We stopped in for lunch today. It was our first visit here. They were extremely busy. But, they still managed to fit us in to one of two empty tables and the service was quick. The food was hot and fresh. I snagged a bite of the enchilada before I snapped the picture, but the platter full serving of my lunch plate was way more than I could eat. My husband, the tamale snob, thoroughly enjoyed his combo and stated this was the best pork tamale he has found in Springfield. The chips and salsa were good and we felt the pricing was fair. We found out they sell tamales by the dozen. That will make our Texas tradition of Christmas Eve tamales much easier on me this year! We will definitely be back.

A friend shared on Facebook this location as one of their favorites. So the next time that I was in town I made my way to this restaurant. Son Jesus and mother Maria Perches opened in 2005 and plan on celebrating their 20 years this summer. Maria’s famous family recipes from Mexico along with their personalities and their staff many people come from far away and local. With the trophies on display in the restaurant, they have been able to help many families have fun through sports. When I got there the restaurant was packed, they have (I believe) 5 dining areas. They also have their own beer and salsa. If you want traditional and true Mexican food please make it to this family restaurant.

Not only were we served a subpar child’s hamburger that left us wondering where the meat came from, but we were served tamales with molded husks… the manager not only thought this was ok as he defended this is a condescending way, but thought it was ok to serve tamales in molded husks, but that it was ok to impersonate a health inspector without giving me his name… i asked repeatedly and was told it can be found on the website… that’s awesome…never going there again and advised our local police station that if they want to eat, not to eat there… i advise the same of you… find another place.

The rice and beans are very flavorful. The salsa was a good consistency and has an excellent flavor as well. The cheese dip was thick and rich I personally am not a fan of thin and runny cheese dip. I got the Chilaquiles with salsa Verde. It was just as good as homemade. I can't wait to come back and try something new.

Google
Great atmosphere & very friendly & welcoming staff. The meat was tough on the tacos & kind of bland. I love the concept of the taco flights ❤️❤️ The margarita flight was good!

Google
I used to like this place honestly… my daughter used to go to the Daycare right next to it so I ate there pretty frequently. But I just have to say whoever the health inspector is that works there…. Wouldn’t give his name. lol was extremely rude to my wife when she pointed out a few things. Like mold on her tamale….. and the fact that my daughter’s hamburger look like a seven year old bottom of the barrel patty. And I had Carne Asada, which is normally skirt steak normally doesn’t have bones at all. And normally in Texas, they marinate their Carne Asada. Apparently they do not hear. Please be careful. The margarita was decent.. and the service was OK.

Google
We experienced Tortilleria Perches as catering for a wedding this past weekend! Oh my goodness the absolute best food! They had the food ready for a little bit before time to serve however everything was kept warm and fresh as if it hadn’t been waiting a while! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The tacos and cheese dip were phenomenal! I can’t wait to try their restaurant!

Yelp
My favorite place in town. Fabulous people and great food. The enchiladas are the best. Love the fish and the pastor tacos.

Yelp
Great food, super friendly service and a good place for groups. Nice place for TVs too. Lots of parking and some outside space.

Yelp
Food is not the best cheese dip so bad and don't have sone of the stuff that's on the menu

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
I am just visiting Springfield from Arizona where I eat lots of Mexican food. The waitress came immediately with chips an salsa (very mild). She recommended the fish taco plate. It was very good. Two street tacos with grilled fish and a few fresh jalapeños. The chipotle sauce added plenty of zip, but not too much. The rice and refried beans were good.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING in every way! Best authentic Mexican food we've ever eaten. We heard about TP for years from our son, Sam & wife, while in their college days. They raved about it! They spoke highly of Maria & Jesus, the owners. So of course we had to try it when we visited the area. My husband & I finally understood why they loved this place! Good service, delicious fresh food & nice atmosphere. I showed a picture of Sam & his wife to Maria, & she recognized them! Our shredded beef chimichanga dinners were incredible & a generous portion at that! My hubby enjoyed tasting the various salsas. For dessert, we had the best sopapillas, so fresh & tasty. We cannot wait to visit again.

