The 15 Best Restaurants & Bars In Ojai

" If you’re into craft beer, you might already know about Topa Topa Brewing Company. Started in Ventura, the popular brewery now has four locations along the central coast. The taproom in Ojai is a great spot for gathering everyone you like in one place—especially when you just want drinks and a light bite. There are over 15 drafts on tap at the bar, plus a takeout restaurant called Little Sama that serves modern Indonesian food from a small window inside. When it’s warm out, grab a seat on the patio out front and take in the views of the Topa Topa Mountains towering over Ojai Avenue. " - nikko duren

Google
Very delicious burger and bowl. The beer was super tasty and you get a huge variety of different flavors and styles. We have enjoyed a hazy and Indian pale ale. Great experience and friendly atmosphere. Thanks a lot for the experience!

Google
My fave Brewery of all time. Tasters are always there, and the vibe is awesome 😎

Google
Excellent brewery, it must-visit not only if you’re passing by, but even if you were remotely close-come by for a great selection of beers and awesome snacks

Google
Beer is great but food is ALSO GREAT! I stopped here for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed myself! The service was so friendly and quick and the food was delicious. I got the rice bowl with lemongrass beef and friend mushrooms. It was a little spicy, and so tasty that didn't have to add anything! I'll definitely be going back. I took home a 6-pack of Chief Peak and am drinking it now!

There is not a single menu anywhere online to show the prices of anything other than the beers themselves. They have tons of other food here, but it’s probably SO EXPENSIVE that they hide the menu and force people to come to the actual restaurant. Additionally, they don’t answer the phone AND you can’t leave a voicemail. I will not be coming here to eat, because I have no respect for a place that can’t even post their menu ANYWHERE ONLINE. And how can you neither answer the phone NOR accept voicemails? “Good Vibes” hahaha that’s just comedic material, straight up awful vibes and I’ll never be coming here. Garbage, I bet the food is incredibly expensive too. Anyone who talks about maybe going here, I will tell them some made up awful story to MAKE SURE they never give you guys a single penny. Trash establishment

Google
Darn good beer in a nice location. The staff is friendly and serious about their beer. They have a couple of unusual but tasty and refreshing brews like Sanjon Splash Club Nitro Pineapple Sorbet Hazy IPA, Tiny Talk, and Casey's Kolsch that all worth a try. I haven't had a bad IPA from them yet, they all go down smooth. Chief Peak is always a go-to brew. You have to order your food separately at the Little Sama window and they'll deliver it to your table. My only real complaint is that the only seats are tall metal stools that get real uncomfortable real quickly. With my knees having my knees dangling is a painful experience anyway, a few normal height seats and tables would be appreciated. * This only applies to the booze side. I'm reviewing the food and food service under Little Sama's own listing.

Google
I stopped through with the wife to get a few beers just expecting your average local brewery: nothing great but somewhere to try something different. I was shocked by the fantastically well made beers, better quality that many higher end breweries. I loved there hazys but everything I had was true to form and super tasty. Also the servers were incredibly freindly and helpful. Awesome spot. Took two 4 packs to go, for a steal too!

Google
The water here tastes SO !!! good, I asked to buy a growler of it and they gave me a can!! I bought some of the sour and it was good but the water is 15/10.

Yelp
Best wings ever. The beers are rly rly good too but WOW those wings are so amazing. I'm still thinking about them one day later. FLAVOR ! Service was quick & efficient We ate our wings at the open patio and enjoyed some local ojai scenery lol. Nice experience if ur looking to get out of the city. I will be back very soon to try those wings again as well as the other Asian inspired menu items:)

Yelp
Really fun vibe! Very friendly staff. The single hop IPA is spot on. Their red ale was okay, but not outstanding. Didn't try the food, but the plates being served looked delicious. Cheers!

