremely disappointing. Today I order the 1/2 pound of fried catfish strips. They were deep fried to perfection and they were delicious. The 1/2 pound box had 7 - 8 strips of fried catfish. I also order the 4 piece of Cajun boudin balls. They were also very good and well cooked, not soggy and not greasy. Today I was impressed and really enjoyed my dining experience.

Estella B.

Yelp
Fresh seafood and delicious cooked food. Complete seasons to prepare your dishes at home if preferred. Also check out Tony's menu, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
google avatar

Ann M.

Yelp
Here on vacation and saw they had food here. Stopped by and was surprised to find a fish market with so many different choices of food. I got some souvenirs to take home as well as a very affordable $10 plate of food that consisted of Cajun catfish, mustard greens, meat and rice and two hush puppies. Amazing deal and the food was phenomenal!!!! I'm a picky eater and this food was so good! Wish I had something like this in Cali!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend suggested to stop in to get some food from Tony's on our way back to Shreveport. I'm happy she did. I like places where I can get good food to go. There was a lot to choose from. It was a Sunday afternoon so the line was a bit long but it moved quickly. I choose a mini crawfish pie, baked catfish, red beans and rice and green beans. My goal was to stay away from fried food, even though the fried catfish and fried chicken looked scrumptious. The food was quite delicious. However, the crawfish pie could've been cooked in the oven a few more minutes. The pie crust was still mushy and not as crunchy as I liked. The fish had excellent flavor and the red beans and rice was on point. The green beans were also flavorful. I didn't get a picture to share...I was too hungry. Lol. I also had a bread option with my meal. I got a piece of garlic bread. Everything was something I would get again. If you're in the area and want aome good home cooked food, try Tony's. You can also buy items from the grocery, like frozen meats such as sausage or boudin. In addition to standing in the longer line, there is an express line to get fried seafood balls or shrimp plates.

Yelp
Everything I come to Baton Rouge it's a MUST. Being from Texas this food is AMAZING. We definitely need a place like this in the DFW. Be ready for a nap after you eat this amazing food. The workers are always welcoming.
google avatar

Marian H.

Yelp
I bought shrimp for gumbo. I was going to ship some fish home, but it was waaaay too pricey. The food was delicious. So I brought my stuff on the plane and checked it in as one of my free bags. It worked out.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Super fresh seafood! Wide variety of both live and frozen seafood and accompaniments.
google avatar

Daviyn W.

Yelp
The food is always amazing ! Especially in the hot bar line. The staff are okay, not the friendliest but overall the service and food is amazing. Parking can be a little frustrating though .
google avatar

Ananda D.

Yelp
Im here in Baton Rouge on business from California. My co-worker brought me a plate from Tony's. This food was delicious!! Best food I've had thus far and will go back before I leave. I had fried shrimp, red beans, broccoli cheesy rice and the Cajun boudin balls.
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
Their boiled crawfish is consistently seasoned to perfection each and every time. They manage long lines of customers with minimal wait times. I have been going to Tony's Seafood for 16 years now and have been amazed how quickly I can make and get my order no matter how packed the building is. I also love the fact that they carry a multitude of items from local companies.
google avatar

Jolee S.

Yelp
Got my first louisanna poboy from there.. It was amazing!! People were nice and the service was fast. Next time ill definately try the boudin balls. Cool part is having the louisanna seasoning place right next door. That was pretty dope

Yelp
Yelp! You can some it up in one word, SEAFOODPALOOZA! I didn't say it was a real word! Y'all, this place here is a must see when visiting Baton Rouge! Seafood is everywhere! And, you can buy it and prepare it at home, like you like it. Or, they have fried it, grilled it, broiled for your eating pleasure. Yum. Let's start with fresh. You ain't seen fresh, until you walk in here and these people have a tank of fish and pulled it out! So you can choose the one you want. Then skin it and filet it before your eyes. OMG! Then they pack it on dry ice for travel. These fishermen are here to serve you well. Everybody in this place is so nice. I love it. But, y'all then they got a steam table of prepared food. Catfish, filet or whole, crab legs, crawfish, in all the Louisiana flare. They got gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, crab with corn, potato and sausage, salmon, smoked tuna. I CAN'T NAME ALL THIS STUFF! Food is everywhere. You will lose your mind trying to taste All this good stuff. The atmosphere is obviously filled with Friday seafood seekers. Folk are spending all the coins in here and it's reasonable, too. Y'all already know, when I come back here, I gots to come back. Do yourself a favor, if you are near, GET IN HERE!
google avatar

Vaughn O.

Yelp
We swing by Tony's every time we visit my wife's hometown of Baton Rouge. They have all the fresh and frozen seafood you might want, plus a hot food line serving up boudin and other soulful goodness.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
Authentic ,authentic authentic!! First time here and taste very authentic ! Cornbread was the best!
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
The best seafood market in town!! This place is an institution!!! It's also an experience. If you have family coming in to Louisiana to visit I suggest bringing them here. There is live catfish and any other fresh seafood you need to create your seafood feast!! They also sell all types of hot food... I highly recommend grabbing a plate!!! Don't forget the boudin balls!!!