Yelp
Amazing, loved this place so much. Service was awesome, attentive but not overbearing. I cannot believe one of the reviews on here says the food isn't flavorful. I had the enchiladas dinner, best I've ever had. Margaritas are great, very decent amount of tequila. Ambiance is fun and cozy, small hole in the wall, and very very clean. I can't wait to go back

Yelp
The vibe was a little different, no music. Service was perfect. The food was exceptional for the price. $10 for a flight of four tacos!

Yelp
This is my go to for amazing TexMex food, everything we order there is the best you can ask for. We really love the chorizo and egg plate for breakfast, the food is awesome and the servers are prompt and kind, this is also a great place to watch football as there are TV's everywhere. They play Mexican music and always have something going on with Cinco de mayo being the funnest.
google avatar

Yelp
Awful. Don't waste your time or money. Service is friendly enough but inattentive and inadequate. Food is substandard, cold, and covered in cheese to mask its flavor. House margarita is watered down and bland, served in a glass mason jar with a handle. Even the chips and salsa are subpar. Ambiance is dark and dirty. This place is a definite pass. Keep moving and go somewhere else.

Yelp
I had a great experience here. I had all kinds of questions on beer, salsas, preparation... the gentleman waiting on me was super knowledgeable and accommodating. He even brought me a tiny beer sample of a draft I wasn't familiar with, a separate hot as blazes salsa to doctor up stuff, and appropriate to go packaging when I was stuffed! Love that they have daily and weekend specials. Wish I lived nearby - this would be a routine haunt for me!

Yelp
I had lunch with my wife on Saturday the 15th, and were very disappointed. From the salsa to the entrees everything that we had was bland and tasteless. My wife ordered two ground beef tacos, and a chicken tamale, I ordered a chicken taco, a ground beef tostada, and a Carne Asada burrito. Nothing had any flavor, we both found that very strange, because we based our decision to go to Tortilleria Perches, on the reviews that we read saying the food was Authentic, delicious, and flavorful. When we complained to the waitress, she called over the manager and her comment was to ask if it was it "the ground beef, we are working on the ground beef" It seemed an interesting question, I didn't understand what that meant, but I didn't ask any further questions. The manager told us they had several different flavors of salsa to choose from ( something that we were not offered when we were seated). Long story, short we did not have to pay for the meal that we didn't, we were offered a gift card, if we wanted to try them again. We politely declined,

Yelp
This is almost a weekly spot for us! My daughter likes the chile rellenos and I love the beef quesadillas. My boyfriend likes their beer! The staff is very friendly and the owner seems like a nice person. DEF RECOMMEND!

Yelp
We ate in on a Wednesday night. The service was friendly. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. My eight-year old son loved the burrito from the kids menu. Sometimes he feels like the kids menu items are too kiddy, but this was a satisfying meal for him. He also liked the beans and rice in addition to the burrito. I had the pozole verde special. It was really good, with fresh cabbage, onions, and limes. I liked the proportion of hominy, pork, and broth. I couldn't finish the medium bowl. I can't imagine what the large bowl would have been like. My wife tried the picadillo plate. She wasn't expecting the vegetables to be the frozen mixed vegetables type, but the flavor was good. My son asked if we could go back the next day, but we had traveled on to Branson. We will go back next time we are in Springfield.

Yelp
I ordered the large tamale family meal (with chicken) to go, it was delicious the food was prepared on time and wrapped securely and all in one piece when I got home! Every time we get a large family meal at Tortilleria Perches it never disappoints!

Yelp
I cannot...and I mean cannot get enough of this restaurant. The beans and rice, tamales, enchiladas, burritos...whatever you choose is going to be fantastic. And the folks working there are nice!!! . Service and great food?!? This place is a hidden gem in my opinion. I recommend whenever I can. Try it for yourself. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Thomas S.

