Torchy’s Tacos Brings Queso and Margaritas to Dripping Springs - Eater Austin

"Torchy’s Tacos, the Austin-born taco chain, is opening its Dripping Springs restaurant on Tuesday, May 15. It will be found on 166 Hargraves Drive within Belterra Village. Torchy’s will open for a public preview ahead of the opening date with free tacos on Monday, May 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. People who visit the restaurant on opening day will be entered into a raffle for a year’s worth of free tacos. Expect the same menu and service as the other restaurants: counter-service breakfast, lunch and dinner tacos; queso. There will be a full bar serving up with margaritas (frozen and on the rocks), and other cocktails like its take on martinis. The Belterra Village Torchy’s Tacos will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Torchy’s is opening its first downtown Austin location sometime before the end of the year in the Northshore apartment building. It shuttered its South First trailer last month too. Owner Michael Rypka opened the first trailer in 2006, and it quickly expanded with brick-and-mortar restaurants throughout Texas and now in Colorado and Oklahoma." - Nadia Chaudhury

This Torchy’s location is great! Atmosphere was awesome and the food was delicious! Taco of the month was superb! Best of all was the service provided by Lexi. She was attentive and super personable! Always busy running but never too busy to check in with customers! Job well done Lexi! Highly recommend this location.

On Saturday 2/1/25 I went to the Torchy's in the Belterra shopping center and placed an order to go. I ordered two childrens chicken tacos, 2 children's chicken quesadillas and a salad. The place was very busy. i noticed a few people walking up to the counter like they were looking for their order. My order took 10 to 15 minutes to come out. When I got home I noticed the white bag containing the tacos was very greasy. The tacos inside were extremely greasy and poorly wrapped. (see taco photo) The tortilla is not toasted, it is just grease. It was like someone just threw them in the bag. There were no quesadillas in the bag, just some excuse for a taco. I took the order back and asked for a refund. It is obvious this location was poorly staffed. The sole cashier kept going back to the kitchen area. I am guessing he was making food too.It makes me wonder what is going on in the kitchen. I have had the same exact problem at this location before, and not at other Torchy;s locations.

Great service. Consistent food quality. Guacamole is perfect every time.

Joy did an amazing job in helping us learn about the menu. We loved our first time here as visitors to Austin.

Google
First time eating here and it was great!!. The tots and steak burrito were by far my favorite things on the menu. The bartender Robby was great and provided exceptional service and was very friendly. This Torchy’s is definitely a new spot of mine.

Google
Picked up breakfast tacos this morning from the Belterra location (166 Hargraves Dr Ste J100), and everything was completely saturated in oil—absolutely inedible. Called to speak with a manager and was placed on hold for 15 minutes. When I finally got through, Sarah answered—and then placed me on hold again. No apology, no resolution, just a waste of time and money. Completely unacceptable.

Chris Hartley

Google
My grilled shrimp tacos were served COLD. I still ate them w/o complaining because I was starving. The taste was fine, just cold. Also, maybe just a little too loud in here.

Casey M.

Google
Best bar tending staff in the whole company. Sarah is the best, Cheeto makes the best pre-mixed margarita of all time, Lexi is pretty sick at volleyball (or so they say), Dylan has legit flow. What a squad. Wow. Incredible. So sick. If you’re not here on a Friday night at 6pm then what are you doing? Not this, which is lame. Love you byeeeeee.

Yelp
I gotta say this Torchy's has come along way over the past few years and i am really excited about it. Staff is super friendly; good food whether delivery or eat in (everybody knows the secret that Torchy's tacos are much bigger when you eat in the store!). But it's been clean, well taken care of, and of course Torchy's food is really fun and delicious. Nice environment for adults & kids alike. I am really hoping that they stay on this track and I can write an update over the next year or so with 5 stars!

Yelp
Yikes. Just left there after having a drink at the bar and got our food to go. Got home and opened the bag to find this sad excuse for a serving of meat for my salad. Make sure to check your to-go orders before you leave. Can't believe we paid for this.

Matt B.

Yelp
This torchy's is absolutely horrible. Just ordered a Baja Shrimp, chicken taco and Brushfire. Baja shrimp had just shrimp and nothing else in it, shrimp wasn't even battered. Chicken in the chicken taco was all burnt, and the brushfire was undercooked chicken with just pineapple. WTF, it's like you all are intentionally ruining orders.

Victoria G.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the bartender Robbie was wonderful. The place was clean and service was fast.
google avatar

Sherrill J.

