Totto Ramen Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"Totto Ramen opened in the summer of 2010, right in the heat of what we'll call "The Great Ramen Awakening." First we had Momofuku, then we had Ippudo, then came Totto Ramen followed by about 20 other places, and now I'm pretty sure you can get tonkotsu lattes at Starbucks. Our initial review at the time had us singing the praises of Totto's arrival in Midtown West. Now we're here to update you with important news: It's still really f*cking good. If you aren't yet familiar, Totto's style of ramen lies somewhere in between the porky excessiveness of Ippudo and the basic, hangover curing magic of more traditional spots like Rai Rai Ken. It's a chicken-based broth as opposed to pork, and the noodles are thin. It all feels pretty authentic, and it's always satisfying—especially if you can hit it for lunch. But before you round up a crew from the office for some slurping, be aware that this location of Totto can be pretty packed. Waits for two are usually at least 45 minutes, and tables of three and four probably should not be attempted during peak meal hours. There is, however, frequent availability for a single stool at the bar, so dining solo will definitely give you an advantage in this situation. Find a book that you can pretend to be reading, and maybe someone will think you're interesting. Food Rundown Totto Chicken Paitan Ramen We love a big bowl of simmered pig, but the chicken broth here has a slightly different flavor, and it's delicious. The homemade noodles are also excellent, and we add an additional serving of pork just to be extra ridiculous. You should too. Totto Spicy Ramen The Chicken Paitan Ramen, but with some heat. We prefer this to the regular version, but know that it will definitely make you sweat. There is an "Extreme Spicy Ramen" as well, but you probably don't want to be reliving this meal for several days. Totto Miso Ramen An excellent miso ramen, if that's your scene. We prefer the other two options, but we did like the fact that the you can stir in as much miso as you like in this situation. Broiled Char Siu Pork The "house specialty" pork, this is what you'll find floating in your ramen, but on a plate and served with a yuzu mayonnaise. I guess this is Totto's answer to the pork bun? By no means does it suck, but we just don't feel it's a must order for your table. Stick to noodles and maybe some edamame." - Chris Stang

Totto Ramen Review - Allston - Boston - The Infatuation

"Totto isn’t the best ramen in the city, but it’ll do the trick when you get that ramen craving that hits you roughly four times a week between November and March. The noodles are thin, the broth is chicken-based, and the spicy paitan with sesame oil is always a good call. There’s a small menu of decent appetizers too, but you’re coming to this casual spot with anime murals on the wall for the noodles." - Dan Secatore

Google
Great food and friendly staff! We had the spicy ramen and the miso ramen, both with the fried chicken. So good. The staff was super helpful about allergy information, too! We were there an hour before close and never felt rushed or in the way! Would eat here again!

Google
usually finish my ramen no matter what, but I had to leave this one half eaten. The extra large size was generous, but the flavor just wasn’t there. Broth tasted weak, noodles were soggy, pork so not good and it felt dry. Service was good, but the food didn’t deliver. It’s also a little over priced.

If you find yourself in Assembly Row, you absolutely have to try this amazing ramen place. A single bowl will definitely hit the spot. I had a fantastic experience there 6 years ago, and when I visited again recently, the taste was still just as amazing. Whether you're hungry or just need something warm on a cold day, this is the spot for you. The place is clean, and the staff is super friendly.

Google
It’s rare to see a ramen restaurant not emphasizing its broth, it is more like whether you want regular or spicy noodles. It tastes like cooking with a powder from instant noodles or condensed soup, and cook the noodles in a water pot and then combine them together. But even though, yours will taste better than this one. The pork and chicken have weird smells. And it costs $20ish after tax I am aware that ramen restaurants have their unique ingredients. But it is hard for me to believe that it is due to their special ingredient.

Google
Waitress was not nice at all, food was good, the atmosphere was nice, just a little bit hot, the glass smell like egg

Google
It was the perfect Saturday afternoon. I wish I had gotten the name of our server because they were so sweet and attentive. The food was incredible and perfectly seasoned, and you absolutely cannot miss the spicy ramen and plum wine. I just left and already cannot wait to come back!

