The Best Sushi Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"“Strip mall sushi” isn’t an insult at this quart-sized Burien restaurant. The service is crisp and thoughtful — the water has citrus in it — and there’s an omakase option on the menu if you’re looking to really get into it. Most diners are going to go a la carte here though, in which case don’t miss out on the Ora King salmon (a particular breed of New Zealand salmon) that is fatty and rich while still having a pleasantly firm texture." - Harry Cheadle

Google
Tried going to Kaihana because it was closer to home and said it was open. When I got there there were a few cars in the lot, but the door was still locked! With a quick Google search I found Tori Sake & Grill as an option for my sushi craving. I've been to quite of a few Japanese/Sushi restaurants around Seattle and back in Hawaii'i and this place did not disappoint when it came to the quality of their fish. At the recommendation of our server weI ordered the Rendezvous - 12 Sashimi, 12 Nigiri a Spicy Bluefina Tuna roll and 2 Miso Soups - EVERYTHING was delicious! Generous portions and friendly service.

Talk to Kevin when you go. He can let you know how busy they are. This is one of our new favorites. I know they've been around a while, but we've started discovering Burien! The sushi here is top notch as well as other Japanese dishes. Can't rave about them enough!

Google
Me and my boyfriend have come here a few times already and everything we order hits every time! So good, so fresh and plating is always on point! It is always so worth driving down here. The atmosphere is very lively with good music, and the auntie who always takes orders is the sweetest! She is so welcoming and generous. She remembers us as regulars (even though we have come here like 3 times) and even remembered my mom and the rest of my family when we took them here for her birthday. We will always come back! This recently has been our go to spot for sushi 🥰🍣

Google
Always have an absolutely wonderful experience here. I came before in a group and we also finished everything before taking pics lol. I was craving this today and decided to come solo today and same great consistency with the food and service. One of the most welcoming restaurant atmosphere in the area. Finally food is very fresh - highly recommend!

Google
Great sushi spot in Burien! This was our first time dining at Tori Sake & Grill, and we were pleasantly surprised to find such a nice Japanese restaurant in Burien. We decided to skip the sashimi and nigiri this time and went for three of their special rolls: the Lion King, TNT, and Eel-Electric Delight. All three rolls were flavorful and beautifully plated. The TNT had a good level of heat, the Lion King was rich and creamy, and the Eel-Electric Delight had a great mix of sweet and savory with crispy textures. The presentation was lovely, and the atmosphere was casual but stylish. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. We'll definitely be back to try more next time!

Google
This is the type of place that they need more than 5 stars for. Everything was amazing. It started with the biggest greeting in the world when we opened the door. We were immediately seated even though the place was near capacity. There was one server working the dining area and she was incredible! Everyone had refills and was getting phenomenal service. Friendly conservation, fast food service. You probably want to hear about the food though. Tuna-mite roll was a mouthful of perfection. Cucumber salad had all the right sour and sweet notes. Eel was perfectly done in the rolls. And the seared tuna nigiri? There aren't words. This place is an amazing gem and despite all this fabulous experience, it's a really good price as well. Full up on a Thursday night says it all. I'll be back again and again.

Google
We just discovered Tori after our previous go-to sushi restaurant was closed. How fortunate, Tori is excellent! Not only is the service top notch, but the atmosphere is great as well. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door. Great music was played adding to the warm atmosphere. The food was fantastic. The 36 piece option is impressive. They also have a decent selection of Japanese beers, over a dozen choices. This will now be our new go-to sushi spot in Burien!