Yelp
We go here most weekends and LOVE IT! Thorin and Elyse are the people that we see most often, and we truly adore them! But, all the people working here are fantastic! The beer and seltzer are great! Little Sama has some amazing food! Everything is so flavorful. The people working in Little Sama are also great! We've tried a couple different Topa locations and they're also great. But, the Ojai location is perfect for what we like...which is people watching!

Yelp
Really goods wings ideally located, always busy which gives good vibes and the heated terrasse is a big +

Yelp
I'm giving this place a four because I'd give the beer and ambience a 5 but the food a 3. Food - we tried the lemongrass bowl (yum! Lots of fun flavor punches but wish the bowl was bigger for the price :(). Same feeling for the wings, there wasn't much meat on them. The pickle plate and taters were fine but some of it felt overpriced. Beer - amazing! Fun! Lots of variety! Tried the flight and would have gotten another one if we didn't have other plans that day because there were so many more I wanted to try; it was hard just picking four! Overall, would come back just for the beer next time!

Yelp
This is a trendy spot to get together with friends and a good spot to people watch all the Ojai visitors. It's a nice open floor plan with a good selection of beers. Then you can catch some eats at Sama sama kitchen which is located inside. It's an order and then sit kind of place with a limited menu and everything is on the Vietnamese side of things or has some sort of spicy kick to it. It was VERY busy when we showed up on a Friday at 1pm but we got a table right away fortunately. And the service was right there to take out plates when we finished because they need to make room for more people. The decor was great and this place is VERY dog friendly.

Yelp
Topa Topa is certainly buzzing! Lively atmosphere, laid back music, cool vibe, and most important, darn good food. I had the Japanese Rice Bowl with Lemongrass Beef and it was full of complex flavors blending harmoniously. There's a sweet savoriness to the beef that compliments with the pickled veggies, marinated egg and furikake. The honey Sriracha aioli brings it all together. The rest of the menu look very appetizing, so I'd definitely come back for more!

Yelp
Stopped by for a some lunch and a drink on a Thursday afternoon and it was not too crowded. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We ordered a flight of beer and though they were all good, our favorite was the Spectro Hazy. The food was pretty good also. We ordered the pork katsu sandwich and overall it was tasty. The coleslaw was creamy and acidic which paired well with the katsu. The assorted pickles though were fantastic. Very good balance of acid and sweetness.

Yelp
Perfect way to spend an afternoon. Enjoyed watching the passers by especially the dogs.

Yelp
It sucks when you want to like a place you've been to and give them 5 STARS...! However, the bartenders are rude and do not appreciate your business. The dark haired one of the two, (see picture) doesn't acknowledge you with a warm welcome, in fact no welcome. She also did not thank at any point or a smile on her face. Isn't this a service job??? The blonde one not any better. I asked for water...she gave me an attitude and later I realized the water station is at the end of the bar. I would have been totally ok with getting my own water, minus the attitude! So, if you're the owner and reading this. You should be concerned how your employees are running your business!

Yelp
I've passed by Topa Topa a lot on my weekend trips but avoided it because of the heavy crowds and saw that Topa Topa wasn't from Ojai; not that it was a deal breaker but I wanted to go straight to the source. However, I saw a listicle saying that Topa Topa should be a stop while in Ojai and since I was on a rare weekday visit and saw how quiet it was I got a seat outside right away. During my visit there was a lot of IPAs on tap but wasn't on a big IPA kick that day. I saw a kettle sour on tap and got it, which was pretty good, a sweet/tart which made it a good choice for day drinking. I ended up getting a few more beers while I sat out on their patio. The other beer that stood out was their stout, which is usually something I enjoy in colder weather but theirs was sweet and easy drinking.