Mathilde

Google
This establishment was subpar. the ramen had two measly slices of tasteless, fatty pork. The broth was too salty, and not spicy enough for those who ordered the spicy ramen. The vegetarian option was baffling... why was there avocado? This being said, the portions we adequate and you can satisfy your hunger with the xl bowl. The service was okay, our waitress did not check in on us often enough.

Google
This ramen restaurant doesn’t seem particularly remarkable. I ordered the Paitan ramen and fried chicken. The ramen included pulled pork and chashu, so it had plenty of meat, which was nice, but nothing too special. I usually focus on the broth, and it wasn’t too salty, which I appreciated. However, I was disappointed with the fried chicken. It wasn’t crispy and tasted overly salty. I think other places serve much better fried chicken. The staff was genuinely friendly.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy ramen and plum wine. Both were amazing. Our server was cool. Super chill and attentive guy. The ambience was pretty chill. Wasn't a super day. Overall 10/10

Yelp
I've been to a number of ramen spots in the area and I'd put this one in the middle. I'm a fan of a super umami broth with a strong flavor... wouldn't quite stay Totto hit the mark on that scale. The pork was okay, but wasn't anything memorable. I did really like the interior of the restaurant. It wasn't too fancy, but it wasn't too casual either. Service was fairly standard. It's a solid spot if you're in Assembly and looking to grab a quick meal. I don't think I'd go back, given there are better options out there, but it certainly wasn't bad.

Yelp
I love ramen and this place kinda traumatized me Spicy miso -reg miso but with spicy paste you mixed in yourself. It was more like a salty bean paste so I was confused Gyudon -watery rice, liquid pooling on bottom from rice, cucumber, and pickled onion juice Chicken Paitan -so incredibly mid bad even, Pork bao -had reg mayo instead of kewpie (I think) it was strange

Kylea G.

Yelp
Tbh the spicy ramen tasted like they accidentally dropped the black pepper shaker upside down in the pot. It literally only tasted like cheap black pepper & when you stirred around the broth was gray... I'm a huge ramen person & this was just bad. I've come back multiple times too bcuz I live in the area hoping it was just a fluke & nope it's the same subpar everytime.

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere and good ramen but not the best ramen I've had. I ordered the Paitan Ramen ($17). The ramen broth feels unique to Totto compared to other ramens I've had. I personally found the broth and chashu a bit under-seasoned. Not terrible, just not the deeply umami flavors I've come to expect from a pork ramen. The service was great, and the employees are respectful and helpful. We're grateful that they offer dog friendly outdoor seating, which was clean and comfortable. They're also located right by the Artisan East Parking Garage, which offers up to 3 hours of free parking. Overall, it was a good visit that "scratches the itch" for ramen.

Yelp
Obviously one of the trendiest and tastiest ramens you'll ever get in the area. The interior is nicely decorated and the ambiance is very casual and chill. Service was great, they were very attentive and our food came fast. I got the Spicy Paitan Ramen and I wanted it really spicy so this definitely satisfied my cravings! Lots of thick fresh noodles and I enjoy the thick slices of pork! Pork was nicely marinated and I really like the flavor from torching it. I also ordered a kid ramen for my sister but it is just noodles and soup for like $9 and I would like to see some meat in there for that price. Overall, a good place for good ramen, good vibes, and good service.

Yelp
I came here because a friend of mine recommended it. It's located in a large outdoor shopping outlet with many eateries, so we settled on this because I haven't had ramen in many months. The menu is small which is great because it means the food is probably of high quality. The layout is nice and our server was on top of everything. It's quite expensive however, but given how touristy the area is it didn't surprise me. I got the spicy ramen with chicken and had them add fried garlic. It definitely brought the heat and everything was delicious all around. My only complaint was the chicken, which was tough and lacked flavor by itself.