Google
My wife and I have been to many sushi places within the greater Seattle area, and this place is our favorite. The big name brands don't even compare. The small town homey vibe, paired with the quality of fish, can not be out done. When you drive by, the outside might be something you would dismiss, but the quality of the dishes, the welcoming service, and free parking can not be beat. We have been coming here for years, and they continue to expand their menu and keep us coming back for more

Yelp
Tucked into a humble strip mall in Burien, Tori Sake & Grill surprises with warm, attentive service that makes every visit feel like coming home. The space is cozy and charming, and it fills up fast reserving ahead is smart . Now, the sushi: chef's choice omakase, Rendezvous platter, or just fresh rolls they all melt in your mouth with exceptional freshness and presentations. And for uni lovers if you're lucky enough to get it, Fridays are your golden ticket to creamy, non-fishy uni heaven stellar sushi, family-style service, and a vibe that makes Burien feel like a sushi secret worth discovering.

Yelp
Wow! What a place--all the stars for Tori Sushi. The minute you step inside you are greeted by the friendliest staff ever. We were served top notch by Jeanette--FABULOUS!!! They take such pleasant and attentive care of you, your order and anything you might need. We had the sea salt edamame to start with some hot sake. The attention to detail is amazing--they even placed a napkin holder tightly around the hot sake so it's easy to handle. We then had TNT and Hamachi Hooray--both fantastic. And then we added hamachi nigiri and tuna nigiri. Yummy! Needless to say we will be back before our trip to Seattle is over.

Yelp
Had dinner here with my husband. We ordered the beef yakisoba and dragon maki. The yakisoba had a nicely balanced sauce and a good amount of beef. It unexpectedly came with a scoop of rice, which actually went well with the dish. The dragon maki was tasty and nicely presented. However, the service was slow. The restaurant wasn't busy, but it took quite a while for someone to take our order--we almost walked out. After the meal, we had to wait again to get the check, which was frustrating. The food was good, but the service definitely needs improvement.

Yelp
Great sushi, and great service! I was traveling from the east coast, and I'm glad I found them. I know good sushi, and they deliver. I'm going to be back later this month, and I will definitely visit again!

Yelp
Call and reserve their omakase! It's limited to 3 a day and it's soooo worth it. It's hugeeee and only $50. The owners super nice and very welcoming each time I come as well! My husband and I got too much food the last time even about each was sooo unique and beautifully presented. Will be coming back whenever I crave sushi.

Yelp
Wr had an amazing dinner last night at Tori Sake & Grill! It was a our first time being there and greatly enjoyed everything we had. We started with $5 Asahi which seriously cannot be beat! (Except by the $5 Kirin and $10 Orion tall boys also offered). Then we enjoyed a round of gyoza, which was also a steal at 8pcs for $6. Yes please. Finally we had to choose from their massive maki roll list. I mean, c'mon. That list is insane. Everything sounded good. Somehow we chose 3 rolls and an Oyakodon bowl for mains. My Black Widow roll was crazy delicious. The beet flakes are such a fun addition and so unique. My brother's Oyakodon was super peppery and we all stole a bite. He took half home and enjoyed it as breakfast this morning. Our server may have been the owner. Unsure, but she was on top of everything and greatest everyone like an old friend. So the ambiance was very welcoming. We fed four people for $100. You just can't do that anymore and I am so happy to have found this spot. We'll be back soon!

Brian M.

Yelp
Have been told to try this place out, have not eaten a lot of sushi. Servers were very nice and helped me with the menu. Ordered spicy California and bluefin tuna. For awareness Spicy California is spicy, and great. What a great juxtaposition between the spicy and the tuna! Definitely recommend stopping in, I know I will again.

Yelp
We've been to Tori multiple times, but our most recent visit--celebrating a friend's birthday--truly stood out and inspired me to finally leave a review. The staff went above and beyond! They were incredibly sweet and attentive to our party of six, making our friend (and all of us) feel special. The service was top-notch, and the food was as excellent. Thank you, Tori team! (I have included the tiny note and drawing the staff wrote to reserve the table. Very cute!)