Yelp
Good Mexican comfort food. Excellent Chili con Queso. Service at the bar is always friendly and attentive. Democrat taco served cold to me twice. Apparently a technical issue in kitchen. Good flavor and must be served hot. Enjoyable environment.

Yelp
Redemption tour visit to Torchy's in Belterra. Last time I complained about the food and was contacted by several Torchy's folks, including the local manager, who refunded my cost for both meals Today lunch was 180 degrees improved. My Crossfire taco was excellent. The brisket was rich and Smokey and my companion's Democrat contained the best carnitas she could remember having. Portions were huge - my taco was the size of Delaware and the tomatillo sauce was wonderful and complementary. Torchy's Belterra, you're back in our good graces. Glad you ironed out whatever ailed the kitchen. Keep it going
google avatar

Sam G.

Yelp
Me and my wife just absolutely love the amazing style and flavors of torchy's tacos. Whether you're a democrat or republican or you want a Democrat or Republican Taco this is the place for you. We love all the interesting interior designs and style touches that this place has to offer and how they really put extra effort into making everything so cool. We also love the Baja shrimp tacos and the trailer park!

J S.

Yelp
I've ordered to go from here 6x in the past 3 weeks and not once has it been at the pickup area on time. I've waited anywhere from 10-30+ minutes ... I know this is not normal as I frequent all of the Torchy's locations in Austin and Lubbock area. Food tastes great but that amount of wasted time waiting is not worth the hassle.
google avatar

Mary J.

Yelp
I have eaten at two different Torchy's locations. This one, in Belterra Village shopping center, was a waste of time and money. There was maybe half as much filling in the taco, and to request a tip for allowing me to order at your counter was insult to injury. I have wondered if the restaurant shorted my order because I didn't tip. Either way, I warn everyone against this location.
google avatar

Kristin R.

Yelp
We've been frequenting this location for a couple months now after moving out here. We have only had good experiences, aside from the frozen margarita machine being broken about half the time. The poor service and slow wait times seem to be resolved. We've had nothing but pleasant interactions and wait times on par with every other Torchys.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Torchy's at the South First little location; and was overjoyed when this location opened. All over the 5 star nod right in the early days; things have steadily gone down hill since 2018. My old breakfast fave the Ranch Hand (I actually DO live on a ranch) used to be a glorious mixture of eggs, beef fajita, and cheese paired with their diablo sauce. These days the fajita meat is burnt to a crisp; terrible taco. So, breakfast is out. Fabulous happy hour drink specials we used to go in for are also gone as well. Might as well just drink at home for cheap instead. Lunch and dinner; yeah that's gone down hill too. My favorite Mr. Pink (ahi tuna) disappeared off the menu awhile back too. Last couple of trashy trailer parks and baja shrimp tacos have just been OK. Long for the Torchy's of old but I guess goin' corporate the sizzle is gone
google avatar

Suzy C.

Yelp
We needed a salad and this would not have been where we thought to go but someone was picking up food for us! The salad was so fresh and just what we needed after so much bbq!
google avatar

Jefferson R.

Yelp
Forget about the coffee with your morning breakfast tacos! Doesn't exist! Music is too loud to consider eating inside anyways!

Mandj D.

Yelp
Im begging yall to get it together at this location. Ive given you guys so many chances. Foods either completely awful compared to other locations or they forget your order all together. So sad.

Rick R.

Yelp
Haven't been to Torchy's in a while. Came today and saw Daxton and he made us feel like home! Great service as always. He is wonderful!
google avatar

Murrisa G.

Yelp
Great breakfast with a drink to start your Memorial Day Holiday- perfect for a drive in the Austin Hill Country!

Yelp
Best day ever. Thank u. Bartender Alexis made us feel so comfortable. Loves the music too and the vibe.

Yelp
We live in Blanco and this is the closest option for us. I will say each time we have gone in there they are very attentive and efficient, not the friendliest at the order counter, but I think there are a lot of new employees and I am hoping that will come with time. I went in there once and the line was out the door all I needed was a gift card for my wife so I went to the bar and the bartender took care of me. He was friendly, accommodating, and took care of what I needed right away. We usually go there after dance class for my daughter and the food is always hot and delicious for us. I will say they may need to have more people be attentive of the lobby since it does always seem a bit messy, but I do always see it busy. I have high hopes for this location and would recommend it.
google avatar

Erica S.

