The 19 Best Restaurants In Tooting - London - The Infatuation

"Tooting Market is a proper community spot. The indoor market, with a mix of fabric shops and food vendors, is a place for slow mornings with groups settling in on the market’s central benches and clacking knitting needles, and a mix of three-piece suits and tracksuits mooching about the maze-like place. When lunchtime rolls around, get the jerk chicken from Caribbean spot The Lone Fisherman; a well-spiced saltfish bake from Guyanese stall Pepi’s; and comforting red bream curry from Mauritian spot, Mangé Des Iles. We're also into Green Choy's fun, neon-lit terrace and their tasty Korean fried chicken burger." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, daisy meager, sinead cranna

Tooting Market - Review - Tooting - London - The Infatuation

"Tooting Market is a proper community spot in Tooting. The indoor market, with a mix of fabric shops and food vendors, is a spot for slow mornings: newborn babies are cradled as long catch-ups are had, groups with clacking knitting needles settle in on their regular bench, and a mix of three-piece suits and tracksuits mooch about the maze-like place. When 12pm rolls around, the fryers start hissing and delicious smells waft about. Get the jerk chicken from Caribbean spot The Lone Fisherman; a well-spiced saltfish bake from Guyanese stall Pepi’s; and comforting red bream curry from Mauritian spot, Mangé Des Iles. We're also into Green Choy's fun, neon-lit terrace and their tasty Korean fried chicken burger. Just know that the market is open seven days a week until 11pm, but different vendors have their own opening hours. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna

Tooting Market is a vibrant and diverse spot in South London that offers a fantastic mix of food stalls, cafes, bars, and shops. The market has a lively, community atmosphere with something for everyone, from international street food to unique local crafts. Whether visiting on a weekday or weekend, the market tends to be buzzing with energy, especially in the evenings. Highlights include the incredible variety of food options—jerk chicken, Mauritian curries, and Korean fried chicken burgers are just a few crowd favorites. The lively atmosphere makes it a perfect place to meet friends or enjoy a casual night out. There's a good balance between local vendors and specialty eateries offering fresh, flavorful dishes. The market also features some great bars and outdoor seating areas which add to its social vibe. A few practical tips: avoid going too early as some stalls may still be setting up, and expect a busy but fun experience. Overall, Tooting Market has evolved into a trendy, community-focused destination that’s well worth a visit for food lovers and social butterflies alike.

There aren't many shops to visit, it's more about the food. But the fact that it's indoors is good for rainy weather. The flavors aren't bad.

Used to be cheap and cheerful but unique with laid back unpretentious vibe. No one tried too hard. Now it’s just shabby. The restaurants were a mix now they’re really low quality with several empty units. Gone are benches replaced with cheap plastic chairs and tables. And the toilets are now 50p to use, but they’re broken and still filthy.

Such a good market, it was my first visit and I was pleasant surprised. So many food stalls to choose from. I tried few and food was amazing. Inside there are tables to sit and many have their own seating areas. Butcher and other craft shops you can also find. Fruits and veggies with very good choice and reasonable prices. Place it’s busy and popular amongst the locals. It is located very close to Tooting Broadway station. I recommend this place 👍

I use to live in Tooting in 1984-1986 I did not like it very much then, except for the market which I loved. 10 mins walk from Saint George's Hospital Tooting market maintains its original stores for example the pet shop, the 🍓 fruit and veg market etc. it still very much the same, unlike Brixton market that seems to have become more upmarket. I hope that the Market doesn't change drastically.

I love the variety of restaurants, the vibe and the people. Two stars lost for the derelict broken stinking toilet ‘facilities’. It looks dangerous and completely lets down the hard work put in by the restaurants in the market.

Yelp
Tooting Market is possibly the poorest, most underwelming market I've been to. The market is pretty small but there's nothing in the market that's really worth buying. With Spitalfields and Borough Market you can get a variety of food form fresh bread to on the spot sandwiches but this market is more like a fruit and veg / cheap little market selling cheapy food and goods, not really up-market and fancy. Very no frills. Even if you can't be bothered going all the way East or to the Southbank, Northcote Road Market (a very continental market) is close by. I'm not really sure what this really has to offer and I wouldn't trust the fruit and veg from here either, I'd give it a miss.

