Best Restaurants to Try Near Lake Mead National Recreation Area | Eater Vegas

"Located just off Northshore Road on the way from Las Vegas to Valley of Fire State Park, Callville Bay is beloved by those who rent houseboats as well as those who hike the nearby trails in search of bighorn sheep. Both groups — along with anyone else who spends a day by the water or a night at the RV park — can enjoy breakfast or lunch at Callville Bay’s Topside Gift Shop and Grill. The menu is simple (think eggs and bacon for breakfast, burgers and hot dogs for lunch) and family friendly. On first glance, the restaurant, which is divided into a small dining area and a bar, is simple too, but floor to ceiling windows reveal expansive lake views. Topside Grill is closed seasonally from October through April." - Krista Diamond

Google
I’ve been to Topside Grill a few times now, and it’s become one of my go-to spots. The food is consistently on point! they have such a wide variety of options, so there's always something new to try. The service is always top-notch. The staff is attentive, patient, and genuinely friendly, which really adds to the overall dining experience. You can tell they care about making your visit enjoyable. If the weather’s nice, I definitely recommend dining on the rooftop—the views are stunning. But even inside, the ambiance is great, so no matter where you sit, you're in for a pleasant time. It does get pretty busy, so if you're planning to go during peak times, it's a good idea to make a reservation or be prepared to wait. But honestly, it’s worth it every time. Definitely a place worth checking out!

Google
What a surprise! We came here for the first time only knowing Google map reviews is decent. But it's definitely more than 4.4 stars for us! I ordered a spicy fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious! The fries was on point and seasoned well, fried chicken was crunchy, went well with pickled cucumber and onion. It was delicious. Our friend ordered a burger, came in toast and he said it was done well. Husband ordered a simple meal, salad, clam chowder and garlic toast and loved it. I, of course, tasted the chowder😁 love the rosemary. And also have to mention how great the service was!!! With the beautiful waterview, great atmosphere and delicious food, we will definitely be back very soon!

Google
Topside Bar & Grill offers an experience where the stunning views are undoubtedly the star. While the panoramic scenery from its rooftop deck is amazing, the culinary offerings are mediocre at best, and the service falls below expectations. Despite these shortcomings in food and service, the breathtaking setting in Steilacoom often makes for a memorable visit, especially if you're prioritizing ambiance over a gourmet meal.

Google
Great view and wonderful service. We had the BBQ nachos that are gluten free and my husband had the charizo tacos from the brunch menu. The hot honey peach margaritas were for dessert. Delicious 😋 We highly recommend it.

Google
Amazing little bar and grill! My mom came to visit so I wanted to show her around and see the water. This restaurant had an amazing view. The food was amazing. Everything tasted good and the menu had a good variety. Service was super friendly and fast. We even got a little sample plate free of yummy goodies. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a nice, relaxing time with really good food with a view. I got the fish and chips which were amazing. My child got a hamburger. My mom, who is Keto, also got a hamburger. Everyone loved it. Will be coming back!

Google
Eric AkaERock recommended the local IPA for an out of towner. Double Mountain HopLion brew was excellent! Add to the appetizer and meals for 4 of us! 10 Stars!

Google
My husband and I go to Topside weekly for a great meal, regardless if it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner! We frequently invite friends and usually sit in the bar. Every dish we've had has been really good and beautifully presented. Fresh ingredients, lots of flavor, great food combinations. My go to for breakfast is the eggs benedict, although I had the sunrise breakfast last time and it was perfect. My husband gets the French toast. I LOVE their salmon and spinach salad and clam chowder as well. The nachos and fish and chips are always great options! Service can be a bit slow when they are busy but the servers are always friendly and the food has always been spot on! Good variety of beer and the pineapple mimosa for brunch is a nice option!