Yelp
Not great I used to eat there all of the time. I took my granddaughter there for lunch, not as good as it used to be.
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
My wife loves to eat here. The tacos are authentic Mexican, and the refried beans are among the best in town.

Yelp
Food was really good!! Service really good!! Not a very good draft beer section though.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never posted a review of this fabulous Mexican restaurant. We've gone here for a few years now almost every time we are in Springfield. I we don't eat in, I order to take home. I think it's very authentic, with the owner's family recipes. There are some things there I don't like (i.e. picadillo), but the things I do love, that's what I order over and over again. Take for example, their gorditas. Not only delicious but the biggest ones I've had anywhere. Their shredded beef is so incredibly flavored. I often order 2 lbs to bring home, which comes with chopped onions, lime quarters, and cilantro. I use the shredded beef to make a soft taco or tostada with the 3 dozen homemade corn tortillas I also get from Tortilleria Perches. And their red salsa is good, their green salsa the best anywhere. My favorite item on the menu is Guisado de Barbacoa. Paul likes the carnitas, or is it the chile verde? The one negative is the it's pretty cramped inside, but hey, I gladly put up with that minor issue to get great food.

Yelp
One of the best local restaurants in Springfield- and that says a lot for Restaurant City! El pastor or pork tacos or burritos - you can't go wrong. Love supporting local - especially when the food is the best around. Highly recommend!

KA P.

Yelp
My first time visiting this place. I initially came in with a Chimichanga in mind. However, quickly changed my mind after viewing the menu. There are so many great optioms on it. I ordered the bandera burito loaded with steak and chicken. The tomato, lettuce and onions are a nice touch as well. The burito was topped with verde, con queso and red sauce; yum!
google avatar

Rene B.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I wish I didn't have to give such a low score but the food really was not that good. The Menudo was terrible! The bean dip was 90% cheese and 10% bean and soupy.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
One of the few places in Springfield to get actual authentic Mexican food. I have been multiple times and it's great every time.
google avatar

Oli D.

Yelp
I just got here from California and I was hesitant to even try any Mexican restaurants out here. Let's just say this place didn't disappoint at all. Very good food. Bien ambiente y la comida está muy buena. 100% auténtica la comida y el servicio estuvo al cien también. Da gusto encontrar raza por estos rumbos. Lo recomiendo a todos.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
The food is good, the people are friendly, close/ample parking, and the bar has plenty of tv's to catch the game(s). Daily specials add a little variety to the otherwise routine menu.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Decent house margarita and good tacos! They were accommodating for my uncle who wanted his quesadilla on corn tortillas since he can't have flour which was really kind. However, my buddy got a piña colada that tasted mostly like water. Overall a great place to enjoy tacos and watch football!
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I moved to Springfield, MO from California almost 7 years ago and this is the most authentic Mexican food that we have found in town. This restaurant is our favorite spot for Mexican food.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Good service. Excellent food. Really like the tamale's and everything else. I like the medium salsa.
google avatar

Kris W.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Tortilleria Perches based on reviews from friends. We are from California and are looking for California Mexican style food. Prices are reasonable and staff is super friendly. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the hype. Refried beans has no flavor. Street tacos were bland and the enchilada had no flavor. Was disappointed and will have to keep looking for our California Mexican restaurant.
google avatar

Chester M.

Yelp
Mixed reviews from our experience. Overall, we had a fine time and everything was just okay. The chips and salsa are fantastic. I wanted to go here for pozole and found it to be a little flat. I've had pozole with more "zing" and dimension. I'm no pozole expert but I think this was pretty mediocre. The wife ordered more tex-mex style items like tacos and a burrito with rice and beans and, just like other reviewers have commented they were very average or below. Bland, afterthought, un-loved ground beef like it's from a school cafeteria. The spanish rice might as well have been from a box but the refried beans are very good. The waiter was pretty good but he omitted part of my order and then struck up a conversation with some regulars that came in for about 20 minutes and didn't check on us. I might go back if I don't find somewhere else that has pozole.