Yelp
I 'found' this over the weekend and I loved it, although I am reliably informed by my friend who used to live in Tooting (5 or so years ago) that it has changed. It does have a very Brixton Village feel to it that I imagine comes with the gentrification and higher rents in the area. There are some really great coffee and burger places inside as well as the usual fabric places, there is even a little pet store that sells fish and birds. There is the standard food stalls and fruit and veg places, always good to buy local produce and from small businesses. Best thing I found was this little shop that sells loads of comics and paints them on shoes and coaster and clocks, great place to pick up a gift or treat yourself (I mean the shoes were scary high heels but amazing). The shops I browsed in the staff were really friendly, happy to answer questions and let me wander through without buying. The market is also has a bar at one end, a place i definitely want to check out next time. My only regret is I wandered through the market after lunch and finishing my shopping so this time I just browsed.

Yelp
This is one of the most authentic and down to earth markets I have ever been to in London! If you want a slice of South London, look no further, it's all here in Tooting market. I wandered through the plastic flowers, reggie music shops, sari fabric stalls, toys that don't meet EU standards, dodgy bags, henna hair dye and weave in a selection of fabulous colours. It's great to mooch around, buy household essentials, cheap summer clothes or even have your nails done! Its for locals, so don't expect glamour, expect friendliness. I bought some lovely plastic flowers and the lovely gent said I smiled so much he gave me another bunch for free! You can't beat that for customer service! It's one to go with a friend to have a mooch and browse away. Don't judge a book by its cover. this really is a fabulous gem of a market.

Yelp
The stall holders are generally helpful, but the bars are a pain. Occasionally there is fighting and angry men swearing which is scary. Recently there was a police raid. In the summer months people were littering and creating a nuisance. If they got rid of the bars, it would be better. I would prefer cafes in the evenings, with no alcohol served, and perhaps some interesting non alcohol related even events would be nice. There isn't much social distancing at all.

Yelp
Cheap and cheerful with some great bargains for food, fabric, clothes, shoes and household items. Also has some great cheap beauty services such as haircuts and manicures. Particularly good for exotic foods and fabrics.

Yelp
This has been around for years. You can buy dresses to fresh fish a budgie to shoes. The fish and meat stalls have been there for over 30 years

Yelp
Tooting Market is a great place to buy fresh fruit, cheap clothes with great quality and even get your hair and nails done! The market harbours a welcoming and buzzing vibe whilst shopping. There's also a sweetcorn stand outside the entrance, selling sweet, fresh, hot corn in a pot for a reasonable price. Also, there's a Chinese Takeaway stand beside it selling hot, delicious Chinese food. It's a great place to shop and I'd happily return to buy my fruit and veg on a regular basis!

Yelp
If you're feeling like a change from the usual grocery shopping at your local supermarket, this is a brilliant alternative for something different. Most of the produce on display is of foreign origin, mainly African and Caribbean influences are to be found. All the shopkeepers are friendly and more then happy to give a hand if you find a mysterious vegetable and want to know how the hell to cook it. There's also a great butcher and fishmonger, offering their wares at much cheaper prices then you'll usually find at Tescos, and the cuts are excellent. And everything is indoors so you don't have to suffer if its a particularly rainy and windy day.

Yelp
Prefer buying fish, meat, fruits and vegetables from the market rather than some supermarkets where most things had been frozen. I am happy there is still markets like this one. They remind me my childhood when all the food was quality. Recommended market! Best point about the markets: everything there is much cheaper than anywhere else!

Yelp
Tooting market is a great place to do your fruit and veg shopping. Along Tooting High Street are stalls burgeoning with colourful fruit and veg selling all your usual things plus exotic Asian specialties. Prices are definitely cheaper than your local Tesco too! While you are here I would recommend popping into one of the many great and reasonably priced curry houses which line this road.

Yelp
worst market ever especially the unit called 'Deep Textiles Bed Linen'!! he told me if the sofa cover doesn't fit i can come back and exchange it. and when i came back because it didn't fit he told me to pay more, not just 5 pounds! i should pay 20 pounds extra for the same product! he wasn't even ready to give me my money back even though he said nothing about a no refund policy! i still havent received my money back and he kept the sofa cover i bought!
