Dine Out Vancouver Festival has over 20 MICHELIN Restaurants Participating

"The main influences on the cooking at Torafuku come from countries like Korea, Japan and Taiwan, so it seems entirely apt that this restaurant is located close to, but not in Chinatown. The open kitchen is the focus of the understated room, which makes use of plenty of concrete for that ersatz-industrial look." - The MICHELIN Guide

Torafuku

"The main influences on the cooking at Torafuku come from countries like Korea, Japan and Taiwan, so it seems entirely apt that this restaurant is located close to, but not in Chinatown. Lunch is quick and easy and all about rice bowls featuring kakuni-style braised meats, but at dinner the kitchen’s more adventurous side comes out to play. This is when you’ll discover more European elements to the dishes, like tuna tataki with Niçoise salad or Brome Lake duck rillette; and if there’s a dish you simply must order it’s their wonderful Basque cheesecake. The open kitchen is the focus of the understated room, which makes use of plenty of concrete for that ersatz-industrial look. Those of a more sociable bent will enjoy the communal table." - Michelin Inspector

Unexpectedly good. A nice warm homey meal. The kale salad wasn’t that special but gets the fiber in. Beef noodle soup is definitely a highlight because the noodles tasted fresh and not too hard or overcooked. The beef was cooked to a good tenderness not too soft and not too hard. The soft boiled egg was perfectly jammy. The fried chicken in the crispy rice bowl was also amazing I think the crunch is very unique to this restaurant.

Be sure to make a reservation if you’re having dinner here as it can get busy. We came to Torafuku to celebrate and try out their summer tasting menu which was 7 courses shared between two people (4 appetizers, 2 mains, and 1 dessert). We also ordered the non-alcoholic pairing for an additional $18 and just chose which drinks we wanted to try out. Highlights: Appetizers: Wagyu - very beefy and the sauce was really paired well with the beef and the mushrooms. Scallop Crudo - the scallop was fresh and the sauce was slightly spicy but refreshing. Main: None unfortunately. They were lacking in taste compared to some of the appetizers. Dessert: Mille Feuille - we didn’t know what this was but we ordered it anyways. Simply exquisite and so fun to try out with the different types of cream in between the puff pastry. Drink: Tamarind Collins - different but in a good way. Refreshing and light and the tamarind taste is not overpowering. When we came around 6:30 pm on a Thursday, it was nearly empty but around 7:00 pm, more and more people came in. We spent around 2 hours enjoying the different courses and the conversations. Atmosphere was very relaxed and the service was attentive even though there was only really one server working the whole restaurant. For two people, it was over $200+ for the summer tasting menu and the 3 non-alcoholic drinks. Overall, it was a good experience but I wished that the mains were a bit more memorable.

Torafuku – 7 Course Omakase Experience (Vancouver BC – Father’s Day visit) We made a reservation at Torafuku on Father’s Day and the team was super welcoming. The vibe was laid back but still refined. Warm lighting, friendly service, and a creative tasting menu made it a great choice for the occasion. Here’s how the seven courses went down — each one brought its own little surprise. ⸻ Zucchini This starter was fresh and vibrant. You get zucchini salad with preserved lemon vinaigrette, crispy zucchini tempura, and a fluffy whipped lemon ricotta. It felt like the kind of dish that resets your palate and wakes you up in the best way. ⸻ Foie and Buns 👍👍 This was rich and playful. The foie gras and chicken liver parfait were creamy and smooth, served with a fruity compote and crushed hazelnuts on soft house made milk bread. A perfect sweet and savory bite that didn’t feel too heavy. ⸻ Scallop Crudo A really refreshing dish with thinly sliced Hokkaido scallop, compressed Asian pear, and a slightly tart rhubarb aguachile. Then they added elderflower orange ice crystals that melt and give you this cool floral note. Every bite had texture and temperature play going on. Really well done. ⸻ Wagyu👍👍👍 This was my favorite. The wagyu beef hanger had great flavor without being too fatty. The roasted morel mushroom and spicy truffle tare gave it that creamy earthy base, and the pickled onions cut through to keep things bright. What really made it pop was the slightly sweet naan bread. All those flavors layered together in one bite felt rich, fresh, and balanced. ⸻ Halibut The halibut was pan seared and tender. Served over summer greens with crispy radish and fingerling potatoes. What made it stand out was the green curry and salmon roe. It was a fusion of comfort and brightness that brought a whole different mood to the meal. ⸻ Cornish Game Hen This turmeric fried chicken had a lot going on in a good way. Smoky fermented chili sambal brought the heat while the cucumber and pandan coconut rice cooled it down. It was bold and homey — kind of like something you’d get from a family kitchen but elevated. ⸻ Sweet Tooth – Basque Cheesecake For dessert I chose the Basque cheesecake. It was smooth and mellow with a subtle char flavor and came with seasonal berry compote. Not too sweet or tart — just a creamy finish to round out the meal. ⸻ Drinks I ordered a smoky old fashioned (and maybe a second one) and it paired perfectly with everything. Not too strong, just enough to sip and enjoy between dishes. ⸻ Final thoughts Torafuku nails that sweet spot between fancy and fun. The seven course tasting is a great value at $75 per person. The flavours are creative, the portions are satisfying, and the whole experience feels thoughtful without being too formal. Perfect for a date night, a celebration, or just treating yourself. My only complaint is that I had to wait five minutes just to get my bill… they can use an extra staff for sure.