Yelp
I haven't been to this spot in a few years and decided to come check it out yesterday and I regret it so much. I have no idea what went wrong but I got food poisoning and ended up vomiting all night long and ended up in urgent care the next day and won't be returning back after this experience. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy day, place was busy with one waitstaff person. We were seated right away, water brought to table. Shortly thereafter drink orders taken. When the drinks came back we placed an order for appetizers and our entrees. The appetizer was fried veggie gyoza. 6 pieces and totally yummy. Really good crunch and flavor. Entrees up next -- she had the fried chicken ramen and I the veggie ramen. She loved her food and I mine. The portions are huge and delicious. Even though there was one wait person she was amazing. Smart and cheerful. Highly recommend Totto Ramen.

Yelp
I love having a real ramen restaurant in Assembly Row! I've been coming here for years and it is so good! I like how the menu is straightforward with just a couple options. The noodles are wicked filling and delicious. The restaurant itself is small but it works for what this location is; an intimate ramen restaurant where you won't plan to spend a long time at. The service is fast and you'll be in and out much faster than a typical restaurant. They do serve alcohol here if you are wondering! Overall I would recommend this restaurant for single customers or couples. Don't come as a crowd. It's a nice small restaurant vibe and it works well!
google avatar

Yelp
Small menu but has all the popular Korean/Japanese options like Korean fried chicken, pork buns and ramen. I got the Spicy Paitan Ramen, which was OK because I have had much better - sorry but it is very hard to beat Philly's Terakawa Ramen. It wasn't spicy enough for me to feel the heat. We also tried their Curry Ramen, it was mildly flavored and had no heat. Overall just okay and hope they can work on their flavors a bit more.
google avatar

Masmin P.

Yelp
One of very few places that serves chicken broth-based ramen- yay! Even the plain kids' ramen was very flavorful. We also enjoyed the chicken curry ramen, chicken bun, and karaage chicken tenders. Small dining area with mostly tables for two, so come early if you're a larger group. We were here a couple days post Xmas, so might be busier than usual and understaffed (only one server on the floor). We'll plan to come back!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
What can I say, but the taste is terrible. It is subpar for a ramen place in a big city like Boston.
google avatar

Tyngyu C.

Yelp
The Ramen is not authentic and it doesn't taste good. The chefs tried to innovate with their house specials but I don't know if you can call it Ramen. It just tastes weird all around. The meat is not tender and they put a lot of bean sprouts. Not my favorite.
google avatar

Sonya F.

Yelp
The ramen wasn't anything special, it didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. It was a good place to grab a meal and sit outside in the summer, but would not go again.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Yum! A little pricey, but delicious. We also got the pork belly bun. Good but only had a piece of lettuce and some mayo - not very inspired, but tasted good.
google avatar

Zhe C.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot and I do like food here. They recently change new server. The server is a disaster. I ordered a karage but she brought me karage ramen. I told her I ordered the appetizer not the ramen. And then she start to show up her attitude to us. When she brought the karage to us she told us " that's called fried chicken ok? It's not karage." I told her karage is fried chicken in Japanese. And she become more angry to us. She throw the check out machine on the table without saying anything before we finished our dinner. How can you guys hire someone like this. She has no idea about the menu and showing up her attitude to everyone.

Yelp
We got the spicy chicken ramen, fried chicken ramen, and 2 kids ramen. My family took a couple bites and left to go eat somewhere else. I can't believe we paid $80 for not great ramen. Unfortunately service wasn't good either

Austin Z.

Yelp
Ramen was always just okay here. But it has gotten so much worse since my last visit. THEY DONT EVEN TOAST THE CHASHU PORK WITH A TORCH ANYMORE?! I got my ramen and noticed the pork wasn't torched, not only that it was ice cold. So I thought they forgot but I was informed they do not toast the pork anymore One of the main parts of traditional ramen is the pork. The rest of the ramen is just okay at most. I wouldn't waste my time or money here again way better ramen spots through out Cambridge and Boston
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
Ramen and gyoza were good, up to par with other ramen places. Got the Paitan Ramen. I thought that the amount of pork, albeit some people may love this, was pretty over bearing in the ramen. Just wish there was more noodles/ veggies in it. Quick service for dinner at 5:30pm.