Yelp
GREAT VALUE IN SUSHI This is Burian's best sushi restaurant for several reasons. First, the portions are big. Our combo tempura appetizer had four shrimp in it, whereas most sushi places only give you two. The ala cart sushi/sashimi menu offers you two nigiri or three sashimi, and the sashimi slices are big, I mean, HUGE! I've never seen anything like it. Look at the picture! Second, the prices for what you get are incredible. My decanter of hot saki was only $8.00, and everything else was very reasonable. and looking for sushi, stop in here. You won't be disappointed The servers are very nice. They always have a smile and a great demeanor. They are responsive for the most part, and our apps and drinks came out promptly. That being said, my only complaint would be that the main courses took a little longer than we expected. It's also time to remove the Christmas decorations. So, if you are in Burian, and looking for sushi, stop in here, you won't be dissapointed. Cheers!

Yelp
Super fresh fish with really thick slices of sashimi. I highly recommend the Tori chef's box. They are limit 3 per day for $50. To order, you'll have to call ahead and reserve this which is so worth it! The space is pretty small & cozy so I would recommend making a reservation or coming early.

Yelp
Found this restaurant on Yelp with a "$" sign and 4.5 stars when we were in Burien, so we gave it a try. However, the sushi we ordered were not worth for the price. I ordered the Rainbow, the size was small and the ingredients portion was small too. It was like sushi bought from a supermarket (not an Asian one). Water was not served until I asked, table was not cleaned up until some other clients came in waiting. So overall it was disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
Our go-to spot for family-friendly sushi. Sue and team are so incredibly kind and accommodating. Great food, drink, and service! Some restaurants are more "kid-tolerant" than "kid-friendly", but Sue goes above and beyond to make sure our kids enjoy their meals so it's a great dinning experience for the whole fam. So lucky to have her in the Burien community!
google avatar

Vianca P.

Yelp
Visiting SeaTac area for the football game and was craving some sushi. Street parking and a parking lot were available, so ample parking. The vibe is quiet, but they had awesome 80s classics playing so I couldn't (nor could the table beside me) stop singing along with the tunes! I enjoyed the miso soup and the house cold sake. Unfortunately, my calamari was dry and overcooked. They offered to recook, bur I declined. The roll I chose was the Sunday Morning roll, with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado, and deep fried. was pretty good! Glad I stopped in on my visit!

Yelp
Ok, so it's been a while since I have posted anything new to Yelp..... Well, I went to a new to me, Sushi restraint in Burien. It was suggested I come and try it with my daughter and son in law.. So I did!! Now I am by no means a Sushi Snob in anyway, but holy crud... It was AWESOME!!!! Tori Sake & Grill is a small establishment, very clean and tidy. The staff is very warm and welcoming as well. Four of us came and ate and ate and ate some more until we could do no more. It was AWESOME! The freshness and the flavors were incredible. The presentation was, for me, out of this world! I truly enjoyed every single bite, so did the rest of us! While we chose what we wanted to eat the presentation is what made it all come together. Even the serving of the pickled ginger and wasabi was perfectly presented! We will be back, and I sincerely hope you will give them a try!

Yelp
Great food, awesome service, clean, nice atmosphere - great location, ample parking. We loved our waitress and food and service - Ordered a few rolls, hamachi kama, and the chirashi bowl and endless miso soup

Michael C.

Yelp
Came recommended from a family member. Did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I had a lot of nigiri and a few rolls. Everything was clean/fresh. Tasted amazing. Place was busy in a Thursday night. So make a reservation

Yelp
Pot Stickers are a must!! The food is great and very close to the airport. Fresh and delicious!!
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
This spot was amazing. The fish is extremely high quality and fresh, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is charming! We brought our toddler here and not only did they have high chairs and interact with him very sweetly, they had toddler plates and cups! It was perfect and made us feel welcomed. Honestly this place's food was also better than almost every sushi spot I've been to in downtown Seattle (japonessa, Memoji, wasabi). Definitely worth the drive out of downtown Seattle for this spot
google avatar

Jenn M.