So good! Honestly the tasting menu exceeded our expectations especially for being one that’s quite popular on social media (usually these are no good). It’s probably the best valued tasting menu I’ve ever had. We had to pack food home. Everything was good except for the fish dish - it was incredibly dry and bland and just so underwhelming. Having gotten that out of the way, all the appetizers were stunning and so light and fresh. We were quite stuffed already when the mains arrived. But the Vietnamese inspired steak and southeast Asian fried chicken were so good! Really love the wide range of Asian flavors and inspo in each dish. Feel like we just toured Asia 🥹 And omg the desserts were to die for. NOT TOO SWEET!! The avocado mousse miso cream cheese raspberry Mille feuille was such a good combination and so LIGHT. And the basque cheesecake was also so light and not sweet we loved it and we don’t even like cheesecake. Only downside is service can be veryyyyy slow when it’s busy, with only two waiters. Please hire more staff! But overall such a nice clean quaint & cozy space, and can tell that every dish is made with love and rly appreciate the wide range of Asian flavor twists not just Taiwanese or Chinese or Japanese. Oh but pls get rid of that fish it was borderline inedible 😭

Our dine out dinner at this lovely little restaurant was amazing! They have a casual trendy decor that sets the tone for a relaxed dining environment. Their version of Whisky Sour hit the spot! Kicking off, was their yellow beet salad followed by the yellow fin tuna, mussels, black cod with shrimps - we took the garlic shrimp add on. The texture of every dish was perfect, outstanding delicate flavours signalling their Japanese fusion concept. Clearly, the menu was curated to showcase their culinary prowess that earned them the well deserved Michelin recognition! Their staff were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Overall - excellent dining experience; we’ll be back 👏👏

Totally overrated. For $75 a person, the food was underwhelming and overly pretentious. Fusion done badly—some dishes looked like cheap takeout dressed up for Instagram. The mille-feuille was a joke: three tiny, weird-tasting pieces that had no business keeping that name. The place was pretty empty on a Friday night, which says a lot. Worst part? The sketchy area. Felt unsafe walking in, with drug addicts nearby and a pill bottle outside the entrance. Service was fine, but everything else missed the mark. Hard pass.

The restaurant has been established for years and has recently introduced a happy hour. The food is consistently good, and the cocktail selection is impressive, but the prices are too high. The seating arrangement needs a serious overhaul; it is uncomfortable and should be addressed for a better dining experience.

Went to Torafuku for brunch because the pictures I've been seeing looked good. I went there for the first time today. We ordered the Lotus Chips, Maitake Tempura for our appies, and Prawn Toast for our main. We also ordered the Matcha Madness Cocktail. The Maitake Tempura and Lotus Chips we're very good. The lotus chips were crispy, tossed in sweet chili sauce. The Maitake Tempura was perfectly battered and fried. The Prawn Toast we didn't really enjoy. The gochujang aioli drizzled on top was flavourful, but the toast itself was quite greasy and heavy. I had to keep dousing it with lemon juice to cut through the fattiness. The matcha cocktail was delicious and definitely not watered down. Overall, the food was good except for the toast. My biggest disappointment is the service. They served the Lotus Chips first but didn't give us any cutlery or napkins. I thought probably we're supposed to eat it with our hands because they are chips afterall. Then came the tempura. They still didn't give us napkins, cutlery or share plates. I had to ask for some napkins because the sweet chili sauce from the lotus chips got my fingers sticky. Still was not given cutlery. We definitely needed them for the tempura. We had to ask for it. Then the prawn toast came. Thankfully, we finally had cutlery and napkins. The server never asked us how our food was until we were done eating and about to ask for the bill. My friend and I weren't really impressed by our dining experience. It wasn't bad just very underwhelming.

Yelp
Food and cocktails are good . The ribeye and halibut were delicious . Service was a bit off and everything went well . Casual dine in .

Yelp
Blown away by the beef noodle soup where I was able to smell the fragrant broth and the beef shank fell apart when I picked it up. The house made noodles is a little chewy which hang on well with the soup. Shout out to Miguel where he explained why the food is so special because they use very fresh ingredients! The Finger Lickin' Chicken is SO good with thin breading and juicy meat. The Basque cheesecake is gooey and the blueberry compote took it to the next level! The place is a bit dark but spacious for parties of any sizes. I wish it's easier to find parking.

Yelp
First time checking out Torafuku, a Taiwanese fusion restaurant. It's a few doors down from The American and Bodega on Main. We dropped in on a Friday (with 12:15pm reservations). No need to make a reservation for lunch. Service was fine but slow. Lunch menu is short with sharing plates, kickass rice bowls, beef noodle soup and basque cheesecake. There's a small happy hour (Wednesday to Sunday, 3:00pm to 5:30pm). Dinner is pricey a la carte but there's a 7 course tasting menu option ($65.00/person). - I love dumpling ($10.00) - 5 small dumplings. Nothing special about them or their house made chili vinaigrette. - Pork belly rice ($16.00) - braised pork belly was tender, not too fatty. - Fried chicken rice ($16.00) - gluten free chicken. Nicely done (crispy texture and juicy), 7 spice mayo was decent. - The chicken & crack rice ($17.00) - if you get one of the rice bowls, make sure it's with the crack rice (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and kale with parmesan and lemon essence). All the vegetables were tasty. - The pork belly & crack rice ($17.00) - 2x Torafuku beef noodle soup ($20.00) - beef shanks were tender. Noodles slurpable but wanted them more toothsome. Broth lacked depth. You're better off going to RedBeef Noodle Kitchen to get your Taiwanese beef noodle fix. Decent flavours but nothing stood out to warrant a return visit. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
I have been the loyal customer since day 1! Hosted private party, celebrates many birthdays, and just because we love their food and cocktails! Recently we went back to celebrate my daughter's graduation and mother in law 70th birthday, food, service, and ambiance are still excellent! Beautiful plating and define palates. Must try in Vancouver!

Yelp
Happy Canada Day. Been wanting to dine at Torafuku for a while, finally managed to make the time. Excellent food We decided to try the tasting menu ($70 per person). 4 appetizers, 2 mains and 1 dessert. 4 appetizers ========== Gem Lettuce Hiramasa Crudo Chawanmushi ( my personal favourite) dashi, egg, scallop, ikura roes Foies Gras Mains ===== Koshihikari rice with short rib Risotto ( the way I like it. Not too buttery) Desert ===== Classic Creme caramel My only gripe is that I wish they would change our plates after each dish. Food connects us all.

Yelp
Went to try the DOV menu. Food: Kale salad - pretty good. Just your regular salad 7/10 Eggplant - had a miso dressing, could use some crunch cause the eggplant was good but it was very mushy but flavours were good 7/10 Chicken wings - really good flavour and crispy wings. I think it was a lemongrass sauce on the outside 9/10 Fish (sea bass I think, with side of butter rice) - least of my fave dishes. Fish was very mushy alongside the vegis that were all very overcooked in a broth. side of rice was okay 5/10. We did not finish Dessert - panna cotta - blueberry compote, tasted like rice barley in a way? Found this so refreshing and delish. Probably my fave panna cotta 10/10 Service: friendly but we sat at the bar and we still had to waive bartender down for another drink. Atmosphere/vibe: it was very bright and looked like an unfinished restaurant with some walls unfinished and completely white walls. Unless that was the look and design they were going for. No air flow and very warm. We saw a few people just sweating and fanning themselves. For a Michelin guide restaurant and glowing reviews, I think we just went in with higher expectations. Maybe it was an off night? Not sure if I would be going back.