Yelp
I really want to like this place! Atmosphere: Small restaurant with outdoor seating as well. The kitchen is a sort of open kitchen concept, so you can seee the chefs working when youre heading to the wash room. Very causal vibe in here and decor is very much around the black and red color scheme. its a cute spot. Attire: no required dress code. Food: We got the spicy paitan ramen, their super paitan and their version of calamari. Firstly, the calamari is delicious. The flavor is very on point with the salt and pepper and seasonings. One thing tho, if you do not like tentacles...you may not enjoy this as much because they do serve all parts of the squid. The spicy miso ramen is actually spicy which I love because many places say their food is spicy and its just meh. If sriracha is spicy to you...then you probably should not order this spicy ramen because you will struggle. The thing about the ramen at this place (if I remember it correctly) is they're chicken based so their broth is mainly chicken rather than your usual pork based broth. For some reason, this makes the broth have a much thicker mouth feel and feels heavy and oily. The flavors are there for this bowl, but I'm not a fan of the mouth feel (different from texture). The super paitan is their mega sized ramen with all the fixings. It is marked as a fan favorite or popular item. However, all that I tasted in this bowl was garlic. Now, dont get me wrong, I LOVE garlic and will eat a garlic clove whole, but this was overwhelming in a ramen setting. When I eat ramen, Im expecting a savory soup with depths of flavor, but if garlic is the only thing I taste, it makes it very one dimensional and the need to add condiments such as vinegar or lemon/lime or something (which I do not believe they offer). I suggest to stay away from this bowl. It's not the ramen you're craving, trust me. Location: They have a couple locations at very convenient spots in and around the city. I know there's one in the Allston/Brighton area and this location in somerville assembly square. Easy to get to both location by public transportation or driving. I suggest train if you hate looking for parking as much as I do. Price: The price point is very good for a bowl of ramen. really cant complain on this aspect. And youre definitely going to walk out with a full belly. Parking: Its in assembly square so there is parking both private free lot, meter street parking or private non-free lot. As someone that hates looking for parking, I don't really mind driving to either of their locations because parking isn't a big hassle. Overall: Eh, I keep giving this place a try because I want it to taste good and I want to like it! Ive been to multiple of their locations, even the one in NY, but I'm not impressed or satisfied. Seriously, If youre craving ramen...this won't satisfy it. And I'm not saying its bad, im just saying its not good.

Chris S.

Yelp
I'm a laymen when it comes to this sort of food, but what I got was fantastic! 2 fried chicken buns & tuna don- the flavor and textures were delicious and perfectly balanced. The amount of food you get is an incredible value - that order was way too much food for me, so bringing it home it goes! I'm in this area a lot and can't wait to come back and try the Ramen. Cheers!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Stupendous. I ordered the "signature" paitan ramen with pork, which included both pulled and sliced pork, scallions, seaweed, and a creamy broth packed with favor. Wife ordered the shrimp ramen, also spectacular. This will be a regular, for sure.
google avatar

Hashid H.

Yelp
I had the fried chicken and fries for dinner. The chicken was well cooked. It was juicy and the crust was great. I just wish it had been spicier. The fries were good and there were enough to share with the two friends I had gone there with. The dipping sauce for the fries was also very good. The service was very good too. The actual restaurant is a very humble establishment. It's nice but nothing too fancy. My other two friends ordered ramen (I forget the specifics) but they seemed to like it I think. The prices were pretty fair too. Overall, a good experience.

Yelp
I've been meaning to update my rating for a while now. Since I've last posted this is now my go to place to eat before the movies. 1. The broth has gotten better 2.The spicy paitan is delightful! Along with the spicy miso 3.There are even MORE options to add to your ramen now. 4.This is Sommerville and there is inflation so $16 start price for ramen is correct if you can't afford that there are DOZENS of cheap ramen places around, I mention this because all of there bowl are basic and if you like deep flavor like me! you will HAVE TO DO ADD ONS. 5.my average bowl is $24 6.They have an outdoor patio now! 7.The beer selection although small is legit My only gripe now with this place is the noods, I wish they had the THICC wavy noods as an option then my bowl average would be $26 every time.