Yelp
Everything was amazing and fresh and delicious!!! I also got the butter garlic edamame and cucumber salad. Not sure I would get the cucumber salad again. It was great but there are other things on the menu that I think I'll like more. So good. Agree with another poster that said it is better than seattles best places. I agree! I will drive here for my sushi from now on!
google avatar

Alva I.

Yelp
Best customer experience I've ever had. I felt as if I was apart of the family as soon as I stepped inside. I had called in to make a reservation and the lady on the phone was so kind and sweet. As a service provider myself, I really value customer care and kindness! The manager here runs a beautiful business and I can tell they are great staff. I am from out of town but just know I will be back for the food and for the staff. My group and I ordered a sashimi platter and some rolls. The chef was very attentive to us and answered our questions. The waitresses checked in on us all the time and asked if we had questions, they also have great recommendations. Amazing food and service. I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Raye T.

Yelp
Wish I could give this place a higher ranking because it has so much going for it. The quality of the fish is very good. The garlic butter edamame is delicious (although the portion is about half of what it was when they first opened). The service is really wonderful. But the katsu is... not good. The menu did not indicate that it would be covered with mozerella cheese... which we've never seen of heard of before. The tonkatsu sauce was also unusual, which wasn't expected. That whole dish was unfortunate. So, this is a good place to come if everyone plans on eating sushi/sashimi only.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
This continues to be my favorite place not just in Burien, but it's escalated to all Seattle & surrounding for sushi. They recently did a small remodel and have a center sushi bar, cozy booths, and the same super fresh sushi and excellent service. A must try!
google avatar

Joel L.

Yelp
Small very busy, seems to be a local shop with a cozy vibe. Good variety of food options from izayaka to more traditional edo sushi and everything in-between. Food was tasty fresh very clean no fishiness. I would expect to wait for your food because they get busy. Make a reservation.
google avatar

Leo C.

Yelp
Service - 5/5 very attentive and very friendly Atmosphere - 4/5 relaxed and chill atmosphere. Nothing special. It is not too small but not big either. Food - my fiancee ordered the chirashi and I ordered the 70 dollars omakase. Good decent slices of fish and my omakase presentation in the 3x3 box was very beautifully presented and larger than I expected! Good quality fish but I did not care for the purple rice that was paired with the chirashi and with my omakase. I prefer the traditional Japanese white rice. Each fish slices was so fresh. Highly recommend!

Evandro M.

Yelp
We googled for Uni and they were on top of the list. Too bad, they ran out of uni the night before. But it was alright because their sushi and sashimi and tempura is awesome. Will definitely go back.
google avatar

Warren W.

Yelp
Wow, Tori Sake & Grill is amazing. They have continued to improve their game and the new updated menu is super creative and extremely tasty. The food is top notch and delicious but what's even more important is the husband and wife who own and work the front of house and sushi bar. They are amazing, caring humans and a valued part of our South Sound and Burien community. If you haven't tried Tori out, you are missing out, big time! Give them a chance and like me you will become a regular, I guarantee it!
google avatar

Alanna S.

Yelp
The BEST sushi I have had in America. I love sushi, I've eaten a lot of sushi, and I can be picky. Every single roll I've tried here has been great! The cuts of fish are fantastic and high quality. The rolls are beautiful and creative. The service is so friendly and kind. This is absolutely my favorite sushi spot. Bonus - the table at the corner window has a great view of rainier and planes taking off on a clear day.
google avatar

Jeff N.

Yelp
I forgot which rolls these were called. They were all very good. Very friendly and clean. I've already came back here a few times.

Derek J.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Visiting from San Diego and stumbled upon this hidden gem right by the airport!
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first visit. We had meant to go for a long time but today it finally happened. The first pleasant surprise was a very warm welcome from the sushi chef. Super engaging guy with great energy. Next the decor was way better than I thought it would be. Very clean and kinda cool. For a small place on a tight budget they did a nice job. Now we come to the food. We each ordered the lunch special. One classic roll, four pieces of nigiri, and miso soup. The miso soup was ok but the rolls were so good! The star of the meal was melt in your mouth tuna. I think it was some of the best I've had outside of Hawaii. If you love sushi I highly
google avatar

Yelp
Great omakase box! Best bang for the buck option that I've found. It was delicious and definitely will be adding this place to the monthly rotation.
google avatar

Rikki N.