Yelp
I'm so so impressed with the flavors here! I recommended both the crack salad and the kale salad, both are hearty and flavorful, and so so full of rich textures. The fried chicken has been fried to perfection and the rice in the rice bowl is also seasoned with the most perfect umami flavorings. Our server was so nice and helpful, and the ambiance is modern and chic. This is such an all around wonderful spot and I hope to return soon!

Yelp
finally got to try this michelin recommended, asian fusion restaurant located at 958 main street, in a sketchy part of town. we managed to get 2 hour parking on the side, by the ivanhoe, as parking on main street wasn't available at 4:00 pm. we were a party of three, had made resos through open table and arrived around 4:00 pm on a wednesday. we were the only diners at this time, and it was nice that we were able to catch up and carry on a conversation without straining our ears and having to shout. torafuku is spacious with a long communal table, standard table seating and an open kitchen concept. the servers were pleasant, accommodating and made great recommendations. they were out of their matcha tea for the matcha madness cocktail, so i had the emarosa and then the yuzu lov. we started off with sharing the following happy hour items: brussel sprout salad, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprout, black vinegar, chickpea, roasted soy bean, the caramelization of the vegetables were so good and the texture of the chickpea was powdery once you took a bite into it. kanpachi crudo, ginger white soy dressing, this was a delicate dish, the kanpachi was sliced thinly, and it was melt in your mouth. chicken wings, general tao's sauce, fried chicken wings, with grilled broccolini we then had the seven course omakase tasting menu, $70/person, minimum 2 people sharing roasted beets, burrata, mixed greens, honey crisp apple, chardonnay vinaigrette, candied walnuts bison tartare, shallots, chives, crispy quinoa, cured egg yolk with salted rice crispy, great texture and flavours totten inlet mussels, spicy genmai miso butter, sake, cream, herbs, we got 2 orders of the mussels in lieu of the kanpachi crudo, mussels were plump and juicy black cod bouillabaisse, tiger prawns, fennel, leeks, tomato, dashi broth pain au lait, house made japanese milk buns and for dessert, we had the dark chocolate ganache praline crunch, milk chocolate mousse milk crumble. great ambience, sophisticated cocktails, innovative menu and well executed dishes. most everything we had was delicious, the stand outs were the bison tartare, kanpachi crudo, brussel sprout salad, mussels, and burrata, the only disappointment was the main entree, black cod. torafuku filled up quickly as the evening progressed. don't know why it took us this long to finally try this place, they just celebrated their eighth year anniversary this past october. we will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Had some very high expectations for this place especially with a Michelin guide rating and rave reviews. I'll let you know why I had my pros and cons despite all the hype surrounding this eatery'. First off not a pro or con but this place is located in a pretty inconspicuous building that seemed unoccupied just outside the main corridor of Vancouver's Chinatown and had to circle the block twice to find it. I like the vibe of the neighborhood and feel this eatery could bring in more establishments to a once unwanted area. Upon walking in you'll see a modern open space dining area with a large communal table and bench seating with tables large enough for four to six people. The open aired kitchen is lined with bar style seating and tables for two lining the wall on the side of the kitchen. After seeing my fav YouTuber rave about the beef noodle soup, I had my heart set on that and put this place down on our must go to list, only to find out from our server that it was served for lunch only:( After an initial disappointment I looked over the dinner menu closer and felt I could find an alternative:) Since our reservation was at 4:45pm and we didn't know dinner wasn't served until 5pm our server did let us know that happy hour was still on with discounts on cocktails and certain appetizers. Topping the cocktail list was the Torafuku sour which was made with olong tea infused Canadian Club rye, elderflower syrup, lemon, yuzu juice, and topped with egg white. We had three appetizers and what stood out to us was the Brussels sprout salad that came out on a pretty dish and consisted of roasted cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprout, chickpea, roasted soy bean and a black vinegar type dressing. Another good appetizer to try is the chicken wings with General Tao's sauce. For entrees we had 2x the black cod which resembled a ciopino with a chowder like broth and had shrimp that were nicely cooked as was the grilled black cod. I'm not a fan of miso cod but this one had a light flavor that did t overtake the fish. Our friend commented that the broth tasted like chicken noodle soup but we all agreed it didn't so you be the judge. I really liked the overall ambiance of the place! Now for the not so perfect four star rating I do have to say the service was not on par and we seemed to be ignored in large part by our server especially as they got busy even though we could see him just standing by the kitchen. Since our backs were to where the servers stood I overheard two of them say one party was complaining because they had t even ordered after waiting for 45 minutes. As for the other dishes the kanpachi crudo was meh and the slices of fish were way too thick and you could hardly taste the ginger soy dressing. As for the main courses the NY strip sirloin with chimichuri sauce they didn't ask our friend how she'd like it prepared and it came out cooked medium with the meat being a bit tough and chewy. The roasted dried aged duck paired with an asian pear arugula salad and tamari sauce was OK but was a bit on the dry side. I felt there could be some improvements made to the overall experience. Despite the downers, I'd like to go back and try lunch especially for the beef noodle soup I really looked forward too but never got so we'll see...

Yelp
Love this place for some innovative Asian fusion eats. Have had both their omakase menus $65 and a la carte. Most recently went with a friend and ordered 3 dishes and it was plenty. - Brussel sprouts - always a fave - mussels in miso butter cream sauce (omg wish we had bread to soak up this sauce) - risotto with and black garlic Each time I come, they rotate some seasonal dishes while keeping some good ones.

