PRO-TIP: Yelp check in for 10% off the entire order!
Finding late lunch at Little Tokyo, especially on the weekend is a very difficult task to do. With most of the restaurants taking their break between the lunch and dinner rush and almost every other restaurant expecting a minimum 40 minute to almost 2 hour wait, we were ecstatic to call this place and find out that they did not have any wait whatsoever.
At the time there was only 2 other parties there with us and they took our order quickly enough. However, after that, everything started to go downhill. I think other patrons noticed that they did not have super long waits like the other restaurants and started filling in.
It took awhile to get our food and they all came out at very strange intervals. Since we were starving, one person would get their food and we'd just have to watch them eat. When the miso soup came out, I got a huge whiff of cleaning solution/chlorine (the worker was probably cleaning up at the moment) and lost a bit of my appetite, but luckily it came back.
During our time dining there, we were given the check for a large party's table and the worker walked away super quickly. If our friend didn't go up and quickly fixed this, we would have paid 4x as much and the other table would have gotten a massive discount. Someone in our party ordered a bento box that came with tempura as part of the dish, since we were so hungry, someone in our party dug in. It wasn't until we got fixed the check switch up that we realized that they charged us extra for the separate plate of tempura. We let them know that we didn't order it, and they said, "well you already ate it." It wasn't until some more explanation that they took it off our check. The entire rest of the meal I could hear staff saying that it's so busy, they already ate it, etc. Not very pleasant if you ask me.
We got the:
1) Fillet & Crab Croquette Katsu Set:
-2 pieces of crab croquette, the pork fillet katsu, some shredded cabbage, a bowl of rice, and bowl of miso soup.
-The crab croquette was my favorite. Super creamy crab inside and fluffy crispy panko fried layer on the outside.
-The tonkatsu was alright enough. I've had better in RH.
2) TOT Ramen:
-Decent heat and kick to it.
-Noodles were alright and there's a good amount of ground meat in it.
-Definitely super, super oily though.
I didn't try any of my friend's chicken teriyaki bento box or the accidental plate of tempura.
Altogether this was almost $60. Not really worth it in my opinion, but the timing was just bad.
Even in the end, we didn't get the 10% off I mentioned at the start. Oh well.
