"Toscano has been open for over 40 years, and having dinner at this Italian restaurant is a Beacon Hill right of passage (and a much better one than tripping over all the uneven sidewalks). Like most spots in the neighborhood, there’s wood, bricks, and leather everywhere. The menu leans Tuscan with great charcoal-grilled dishes like crispy brick-pressed cornish hen, along with great classics like caesar salad, linguine with pesto, and pepper-crusted tenderloin. We also love the Neapolitan-style pizzas—the speck and quattro formaggi bianco in particular are both slam dunks. Always start or end your meal with the four Italian cheese tasting with truffle honey." - tanya edwards

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The ambiance was lovely and quaint, but it’s the service that stood out. Roberto was so kind and made wonderful recommendations due to my gluten sensitivity, which can be a bummer when eating out. The menu surprisingly had several GF options! The GF pasta was the best I’ve had in Boston, hands down. Their wine menu was lengthy and well priced. We will definitely be back.

I believe this is the best restaurant I’ve experienced in Boston and the surrounding areas over the past decade in terms of service. I’m not sure if the quality of all the staff is as high, but at least today, Jo provided service that left me extremely satisfied. There were several details that stood out to me, which is rare in Boston’s dining scene. For example, when I ordered hot water for my family, Jo thoughtfully asked if we would like an extra pot on the side to ensure we could refill our cups at any time. Additionally, she would occasionally come by our table to check the temperature of the pot with her hand to ensure the water hadn’t cooled down. She also made sure the table was tidy and checked if any utensils needed to be replaced between each course. Her introduction of the dishes and drinks was both professional and warm. As for the food, it was excellent. I tried the three-course menu of Dine Out Boston menu, and the appetizer, main course, and dessert were all top-notch. If the regular menu maintains this standard and the overall service quality is as outstanding as Jo’s, this will definitely be my favorite restaurant in the Boston area.

Google
Toscano offers an incredible Italian dining experience! I recently visited Toscano on Charles street, Boston with company friends. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a charming ambiance. The Risotto was fresh, and the flavors were so authentic. The service was attentive and friendly, and the wine selection was impressive. Peter was really friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be returning soon!"

Google
This is by far the best restaurant my boyfriend and I have been to! We went last night to celebrate our anniversary and had Roberto as our server. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was always making sure everything was good. Food was absolutely incredible. We started with the arugula salad and the balsamic dressing on it was amazing. I got the bianco bolognese and my boyfriend got the chicken with prosciutto and mushrooms in a sauce- both exceeded our expectations. For dessert they were kind enough to bring out a blueberry tart dessert which was the best thing we have ever tasted. Will definitely be back!

Google
If we lived here we would live HERE. Went twice this trip only because there weren't more days. It's perfect across the board: ambience, food, personnel. We LOVE this place and I would agree to a trip to Boston, personal or business, from Fort Worth simply for the chance to return here. Amy, Roberto, Lina: perfection. Thank you for the very best memories of this trip to Boston. We'll be back over and over. Simply fabulous. 🥰

Google
Amazing food, amazing service, beautiful architecture all throughout the restaurant!

Google
Everything is so good. The staff are very professional. They also have crushed habañero upon request (not commonly found at Italian restaurants, so a real treat). Highly recommend coming here, especially for a date or anniversary

Google
Upscale Italian. Old School atmosphere with dark wood paneling and dimmed lights. I sat at the bar. Food was exceptional. Service attentive. I ordered one of the daily specials, the seafood grill. Everything was spot on: the salmon had just a bit of crunch on the outside, the grilled vegetables so good that I even ate the zucchini.

Rick C.

Yelp
Very impressed with this place for dinner with friends. We had NY reservations at 7 PM and our party of six was seated right away. Our server was right on top of things getting drinks sorted, helping us select a bottle of wine, and taking our order. I ordered the Caesar salad, and was pleased that anchovies came with it if you ask. I had the T-bone steak, which was great, cooked to perfection (med.rate). The sautéed spinach and potatoes were great. I couldn't finish it all, so they gave me a take away container. Great wine, selection, and a TV to watch the football playoffs. Well done everything.

Grier F.

Yelp
Classy upscale and crowded! Love their food, we got their emart flight and antipasto to start off. Their artichoke hearts on the antipasto were very good. Then we got meatball spag for my main. Top notch food with a gorgeous full bar in the middle

Matt L.

Yelp
Toscano's is well worth the wait. This classic, and classy, Italian, located centrally in Boston hosts both locals and visitors equally graciously. The food is top notch, perfectly prepared and delicious, with portions that are just right. I wish I was a local so I could enjoy a meal more often, but otherwise, a great experience.