Yelp
Torafuku, Main St. Vancouver Part of Michelin Guide 2022 and 2023 My my, where do I start with this place!? They had a fire sometime in the summer and are back again. Simple decor, really attentive and active staff. The Chef Tasting Menu is highly recommended. Starters: Mussels (5/5) - Fresh, the miso butter is to die for, I almost licked the plate to the last drop. Bison Tartar (5/5) - melt in the mouth texture, comes with fried wonton wrapper to scoop everything in. Rice crisp are a fun surprise in the texture. Hiramasa Crudo (5/5) - citrusy, Gingery and again melt in your mouth soft texture. I need more than an appy size for this one. Burrata Salad (5/5) - Fresh salad and Burrata. Mains: Black Cod (5/5) The tomato dashi broth can be scooped up with the dinner rolls. Highly recommended wiping the plate clean, fennel adds an extra freshness to the already tasty broth - Cod was well done and soft. Desserts: Magic Stick. (5/5) The Praline leaf was delicately done, milk chocolate mousse and dark chocolate ganache was a good combo! Such intricate cooking and taste combinations is what makes this place amazing. Perfect place for a date night for sure!

Yelp
Their July omakase menu was delicious! I pretty much enjoyed my entire meal and even though I was full, after I finished their basque cheesecake I still wanted more. Only thing I really docked a star for was that their cocktails took a long time (perhaps no professional bartender? Still pretty good though) and one of their dishes was a little too heavy handed with salt. There's room for improvement, but very close to 5 stars for me. Definitely want to come back again and improve their rating :) P.s. it is not the most comfy seating or lighting for people who don't enjoy the dark, but you come here purely for the food :) At least I would.

Yelp
I was unimpressed and quite surprised about the awesome reviews. I wouldn't go here if you are hungry. I did enjoy the short ribs and the halibut - the most expensive in the dinner menu - was quite nice IMO because it was spicy and you can really taste the green curry.

Yelp
Came here before heading out to the States. It was Sunday lunch time and not that many people at 12 pm. Service is good and friendly. Ambience is casual fancy. Everything was as expected and delicious. We had below and highly recommend: - Yuzu and tamarind mocktails - I love dumplings - Pork belly and crack rice - Beef noodle soup - Hiramasa fish collar - Basque cheese cake

Yelp
Came for dine out Vancouver and was not disappointed! I was a little hesitant bringing my partner here since our recent restaurant recommendations had been falling flat. Luckily torafuku was the one to give us hope again! Starting with cocktails, the passion libre was everything my partner would ever wish for in a drink; spicy, not too sweet and the perfect balance of flavours. I stuck with the classic torafuku sour, always a W. Moving onto our appies, the steamed buns were as fluffy as clouds and every bite of the crudo was *chefs kiss*. Admittedly, some of the pieces were quite larger and thicker than others which slightly affected the bite but all in all, delicious. Not pictured were the roasted mushrooms and beets paired with candied walnuts and burrata. Loved all the different textures involved and the taste of the roasted mushrooms paired well with the subtle sweetness of the beets. The sea bream came with a light and crispy skin and the tamarind sauce paired great with the light delicate flavour of the fish. Unfortunately, we had to take dessert to go and also were also not pictured. Funny enough we both thought we would enjoy the citrus panna cotta more but the chocolate ganache took the cake! The milk crumbles were just delightful with a bite of the rich chocolate cake. Service was a bit slower but servers were all kind and helpful. After our mains, my partner was not feeling well (not from the food!) and the staff were quick to accommodate our early departure. There is plenty of street parking nearby and the skytrain station is a meet 5 minutes away. While Dine out Vancouver has slowly lost its appeal to me, torafuku has always consistently impressed me; it is the only restaurant I actually recommend despite their menu only being $3 less than their regular omasake. Excited to come back for their omasakes and more dine outs in the future!

Yelp
Extraordinary. Very accomplished blending of tastes for unexpected, very good, surprises in the tasting menu.

Yelp
Their November Omakase was delicious! Our table of 3 decided to choose the omakase for simplicity and variety. The omakase will include a variety of appetizers, a choice of a main dish and a choice of the dessert. My highlights: - drinks 5/5; delicious and delicate flavours - burrata 5/5: the flavours married so well - kanapachi crudo 5/5: perfect balance of ginger and radish with the fish - sweet potato 4/5: slightly too soft for my preference but the candied almonds and ricotta were incredible - chuck slaw 3.5/5: nothing extraordinary but the coleslaw was delicious - basque cheesecake 4/5: the cheesecake was great but because of how heavy it was, would've preferred the compote to be a bit tart/sour to balance the flavours. Definitely too much cake for 3 people (1.5) Will be back :)

Yelp
Great food and an innovative menu for a take out celebration. Amazing Mother's Day set menu this weekend featuring their flavourful and tender hainanese chicken with chicken fat rice (a little too rich but oh so delicious). It also came with XO Sauce grilled vegetables and a brussel sprouts/broccoli salad that was doused in green goddess dressing. On top of this, we were treated to a madeline cake that was gently soaked in syrup and had a floral taste to it. My mom absolutely loved this set but it was only half of what we ordered that night! We added on two rice bowls including the katsu beef tongue (which was so tender and delicious) as well as their scallop and mussels that sported a large quantity of plump mussels. The egg ontop of the rice was like the icing on the cake and added some moisture to the already stellar bowl. We also added some appetizers including their finger licking chicken which was perfectly named as each piece stayed crispy and had a great balance of salty and spicy. The calamari was not my favourite since the batter was quite thick but the dumplings were very tasty, although a bit pricey. My favourite of the night was their beef noodle soup that had two huge pieces of tender and flavourful beef shank in one of the best broths for beef noodles I have had. It was only a little bit spicy but remained a bomb of flavour. The noodles were cooked al dente and that egg...perfection in a bowl! I would not hesitate to order this again and again! Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and look forward to seeing what they come up with next!