Yelp
Been waiting to come to Topa Topa in person! Over all 4.8 out of 5! The Ojai location is just stunning with all the natural, relaxed pace of the town. All the beers here are pretty great. The environment was really relaxed and fun (came on a random Wednesday afternoon). Service was quick, fun, and all the employees really knew their stuff. Also, patient I might add: nothing is more frustrating than when you come to a brewery or bar and the bar tenders think they're better than you because they work there. Definitely NOT the case here! This would be a fantastic place to come for an afternoon or evening beer. The space is open and offers indoor seating and outdoor seating with partial covering. If you're not a beer drinker, they also do offer wine, as well as a rotating seltzer and kombucha options. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Pickle plate is huuuge - but get it with something else too. Please try the June shine on tap if you love hard kombucha!
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Awesome hang out spot in the heart of oija. Bring your own board games if you want. They have a delicious food spot located inside. The beer here is fine and fresh. Juneshine was yummy. Build your own flight :)
google avatar

Vivian Q.

Yelp
Loved this spot - plenty of tables both indoors and outdoors, I also appreciated the clear descriptions of beverages on their menu with plenty of options. Great spot to stop for a drink and relax on a sunny Ojai afternoon, place was always bustling whenever we passed by! (Their food partner Little Sama was also delicious, reviewed separately)
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
Kombucha... yes! I really liked the vibe here. We sat outside and people watched. It was a nice sunny day! Customer service was awesome and friendly!

Yelp
Will forever be a Topa Topa customer of all locations, but lately I've been loving this location over the rest! The fact that they have a restaurant built into the location is a hugggggeee plus (try the tater tots!!) It's in a great area in Ojai where you have the choice to sit inside or outside (great for people watching). All of the tenders there are extremely friendly and outgoing, and ever since Elise has been up at the Ojai location, it's just that much more welcoming! If you're in the area it is an absolute must!
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Topa Topa had amazing customer service with delicious beers on tap. They rotate their beers out. They let you sample the beers which is awesome. They also have taster glasses which is a size down from their pints. Overall, they've got a great atmosphere. There's also Sama Sama next door and they serve food which you can have brought to the bar.
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
Great place to spend a hot day. The staff is super down to earth and helpful, and the food is great. We had the brussel sprouts which were nice and flavorful with a nice kick. I really appreciated the burgers because they were simple and not overwhelmed by a suprr thick bun.
google avatar

Judith C.

Yelp
I've been here twice so far and it's always been a fun time. Vibes are chill without being loud and overcrowded. It's always great to sit here when it's a nice day out and they open up the garage-style doors. Seating wise, there's a couple of small 2-3 tables, with a few bigger tables for groups of 6-7 people. There are a couple of outdoor seating as well. The service is friendly. There's also Little Sama located in the same area, and it's great to order some food to enjoy with the beer. Beers: I've tried the Hazy IPA and the Light Hike Kolsch-Style Ale, both of which I highly recommend. I don't like IPAs that are too hoppy and bitter and the Hazy IPA hit the perfect balance. I'll leave my food recs for my review for Little Sama, but to keep it short, you can't really go wrong. Parking can be a bit hard to find but I just found street parking one time. The second time, I biked the Ventura to Ojai trail and had a very satisfying lunch here.
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
Fantastic must visit. This is a bit of a cheat review because it's influence by the restaurant within the brewery. Either way, topa has a great beer line up, really good service, and is right on the main drag. Great brewery ambiance with a couple cozy nooks as well as nice outdoor sitting. The food you can order is fantastic as well. Combined, Topa is a must stop for a great beer, welcoming service, awesome food, and great location. Don't miss this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Going on a Friday night is a must! They have live music and it just adds to the overall good vibe. Great beer and delicious side snacks (LOVE that they offer food too cause not all locations do). If you get food, the tater tots are my recommendation!

Amanda R.

Yelp
Great beers, Friendly staff! We will be back. Food is delicious also. Chill vibe which was perfect!

Mikaela D.

Yelp
Frothy brews and wonderful staff. Alyse, Meghan and Thoren are always providing great vibes, knowledge and service.
google avatar

Jay Y.

Yelp
Great local brewery with good customer service and chill vibes. Would be nice to add a pool table or something, but i get that the seating areas are kind of small. Overall a cool spot to hangout and grab a beer.

Adi L.