Google
Just had the Carne Asada Benedict, I will never look at another Benedict the same! The Golden Potato & Cheese Croquettes were SO good with that runny poached egg. I love mashed potatoes, English Muffins, cheese & eggs, but as a croquette & poached egg was just a 😘 of delight. The tomato avocado yum. Not sure an English Muffin will be wanted again. It was a great morning with a friend & a new brunch experience that I’ll crave again. Thank you

Yelp
I always try to stop in at Topside when in town. Being from Steilacoom, it's fun to have a "go to" spot that is actually good. The service is great, seems everyone is always in a good mood, and the food is pretty darn good. Last time we came in, we had the baked avocado and calamari - which was delicious! The presentation was fun with an octopus drawn out of the sauce and it distracted me from mentally thinking the sticks were fried mozzarella. Don't be deceived by the shape - it's good! If you have the pleasure of finding yourself in Steilacoom with time for a meal, give this place a shot.
google avatar

Yelp
Food - it was ok. Need work on presentation and giving texture, a little romance to the plate would do wonder. All the ingredients are all there! Service - was a little slow. Drinks is revenue driver, reserve a dedicated server on drinks to bring in the View - the best part of the whole experience! I would go here primed and order just one drink to enjoy alongside the view

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but the food was not my fave in my opinion. We both ordered from the handhelds section of the menu and both the chicken sandwich and burger where way overcooked. I felt like sauce, mayo, or tomatoes for the chicken sandwich could of made it better as well. I really appreciated the service from our server and enjoyed the view from the roof top! I could see myself returning for drinks and enjoying the waterfront!
google avatar

Debra B.

Yelp
Food is good, service is attentive, and the view from the patio is beautiful. Good selection of beers. Unfortunately when we went back this afternoon to eat, the prices made us choke! $20 for burgers and up charge of $3 for a salad or soup instead of fries. Once we were seated and saw the current menu, we had to get up and leave. I'm just sorry to see the prices increase so drastically since our last visit. We were on a long trip and gone for 7 months, so it was disappointing to realize we can no longer afford to eat at Topside on our retirement budget.

Yelp
The service was the best part and the waitress was very helpful and kind. The ambiance was great and had a nice view of the ferry docking and the beach. The food on the other hand was very middle of the road. We had the calamari to start and the chicken sandwich and fish and chips. All the food had very little flavor. Probably won't be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was outstanding. Well cooked Cod fish n' chips ($25). I had the ice tea and it was great ($3.50). We did have the lemonade and also the blackberry tea, wasn't a fan. ($8) Wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. But started to pick up. Servers were very busy and had to ask for waters and refills. Overall it's a great place to sit and relax outside and enjoy the waterfront view. Great place to have breakfast lunch or dinner.

Yelp
A friend recommended the fish(haddock) and chips,so following a great experience at another eatery I thought, let's see who has the best.It was a pleasant day,so the deck was very popular.Lovely view.We ate indoors,in a comfortable atmosphere, some piped in music wasn't too loud.Staff were friendly and attentive. My fish n chips were extremely good. One nice sized filets and tasty fries.Definitely some of the best fish I've tasted. Also ordered was the salmon burger. No complaints whatsoever.Lovely flavour and moist. Can well imagine that during the summer,or any decent warm day, this bar and grill is jumping. They also have a coffee shop at street level.Glad we stopped by.

Yelp
Tried to add Topside's Anchor Room as a separate establishment, but it didn't work. This is a review for the Anchor Room and not Topside Bar and Grill. The Anchor Room is tucked away across the breezeway from the coffee shop. We were quickly greeted. We sat on a sofa facing the windows with a view of the water. They told us that they have recently implemented the HH menu from the bar and grill, but they also have their own menu. On Sundays there is no corking fee, so definitely a better deal than single pour unless you are wanting a variety. They have events and wine tastings occasionally. Can't wait to check one out sometime. We got a pork belly sandwich and curry skewers. The food was okay. Hoping that next time it will be a little better. The space is cute and the vibe is chill. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Our daughter works near by and suggested we meet here for lunch. Great recommendation!! Our server Marlee was super friendly and we were able to be seated promptly. Glad we arrived around opening at 11am. The place is very popular and filled up fast. There may be a slight wait if you arrive around noon. We all had salads and were pleased with the size and quality. Seeing as we were "good", we had dessert which was a blackberry/ice cream thing. It was just the right finish that we 3 shared. We'll be back, especially when the weather warms and outside/deck seating is available again.

Jim W.

Yelp
If you can dine outside on the deck, the view of the Sound is FANTASTIC! The menu seemed to be too gourmet for my tastes, and a little high- priced. But yes, the VIEW. The wait staff was very pleasant.
google avatar

LeaDan Y.