Yelp
Gave them two months to have guacamole in stock. Every time we've gone and ordered it, we end up leaving because they never have it and say they're out of it. It's 10am and they probably just haven't prepared for the day. Looks like they're just getting ready for the day at 10:15. Manager was there too.
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
First time here! From Midwest. Really delicious tacos and great service! Everyone was so nice and friendly.
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
After asking my fiancé to grab me some food on the night before thanksgiving he stopped in and they were already closed but still offered to give him some drinks and queso. Can't say enough about how awesome and sweet that is, especially the night before thanksgiving when you have a baby at home lol. Plus the food is always SO good even after being being brought home! Can't go wrong
google avatar

Cami P.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We love that is it a local and a staple in Dripping Springs. The ambiance is fun and comfortable.
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
I love me some Torchy's but when they forget a key ingredient (fried poblanos) when you're paying $6.50 for a single taco, it's disappointing. I also ordered online and showed up 20 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready but had to wait an additional 10 minutes. I think they were short staffed for the Sunday lunch rush. Hopefully they improve on time estimates, staffing and order accuracy going forward.
google avatar

Annamarie L.

Yelp
We stopped by to kill some time and had chips and queso, our favorite here. I watched one of the guy employee's clean this area and I thought he was coming back but nope this is how he left it and went off to do something else. This explains why the area me and my family sat at was dirty. I was cleaning the table off of cheese and the floor from someone's drink that must have spilled. The guy brought use the food and I'm still cleaning and tell her the tables are dirty she just stands and has nothing to say or offer to take over to finish clean up. Always look how they keep a place clean because if they have the front looking nasty I'm sure the back is as well and u can't see what your food was next too. We did not stay long after realizing that the employees don't care to be clean and management is okay with it.

CJ T.

Yelp
We stopped going here a couple of years ago after consistently poor service and food. Wait times were forever, and not one time did we ever get everything we ordered. The food was always cold and poorly prepared. This was not at all like our experience with other Torchy's. We tried it multiple times with the same disappointing results. There are better choices in the Belterra area.
google avatar

Lani B.

Yelp
Torchy's breakfast tacos are liiiiiife! The Wrangler is my fave woth eggs, beef, potatoes, and cheese with all the sauces (green, red, and hot AF). So good, getcha some! Also, please bring a franchise location to Casselberry, FL. Thx!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
So, I tried again. Ordered the chicken fajita tacos as take out and this is what I got. Little blackened bits of extremely greasy chicken. Inedible!
google avatar

Jesse D.

Yelp
Rude guy at the counter... burnt eggs on my tacos... The older guy cleaning tables was very nice and provided good service. But ol gauged ear guy at the counter was a jerk.

Brook S.

Yelp
Sit at the bar!!!! Best bartenders AND they have my favorite beer on tap! Voodoo ranger!!!!! Dax is so fun and attentive. Logan and Lex are great! The managers are super helpful and friendly. Jett at the register was a delight. My favorite spot to stop for a beer a taco. I dare say it's a DAMN GOOD time!!!

Zach B.

Yelp
Alexis, great bartender. Good food. I frequent this location and always get a friendly greeting. Good people.

Melvin T.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I had a Mr orange and a tipsy chick and the tacos were amazing. Our bartender Robbie was great with his amazing service.

Yelp
We have frequented this location numerous times (usually during lunch) and the wait is typically 10-15 minutes for our food to come out (which is normal when its not busy...I guess?). However, we went on a not so typical evening (Friday night) and it was crowded, parking was full, but we still got a table. Nearly 1 hour later, we got our food (after I had to go up and "ask" about our food status). Of course, the staff are always nice / friendly and apologized profusely, but after talking to a few of the other customers, that we saw standing around for their "to go" order, we were not the only ones that had to wait nearly an hour for their food. Now, we DO understand that it's hard to find staff to work at food establishments (as Torchy's seems to be the only one that was crowded...besides Chick Fil A), but it's apparent that waiting nearly an hour for 6 tacos seems to be a bit too much. Sure, the food is really good, but at 45 dollars and I gave a tip when I paid (before getting our food); I am a bit stunned that there was not a mention of a REASON as to why the long delay? We were not the only one that had waited that long, which is concerning. I'm guessing that spending the time to drive a bit further into town and get better / quicker service at Subway, McDonalds or Wendy's and save a bunch of money; might be a viable option moving forward to feed my kids.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Torches is always a hit! I go for the shrimp tacos because they are perfection with some extra shrimp sauce on the side you can't beat it! This location is a cool vibe, wrap around parking!
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
Great tacos. Great workers. Fun atmosphere. Love the Torchy-tini. And of course the queso!