Yelp
Worst service ever by the manager it self and the food is not that good. Not recommended!

Andree U.

Yelp
If I could remove stars I would. We unknowingly brought food from a restaurant near it and one of the employees approached us and instead of informing us about their policy, began to insult us on how they knew we'd complain about their policy and were going to ask us to leave if we continued eating our food. Keep in mind we hadn't said a word and were pleasant through the entire interaction. My wife had to stop them and inform them we understood and weren't saying a word because we didn't know and left... Me bringing my one sandwich was fairly detrimental to their lucrative business....
google avatar

Yelp
Topa Topa Brewing Company was a spot that I was really excited to check out on our recent trip to Ojai. I had tried a couple of their beers on various occasions (Chief Peak IPA!), but I hadn't been to one of their locations before. This one seems to be pretty popular (at least when we went), and somewhat small, so finding a table was definitely challenging. While our time here was short, it was memorable. To drink, I ordered the Spectro Hazy. The beer was satisfying, and the vibes were great. If you're in the area, this place is certainly worth stopping in at.
google avatar

Joy J.

Yelp
It's nice location. They have their large windows and doors open so it makes for a nice breeze and open-feeling space. They have partnered with a restaurant that sells bomb food. Beer is great. Wine is just okay.

Yelp
Cool beer tasting room on a street with lots of cute shops and restaurants! You order your beer at the counter and sit wherever you like! They share a space with Sama Sama, which is a really good Asian fusion restaurant. I like blonde beers, so I was recommended the Light Hike, which is a Kolsh Style Ale with honey and floral notes! It was really refreshing on the hot summer day! There is plenty of street parking around!
google avatar

Yelp
Roda to Ojai on the bike path from Ventura. Was nice to hang out here and take a needed break. These guys make great IPAs & Pale Ales.

Yelp
Stupid place . They limit what you drink. 4 beers deep and they say I'm done. Left them with a nice tip too . Lameeee. What fucking liability if I'm walking home ..
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
I really liked the ambiance of this brewery and enjoyed the employees. They were super friendly and communicative. Tried the juicy IPA and it was delicious. It paired perfectly with the finger foods from the restaurant in the same building. Really liked their merch and bought a cool long sleeve t shirt to take home with me. Will make sure to stop back in if I'm ever in the area again!
google avatar

Yelp
If you like lagers, the best one you will have is the KQ Express!! Although this hoppy rice lager was poured out of a can, it was excellent!! It was quite busy on a Sunday night of a long weekend. It won't be easy to find a spot to sit! I loved the laid back vibe and the staff was very friendly by coming by our table to ask how we liked our beer. You can also get a flight of four different beers to try different kinds instead of a traditional pint. Chief Peak was a good IPA but not crazy amazing. This is a must go spot at the end of a day in Ojai! Cheers!
google avatar

Marc S.

Yelp
Great service. Nice selection of beers. Chief Peak IPA and Level Line Pale Ale - very good.
google avatar

Jenny D.

Yelp
Super beer, good food from the integrated Sama Sama restaurant. There were about 10 beers on tap. We were there early and there were many families, some with children, enjoying the beer & food. The loaded tots with Asian sauces & green onions were a surprise -- delicious!! The patio was cold but the heaters were nice. I wore a down jacket and was comfortable. Dog friendly patio (see photo). Would definitely return.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
The staff is amazing. Their knowledge of what is on tap is great. Don't know what you want. They will walk you through it. Good prices and great outdoor seating. Very open atmosphere love the ambiance
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
Great beers, awesome patio good for people watching, and tasty snacks from Sama Sama made for a perfect mid day stop. I was presently surprised by the wide beer selection and their friendly service pointed me in the right direction to try some really good hoppy options. Make sure to get there early as it was very busy as the sun went down.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Great place! Lovely interiors. Sama Sama is inside as well for good bar food like wing & tots. Good beer with other options like June shine and seltzer.
google avatar

Franklin M.