Alexandria D.

Yelp
Cozy ambiance on Charles Street. Great for a celebration or nice night out. We enjoyed the meatballs and eggplant and clam pastas. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back!

Quynh Nhu D.

Yelp
We showed up to the restaurant without having a reservation but were greeted by the host kindly. We stood outside for about 15 minutes before they were open but they let us in early. Most of us got the restaurant week menu and it's a very good deal. The bread was good and idk what that balsamic vinegar and olive oil was but it's soooo good. I got the smoked salmon: it was good and the olive was interesting but quite salty as the olives are. Rigatoni truffle was pretty good , not too heavy. You get a good whiff of the truffle. Pana cotta was yummy but I was too full! We had a great time. The service was attentive and the place look really nice and classy. Great vibes to catch up with old friends. Definitely take advantage of the restaurant week menu when you can.

Yelp
WOW! Amazing Italian dining in Boston, walking distance from Harvard Square. Our party of 5 came on a Thursday evening with NO reservations around 7pm and were pleasantly surprised to get a seat on the high top tables adjacent to the bar area and open kitchen. It's a beautiful restaurant with variety of small tables, booths, and longer tables. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Food: DELICIOUS! AMAZING! Fresh made pasta and wonderfully crafted pasta sauces, and proteins. The pictures speak for themselves, and you really cannot go wrong with any choice. So much so that our group each chose a different dish for ourselves and shared a little with each other so we could try as many different dishes. I can't really pick one favorite, since they all were delicious. I would say it depends on what you're looking or hankering for. On this night, I was really drawn to Pappardelle pasta, so that was my choice. But really, if you were looking for a type of pasta like gnocchi or farfalle or rigatoni, or a type of sauce or protein...so many options to meet your needs! A "MUST TRY" in the Boston area for sure!

Ingi E.

Yelp
Really delicious food at Toscano! The pastas were lovely and the restaurant feels rustic and elevated. The round table was lovely for our group!

Erin B.

Yelp
I am not exaggerating when I say that the gnocchi was one of my favorite Italian dishes I have ever had, including those I had in Italy. Handmade and perfectly pillowy and light, with a perfect tomato sauce and mozzarella. Everyone in my party ordered it and we were all equally impressed. The cocktails are also fantastic, with a few different classic Negronis catching our eye. The grilled calamari appetizer is not to be missed. I love the dark cozy ambiance. One of my top spots in Beacon Hill for sure, and I'll be back for that gnocchi!

Adelie S.

Yelp
The folks at Harvard recommended this place for a dinner and while it was good, I'm not sure it was as mind-blowingly good as the receptionist said it was so we left a little disappointed. I had the tagliatelle gambari with shrimp which was just OK (I liked that there was an option for a petite portion since I wasn't super hungry). Also tried the grilled calamari which was a bit too chewy for me and I'd probably pass on that next time. Service and ambience were great but definitely felt like the locals hyped it up a bit too much but overall still a solid place if you're craving pasta.

Sara Jieyi T.

Yelp
Amazing and affordable Italian restaurant tucked away in the corner of Beacon Hill. I ordered the LINGUINE VONGOLE and FUNGHI (Risotto) and they were both great. I highly recommend the SPAGHETTI ALLO SCOGLIO where you get a mixed of seafood cooked with white wine in your pasta and its delicious! The service was friendly and attentive. This place feature a classic traditional dining interior. In addition, it gets packed up quick and seem to have many regular customers so make sure you make a reservation prior. Food: 8.8/10 Service: 9.5/10 Experience: 9/10 Value: 9/10

Celia F.

Yelp
Amazing experience here, hostess was great and very helpful when we asked to be seated a bit early Shrimp appetizer was awesome !

Roy M.

Yelp
Fantastic food and wine experience every time. Roberto our server delivered many dishes along with a long list of supporters all performing beautifully to make another memorable evening here Thank you David for creating an amazing Oasis in Boston

Aakanksha S.

Yelp
I don't know if it was because we were here for restaurant week, but the service was notably cold and unfriendly from the beginning. Not sure if it was an off day, but they certainly weren't slammed--the weather was terrible, so the restaurant was unusually quite empty (I even found easy parking!). The food was fine, the rigatoni was even heavier and richer than I expected, and got a bit difficult to get through, but the pasta quality was high. I quite liked my panna cotta but my partner was very disappointed in his white chocolate tart, which he had been very excited for.

Patrick G.

Yelp
Very nice place with a host & wait staff that were just excellent. It has a very laid back vibe with a medium to low noise level. The food was beyond fresh and perfectly executed. This is one of my Boston favorites & will be back very soon.