Jean M.

Yelp
One of my favorite go-to spots in the area. I often order Uber-eats delivery from Totto to get their congee rice porridge. It is superb on a cold day and a great deal if you want a taste of their delicious broth without breaking the bank (and I'm nearly always craving it.) I'm not a fan of adding so much of the green onions but it is nice to look at. I've had their habanero fried chicken, char siu mayo don, and takoyaki - all of which are great on their own without a main dish, or to share with another person along with a bowl of ramen. I've tried their spicy ramen and miso ramen and they are really tasty. Since visiting Japan however I am very picky with flavor:price ratio and often don't get ramen unless it's an occasion here. I think it's normal for ramen spots in the Boston area to be around $18-25 a bowl. I consider Toto my go-to since I've never had to make a reservation and so far haven't had to wait more than ten minutes for a table. Also, there's affordable parking! Ambiance is real chill during slow times and from what I've seen, family friendly! And they have alcoholic beverages which pairs well with the meal. Would say it could be a solid casual date spot.
google avatar

Fay F.

Yelp
Totto is stealing my heart one visit at a time. They do not use pork for their broths. They have some of the best friend chicken and fried octopus; just do yourself a solid and try. My favorite so far is the curry ramen. Consistent, great service. Always chill inside. If you go after 6p, you may have to wait a little, but it's worth it.
google avatar

Ibrahim M.

Yelp
The broth didn't have enough salt. (Simple fix) Not too many options too add extra things (not always a bad thing) I had very high expectation and that is probably why I'm giving it a 3 star. But overall it was bad. Will definitely go back and try other things to see if I can change the rating to 5 stars. Ramen itself was a 3 star but the fried chicken was delicious!!! I could stop!!! Fried chicken Highly Recommend!!!
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
I was excited to try Totto, as I recall having a delightful Totto ramen experience in NYC. The taste and flavors of these two establishments, unfortunately, are not comparable. The broth is not as infused with flavor, and the char siu is very fatty. The char siu could also be torched longer for a more charred flavor. Overall, if you're craving a bowl of ramen, in the area, and don't have easy transportation options into Cambridge or Brookline, Totto is okay. Not the best, not the worst.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
The spicy paitan ramen was not good. The spicy part is a lot of black pepper that killed the flavor instead of complimenting it for me. It made it difficult to enjoy the broth. The noodles were a bit mushy. The only part that I enjoyed was the char siu pork which was pretty tender. Space is clean, service was okay, but I don't think I'll be back.

Allison L.

Yelp
Veggie ramen broth is really lacking flavor. The avocado is a weird ingredient to put in ramen, and they really need at least 1 vegetable protein option (tofu, shelled edamame). The veggie ramen is not filling with no protein options and the broth lacked flavor.
google avatar

Emi H.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place doesn't have higher rating! Their ramen is fairly priced and delicious! If you decide to dine in during COVID, they have plastic dividers between each table and all of their staff members wear masks and gloves. I felt safe while dining here. We started off with the fried chicken appetizer. It came with 6 pieces of chicken tenders with yuzu mayo on top. They were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. However, the batter didn't have too much flavor and wasn't spicy at all. They were more hot temperature-wise than spicy. As for the ramen, we got Paitan Ramen, Miso Paitan, and Spicy Paitan. Paitan Ramen had the best broth overall. It was rich and had a depth of flavor. I would highly recommend this one! The only downside is that it didn't come with any eggs so you'd have to order it as an add on. Miso Paitan was the only one we got that had half of a soft boiled egg. The egg was creamy in the middle. All of them had perfectly cooked noodles and tender, fatty pieces of chashu.
google avatar

Priscilla M.