Yelp
Regardless of the time of year or weather, you're going first for the rooftop view. Even if it's cold and they seat you inside, it's worth it to step outside and just take it in. Even the fog covered Sound takes on a certain ominous mystic from here. It can be surprisingly busy even on a week night and they don't take reservations so plan ahead. We didn't have to wait at all for a seat but the better ones are near the windows, unless you're just heading to the bar. The lighting above the tables were so bright that I almost got a migraine. It's just so much darker in Washington for such a long time in the year, that bright lights become almost blinding. This small restaurant was fairly full, like I mentioned, on a week night so they seemed to have only 3 people working the floor - host, wait staff, and bartender, who also met people at tables in the bar area - and they all seemed to be confidently fulfilling their responsibilities. Our waitress forgot a couple of things but the hostess was nearby to take care of the team. I only gave them 4 stars because my husband was up that night puking his gutts out and, while we don't have direct evidence, we're pretty sure it was from the burger he ate. I had the clams, which we all agreed were amazing. And our kiddo had the pizza, which they also ate for leftovers the next day. Would still return to this restaurant, we'd probably just stay away from the burgers.

Yelp
The views are amazing. The fish and chips are top tier! I've also heard their salmon burger is amazing. I had a great server who was really friendly. She let me try a couple beers because I was indecisive. I appreciated the patience and the great customer service.

Breanna V.

Yelp
Very friendly and attentive staff. Bartender even made my dad a signature off the menu adult apple cider. So good! Mac n cheese was very creamy. Restaurant was clean and bright. Next time we are in the area I will be bringing the rest of the family for sure.

Yelp
Incredible local bar with mass appeal. Cozy quaint and great for date night, families, or friends. The food is high quality and borders on gourmet with an easy pub feel. The prime rib sandwich (special) is absolutely amazing!! The Bloody Mary is a hidden gem. Fish sandwich (Haddock) on happy hour is great. Clam chowder is its own unique recipe. There is ample parking and the service is incredible. This is a must try.
google avatar

Jm P.

Yelp
Good food, friendly service, and a view of the sunset! Only drawback is the wait time if you want to sit outside because the view is so good.
google avatar

Olystacy B.

Yelp
The food is very good. The service? Not so much. We stopped in for dinner and it was not real busy but the service was terrible, none the less. We were sat at a table and were not contacted again for 15 minutes. A server walked over and asked if we had been helped. When we responded that we hadn't she said with minor annoyance in her voice, "well, I guess I'll take care of you then". It was a lackluster way to start our dinner. No apologies for making us wait and certainly not a welcoming experience. Why would they not have assigned sections? We were really craving clam chowder... but they were out. At 5pm on a Sunday. We received our food about 25 minutes later, which was delicious. I loved that their dressings and sauces are all very tasty as if made in house. Portions were decent for the price point. We sat with empty drink glasses until I got up and asked for a refill since no one came by to check on us or refill our drinks half way through our meal. We saw our server chatting behind the bar not paying attention to her tables. Overall, we were disappointed. We don't eat out a ton anymore because it is so expensive so when we do go out, we expect reasonable decent service since that is what we are paying for when we choose to go to a restaurant. Not sure we will be back, based on the service.

Yelp
I had a pleasant Sunday here with family. The views were immaculate and the salmon burger was really good!

Tracy H.

Yelp
I have had the pleasure of visiting this bar and grill several times, tonight was a disappointing attempt to revisit the great experiences from before. From the bar tender who angrily snapped at my disabled partner within a minute of entering the foyer, to being ignored for over 10 minutes after our arrival. Once seated on the deck, we waited another 15 minutes for drinks and our appetizers were still being worked on on the kitchen after an hour of waiting while other patrons were served full dinners. It's too bad because the owner has always been super cool, the staff is not doing a great job of representing that stellar custom service I have become accustomed to.
google avatar

Brittany H.

Yelp
Go downstairs to the Anchor Room which is a fun wine bar/lounge. Such a cool experience with wonderful staff.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Came here the last two hours they were open. This place has an absolutely beautiful view. Despite all the reviews, I ordered the fish and chips. It was 5/5 stars. Bartender was great and service was on point. My only complaint is they should be open later (even just an hour to watch the sunset).
google avatar

Hayleigh L.

Yelp
Super cute rooftop restaurant with a great view of the water. The food is always delicious! Great fish & chips with a really good tartar sauce. Service is always good. Love the calamari strips for an app. They also have great bbq pork nachos too!
google avatar

Sara P.