Yelp
I've been to Torafuku twice for brunch, and I suggest to get their rice bowls. I particularly enjoyed the Pork Belly it has great flavor and the texture was amazing; it's marinated so well and the flavor just escapes it as you chew on it. And what I loved about it is it didn't feel greasy. Be sure to get it with the crack salad, the salt and crunchiness of the salad is to die for. I make my own crack salad in the air fryer, I will admit that they make theirs better than mine. For $14-15 per bowl, I can say it's great value for your money. Nothing to special with the restaurants interior, but the staff are friendly and very helpful. It's my second time here, I will definitely come back.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening with a reservation at 5:15 and it wasn't too busy at the time. Loved the ambience, service was amazing and the waitress was helpful with suggestions and I'm going to skip straight to the food now: we ordered the chicken wings, bison tartar, burrata, hiramasa crudo, AAA NY Steak with Kickass Rice, and after we finished all that we also got the market fish. Everything was delicious and the ones that I LOVED were: - Burrata: the mushrooms, the beets, the candied walnuts - every component in this dish had a distinct flavour and was tasty on its own but you could also eat them in any combination and they would taste amazing together - market fish: nice and crispy, and although I struggle at taking apart a whole fish the sauce in this dish was SO GOOD and worth the trouble. I wish we had some rice to soak up all of that amazing juice A cool thing to note: if you're a local and you're into pottery, you might notice some of their plates are made by HiDe!

Yelp
Taiwanese beef noodle soup used to be my favourite food until I ate it too often. Now, I'm sick of it but I still crave it once a while. I dined at Torafuku many years ago and I really enjoyed it. Since I heard so many good things about their beef noodles, I decided to check it out. I came here a few months ago but they were sold-out so when I stepped in today, I asked right away if they still had any left. Luckily, they did. I had their beef noodle soup with a side order of eggplants. The 72 hours beef broth was amazing! I can really taste the flavours without being too salty. The hand pulled noodles were so chewy and the beef shank was thick and tender. My eggplants were good too. It was a cold dish but the flavours were on point. I have a habit of complimenting the chef (if I see him or her). When I paid my bill, I said to the chef that I love the noodles soup. He just said "thank you" so that he appears polite but I know that he didn't really seem to care. The server wasn't as friendly too so yea this review deserved a 5 star but I knocked off 1 star because of the service.

Yelp
Good but nothing amazing... but to be fair, I've only had their beef noodle soup. The beef was tender (4/5), and noodle was chewy and delicious (4/5);however, the soup lacked the beefy flavor (2.5/5). The place is pretty aesthetically pleasing, but for the price and the quality, it's a meh. I wouldn't ever crave to eat here, but not a bad place to pass by and try!

Yelp
We arrived to 5:45pm and though the place was not busy we agreed to leave by 6:45pm. The restaurant ambiance is quiet open and contemporary. The waiter and waitress were very attentive and fantastic with following up with the food taste and quality. We ordered: The Chai - very good alcoholic beverage you like chai and plum taste Pork belly skewers - was super flavourful and rich Chicken thighs skewers - was good, not my favourite Chicken gizzard - no picture but was my husband's favourite Mochi - tasted like Chinese deep fried roll Tiger ball - really good with gooey cheese Get in my belly roll - if you like spicy tuna you would love this The food came out at a good pace. As we finished another one was served. Great service explaining the dish with ingredients. We left full and satisfied. Would come back to try other dishes.

Yelp
Went with my partner's family the day before father's day. Quite busy. If you're a party bigger than 4 the booths may be a bit tight. We got the calamari, the father's day short rib dinner set, duck dinner set and the half rice bowl. The dinner sets are for 2 people but food was plenty and great for sharing with more. Calamari: Lightly breaded, crispy and the dish included pieces of mushroom along with the calamari. Good batter ratio, shareable for maybe 2-3 people. The sets both came with brussel sprout salad, summer salad and foi gras stuffed chicken wings and dessert. Loved the crunchy quinoa topping on the first salad - it's also a warm salad. The summer salad had grilled corn, watermelon, tomato and ricotta. The salad was bright and refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer day! Chicken wings: Very crunchy but juicy on the inside. The dipping oil/ vinegar didn't add anything much for me. Braised short rib: The bone was BIG. A real show stopper for sure. I also don't really like to eat things off the bone so it is always nice that the meat was always sliced and ready to eat. This set also had the wagyu kimchi fried rice which was a bowl of comfort. A sunny side up egg was perfect and each grain of rice was delicious coating in the sauce/kimchi. Duck: Finally a vessel to hold enough duck: the steamed bun! Unlike Peking duck, the skin was not as crispy but it was definitely flavourful. The foie gras parfait didn't add much for me. The half rice bowl consisted of half pork belly and half fried chicken which is a great dish if you can't decide what protein you want. It was also delicious ! Lastly desserts: mango pudding and Basque cheesecake. The mango pudding was too liquidy for me but the shortbread cookies added a nice crunch. Fresh mangos but not much flavour in the dessert or creaminess other than the cream on top. The Basque cheesecake was a good size, not sweet enough for me but very rich. I knew how the Basque cheesecake was to appear ( burnt top) but I felt like ours was maybe a tad too burnt. Because the cheesecakes was not as sweet, the bitterness of the top further cut the flavour. Overall, it was great food and a nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Food: 7/10 Service: 7/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 They offer tapas so expect to pay high and receive little. A lot of these items are dishes you can easily learn and make it at home. I don't think I'd come back but the experience was still nice.

Yelp
Happy belated Valentine's Day! I hope you have a great time with your loved ones! We choose a casual celebration this year. We have picked an Asian fusion restaurant, Torafuku, in the Strathcona neighbourhood with a simple menu. Their dishes are expected to be shared. The plates were small but do not limit the beautiful presentation. Kick-ass Rice 3.0 Sushi roll with torched pork belly, cucumber, and avocado. We enjoyed their home-made fuku hot sauce on the sushi roll with fried quinoa sprinkled on top. They got some great flavour and a decent spicy kick as well. I love Dumplings Classic dumplings with pork and chive. They were very tasty with a good amount of pork filling. Humble Pie Japanese Kabocha squash pie with coffee mascarpone mousse. It was the perfect dessert to end the night. Torafuku is nestled on the border of historic Chinatown at 958 Main Street in Vancouver, BC. It is about 5-minutes walk away from Main Street-Science World Skytrain Station. Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍4/5 Kids: 3/5 A-OK for kids. (Most kids love noodles and dumplings, but this place is super tiny) Price: $50-$100 for two (Dinner) Presentation: 4/5 Parking: can park along Main Street or behind the residential neighbourhood. Tips: has small tables, the bar, and the shared table. recommends booking a reservation as it is a small place with limited seating. has great cocktails . has extended Happy Hours to 7 PM. Would I Return: Yes ‍