Kellie S.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for 8+ years, I have consistently had great service and the food has been very good! They expanded to add more seating and a bar area, as well as a large room for big groups. The owner and his mother and family members are always so helpful and welcoming. You can tell the staff members are well taken care of and are always very helpful and patient. One of my favorite restaurants in Springfield!

Mark T.

Yelp
This is easily a top 3 if not the best Mexican restaurant in SGF. Consistently exceptional in every way: Service, authentically creative cuisine, margaritas & atmosphere including hospitality & friendliness . This "ma & son" operation is true to it's roots and a rare SGF gem. Their sauces are incredible - perfect for their most extensive authentic Mexican menu in the area. The choices are simply mesmerizing. My perfect meal is a basket of their fresh chips & flavorful salsa, a large guac, either a burrito or enchiladas al la Bandera alongside one (or more) of their delightful margaritas. You'll be shouting both "muy bueno" and "no mas" by your termination point. Perches has been our consistent favorite to which few compare. We've been patronizing them for years, long before it became a SGF tradition. We have ask them to expand to SE SGF to save us the drive across town but we can only hope. If you aren't down with Perches yet, you're out...

Yelp
I thought this food was just ok. The cheese dip was blah. Nothing special. Probably will not return.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield. I love the beef Queso, love the fresh tortillas and I've never been disappointed in the entrees that I've tried.
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
The carnitas Colorado are to die for. $5 margaritas, in many flavors. The chicken soup is giant and very flavorful with huge chunks of everything. Great service and very friendly staff.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
The food was excellent - very authentic and tasty. We had chorizo and eggs as well as migas and we loved it. Good refried beans and flour tortillas, too. The service lacked a bit. I ordered a cup of coffee and that's exactly what I got - no spoon and no sugar. I requested those and after the waiter had dealt with other tables for awhile, he brought the spoon and sugar. I was curious as to why he wouldn't bring those with the coffee. This restaurant has three rooms with tables and most were empty when we arrived. We were offered a table in the smallest, darkest room by a work area and the restrooms. I saw parties of two men, a man and a boy and a man with two children enter the restaurant and all were given tables in the brighter, bigger rooms. Did this happen because we were two older women? Maybe, because this has happened to me before in restaurants.
google avatar

Suzannah C.

Yelp
Hands down best Mexican food in town. The carnitas chimichanga was freaking amazing. I'm not usually big on rice and beans but I ate every bite. The al pastor taco was awesome too. We had a spicy mango marg that was on special for five bucks and it was killer. Reasonable prices, big portions. Its my new spot from now on.
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. Their tortillas are beautiful, both corn and flour. And their carnitas are to die for. Service is always impeccable and quick. It doesn't get better than this! There's not much else to say because there's no easy way to describe perfection. Come eat here!
google avatar

Jazmine H.

Yelp
Not a huge fan. Being from Texas, when I hear "authentic Mexican food" this place certainly does not come to mind. The food is mediocre, at best. Decent margaritas though.

Ashlyn J.

Yelp
Food was served cold. And I'm 99% certain the chicken came from a can. Looked and tasted just like canned chicken. Service was okay but food was just not good.
google avatar

Dylan U.