Jennifer K.

Yelp
This place is so so good! We are from Chicago where we have high standards for authentic Italian food as there are a ton of options and we are spoiled. I did so much research for a good restaurant in the Northend, settled in on one to take our parents who live in Westminster and it was just Awful last night so tonight we came back to our tried and true Toscano in Beacon Hill. We have eaten here at least 8 times but finally I feel we need to leave a review and tell you not to waste your time in the cheesy Northend come here instead. Peter is our server - old school professionalism top notch service - food is excellent we had the meatballs, eggplant as appetizer, Caesar salad, Salmon and filet of Cod as the mains. Additionally it is packed however the acoustics are great and we are able to engage in conversation and just enjoy our dinner. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you Toscano!

Yvonne P.

Yelp
A gem of a restaurant. It doesn't look like much from the street but we were treated to a delicious lunch with lovely ambiance, including a street view with an open window and gentle breeze. Attentive service. We forgot a picture but we had the best white chocolate blueberry tart on the planet. The shortbread crust was to die for.

Drea B.

Yelp
I like this restaurant. Food is really good, tried a few pasta dishes (pomodoro and bianco bolognese), caprese salad, minestrone to the filet and all are flavorful. Cozy intimate atmosphere. Server was great. Host was snobby. We arrived when it was pretty much empty and asked to sit at a table near the window or booth and he said he can't allow it.... It was still empty when we left so spare me your stuffy nose. But I won't let one guy ruin my experience.

Terrence W.

Yelp
First timer though I lived on Charles in the '80's and can't wait to go back. Great atmosphere. Welcoming staff. Linguine pesto probably the best I've ever had.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Elegant and sophisticated. Love this place. Great date night, pre Red Sox game night any night.

Joyce K.

Yelp
From the ambience, to the service, to the delicious food, we had a wonderful experience here! Our waitress was attentive and offered great suggestions. We shared the four cheese sampler, which had a great selection of different tastes and textures. When it came to the pasta, I tried the Rigatoni Toscano which was perfect (pasta was Al dente and came with a flavorful sauce and little bacon pieces). I usually can't finish pasta dishes of that size but my stomach somehow found room for this one :) We got a complimentary dessert since we were celebrating a friend's new job (a white chocolate and blueberry tarts), which was a nice touch. All in all, an exquisite Italian dining experience, perfect for celebrating a special occasion!

M R.

Yelp
We recently enjoyed a wonderful time at Toscano celebrating a special birthday. We were lucky to be seated in the front window. Loved the quiet vibe. Service was impeccable. We ordered wine, a drink, a mista salad, veal scaloppini, and veal pomodoro. We finished our meal with cappuccinos and they brought an amazing tiramisu with a candle. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and we would recommend.

Matthew D.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! I am a huge critic of Italian food, and this one did not disappoint. We arrived around 7 with a group of five and no reservation. We had a table in 10 minutes. The bread was wonderful and the service was top notch. This was our last night of 4 in Boston and what a way to finish! I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Mary R.

Yelp
This might be my new favorite spot in Boston. My husband and I came here for an early dinner and it was absolutely perfect. The location in Beacon Hill and the ambiance inside is a great date night spot. We split several courses and the service was outstanding. I described to our waitress the type of martini I wanted and she asked the bar and came up with a delicious white chocolate martini. She happily split every course for 2 of us. I order bolognese every time I go to an Italian restaurant and this might've been one of my favorites. For the location and food quality, prices weren't bad. We can't wait to return to Toscano!

Marcy F.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance with low to medium noise level. Always excellent food and service. Lots of menu options to suit any palate. Fillet of Sole, Mushroom Rissoto, Veal Scaloppine, Mussels and Bruschetta last night all excellent. Go to for special occassions and getting together with friends.

Macoisinha M.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with this place. The place is beautiful however the food was tasteless. It was recommended by a great friend and we were really excited to try it out, but nothing that I ordered was really great. Everything lacked taste even though it was nicely presented. The bruschetta had no flavor at all. It was chopped tomatoes on a toast. Zero seasoning. The caprese was sliced tomatoes and a small burrata, but again, no flavor or seasoning. Not even balsamic vinegar. That was the first caprese I ever had with burrata cheese and without balsamic vinegar. And finally the verdura pizza was pretty but tasteless I would recommend if you want a elegant place to dine but not if you like flavorful food!

Valeriia D.

Yelp
The restaurant has a great location and ambiance, the service is nice too. We tried mussels, which were quite good, but pizza was really disappointing. The crust was too dry and the prevailing taste in the quattro formaggi pizza is tomato and mozzarella, which, basically, makes it a margarita.

