Maria Sharapova Waits Hours for Good Restaurants Just Like the Rest of Us | Eater

"A discreet Japanese steakhouse on Pico in Los Angeles that appears unassuming from the outside but operates as an intimate, almost one-man Japanese steak-grill experience; entry typically requires a direct contact with the chef (Chef Kaz), and visits can result in exceptionally memorable meals—one guest called it among the best food experiences she’s had." - Martha Daniel

Totoraku Review - Sawtelle Japantown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This tiny Japanese restaurant behind a nondescript storefront along Pico is frankly more of a myth than anything else, but if you’re able to somehow get in (you need to be invited by the chef himself or come with a friend who did), you’ll embark on a pretty ridiculous meal. It’s BYOB, but not in the rowdy kind of way. In the way that you need to show up with a really good bottle of wine to impress the chef, so he’ll be inclined to invite you back again. The meat-heavy menu is decided entirely by what the chef feels like cooking that night and runs about $300 per person." - Brant Cox

No need to say much about this place. Best of the best

I adore my visits to the beef palace. But I have to train and limit myself to once or twice a year. Total vegan for a week before and no steak for two weeks. Then I grab several bottles of my best wine and head over for a night of beef debauchery. I know I will be meat drunk for two days after, but it is worth it. It is amazing.

OMG - never again - I was a taken there as a treat -but what a disappointment - this place was unsanitary - no ventilation - they cooked the food with charcoal at my table which I believe is a health code violation and charcoal at the table is even legal. Plus with all these negatives the owner was rude and the owner yelled at other guests. For the price tag - save your money and eat elsewhere- Please do not support this horrible establishment.

IF you can get in, be authentic and generous. This is a priceless and personal experience. Truly a superb, elegant and down to earth. Heaven for mavens of food, drink and companionship.

Yelp
I'm friends with Chef so I get to go all the time. He's a good man and his staff is ultra accommodating. Amazing place for any special gathering...take friends, family and clients and they talk about it forever. Way way way better than Yazawa Beverly Hills...you leave hungry from Yazawa but NEVER from Totoraku...Chef checks to make sure that never happens. Food is special to say the least...nothing in LA compares. Every high level Japanese chef eats here...Nobu included. Kaz turned me on to his favorite LA sushi places and those guys treated me the same was Kaz does...so fortunate to be Chef's friend. If you don't mind spending a lot and can get in, you must!

Yelp
I'm going to be honest; I'm a bit nervous about posting anything regarding this little spot. They requested that we don't take any pics at all and even though we did, we aren't suppose to post anything... but yeh, I'm a rebel. This secret spot is invite only and it's one of the best hidden gems of LA. You won't be able to call in for a reservation, so for those who are fortunate enough to get an invite, I applaud you and don't miss out on the experience of having your food prepped and presented by Chef Kaz. Other than the appetizers, this is a Japanese bbq restaurant consisting of mostly beef. Felt like we erected in a little secret dining experience. The restaurant looked like it was just there for a pop up, so it had like a real private dining ambiance.

Yelp
No signs and invite only. Kaz san is a master at what he does. Omakase beef, bring your own wine, zero corkage, great food...perfect!

Yelp
Chef Kaz is an artist and probably the best Japanese-beef purveyor in Los Angeles. Everything was, as always, impeccable. I was nervous about the new location, because I loved the old, incognito one, but it really delivered. The ONLY place where you can eat pounds of beef, some of it raw (sashimi style), and feel light and glow-y when you leave. Thank you so much, chef Kaz, for the stellar food and wonderful experience.