Yelp
I liked it overall. The waiter was very nice the wait was a little longer than what I'm usually used to waiting but it was a little busy so I don't mind that. I don't really like how close the tables are. The food was about 5/10. Overall, not bad.
google avatar

Andre R.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a recommendation. Place was pretty busy when I arrived and the crowd appeared to be all smiles both directions. I got my seat and although busy I waited almost 10 minutes before I got a menu. After I ordered a drink and food, another lengthy wait occured. My chips and salsa arrived and it was good. Later my drink order was retaken since it was forgotten. My food and drink finally arrived. The margarita s are served in a 1/3 size mason jar with a grip. The alcohol content was low even for a house blend. I expected more for $6. My food...the tacos were kid sized and the burrito was bland with no kick or juices. The sizes of the items were also small in comparison to other establishments. It was an average descent meal but did not live up to the hype.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Returned again, for the 5th time! Highly suggest getting the gorditas! Easily the best and truest Mexican food in Springfield. I got the chimichanga, steak taco, and shredded beef burrito. All had very tender and moist ingredients. The portion sizes were very fair and the sides were pretty standard in all regards. The salsa was good but is arguably less flavorful then el puente. Service was the best I've had. Overall a 5 star experience today
google avatar

Landon G.

Yelp
It was fantastic really good Mexican food and fast polite service and right in the price range that you'd expect so overall I'd say it's it was five stars. Best Mexican restaurant I've gone to in Springfield by far.
google avatar

Yelp
Owned and operated by Jesus and his mother Maria Perches. Maria's delicious authentic recipes are from Durango and Chihuahua Mexico. Tortillas and chips are made in house daily. My hubby ordered the pork chili Verde with refried beans, Mexican rice and fresh corn tortillas. The chili Verde was very tasty and spicy, the pork was tender-this dish was delicious. I ordered the Friday special, chili Relleno, refried beans and Mexican rice. I also ordered a cup of Albondigas which is one of my favorite (Mexican meatball-soup) the soup was absolutely delicious one of the best I've had in a long, long time. The soup beef broth looks almost clear with large chunks of; celery onion, potato, carrots and a tender and tasty meat ball. Chili Relleno- poblano pepper stuffed with Monterey Jack or Queso Asadero, lightly battered and fried golden brown, served without sauce- it was absolutely delicious. Salsa and chips were good the service was great. Thank you Jose and Maria, your food is absolutely delicious, I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Adi H.

Yelp
If i could have one star I would. There was a freaking fly in my tacos. Not to mention the smell of the restaurant was horrible. It smelled like rotten food, almost unbearable. Plus we waited 15 minutes for just our drinks and then for 45 minutes for our food (while being the only people there ) which was only a plate of 3 fish tacos for me and regular ole nachos for my boyfriend. My fish tacos tasted so nasty I took one bite an spit it out and didn't finish touch anything else. & the tacos Truthfully and honestly, they smelt like dirty old fishy lady bits if im being blatant. And the nachos weren't even warmed. Jsut sprinkled with shredded cheese topped with coke dry plain hamburger and then drizzled with chunky barely warm nacho cheese. He didn't even try a bite. We asked for the check and just paid it and left. It was so bad there was no sense in even arguing with them. We wanted out of this foul place as quickly as possible. This was over a year and a half ago, and we still to this day laugh and joke about this experience as the most grotesque experience we have ever been through together. I was so very upset....

Jerilyn B.

Yelp
Awesome food! It's real Mexican food and always tastes homemade! The service is personal and the atmosphere is welcoming. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good about my experience at this restaurant. First, I will start by saying the staff was excellent! They were all so friendly, had smiles on their faces, looked like they enjoyed working together, and was very attentive to my wants. Secondly, the food I ordered was delicious! I had enchiladas verde and the verde sauce was so flavorful with a spicy kick which you can't find in many places because they tone it down so much. They have wonderful choices for draft beers and delicious margaritas. I highly recommend this business.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Service was excellent and very friendly. Family owned and managed and they bring several dishes to the area not found in other Mexican Restaurants. Their beef tacos are excellent and chicken quesadilla's are a full meal. They try to make what you want so they accommodated me with a smaller quesadilla that allowed me to eat a taco with it. Very customer focused and ready to help! Prices are very reasonable and food was quick. We enjoyed and will return often. I like the phrase from another reviewer, this place is a diamond in the rough. Enjoy
