The 10 Best Torta Restaurants In LA

"This torta shop has a cheeky name (a Mexican abuelita would not approve), but that’s part of the charm. This Paramount shop makes unapologetically huge tortas, so big they’re comical. And the sandwiches’ names lean into absurdity, too. There’s La Mamalona (expletive beep) that manages to fit grilled hot dogs, chorizo, ham, milanesa, and steak into a modest toasted telera roll. This meatpalooza spills out the sides and hangs into the bread by a thread of melted cheese, forcing you to eat this sitting down (and maybe wearing a bib.) Is it a bit much? Sure, but it’s delicious, especially with their spicy curitdo and punchy salsa roja." - sylvio martins

Tortas Chingonas Review - Paramount - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you have a sweet Mexican abuelita, saying this spot’s full name in front of her might earn you a smack on the head (spoiler alert: the second word is slang for “badss”). But we find the Paramount shop’s name and other cheeky menu items to be part of its unique charm. This spot’s carefree attitude is also seen in its tortas, which are unapologetically huge, stuffed to the brim, and absolutely delicious. For example, their massive La Mamalona (censor beep*) torta is so big that you might have to split it with Abuelita herself. After the soft telera roll is toasted, the sandwich is stuffed with fresh carne asada, breaded steak, sliced ham, spicy chorizo, hotdogs, avocado, queso fresco, and jalapenos. If you’re interested in a more sweet/savory combo, the La Muy Muy torta (rated PG) has crispy breaded steak, ham, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and its key ingredient: pineapple. We understand that pineapple on pizza is a touchy subject, but just trust us and give this tasty torta a try during your next lunchtime adventure." - Sylvio Martins

Google
I was so excited to order the plate of carnitas and burrito for my daughter. When I started eating, I noticed that they didn't give us any salsa or anything like they would in any Mexican places I've been - food tasteless, bland needs more seasoning. For $27 not worth it, II regretted getting food here.

Bee’s Adventures

Google
I’m going to say it’s ok it’s pretty big bit oily for my taste and gets very messy lol If you like it big and messy this is your place .

Google
We order 2-tortas the food taste old and for 22.00 dollars each torta. The ham and the sausage were the lowest and sheap grade you could buy at the store. The salsas were salty and the chiles con sanahorias taste old and almost rotten. I love food but this place was discusting did not finish the torta no because i was hungry i did not finish not even half because it was nasty

Martin Mendoza

Google
These tortas are huge, they easily feed two people. La DF torta was really good. The birria consome was alright. My only takeaway is that they have a real fly problem in there and the items in the salsa bar were not fresh, the radishes and cucumbers looked like they had been there for a while. I would order to go. The dine-in experience was not good.

Google
It's okay, lady at front was kinda rude. Looked super pissed off like she hated life. Food is just okay. prices are crazy expensive for a torta. I was expecting crazy big portions and a better value.was definitely disappointed 😞

Google
This location is at a busy intersection where there is absolutely no parking anywhere. I had to park at an alley because there is no assigned parking lot. I purchased 2 Tortas and 1 burrito and they charged me $51 for 3 items. I don't mind paying that amount if the food was Finger-Licking Good, but it was just okay. I do not see myself going back to this location ever again

Google
Small place, but very tasty food, the tortas are delicious, their hard birria tacos and consomé was delicious. The one thing that people will have a problem with is minimal to no parking.

Loris Pesante-Reyes

Google
Amazingly delicious food and very friendly service. Just wish they let you know in their website that they only take cash. Parking is difficult in this location also. Huge servings if your are starving or sharing. Overall great service. La birria de chivo Omg!! Delicious 😋

Yelp
Sandwiches here are humongous. We were able to split one and still be full. Place is not fancy but service was good and quick. We were in and out pretty fast. Torta was packed with meat. Good bang for your book. Definitely a must try.

Yelp
First time here!!! And i already know I'll be back! I had "LA CHILANGA" i could not finish it. Ambiance was clean and well organized. And very friendly service!!! See you guys soon!

Yelp
First time trying this place. First thing is parking, very limited. I think I parked in the drive with multiple other spots. Not sure if they share spots with the business near by. Now! For the torta. My oh my. That torta was a burst a flavor. So much going on, but still made it a good torta. I had the, "La Mamalona" and it was loaded! I had it pre ordered via phone and was all ready to go. The only thing that took time was zelle. Yes, this business is cash only or Zelle. So do with that what you want. Still do recommend this place for any foodie wanting to try something new and flavorful.