Yelp
The reviews that say that this place isn't that good is lying. The kimchi fried rice is super super good and the perfect amount of spice. If your get the steamed buns get the ribs with it and put it in the buns. Trust me it is amazing and you will not regret it

Yelp
I'm genuinely quite surprised by some of the mediocre reviews here because I was absolutely blown away by each bite of my Dine Out lunch ($15). For real, my eyes rolled back at the first taste, and I was scraping the sides of my dish to savour the last few morsels. CRACK SALAD: This is such an aptly named dish because it is incredibly addictive. You've got your brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, fried kale, and parmesan, all dressed with a bangin' sauce comprised of lemon juice, EVOO, and chili flakes. Aside from the sauce, my favourite component was definitely the fried kale since it soaked up that sauce while still maintaining its crunch. KICKASS RICE W/ PORK BELLY: Torafuku sure knows how to season their dishes because once again, this excited my taste buds and kept me smiling throughout. As beautifully presented as it is, you've gotta mix up all those ingredients to get the full kickass experience of the poached egg coating the rice and braised pork belly, the zest of the pickled cabbage and sauce, and the pops of heat from the chili pepper. Incredibly tasty dish! COCONUT PANNA COTTA: While I was relatively satisfied with the sizes of the appy and the entree, the size of the dessert left much to be desired. IT WAS SO SMALL! The worst part is that it was SO GOOD that I wanted more. The coconut definitely cleansed the palate and balanced out the heaviness of the entree. Adding the toasted coconuts flakes on top was just divine. As far as service goes, I feel like it could've been more attentive, especially since it was not that busy at the time that we went. A quick check-in to see how the food was tasting would've been much appreciated. Seriously, if you're going to do Dine Out, come to Torafuku for lunch and order the above dishes. My friend ordered the Big Bang Beans and the Fuku Ramen, and though they were good, they paled in comparison to my dishes. The Fuku Ramen was perhaps my least favourite because it wasn't hot enough and the broth was unexpectedly milky. Other than that, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with ordering a 3-course meal for $15. If I could go back to Torafuku again before Dine Out ends, I definitely would!

Yelp
This was one of the better Asian fusion places I have tried! Since we had a big group, we had to do a set menu. It was amazing and I'm happy to have tried it whilst enjoying the company of good women. The service was good and the food came out quickly and efficiently! I ended up getting dessert. Everything was enjoyable except the chicken heart skewer. I did not enjoy those because I dont like offal meats. However, the ladies who like the hearts enjoyed it thoroughly. The decor was clean and simple but the chairs at the table we were at were uncomfortable. I feel that this could use some improvement. Otherwise, great experience.

Yelp
For some reason I only end up coming here during Dine Out Vancouver, but for good reason: they don't make you feel rushed. Keep in mind this place is already small and reservations are hard to come by. Add to that the fact that instead of serving only 3 courses, they serve 5! All dishes are shared, but presentation does not suffer at all! Every course was served to please the eye as well as the stomach! The names of each dish is both whimsical and appropriate at the same time. Check out their menu to see what I mean. We sat at the bar and had a perfect view of the kitchen which was warmly lit and added to the cozy feeling of the restaurant's dining area. The perfect place to be on a cold Vancouver night.

Yelp
Came with a group of friends and was able to snag a last minute reservation on their patio. The street-side patio was spaced out with picnic tables and umbrellas. Our group decided to go with their anniversary omakase. The food came out at a good pace and was really delicious. I'd speak highly of every single course we had. The portions were relatively easy to split among us. Everything we had was quality and what I would have expected of this meal. I ordered the matcha madness and was advised it was more of an after-dinner drink. I still ordered it and was glad I did, highly recommend if you like matcha and a sweet (but not too sweet) drink. One major downside for me was when I went into the washroom. Opening the heavy front door I gashed my foot open as there is a metal bar on the lower portion of the door. It was bad, but I didn't want to make a scene. I don't know why they haven't fixed this. One of my friends went in to ask for a band aid and she said they seemed to know about this issue. They brought a couple bandaids but weren't overly apologetic. In hindsight I probably should have said something because my foot bled pretty badly and I almost passed out at the table when I returned. Over a week later my foot still hurts. Recommend the food and the restaurant but watch out for the front door.

Yelp
"BEST TW BEEF NOODLES IN TOWN" I can now validate that statement. It was so good that I wanted additional noodles which by the way you can add for $3 extra!! During lunch time they turn it into a self-serve restaurant where you order at the cashier and seat yourself. GET: Torafuku Beef Noodle Soup $15 Features soy & sake braised beef shank, 72 hours beef broth, hand pulled al dente noodle, bok choy, soft poached marinated egg, and pickled mustard TIP: They have a limited quantity each day so to avoid disappointment I'd suggest you go early or call ahead to ensure they are available. This is only offered during lunch.

Yelp
I was in the Chinatown area and looking for a place to eat. It's awesome that Torafuku is not only open for lunch but also they have quite a variety of items to choose from. I wanted to try everything but since it's cold out, I wanted some soup. I opted for the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Happy that it came in piping hot. The noodles were just the right kind of chewy. The egg was cooked perfectly -- see the pic. The chopped mustard greens added a new dimension. The broth was full of beefy, herby taste. For someone who hasn't had Taiwanese beef noodle may find this taste too strong but I love it. It's got a bold taste to it. I'm glad Torafuku did not try to 'westernize' this. The only drawback I would say is the beef. It came with 2 large pieces of beef shank which is perfect for this dish but it could be more tender. Also, for covid, they installed plexiglass between booths and followed covid protocols. I didn't feel worried while being there. Thanks Torafuku. Will be back next time to try your other offerings.

Yelp
Price/quality (4/4): Came here for my birthday and had their tasting menu. The price was actually quite affordable, considering that it was a 7(?)-course meal. All the dishes were very tasty, with the duck and fish being my favorites. Service (1/1): Service was friendly and mostly effective, even on a busy night. Would I come here again: Yes

Yelp
Good place for Asian fusion food! Very attentive and friendly staff/service. It was quite busy when we got there, so I would definitely recommend making reservations to score a table. My friend and I ended up sitting at the bar, which was fine... But seating is definitely more comfortable at a table. Torafuku is clean, and the decor/ environment is very modern. However, the restaurant is quite small. We ordered the: - Emarosa cocktail (SO GOOD) - Old man and the sea - Magic mushroom - Kick ass rice 3.0 Flavours were good, especially the Magic Mushroom dish. The hint of yuzu brightens up the dish. I didn't find the Old Man and the Sea to be as outstanding compared to the rest of our dishes but it was still good. Definitely recommend trying this place out! Good place for bringing a date or coming with friends for drinks and shared plates!