Fhil B.

Yelp
I hate to write this as I am a local and do not want others to go but... The food is superb, the service outstanding, and the vibe wonderful. Now, good luck getting a reservation but if you can't you must prefer the sausage pizza. The cheese is incredibly well matched with the sausage and the crust is perfect done. Don't take my spot in the reservation line...but if you do get in, it is a treasure.

Nick S.

Yelp
All around amazing food and a great environment. Service was excellent. I asked our server for recommendations on everything simply based on what I was looking for, and he amazed us! Would definitely recommend.

Kamelia G.

Yelp
Amazing food combined with outstanding service. We ordered Orecchiette VITELLO & Funghi Di Bosco. Both were amazing and flavorful. A must try in Boston. Highly recommend this place

Tim B.

Yelp
First time here. Attentive and professional, if not friendly service. High-quality food. All members of our party really enjoyed what we ordered. Very comfortable room with adequate space between tables. As good as anything in the North End without the crowds and parking problems. Definitely coming back.

Megan O.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our visit to Toscano's. We just happened to be walking down the street and a couple who lived nearby was coming out and was like "YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE! We are locals and we gotta tell you it's the best food around. All the locals eat here. You won't regret it!" So we thought "Hey, why not!" We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our waiter Daniel was SO sweet, welcoming and personable. He gave us great recommendations to the places we were visiting and was so helpful with whatever we needed! *Allergies info: They have gluten free pasta!! We started off with the Gamberoni alla brace (grilled shrimp) which came with 3 huge juicy pieces of delicious shrimp. For our entrees, I had the bistecca di filetto (filet with mashed potatoes) and my husband had the orecchiette vitello (pasta with veil sauce). Also wonderful. We ordered the duck pasta sauce on the side to try and it was 10/10 delicious!! For dessert we had the Torta di Mirtilli (blueberry white chocolate tart) and the Frutti di Bosco (berries covered in red wine custard) which were AMAZING! We Torta di Martilli was to die for. We ate it within 3 minutes flat. The crust is delish and so buttery. The Frutti di Bosco was a nice fresh dessert with a gentle sweetly bitter finish. We loved our meal here and will definitely be back!

E R.

Yelp
What a fantastic dining experience we had today at Toscano's Beacon Hill restaurant. And I can't recommend enough the waitstaff and reception, they really made a memorable experience for us. Restaurant ambiance is Italian, fine dining, and our meals were superb, they were more than happy to help with any dietary restrictions. So looking forward to return in the future. Location offered us a great view of Charles Street on a warm summer day...

Bea W.

Yelp
Attentive, charming waitstaff in traditional Italian restaurant. Not as food food as some of the places in North End. Pizza was meh. Veal pizzaola was tough and not very herbed. Gelato was similarly not as flavorful as I expected. Basically food was meh. Nice atmosphere

Y E.

Yelp
Upscale Italian place with amazing food. Everything we had was amazing. Portions were generous size. We got there a bit later in the evening and thankfully were able to be seated without a reservation. Don't expect that to be the norm though, reservations are definitely recommended. Also a heads up for late night diners, kitchen closes at 9 pm so you need to be seated and get your food orders in by then. The prices listed in some of the Yelp pics may have changed as well, so keep that in mind too. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some AMAZING food.

Richard O.

Yelp
Celebrated our anniversary here. The staff, the atmosphere, the food, the wine, all 5 star! Toscano's is the perfect special occasion restaurant! They have a solid wine list, the entrees are all full of complex's flavors. The waiter we had made several recommendations from appetizers to wines, each one was spot on. He also really took the time to get to know our table, without being overly intrusive.

Angela P.

Yelp
What a delight to find Toscano. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I could not decide between the scallops/leak/spinach meal or the gnocchi special. The server suggested I order the scallops & add a side of the gnocchi. Both were amazing! I was not able to finish, but was so happy I was able to try both.

Daisy C.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant. You don't need my review for that. This is a well oiled machine. Our server William was obviously in a mood tonight and it dampened our special meal. You know how a waiter can be checked out? Almost annoyed that's he/she is working? Well that's how it felt with William. Unenthusiastic, terse, not very engaging and certainly not in tune with our table. It made me aware of how important servers can be in an overall meal experience. William check yourself!

Kelly T.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. It seemed busy on a Monday night but they were able to accommodate our party of 3 before our reservation time. Service was impeccable and the menu had so many options, it was difficult to choose. This was our first restaurant stop in our very first visit to Boston. It came highly recommended. We will be back again on our next visit.

LeAnn S.