Yelp
Hands down to this place ! The Tortas are super delicious ! I tried the Hawaiiana and it was just so tasty ! I also tried La Mamalona which comes with different meats and you can taste them all in one bite! They have a pretty fast service and the place feels calm and enjoyable The prices are a little high but super worth it one Torta fills up two people ! Come try this place out NOW! Rate : 10/10

Yelp

Yelp
If you are looking for a legit torta place, you have found it. I half Mexican and all honesty am not too fond of the typical torta. Haven't had one in about 10 years. Yesterday in an attempt to appease an out of towner, we went in search of one. This spot came up on yelp. It is on a busy street and honestly looks pretty sketch from the outside. We found street parking and walked in. There is a Cash Only sign near the register and an atm for your convenience we ordered La Lambada Torta. No regrets. I don't like chipotle or onions so I ordered without but it was amazing. Huge! Food coma for the rest of the afternoon. Flavorful. I definitely would come back again. Love me a good hole in the wall with delicious food.

Yelp
¡Qué rico está esto! Tortas Chingonas is not just a name--it's a promise, & hombre, do they deliver! The birria meat plate is the star of the show for me. Roasted for hours, the meat is so tender & juicy it feels like it's been slow-dancing with flavor all day & nite. Every bite melts in your mouth & leaves you wondering if you'll ever eat anything as good again. The sides? Eccentric & unforgettable. Think bold spices, unique textures, & combos that make you nod in appreciation. They don't just sit there--they complete the birria like a great partner in crime. The vibe of this spot matches the food: bold, fun, & unapologetically delicious. If you're not already running to try it, well, you're missing out. Tortas Chingonas will have you saying, "¡Esto sí es vida!"

Yelp
Big filling Torta combinations. Great to share or have on your own if you are starving. They are CASH ONLY!!
google avatar

Yelp
Very welcoming, ladies greeted us and didn't hesitate to help us with our order. This my second time here in came back for a Torta DF I was shocked by the size meat was tender and so many flavors con la salsita roja you start your day off right here!
google avatar

Jimmy S.

Yelp
The La Chingona Torta is massive! The amount of meat and ingredients packed in it makes it almost two meals worth of a torta. The amount of meat was decent and it had pierna, milanesa, jamon, chorizo, salchicha & bacon. It seemed to go together well except for the size of it being unable to eat neatly. The service was good and the staff was nice. There's no AC and the parking is a bit tough to find. It's connected to a money wiring service and whatnot.
google avatar

Maximiliano D.

Yelp
The good is that the La Cubana Torta was good, as well as the birria tacos and consome. The bad thing is that this place doesn't accept card payment, only cash and Zelle. We also got La Mamalona Torta and it didn't turn out great as expected. Place is averagely quiet, almost no one at this restaurant. Possibly might come back. 5 out of 10

Yelp
Pretty please great food great people have nothing to complain about just the parking sucks ass cause there's no parking
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely loved the tortas here! Great food! Called my order in & was ready when i got there! definitely ready!

Yelp
Los tacos estaban buenos pero la tortilla muy seca siento que esta comida no la hacen con Amor.
google avatar

Suvanna M.

Yelp
This was really bad. I don't even know how they could serve it. It even wasn't just a bite it was many others. Do you like chewing plastics, go ahead.

Yelp
This day was funny cause somehow my husband had dreamt and craved of a Torta and so he had asked me if I knew a place where they make the best tortas. I told him that I shall look around and try a new place for us. What sold us was the name of the place "Tortas Chingonas" well why not, so here we were. They don't have a parking lot but you do have to park on the streets. It is a very small place, they do have seatings. I had actually thought my husband was gonna get the Mamalona or la chingona torta but I guess to start of trying our new place out with the simplest. So he ordered himself a Torta de asada and I got myself a burrito de Labio. I loved it and everything in that burrito had flavor. They also have a Salsa stand.. all you can eat salsas. My husband ate all the torta so he says he loved it and for sure next time he will try the Chingona one. The cook she was very welcoming and very charismatic, made us feel like we were back at home. For a Monday it wasn't busy. I enjoyed our visit and promised we would be back some other day to try their massive Tortas. And also, this place is Cash Only.

Yelp

Yelp
The food taste like old reheated meat and has an oil after taste. Doesn't taste fresh.
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Not bad but, not great! I got the "La Chingona" torta to split with my boyfriend & he got two tacos de cabeza on the side. The tortas are HUGE but in our opinion, the meat was not flavorful. Thankfully the veggie ingredients inside the torta were fresh. If I had to give a rating from 1-5, I'd give it a 2.5 rating. Too much meat inside that you can't even enjoy the flavor. The salsas offered were not flavorful either. Good service though, they were quick! Unfortunately, I wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
I tried the La DF torta. It is very good and filling. They have a salsa bar that offers a habanero salsa. I recommend it if you're into habanero. They only take cash or zelle. The service and food was great.

Its M.