Yelp
3.5 for my review. Had a nice brunch here after walking around Chambers Bay. I got the Bloody Mary to start. It has a lot of horseradish so be warned. To be fair I was warned by our server that their homemade mix has a lot of horseradish. I wish places would make them by hand so they would be more customizable. I got the salmon BLT which was good. It is served open face on sourdough. The bacon slices were thick and my poached egg was cooked perfect, but the salmon was overcooked and hard to eat. Service was pretty slow even though it wasn't very busy. We couldn't find our server for a very long time. My friend had to wait halfway through her meal for her toast and that was after we asked the hostess to find our server. The views from the outside deck will be very nice in the summer. I will try this again and hope that service will be better. The coffee shop/bakery on the first floor is worth a stop. Loved my cookie and scone.

Yelp
This place is fun! Great views and excellent food. Looking forward to another visit. Bartender gave excellent service.
google avatar

Marilyn H.

Yelp
This is just a gem of a restaurant with great staff, yummy food, an incredible view and it won't break the bank to dine there. Our server Eric was just the best.
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
Loved the view from the outdoor patio, especially since the sun was setting! Service was great, our waiter would come check up on us every once in a while to see if everything was tasting good. I really enjoyed the SDR salmon burger. They use wild salmon and it was perfectly spiced and grilled. I would definitely order it again. I subbed clam chowder ($5 charge instead of the fries) and the clam chowder wasn't good in my opinion. The clam chowder tasted more like a potato soup cause I didn't taste any of the clam. Next time I would just stick with the fries that the burger comes with
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
We love the location but miss their breakfast. It was the best. Wouldn't recommend the clam chowder, too chunky for my liking. Anyone remember having clam chowder from a can? This is it. I took my son and parents for lunch and they completely forgot my son's food, so they brought him fries as they made his burger. I just didn't like that we had our food and he was just sitting there. You had one job.

Sadie H.

Yelp
Yes, order the clams and if a nice day sit on the patio. The beers are good too. Lots of local options which I love. Loved this place!
google avatar

April G.

Yelp
*editing and taking it down a star because they stopped serving breakfast. Their new menu isn't as great, pretty basic. They do have a pepper bacon jam sandwich that is good, but now the menu is like any other place for lunch.
google avatar

Jenny A.

Yelp
Whenever we are in town we love stopping by Topside. Everything we have had has been fabulous and the sound view and atmosphere is great. The staff is always very friendly. This trip I had the fish and chips!

Lucy B.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch while we were in Steilacoom. Great atmosphere! They gave our kids complimentary snack plates with cheese cubes, crackers, and sliced smoked sausage. The spinach salmon salad was one of the best things I've ever eaten at a restaurant! Only giving 4 stars because the service was somewhat slow, but I'd still go back. Prices were somewhat high (my salad was $21ish?) but I guess that's today's economy for you!
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
The food and drinks were good. Service was excellent. And the view was outstanding. My husband had the salmon and I had a burger.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
Finally tried Topside after years of living in the area. It was a beautiful, clear day and we sat on the deck with a stunning view of the Olympics. We were lucky to get such a good table as they were rapidly running a wait after our noon arrival. They have a great selection of beer and a standard American fare lunch menu. The baked avocado was surprisingly hearty and delicious! And the mushroom burger and chicken wrap my friend got were good too. Easy enough to park, reasonable prices and good service topped off an overall great meal.
google avatar

Abby E.

Yelp
I've been here three times with totally different experiences each time. The first time the food was ok and the drinks were very good. It was raining so no spectacular view that day. The second time was during a Seahawks game. It was sooo much fun. The staff were so jubilant and helpful and interactive making our visit exceptional. Again, the food was good but, we've had better. The last time, and final, it was a gorgeous summer day with a small 10 minute wait. No worries. We got sat down under the umbrella outside facing the water. Gorgeous view. However, the food was not good but, somehow after only an appetizer and a couple drinks we spent over $70! Yeah. If the food was better quality I could understand but, at this point it isn't worth it. Next time, we'll try Boathouse 19 in University Place. I heard that place is amazing.
google avatar

Shelby N.

Yelp
Delicious fish n chips!! Service is amazing, everyone works really hard. Breath taking views on the deck for sunset

Nicole E.