Yelp
I came here for lunch with coworkers and remember the food being good so my husband and I decided to try their dinner menu. The restaurant is quite small. The servers are kind and lovely. The only thing is...the dinner food was so bad. The one good thing we had was the brussel sprout salad. My husband had the roast duck entree and he said it was okay nothing special. I had the ling cod...DO NOT order this dish!!! It was terrible. I've never tasted something so bad. It looks good at a glance but as soon as I tasted the brothy sauce I was so turned off. There was a thick layer of oil on top that whatever the sauce was supposed to be...it didn't taste like anything. It had a weird oily fishy taste and not in a good way. In the description it says "satay" so I was expecting some sort of sweet salty peanuty sauce. I tried to save it with hot sauce but even that didn't help. I barely touched it. I don't know why we decided to have dessert after that but we did. We had the tiramisu and omg it's the worst tiramisu I ever tried. There was so much mascarpone cream. It was so heavy, dense and grainy. Even my husband who usually eats everything said that was terrible. We barely touched that too. I recommend you go here for lunch but not dinner. It was not worth the price, time and energy. The whole bill was over $100 with drinks. We won't be coming back here for dinner.

Yelp
tl;dr food was just so-so, service was not the best, tip policy was deceiving, and menu was changed without notice. In a city with so many other Asian fusion restaurants, you'd be better off elsewhere. I brought my girlfriend back to Vancouver, my hometown, for the first time, and wanted to take her to a higher-end restaurant to end our trip. I read about Torafuku and the chef's famous Le Tigre fried rice and so, since my girlfriend is a big fan of fried rice, I decided to make a dinner reservation. I had to pay a deposit for the food, which was $40 per person for a 5-course meal with steak, which I thought was a fair price. On the day of, we thought about going to a different restaurant, but we couldn't find a cancellation policy and nobody picked up the phone when I tried to call, so we decided to stick with the reservation. When we arrived, we were seated quite quickly and the food started coming right away; nobody asked us to confirm the course that we booked or to ask whether we had any allergies. This was fine, since we made sure that we were not allergic to anything from the menu we read online... Except the menu was (mostly) not followed. The amuse bouche should've been a duck consommé, but instead we were given a daikon broth. The first appetizer should've been a mushroom dish (which we were really looking forward to as well), but instead it was a plain sliced potato dish. We thought those were just extra dishes from the kitchen, but by the time we realized that those were our appetizers, it was too late since our main dish already came. We thought it was quite shocking and not very pleasant that the menu was changed without any notice. The actual food was just alright. The daikon broth tasted like soy sauce soup from udon, the salad and the potatoes were both on the savoury / sour side, and the steak had too much fats; salt and pepper were not offered. The cheesecake was quite appetizing. The service was quite poor for a restaurant of this calibre. During the meal, nobody came to check on us or have small talk with us. We were given a bottle of water to refill ourselves. Our plates were never cleared and table never cleaned; only at the end of the meal, the waitress took away all our plates at once. At the end of the meal, we were just given a machine with a $14 balance; turns out, booking online meant it was a de-facto 18% tip. This was not brought up at any point of the booking process; I only saw this when I checked the website again after the meal and specifically looked up "18%" on the website. The service was nowhere near worthy of an 18% tip, especially in a city like Vancouver, where we could get much better service at any Chinese / Asian fusion dine-in restaurant. Overall, this was quite a bad experience. The food was just alright, the service was bad, and the 18% enforced tip just made me feel very uncomfortable. I would recommend going to any other Chinese / Asian fusion restaurant in Vancouver.

Yelp
After seeing many posts on IG I decided to have a date night with the wife (kid free) here. Made resos for 7:30 but was there a little earlier. We got greeted and seated within seconds of walking in. I didn't realize the gentleman was the owner till afterwards. We ordered a drink each, the People's Cocktail and Torafuku Sour. The drinks were exceptionally tasty but felt needed a bit more alcohol to it. We had decided to do the 10 course omakase. The dishes each came out at a nice pace and not one dish were we disappointed with. Every item had great taste and flavours! One of my personal favourites was the dish called Rabbit Food and the Higher Steak! I would have to say it was one of the best beef tataki had! Definitely a nice overall experience! The owner and servers were very prompt with removing dishes and keeping your table clear and clean. I overheard the table ask how a drink was made and the owner had no hesitation to explain in detail the process, which was very nice to see! I would definitely recommend this place and would 100% come back and try the other menu items!

Yelp
I'm surprised that Torafuku has such a low rating because I thought it was sooooo good! Went in for lunch on Sunday and it was relatively quiet since we went in an hour before closing but a rush of people came in right after we ordered. I specifically came in because someone said it might be the best beef noodle she's tried in Vancouver. And you know... She might be right. The soup was so flavourful and just the right amount of spice. The noodles were the perfect texture and soaked up the soup so well. The only downside is that the portion of noodles is smaller than average for Vancouver BUT the thick slices of beef really made up for that. Those were some hefty slices! And the beef is also very flavorful and so so tender. Huge fan.

Yelp
First time trying this place, not bad. Loved the flavours! Lively restaurant serving inventive Asian fusion dishes in a sleek, modern space. Nestled on the border of historic Chinatown, Torafuku invites you to experience simple, yet adventurous interpretations of pan Asian flavours. Explore contemporary dishes crafted with local ingredients sourced from local farms complemented by carefully selected wines, local craft beers, and a fashionable cocktail list.

Yelp
I had this set menu way back in September with a couple of friends so admittedly, I won't remember much about the food. I do remember the cocktail was probably my favourite that I've had in Vancouver. The ambiance reminds me very much of Brooklyn in New York, especially with the brick exterior on the edge of Chinatown and the casual/minimal ambiance inside. Favourite dish was the sashimi. The fried fish tasted great but I found the tamarind sauce on the side to be too salty. Raw beef dish and the sushi rolls were surprisingly my second favourite! I say surprising because I did not expect the sushi to exceed my expectations at a fusion restaurant. Chocolate ganache cake was tasty but the creamy passionfruit/mango dessert in the jar was very sour! Beautiful plating though overall and casual service - as in they checked on you often enough but knew how to leave you alone, which I appreciated.