Yelp
Had the torta de asada super good and filling. This place is cash only so be prepared. Service is nothing to brag about and the place is a bit warmer side indoor. Def worth a shot

Yelp
Que mal maneje 40 mts segun sierran alas 9 y llegue 8:15 en domingo y ya no me quisieron vender nada muy mal servicio

Yelp
Fast service Food was delicious Would go again with family and friends places was small but I was pack I order ahead and my food was ready upon arrival

Yelp
Lets be honest. Its a gimmick. Giant Tortas(yes they are literally huge) are the equivalent of 5lb Burritos and 3ft long subs. Its their thing, I get it. But they would rather sell 1 $20 tortas than 20 $8 tortas? I mean other than IG worthy pix, what you really gonna do with the rest of it? I legit can barely eat half, sometimes. You cant eat it later or re-heat it because of the condiments and soggy bread. Taste wise they are good, not great. Not the GOATS of Tortas, but was yummy. Service is what it is. Cash only, its small mexican joint so no dont expect a smile and having your a$$ kissed. Its order & pick-up at counter. Place is not very welcoming, not very clean but not complaining about that. Ambiance is divey, at your own risk. haha Took my chances against food poising and came out victorious.

Yelp
Humongous tortas and Insta worthy if that what you are looking for. If it's not about the unique experience and you want the best torta around, I'm not sure this is the place. I tried the Chingona and it was the size of my head with everything but the kitchen sink in it. Some highlights were the bread, ham, sausage and chorizo. Unfortunately, some of the other items tasted dry, like they sat around a while. I also tried a few tacos de asada and Al pastor and again tasted a little dry. The flavors were there, so I think time of day has a lot to do with it. Salsa bar was nice and the green was the best of three. Lemons, cucumbers, radishes, onions and cilantro was plentiful. I was too full to try some of the other tortas, but heard similar for the milanesa and asada tortas. If I wasn't far away, I would like to give them another try. I guess we will have to wait and see about the updated rating :)

Yelp
This was a Channel 5 News Burrous Bites segment YEARS ago and I finally made it... Is $23 for a Torta expensive? Not when it's literally the size of a baby's head and can easily feed TWO people. Is it the best Torta I've ever had? No, but I also have ZERO bad things to say about it, CASH ONLY enjoy the photos! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=9AokRm88U1QfMMJAE2q_fg https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=CfG8hmBRE_YM9wbwvcy-0w https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=l3GHjtSAmGAlIcIolfH7rQ La Mamalona ($23.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=r4A39CbFkhpwFXLEAKOWKw Carne Asada, Milanesa de Res, Chorizo, Bacon, Sausage aka Hot Dog, Avocado, Cheese, Jalapenos https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=AwkHseuiUoMvTJhOjg6thw all STUFFED in a telera roll, open wide https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tortas-chingonas-paramount-4?select=5lxx_-jTKFoEa0ulYd82GA

Yelp
We went there we never got to try the food but the food on yelp seems to be ok. The service is ok i guess we ask if there was parking the lady attending was a smart ass and just say u see all of this people they coulnt find parking neither. The restaurant its small wich makes the ambience ok. But to anyone that goes there beware no pk and if you park on the side mall shop they will tow your car.
google avatar

Maribel A.

Yelp
When I say the tortas are huge omg they are huge I didn't believe and we ordered 2 I ate less then a quarter of it and was stuffed my husband had leftovers he never has leftovers i never have leftovers because he usually eats my leftovers but not here huge maybe first time here just share one lol

Lizeth T.

Yelp
I've been here several times and over the course of time the quantity and quality of the food has not been the same. The prices are outrageous and they no longer serve the same amount of food. I was also highly disappointed to know the food isn't freshly made when ordered. They only accept cash which is such an inconvenience. The service is just okay. It's a bit difficult to find parking but they do have tables to sit at inside. Wish it was worth it like it use to be before.
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Great place for hang over definitely. I ordered a torta and it was massive. Needed to save half. The service was good and the ladies are helpful.
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Very urban spot, not for the trend setter, more of a local dive. Partly food, check cashing. VERY pricey, $23.00 for a torta (Mexican sandwich), especially for how divey the place and surroundings are, if you're looking for a hipster spot this is not the place for you. Ordered the signature La Mamalinga and it was very good and tasty and huge.

Dafne C.

Yelp
La comida está deliciosa, la señora y el muchacho que atienden muy atentos. Definitivamente un buen lugar para comer cuando visitas Los Ángeles. Volveremos definitivamente!
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
Warning: the tortas are HUGE!!! I ordered the torta "chingona" and it was massive!! I was only able to get through half of it! I love the toasted bread they used and the generosity when it comes to the meat. Usually other places are stingy with meat in tortas and this place is very generous when assembling it and I appreciate that!! they have a red and green salsa and I would have liked for them to be spicy. I personally love spicy salsa so I was a little disappointed when I poured it on my torta and it was not spicy. I recommend the red salsa, it is very flavorful!! If you love tortas, I definitely recommend this place!!
google avatar

Joseph V.