Steve E.

Yelp
As a fan of Torchys. When this location opened up it had some issues. Recently they have been fixed. The tacos have been solid lately. All portioned correctly and cooked like I expect. I really like the bar at this location and the patio is a great spot to hang out if the weather is nice. Proud of this location for stepping up their service I know it's not always easy opening a new location.

Scott J.

Yelp
This place had about 12 people eating lunch. Not busy at all. We ordered the churros, waited 35 minutes....then checked back to see how much longer we had to wait, the gentleman in charge cavalierly stated 'have you ever worked in a restaurant before?' And then informed us he just put in his two week notice. Did not care at all. Well...I'm familiar with fast-casual, and this place is a joke. Do not go here. Ever.
google avatar

Colleen J.

Yelp
Ugh. This location of Torchy's... well, you've seen the reviews. It's not their best work, the location seems to be understaffed and they just aren't the best at customer service. That being said, I've personally never had a terrible experience. Still love me some Torchy's, although I did notice recently that they raised their prices significantly - which ok I get, the "ecomony" blah blah blah but $4 a taco is high I'm just saying. They are at least pretty huge, so there's that. Moving on... The green chili queso is to-die-for. TO DIE FOR and I'm not shy about this one. I also love the trailer park taco with fried chicken - these are definitely my number one faves on the menu. Other than that the chorizo egg and cheese breakfast taco (which you can order any time of day by the way!) Is the bomb. So, in summary, give this location a chance despite the rough reviews. Their taco game is strong.

Stacey R.

Yelp
They are always quick getting orders out. Their queso is a must! So yummy! Wish the parking was a little better. Always full.

Dennis M.

Yelp
I don't know why this one is rated so poorly. The food's at least up to the Torch's par and their drink selection is even better.
google avatar

Glenn R.

Yelp
I've been a Torchy's fan since the first food truck on South Congress. I'm beginning to think that they're starting to be TOO successful. I was going to stop by the one on Slaughter Lane and Escarpment last weekend, but there was absolutely no place to park. I was driving out of town and saw this one in the new Belterra Shopping Center that I'd never been to. Since there was parking, I decided to stop here. It was lunch time and although not as busy as the other location, there was a pretty good line. It would have moved a lot faster if there was more than one person taking orders though. There was another person working the take-out counter, but just one person during the height of lunchtime on a weekend? That's just not great customer service. My taco was pretty good, as usual. However the experience was marred by the obvious lack of care. Perhaps they shouldn't worry about catching Starbuck's and make sure each location is operating properly before opening another.

Meredith F.

Yelp
I have eaten at the bar, I have went through the line to get my food, and I have had food delivered from Torchy's in the last three months. All of these occasions were excellent. The food was good, the drinks were good, the service was good. I am glad to announce to Belterra and surrounding area, Torchy's has turned it around.
google avatar

Ling K.

Yelp
I give up.... I keep giving this place a chance hoping it will get better. Com'mon Yelp, give us the option for ZERO stars! Asked the cashier if they still had the portobello mushroom taco. It wasn't on the menu but possibly it was placed on the secret menu? Her response "I guess not". @_@ Wow.... Can ya ask your manager... The service isn't like Chik-Fil-A. Ordered: 2 fried avocado tacos. Wanted black beans instead of refried. Missionary Mr. Orange Guac and chips Cashier repeated the order - got it correct. Sat outside. Received the guac and chips in about 5 minutes. 20 minutes later still waiting for food. Finally received the food. Wait time was under 30 minutes. Was it a dinner rush - no. It was 8:30pm. Was it crowded inside or outside - no. Was there a long line in front of us to order - only 2 couples. Was there anyone behind us - no. Was it a weekend - no. Soooo hungry by now. Looked down and the fried avocado tacos has refried beans - UGH! Looked on the receipt and she input refried beans......I didn't look at the receipt but assumed it was correct because the cashier repeated my order correctly. I didn't bother have them change it because I waited so long. Both the tacos were cold and the lettuce was warm. I couldn't eat both of them. It just grossed me out. Mr. Orange - the salmon was less than 1/2 inch thick. Over cooked and it was like salmon jerky. The taco was soooo salty it was inedible and it was cold. Missionary - the fried corn tortilla was soggy. I thought it was because of the juices of the meat - no. The edges of the shell was soggy. It was sitting around for awhile. My friend went up and asked the cashier for more chips. She said that they ran out. I thought "no way". I went and asked one of the folks, who deliver the food to the tables, if they REALLY ran out of chips because the cashier told us. The young man said "let me take care of it". He came back with a basket full of chips. @_@ By that time I was irritated because nothing was going right. I told him "What a biotch" and I thanked him. The bartender over heard and wanted to know what was going on. I told him. He said that the cashier was new and probably didn't look. I told him that the cashier should had checked with someone. Bartenders response "Yeah, you're right". @_@ I've also ordered Torchy's through DoorDash and the food wasn't correct or it's a mess. Got a refried bean taco and it looks like someone stepped on it. If you didn't know any better, if you look at the staff on S. Lamar, you might think "Uh......." BUT they give THE BEST SERVICE and FOOD hands down!!! Always cheerful and making sure your order/food is good and correct. The kids working at the Belterra Village location are just privileged and really don't give a crap. Yeah, it's a drive to the S. Lamar location, but that place NEVER fails me. I'm tired of wasting my money at the Belterra location.
google avatar