Yelp
We rode are bicycles from Ventura to Ojai on the 15 miles bike path. The first thing on my mind was to go get a beer at this brewery. It's Sunday and it's Memorial weekend so it was packed and I had to go on a waitlist to enter. Once inside I walked up to the bar and picked out an IPA and sat out in my patio table. The beer was great and the staff are very friendly and helpful for even though they're busy here.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Friendly bartenders, good variety of beers and kombucha on tap. We got a flight of beer plus one kombucha taster - beer was decent except for the moo-bae (some ube flavored beer) which my boyfriend and I both agreed was not great. Kombucha was excellent though! For food options, there is a restaurant inside the brewery called Sama Sama which had some delicious Asian fusion food. The space was cool with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
Love this place! Good beer. Cool vibes and always friendly staff. Usually has some sort of event and food truck.
google avatar

Lissa G.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor seating area that is appropriately socially distanced during COVID. You can order snacks from them or from Sama Sama. Service was friendly, the lager I ordered was good (not a huge beer person, so you'll have to check out Jim G.'s review for that), checking out downtown Ojai while enjoying our afternoon was lovely. This is a nice place on a prominent corner. So glad we stopped by!
google avatar

Marco R.

Yelp
Love the vegan options. The place is very simple and pub style, you're not getting any frills here. The tables and chairs are really uncomfortable and annoying to sit on for long. The super open environment is chilly and a nuisance on windy days. But, if you're only there to grab one of the many many beers on tap, you're in luck. You'll love the place. The food service is kind of weird, you order at a window and serve yourself. No waitress service. Order, take a number, wait for number to be called, grab your food at the window, sit on the hard chairs. I'd order some food and beers again but it's not a place you want to linger.
google avatar

Raechel I.

Yelp
Stopped at Topa Topa with some friends who really enjoy their beer. We waiting about 30 mins for a table, but with COVID they were taking precautions. The local is prime time. Unfortunately, the food was lacking. My partner and I shared the Bulgogi bowl and the soup. We both felt like the food was lacking. The noodles were over done and chewy, the broth was not umami flavor. I sent the food back and explained the strange texture and flavors. The chef apologized and comped the meal. I would like to give this place another shot.
google avatar

Ess S.

Yelp
Our first time having Topa Topas / Sama Sama and it did not disappoint. I had the kids rice bowl and added fried chicken and a fried egg. So good! The chicken was fried perfectly, the egg was cooked perfectly, for me and the rice texture was great. I also had a couple of tater tots which were baked to crispy perfection. If you don't like an overly butter beer I'd also recommend their Spector IPA. It was really smooth and so yummy that I ended up buying a 6-pack to take back home.

Yelp
This is our family's first time visiting Ojai and were impressed by all the restaurants this little strip of town has got to offer. But we stumbled upon this place out of all - Inside this brewing company is a very great little restaurant that serves a wonderful variety of food! Which can be perfectly paired with the homebrewed menu at the bar! These are a few items on the menu that are worth the try if you're coming here for the first time, that could be a great starter and leave great impressions for the second visit! #1. Okonomiyaki tots: These are tater tots drizzled with the classic takoyaki mayo and ell sauce, topped with pickled red onions, thin onion flakes and scallions. #2. Wok Fried tofu bibimbap: this is a wonderful alternative for the typical bibimbaps for those that are looking for a no-meat option. The wok fried tofu are incredibly crunchy and added a lot flavor to the bowl, grouped with kimchi, blanched mushrooms, pickled cabbage and you can't forget the gochujang sauce on top. #3. Pulled pork sandwich (I forgot the full name): the only way I know how to describe this dish is juicy and well-marinated pulled pork pieces sandwiched between a pair of sesame baguettes with a side of shrimp cracker. I think the photo will do it more justice! As much as I love Ojai and its scenery, it seemed like the people here (tourists or residents) didn't care much about COVID-19 safety measures... unfortunately, it is semi-safe to say that the only people that wore masks were the restaurant and retail workers. This is the only down side of it.