Yelp
I WISH I lived in Boston! If I did, I would come here *at least* three days a week! The ambiance is so cool! The lighting, the everything. This is my first time here. I'm only visiting for a few days, but I may just come back a second time while I'm here! Dee was my bartender - so nice and friendly! I had a dirty martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives - amazing! And a Caesar salad - also AMAZING! And the rigatoni Toscano - FREAKING AMAZING and I will be dreaming about it for the rest of my life! Coming here tonight was the best decision of my entire life, and I am totally definitely for sure not being dramatic *at all* heheh Seriously, just come here! I am so glad I did, and I hope I can come back!

Tina S.

Yelp
Tina's take: 10/10 Coming from New York we did a double date and this place was great. The restaurant was absolutely Beautiful and the service was amazing. We all ordered wine and instead of appetizers we all shared pasta. The bread was amazing that is given it was so warm and fluffy. The waiter was so nice and professional the whole time. Since two couples were sharing two different pastas he served us with two different bowls instead of just bringing out the two pastas and giving us sharing plates. I thought this was very nice and appreciated. The dinner was amazing with all the waiters recommendations. Also desert was great as well. I totally recommend this place everything was cooked to perfection and the staff was great.

Cameron B.

Yelp
Finally getting around to reviewing this old staple on my trips to B-town. I'll preface with the fact that I'm lactose intolerant, and because of that, usually stray away from Italian food, which tends to be cheese heavy. But, don't sleep on Toscano!! The staff here are extremely knowledgeable, amenable and jovial. This translates not only to a great dinning experience but also a flexible food option. Upon finding out about my dietary constraints, I was given several menu recommendations and also they went back to talk the chef to make sure they could still make a delicious dish with those constraints. I landed on their roasted chicken and my dining partner got the pizza. We started with bread and EVOO, of course, which came out fresh and fluffy. Our amazing bartender Andrew dazzled us with a perfect old fashioned and great conversation. The chicken came out exceedingly juicy and flavorful!!! Knocked my socks off! My friend said her pizza was succulent and savory with a perfect crust..and that's a high bar for her, cause she loves and is picky about pizza! Bustling but not too loud, classic and classy, and affordable this is a must visit Italian spot when in town!

McCall J.

Yelp
Online says this spot closes at 9:30, tried to call to confirm, showed up at 8:40pm & were immediately told "sorry bad news for you were not serving anymore." Would have appreciated being told that over the phone. Even would've liked the offer to get takeout once we showed up, but apparently that wasn't an option.

Luke H.

Yelp
Went here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend. Beautiful interior, makes for a nice date night. We had the salsiccia for an appetizer which was very tasty and I would say fairly authentically Italian. The pappardelle bolognese was absolutely delicious. I am a big bolognese guy and I would say this is definitely worth it. The patate al forno was a bit disappointing in my opinion. Not bad, just a bit bland. Would recommend stopping by here for date night.

Alex B.

Yelp
The food here was great. Came here for a company dinner. Every course was spot on and the service was exceptional.

Heidi S.

Yelp
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Toscano's on Charles Street last night for my daughter's 24th birthday. From the time we walked in throughout the evening everyone wished her a happy birthday. The service was excellent as was the food. The birthday girl had a sea bass dish that was amazing, my other daughter had the bruschetta and a pizza and I had a combination risotto as I couldn't decide which I wanted. All were absolutely delicious. To top it off, they brought the birthday girl a panna cotta dessert which was delicious as well. This was not our first time at Toscano's and it will not be our last. They have our highest rating.

Andres D.

Yelp
A delightful, classy Italian spot! Service is really friendly and excited to discuss the menu. Ambiance is very much the elegance you expect from this kind of upscale Italian, but it feels very natural and unpretentious. There are plenty of great choices but they are most proud of their pasta options. I had the linguine vongole, which was excellent. The sauce and clam complemented the pasta perfectly. For dessert I tried the white chocolate blueberry tart, which was really sweet but exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend this spot for a classy Beacon Hill dinner!

Steve F.

Yelp
Underwhelming. Service was great but the food average to sub-bar. My bland, greasy four-cheese ravioli was a particular disappointment. Neat interior, but you can't eat ambiance.

T B.

Yelp
Excellent evening out at Toscano. I had a steak that was terrific and my date had a salmon special. They even made a chicken parm dinner for her daughter. The service was above and beyond. We enjoyed looking out onto Charles Street in the comfortable dining room.

Michael P.

Yelp
Great food, service, and ambiance. Upscale Italian restaurant. The tomato soup was delicious and a great portion size. I had the gnocchi which was delicious and my partner got the vegetarian risotto. The portion size was enough for lunch the next day. Really nice dinner experience.