Sandra W.

Yelp
Definitely in Austin classic. My favorite is the fried avocado taco but the Baja shrimp is a close second. My son likes the Democrat. Parking and seating are very easy especially in the current times. This location also has a bar so once in awhile I will meet a friend here for a quick beer. You won't be disappointed.... So tasty you will definitely come back for more
google avatar

Pete V.

Yelp
I feel I need to preface this by saying that I love Torchy's and have been patronizing them since they opened in 2006. However, this location has some serious issues that make it unrecognizable from Torchy's brand my family has come to know and love. 1) I've had two separate occasions recently where the wait time for food was longer than one hour, both online and in store...after checking online we decided to check it out in person only to find the wait time was not a mistake. This Torchy's is not THAT busy. 2) the last two times we went there (April 2019), they were sold out of guacamole. Today, Easter eve, they were sold out of not only guac, but queso AND chips. Wtf?? Blame it on the post-Easter rush, or whatever, but this kind of poor-planning is damn near a felony in Texas. 3) our to go order tonight couldn't survive the 5 min drive into Belterra without the bag with two tacos in it ripping open and the taco juice leaking all over my wife's shirt. To the owner of this Torchy's location; you have the greater Dripping Springs/Cedar Valley area depending on you. We are hoping for an improved experience in the future.
google avatar

W S.

Yelp
The tacos are okay but holy hell are they SLOW. Also, having to order at the bar instead of the cash registers sucks since there's no clear line and customers will order out of turn. Lastly, would it kill them to offer WiFi for their customers?

Bianca D.

Yelp
Soooo yummmyy! Service was great and we have no complaints. We ordered the trailer park one and made it trashy! So good
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
Not a huge fan of the Dripping Springs location. Overpriced, small, greasy, slow. We've had to deal with management before due to incorrect orders and they weren't super nice or easy to deal with. We've had better experience with the location on Burnett Road.

Sabbir T.

Yelp
Horrible. Placed my order right accross the street for two tacos a little after 7 pm. Its now 7:30 and i'm still parked in the to go spots waiting for my food. This is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a to go order. Had i known it would take this long i would have never placed the order. Actually picked this cuz i was on a time constraint but i'm pretty damn upset right now. Update i waited 5 more minutes then called. Gave her all my info she was like no i dont see u in here. So i may have called the wrong location but either way it promted me to walk in. I told the guy my name n he said oh yeah i see u it was supposed to be ready at 7:20 (mind u it is 7:40) so let me go and check if its ready. Sure enough he walks back out with it in hand. What is the damn point of the to go parking if yall dont even bring out the order. The food is cold and i'm furious. This is totally unacceptable horrible customer service
google avatar

Temenah C.

Yelp
I heard a lot about Torchy's prior to visiting Austin. Mostly that it's a must try if you're in the area. We were leaving Texas Hill Country after some wine drinking and, perfectly, drove by Torchy's. I haven't been to other locations, but this one is a decent size. Also, I love that there's a bar right in the middle of the restaurant. The queso is on point. Probably some of the best queso I've had in a while. It had a little heat to it, but not enough to make you sweat or anything. I had a breakfast taco and it was pretty big. I was able to eat one and get full (with the side of queso). I wish the eggs were seasoned a bit more, like, just a little salt and pepper-nothin' crazy. But, it was good. The service was outstanding. I'm a fan.