Yelp
Delicious. Half the torta is already filling. I'd give it 5 stars but the thing is they only accept cash and I had to use the atm.
google avatar

Kenneth L.

Yelp
God damn so big. We ordered 4 for 5 people due to the reviews and have some pretty big eaters. We had 1 full torta left over! It was like a workout just to finish one! Either way - definitely a must visit if you are into eating food as big as your face Bring accurate change (cash only) There is some outdoor stools
google avatar

F H.

Yelp
One problem where parking not enough room ,let you know this restaurant t not accpect any credit ONLY CASH
google avatar

Ms. B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and would definitely recommend the Tortas. They're not stingy on their portions. Very clean place, very friendly service and all around a great place to stop by.
google avatar

Joyce A.

Yelp
I have to say, these tortas are impressive in size and packed full of meats and flavor. There is a tiny alley I front of the store and today a tow truck took up much of the space. I parked in the next driveway since the business there seems to have shut down. I ignored their tow away zone signs. Two sandwiches and a Mexican coke set me back $38 - cash or Zelle payments ONLY. La DF had shredded pork, ham, queso fundido, sausages and egg stuffed into regular sized torta bread, plus lettuce, jalapeños, avocado and mayo. The La Chilanga Torta has the same meats minus the hotdogs and egg. The milanesa is a tender piece of chicken fried steak. The shredded pork is called pierna on the menu. They do the pierna well as it is moist and tender, pork can tend to be dry and chewy otherwise. I plan on deconstructed torta for the next two meals. 4 people shared the two sandwiches and I still have some leftovers.
google avatar

Priscilla P.

Yelp
Oh my, husband brought me there to try out the tortas, so good and the service was fast . Ambiance was amazing!
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
I been hearing about this places from many friends who has been here many times so I decided to give a try since I was in the area. The tortas here are not like your ordinary tortas you get from other establishments, they are huge & have a different twist like chorizo added & a combination of other meat.
google avatar

Fernando H.

Yelp
Just had the Asada torta it was $17. It was big but not filing or tasty. The meat wasn't really seasoned. I think that torta is way over priced for what you get. I don't think I will be returning.

Patty R.

Yelp
I used a food delivery service to get my order so I can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant. My husband got a Chilanga torta and it was good. The asada steak was bland, but the other ingredients gave it flavor. The asada tacos and asada torta were supremely disappointing. The meat was tough and flavorless. The chicharrón tacos were tasty. It's okay at best.

Alberto V.

Yelp
Good tasting food. Very generous portion good for sharing. Meat on torta tasted fresh
google avatar

TinaMarie K.

Yelp
This place was all I was hoping for and more! This was my first time here but definitely not my last. I ordered the Chilanga torta. It is enough for 2-4 people to be honest. They were super friendly and the Torta was so good. Looking forward to going again soon. PS... CASH ONLY
google avatar

Franklin M.

Yelp
We were hungry and hadn't eaten breakfast and stopped by to purchase a veggie breakfast burrito with all the fixings except meat. I paid $9 for the big burrito and added the hottest red salsa they had available which wasn't too hot at all. We loved the flavor, fresh ingredients, and soft flour tortilla but missed out on asking the cook to add onions.

Amairany G.

Yelp
So I've been here before. And the tortas are very good. They are huge and good price for the size. My only complaint is that we were there yesterday & the girl taking my order was so rude. We would ask a question & she would nod her head & rolled her eyes. She had a terrible attitude. There was a number you can call & complaint but I didn't get the number. I understand when you have to get a job even if you don't like it but it is not the customers fault. We didn't come in there with an attitude. We came there friendly and we did our best to not have to ask questions. At the end I didn't give them 5 stars for that. I believe they need to work on customer service. The lady who cooked the food was actually nice but the one who customers have to deal with was not and that's a turn off. I hope she gets it together and starts to have a decent attitude.
google avatar

Magno P.

Yelp
If you are super hungry and want something to fill you up then come here and have their amazing tortas!! The tortas are stacked and full of flavor. They have milanesa which is superbly cooked and flavorful. They add fresh ingredients such as avocado, lettuce, tomato and jalapeños. They have an amazing salsa bar that has many choices for your torta. I got pineapple with my torta as well. Come check them out and give them a try.

Remy C.

Yelp
They do not update the menu, so it a real bummer, especially when ordering online. The food is ok
google avatar

Maris C.

Yelp
Really good. We got the asada torta their signature torta. High recommend the asada. Didn't give all five stars because It was missing the jalapeños.