Yelp
Notes: 1) been here once 2) it's also a supermarket Pros: 1) decent checkout service 2) cheap food Cons: 1) really quick service is stressful for newcomers 2) lots of choices without much direction 3) not the best tasting food My friends recommended this place to me as THE place to get good seafood at an inexpensive price. Of course, I had to come and try it out. Driving here was quite far and out of the way, but they have a lot of parking space. The supermarket was really nice and had lots of options to choose from. I didn't really check out the store as I was hungry, but it seemed relatively big. The line was like a line to wait to get into a convention. It was a straight line that allows you to pass all of the food and see. The line ladies were quick and asked you want you wanted without much time to think. For being a newbie, I was struggling to decide with all of the choices laid out in front of me. It was stressful, and the lunch ladies were mean. I ordered what I wanted and was confused at their system. However, it was working for them so it was a good system for them. I did not know the prices before going in, but it is listed on a sign hanging from the ceiling. The service stressed me out as it was meant to be quick and easy. The amount of food that you get was quite a lot as I got all of my food for $20. The food was pretty decent. It has most of the flavor for the foods. However, some of the foods were either too sour, too salty, or a little bland. I didn't think it was the best food restaurant, but you can get a lot of food for cheap. The jambalaya was okay: it has a good amount of meat and flavor but was salty. The meat packed the most punch in terms of flavor, but the rice could have been made better. The rice was a little hard so it was not fully cooked. Some pieces of chicken were sour, and there was not much to the flavor of the dish as a whole. The Mac and cheese was good. It tasted smooth but didn't have much of a cheese taste to it. The beans were good and had lots of flavor to it. The sausage was amazing. I could eat that all day. The hushpuppies were nice without much of a distinctive taste. I could not give this place a 5 star due to the service being rough for newcomers (-1) and due to the taste of the food (-1). I will give the place another try since I am more experienced now and know what I am doing. Furthermore, I could buy food that the place was known for: boudin.

Doc P.

Yelp
This has been a staple for seafood restaurants for decades. People literally come from all over this surrounding areas to buy their seafood here. You can watch them cleaning the fresh catfish in one corner of the building, which is always a delight for the kids, the seafood is always fresh, and seasoned perfectly. The restaurant is always crowded, but lines move quickly. The only downside is that you pretty much have to take your dishes to go. In addition to the bulk frozen and fresh seafood, they do offer line items cooked fresh daily, especially during lunchtime there is a good reason that this place has not only survived, but thrived, for decades.
google avatar

Amira J.

Yelp
this food was perfect, as expected. this place gets really busy especially on the weekends but it is worth all the waiting. seriously if you want good seafood in the south you HAVE to come to tony's. i would recommend coming here really hungry, buying a variety of seafood combinations & sampling everything. parking is actually terrible, but i'm telling yall this place is perfect!! i ordered the crawfish tail box & crawfish etouffee, the best etouffee i've had, it was creamy & ratioed precisely. the freshly fried crawfish tails were seasoned amazingly & fried hard, I need more y'all! one trip here was not enough.

Yelp
Pro Tip: Bring a cooler! That is if you're planning on buying fresh or frozen seafood to bring back home to let's say Wisconsin. That's exactly what we did. Fresh gator wasn't available but they had frozen, vacuumed saved ones. Plus gator sausages and a whole gators; skinned of course. This is something we could never find in the North. We've had gator many times but already prepared. The quality is excellent. We just fried some up the other day with a little bit of Louisiana seasoning, it was *chefs kiss*. On the right side of the establishment, there are tons of other seafood from shrimps, crawfish, to crabs. We didn't look at the specific pricing but looked reasonable. In the middle, there's a warming table with $2 boiled corn and red potatoes plus sandwiches and baked chicken wings. So convenient. The corn and potatoes were perfectly seasoned. A touch of salt and spiciness. Then on the left side, is the deli with a pretty extensive menu. We already ate so we skipped it. Next time, we'll have a bite. There are other grocery items you may purchase from cakes, plates, silverware, and something to drink. We don't look like locals, so everyone was helpful and asked if we had questions. Real nice experience here. Location was easy to find as well. It was next to the famous Louisiana Fish Fry company!

Yelp
Here's the thing, whenever I come to Baton Rouge I stop at Tony's. I've been eating and purchasing seafood from here over 40 years. Lately, it's been hit or miss. This weekend I stopped and ordered from the hot bar line Boudin link Boudin balls Whole Fried Catfish plate with two sides (jambalaya and green beans with corn bread) Seafood gumbo over rice (pint) I also purchased Frozen boudin and frozen boudin balls to bring back with me. The link was hot and perfect although it didn't include the crackers I asked for. The boudin balls were super salty! The seafood and crawfish boudins were also cold! The seafood gumbo was perfect but the jambalaya was just as salty as the boudin balls and the whole catfish was lukewarm and not fried crispy. I was totally surprised with this trip. I think after a certain period of time the food items should be replaced with fresh and hot items. They should also make sure the items are not over seasoned to where you can't eat it. Maybe it was a bad day but hopefully it won't be more visits like this one.