Yelp
This might be my favourite Dine Out yet ! Pidgin comes at a very, very close second, but both were out of this world amazing. The Dine Out is on the pricey side at $45 per person, but it was so worth it. I came here with my dad because they were pretty much fully booked, and there was no way that I'm going to come here at 9:00pm for dinner. A girl gotta go to school in the morning, you know? Not gonna lie, I have a test tomorrow, but I'm not going to pass up a chance to eat some good food. The restaurant was really accommodating, because my dad doesn't eat cold/raw food, so they allowed us to choose two items from group 3 instead of one from group 2 and one from group 3. The food came out pretty quickly, and the servers were nice. My only complaint is that portions are pretty small, so I was still hungry after hogging all the food to myself (sorry dad!). Course 1: Bread + Butter (1.5/5) I was the least impressed with this dish. The bread was cold and the spreads (edamame and sunchoke) didn't taste very good. I expected better. We didn't finish this. Course 3: Kingsman Eggsy (5/5) Holy crap this was so amazing. This wins as our favourite course of the night. My dad gives it 6/5 stars, he loves it that much. The steamed egg was light and silky, and the crunchy root vegetables, mushrooms, and seaweed on top gave it a depth and complexity that was unparalleled. This was delicious, and I could've easily eaten a whole bucket of this. Course 3: Everyday I'm Brusseling (5/5) At first the taste was a little too overwhelming for me, but then the more I ate it, the more I started to love it. The crispy chickpeas and quinoa were amazing! The black bean balsamic vinaigrette is not something that I thought I would like, but it went surprisingly well with the dish. Although it could have used a little less sauce, this was a very delightful dish nonetheless. Course 4: Highest Steak (2.5/5) This was okay, but it didn't stand out at all. My dad the steak was slightly above average, but it didn't wow us like the other dishes. The accompaniments were average as well, and I thought that it could have been more flavourful. The vegetables could also have been cooked a little longer. The potato chips on top added a nice crunch though. Course 5: Humble Pie (5/5) This was so good ! The pie was more on the dense side, which I personally prefer. The kabocha squash tastee wasn't too overwhelming, and I thought the pie crust had a nice texture. I didn't like the boba, but that's because I don't like boba. I also could've done without the whipped cream, because I also do not enjoy whipped cream. Course 5: Milk & Cookie (5/5) This was fantastic. I actually liked this better than the Humble Pie, which was already pretty darn good. The perfect ratio of the Thai milk tea panna cotta to the caramel on top is 2:1, just saying. The milk tea flavour was prominent, but not overpowering, and coupled with the sweetness of the caramel, it was the perfect dessert to end the night. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I've read reviews about people feeling like the service was too rushed, but my experience was perfect. The new dishes came out right after we were done with the previous one, and when we did have to wait, it was only for a couple of minutes. I totally recommend coming here, and I will definitely be bringing my family here for both lunch and dinner soon !

Yelp
Came here to try their 7 course omakase at $45 per person (note that they changed it to 6 courses now). They have a 10-course omakase for $55 a person but we didn't want any desserts so we opted for the 7-course. We tried: rabbit food, get in my belly sushi roll, vegetable skewers, I love dumplings, pork belly skewers, general tao chicken wings and a crab risotto with octopus. We loved the risotto and the chicken wings! I was disappointed their brussel sprouts dish wasn't included though. Is it worth it? We saved $17 for 2 people by ordering the omakase vs. ordering everything we had separately. I recommend the omakase if it's your first time at Torafuku and you want to try a variety of different dishes. More on my blog: https://sincerelyloewe.com/torafuku-7-course-omakase/

Yelp
Service was really good. We went here after a night time event at Science World and it was one of the few places that served ramen that was open late. As soon as we walked in we were offered a table and other than their long table, all the other tables were full. The menu was cute and colourful with clever names. Food was good. The star of the meal was the Cornstar. Essentially small corn on the cob pieces amped up with ponzu butter, basil on charred corn on the cob. The "Get in my Belly" Spicy tuna torafuku style sushi was good in a fusion way but not traditional for sure. We also enjoyed the Fuku Ramen and a soft poached egg was an extra $2.50 It was pricey but a decent spot to eat at. I'll be back for the good food and service but the price might keep me away.

Yelp
Neat place! We didn't feel like drinking so we ordered tea but happy hour is until 7PM which is neat. A bit on the pricey side $55 for 10 courses but it was n ie to have him come out one at a time. We spent nearly three hours there and kept adding hot water to our tea. Each dish was delicious I think my favorite was the kale Cesar salad with fried quinoa. Dessert was a bit too rich, I wish following an exciting meal like that, that they'd bring out something more classic and vanilla instead of dark chocolate and zesty orange.

Yelp
Disclosure: This review is for Dine Out Vancouver 2019 lunch menu (Le Tigre popup) My coworkers and I had to hustle over on the Skytrain during our lunch break to get to Torafuku with enough time to eat. I had tried their pork belly bowl numerous times when their food truck was parked on Alberni street and never had a bad experience. When our appies arrived, we were shocked that the full portion was given and started wondering how we would be able to finish the entree and dessert, still to come. We all had the Crack Salad which was delicious - brussel sprouts perfectly seasoned and tasty, with a kick of spice every so often. The only aspect I would change would be slicing the cauliflower bits smaller for ease of eating. The rice bowls were delicious - bursting with flavour with the creamy mayo, spice, runny egg... just wow! We were half way through our bowls and stuffed to the brim! Somehow we managed to finish the bowls (one of us more easily than the rest) and then dessert arrived. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much for the dessert as I had seen very many panna cotta-like offerings this year on the Dine Out restaurant menus. However, this was made with almond milk and was quite refreshing and a nice change from the usual dairy based dessert. For $15, I would challenge you to find a better bang for your buck meal from the Dine Out festival menus this year. I thought I was going to be unwell back at the office, I had eaten so much! Needless to say I skipped dinner that night and even breakfast the next morning :D 10/10 would return!