Yelp
Ordered to-go , two rolls. The Hamachi Hooray and the Lion King. Fresh, large and lots of fish. Very friendly service. Not cheap but not expensive. Will return.
google avatar

Inga D.

Yelp
Worth every penny. You can't get any better than real wasabi. Or so I thought. Their tuna, and salmon were so fresh that we ended up ordering it twice. We tried a couple rolls and ordered a sake that was very smooth and light. It paired well with the choices of fish we selected. The atmosphere was laid back but uplifting and friendly. It's a goldmine in the heart of burien. The service, was astounding. The lovely lady that runs it was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable in her fish. We will be coming back many more times. And I will be bringing our family and friends here with us!

Edward U.

Yelp
The service here was exceptional - everyone seemed happy to serve customers and were attentive. I liked the chicken roll since I do not eat seafood. I would recommend this place.
google avatar

Jessica I.

Yelp
Tori Sake & Grill has the BEST sushi rolls in the area and is hands down our favorite place to go out for dinner. The customer service is outstanding and the staff are friendly, attentive, and always quick to help with anything you may need. They recently updated their menu to include even more delicious rolls. The chefs take such care in preparing the sushi, every detail about the presentation of it is beautiful. The restaurant is always bustling around dinner time so I recommend making a reservation!
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Fantastic food and the best service around. The portions are generous and super fresh.

Tom P.

Yelp
Awesome food! Tempera Udon noodle was perfect, the rolls amazing, and even the chicken katsu was perfectly crisp but yet moist and full of flavor! Staff is very welcoming! Definitely would visit again!
google avatar

Bill L.

Yelp
Second time here and just as fantastic as I remember. I dare put it on the top of sushi restaurants in the Seattle area! Don't expect fancy surroundings, but you can expect high quality fish and creative menu offerings--the menu is not sparse, but not overwhelming (I need to make a point of ordering a different sushi roll for each visit). They have a good variety of Sakes and Japanese beers. And they have real wasabi! The lone waitress was (and is) very friendly and thorough... seemingly happy to make you happy and appreciative of any compliments. It isn't the cheapest and you can easily run up quite a bill, but if you can moderate, you'll find that the quality of the food is worth the price.
google avatar

Jenna Mae T.

Yelp
Most underrated sushi joint in WA!! Out of the many sushi places I tried from Bellevue to Tacoma, Tori takes the dang cake!! Consistently amazing tasting fish every single time. Staff is wonderful and everything is priced fairly! (pictured: beat to death roll and 12pc nigiri)
google avatar

Ian J.

Yelp
This review is based on multiple experiences spread over several months. At this point my wife and I eat here at least twice per month. The owners great us by name every time we arrive! The new remodel looks amazing and welcoming ! But honestly once you get passed the amazing customer service and comfortable accommodations the cuisine will blow you away! Not only is the presentation spectacular, it tastes even better than it looks. This place checks every box for us! They make you feel like family and they put love into everything they do! I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars because I would! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
Last time I was in Seattle , the best sushi on yelp brought me to Burien where I had Tomo...see my review , it was amazing I had to try Tori right down the street , equally as good!! They did not have a sushi bar which I enjoy coming alone, so I sat in a table . All the rolls and bluefin nigiri were great. Sake nice and hot, service was great she was so nice. Overall a great sushi meal and well priced. They get their bluefin from Spain and it was bomb. No compliants!!
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
Tori Sake & Grill is an excellent restaurant. The food is wonderful, but it's the husband & wife team that owns and operate the restaurant that makes it such an experience. Sujin, the wife, is hostess and often serves you. She is fun, warm, and remembers you. Since they opened they have been slowly developing the menu and decore to create a beautiful space & plate. Always check on the daily specials. It will range from a seasonal fish to fresh ground real wasabi. If you are in the south Seattle area and are able to eat fish, make sure to visit. They do have other non-sushi Japanese staples on their menu (like Yakitori), with the exception of Sundays when they are sushi & sashimi only w-limited apps. An extra bonus is they have a parking lot and are next door to "Lowrider Cookies."
google avatar

Hel C.