Yelp
So glad to have a wine bar near my house! The ambiance was great, Rob was so friendly and welcoming and just doing a great job working 10+ tables. Great place to go for a date night and or catching up with friends. Looking out to the water was so relaxing. It's just perfect! Although I didn't buy a bottle on this particular sitting I can't wait to go back to get some, lots of options!
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
I had lunch on the rooftop, and the vibes were fantastic! We ordered the brisket mac and cheese, and it was incredible. I can't wait to return and try their brunch!
google avatar

Marcus C.

Yelp
Great view from the rooftop deck. Food is good as well and friendly staff. I've always had a good experience.
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere , fabulous attentive service and food was amazing ! From the homemade clam chowder to the fish and chips with house made tarter . The only downside was some stale oyster crackers that we didn't catch until already in soup . Will def be back in nice weather to sit on the rooftop patio !
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal last night. Not a big place (cozy feel) and we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Our server was wonderful and when we said we were sharing everything she actually plated all our dishes separately which was so nice. We sampled the ciders and had drink specials. We had the beet salad, cup of crab bisque and mushroom burger. Everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend and we will be going back. The new wine bar next door looks fantastic and we will be trying it out next.
google avatar

William W.

Yelp
Always a go to spot when i have friends and family visiting the PNW! The view of the sounds is amazing and the food is top notch!
google avatar

Shelley A.

Yelp
Love the view and in my hometown. Love love love ~ food is decent but can't beat the scenery. Service was great also
google avatar

C E.

Yelp
Food is good and the servers are kind. The wait time for food though has gotten crazy. It took our party an hour to get our food. Which I know totally can happen sometimes, but they didn't come out with one of our party member's food until we were all done eating and ready for the check. It was well over an hour at that point. It wasn't crazy busy and there wasn't even a wait so I'm not sure what happened.
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
Good fish and chips, burger was ok, the calamari was decent. Come for the view and great selection of beer. They were out of the chowder so didn't get to try that.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
The food is good. I enjoyed everything I ordered. The service really is just too slow. There are too many hostesses just standing around and I think one server for the whole place. It would be five stars if they had a well oiled machine and were more attentive.
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
Topside has been consistently very good. Occasionally it's been exceptional. The staff has been constantly friendly and attentive and the food is very good. The view is excellent. The biggest drawback is the wait and lack of a good place to be when waiting. Prices are reasonable. 5/5 for this type of restaurant. I have no qualms coming here each time I'm in town visiting family.
google avatar

Patrick Y.

Yelp
Bottom line: a wonderful find and place to dine in the heart of Steilacoom, Washington. In the summer, the outdoor patio is a great place to have your meal and enjoy the sun and the views of the sound. The meals are a definite plus and are delicious. It's definitely a high recommend when you are passing through these parts and I recommend their Fish an' Chips. (Pro-Tip: they currently do not take reservations and so if you have a large party- be sure to come in early to request your seats, especially if you want it outside).

E L.

Yelp
Very tasty food + great happy hour menu with great prices. The service is amazing. For example I accidentally left my laptop there and they took special care to make sure it would be returned to me including locking it in a safe. The restaurant has a terrific view of the water and mountains. All in all a great place to eat.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Awesome place! The Brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had. The service was a 10/10 and I even ordered the wrong thing. I told the waitress and the owner brought me a new burger with no issue. These people care about their business and it shows. We sat in the back room on a cloudy day overlooking the water with light jazz playing, beautiful ambiance. We will be back.

Yelp
Wow. What an experience! OVERALL: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Service: 1/5 for flow, but 4.5/5 for the personality & care Ambiance: 3.5/5 What to Order: Fish and Chips with your beer of choice First off, this would be a 3 star review if it weren't for the hard working staff that tips the scale. Genuinely, hats off to all you ladies working at Topside this summer! I came in for lunch with a large group that was split up among several tables. Right off the bat, I LOVED the patio view of the water and the friendly service. However, things felt a little too hectic for not even being a full house. We had 4 people at the table but over the course of our meal we had 3 servers. It was just really confusing. There's an interesting range of items on the menu but I went for the Mahi Mahi tacos. Solid choice but I wouldn't exactly order them again. My two cents to management: Please, I beg you, create a seating chart and place one server to the sections while keeping a bartender behind the bar. It will still be just as efficient because you have a GREAT staff on the floor & it will remarkably calm down the frantic energy during a rush.