Yelp
i've come here a couple times already and each time i left satisfied with a happy belly :) i got their chirashi this time around and it was delicious. i can't exactly remember what the other sashimis were but the salmon & (i think) tuna were my favorite, i usually think tuna is stringy sometimes however that wasn't the case here as it was very smooth. the chirashi also came with complimentary miso soup and it was good! the server lady is also very attentive, making sure everything was okay :)
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
This place is huge inside! The employees were so kind when I was picking up my take out. The fish was super fresh. Their hand rolls were a bit pricey for one ($10). Not sure if it was worth it price, but everything about the flavor was high quality. The vegetables added a nice crunch to the hand roll without overpowering the taste of the salmon and fatty tuna (Forgot what the second hand roll was but pretty sure it was this lol). The sashimi pieces were huge! I would avoid the chicken teriyaki. My boyfriend was not a fan. Not enough sauce and chicken was dry.

Terra M.

Yelp
Everything I have had here is delicious and fresh. Amazing customer service. Riley for Riley roll, dragon roll, shrimp lovers roll are all also amazing.
google avatar

Wennie H.

Yelp
Service was super friendly, restaurant was busy but had a nice energy to it all. Place is small but quiet enough to have individual conversations and not hear everyone around you. Friend ordered the charashi bowl and liked it a lot. We both raved about how perfectly seasoned the rice was. Ordered the standard California maki (really good staple), bluefin maki (super fresh, cucumber had a crunch, definitely a favorite) and the hamachi maki (fresh and had jalapeno). Great experience, prices are fair. Will definitely come again.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
First off, the gal who takes calls, serves water, takes orders and clears plates is the friendliest and happiest person I've ever seen. She makes you feel so special when you come in and remembers your name. First impression? LOVE. We ordered a bunch of starters that were DELICIOUS. And the water served is orange water! Smells heavenly with tiny bits of fresh pulp. I would go back daily for this water. (Or make it myself... but that's no fun) For our "entrees" we ordered the fried California roll and the TNT roll. They did NOT disappoint! So fresh! And very large rolls! Personally I am not a big fan of sushi but my family loves it so when I found myself loving all the things I felt I needed to write a review! Ten stars.

Yelp
We were wonderfully surprised last night. We were staying overnight near SeaTac airport to catch a very early flight the next day. It was a miserable, cold snowy night and we were looking for a little sushi before dropping the car off at the ParkandRide. We would normally go to another spot over in Southcenter that we have been going to for years but this one came up with an extra half of a star and was 1 minute closer drive over in Burien. We weren't disappointed. Nothing fancy but the highest quality kanpachi and hamachi sashimi and delicious creamy, spicy scallop hand rolls. Unlimited tea and miso soup served by what I can only imagine was one of the owners. Very reasonably priced. Our only problem is that we had had a large lunch and weren't as hungry as we would have liked to be. Next time though. Even though Burien isn't around the corner for us anymore, I promise you we will find a way to get back soon. Lots of very imaginative rolls and other items to look forward to. We have been down on restaurant eating since the pandemic (high prices and mediocre food) but this place renewed our faith.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant twice, and have left happy and full both times! The presentation of the dishes are so colorful and gorgeous. The dish is so fresh and delicious. The agedashi tofu is fried perfectly and goes well with the mildly sweet sauce. I have never tried purple rice in sushi before, but it's delightful and pretty and yummy! The service was great and the waitress checked on us often to make sure everything was to our liking. I have 0 complaints, and will definitely be returning!