Yelp
Disappointed. Nothing extraordinary for a noodle soup. First and last order from Totto Ramen.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
Decent ramen, small restaurant, I just wish the menu had a few more options. Service was really quick though and we were in and out in about 30 min. Great for a quick stop in between shopping (even on the weekend).

Yelp
My friends and I gathered at Totto Ramen in the Assembly Square area of Somerville for a great conversation over ramen. Since we got there shortly after they opened, we got to pick where to sit. It was great that we had almost the entire dining room to ourselves. For drinks, my boyfriend enjoyed a Night Shift Brewing Co. Santilli American IPA and I enjoyed a Downeast Cider Original Blend. For appetizers, we shared an order of Takoyaki and Fried Chicken, both of them came piping hot. The Takoyaki consisted of Japanese style deep fried octopus cakes topped with house mayo and kagome sauce and garnished with fish flakes and ginger. Unlike most karaage I've had, the Fried Chicken consisted of spicy marinated fried chicken tenders served over a bed of lettuce and finished with a yuzu mayo. My friend Matt had his usual - Mega Ramen with a few modifications - he wanted it spicy and with an onsen egg. The Mega Ramen consisted of paitan ramen with 3 types of tender pork belly, topped with scallion, onion, fried garlic, garlic paste, napa, and bean sprouts. My boyfriend had the Spicy Paitan Ramen, which consisted of a creamy broth mixed with Rayu (Japanese chili oil) and spicy sesame oil, pork charsiu, bean sprouts, and nori. The Paitan Ramen consisted of a creamy broth, straight noodles, chicken charsiu, scallion, shredded pork, onion, and nori. I liked how you could pick between pork and chicken charsiu. Shredded pork and onion were an interesting addition to the bowl but would have preferred other vegetables.

Jeff S.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure they have reduced the size of their serving bowls. They can't go up on prices as their menus are beautifully laminated, lol. Went away today still hungry. Lunch ends up being quite expensive there. Chicken in my soup was dry.
google avatar

Victoria T.

Yelp
Came on a saturday evening, it was a little busy. service is really quick though, the food came out in 5-10 mins. I got chicken paitan ramen, it was okay, not the best but not the worst. The broth was thicker than I expected. It kind of reminded me of my $1 instant chicken ramen LOL. But there was a lot of noodles in it, and I was really full after. Don't know if I would come back.

Anthony D.

Yelp
Small quant location right in the heart of assembly Row. The regular size is large enough to leave you satisfied but the mega will leave you belly-burst but in a good way. Fresh ingredients, savory broth, solid portions. This is the consistent reman place that meets expectations every single time.
google avatar

Mina H.

Yelp
I got the fried chicken bun, spicy paitan ramen, and curry ramen. fried chicken bun- really good!! the hint of yuzu was rly refreshing and made this stand out from the other buns i've tried. paitan ramen was alright, the main flavor i tasted from the broth was black pepper or maybe even white pepper? it was kinda subtle aside from the pepper so it wasn't really up my alley.,,, the curry ramen was more my thing! didnt stand out necessarily but was tasty! the straight and wavy noodles were both alright, p standard
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
What's better than ramen on a cold and rainy day? Being in the assembly area I decided to give Totto Ramen a try. I ordered the Mega Ramen in their spicy paitan version. For the price it is quite a bite of food for ramen; however, it's mainly more noodles and broth. The broth is a little too garlicky and rich for my liking as the garlic overpowers a lot of the taste offered in the ramen. If you order, I would ask for less garlic since there's fried garlic and garlic paste in the broth. The charsui bits included were a mix of slices and chunks, but I personally prefer the slided cuts compared to the chunks as the chunks were a bite on the drier side as you have to shred it to eat it. Overall, I would say it's a little costly for a bowl of ramen for one compared to other places where you could get two bowls of ramen or even a full meal: ramen, appetizer, and drink.
google avatar

Lee Joy V.

Yelp
Good ramen but I've certainly had better ones in Montreal and I'm San Francisco. Nice atmosphere. Attentive staff.
google avatar

Blake Y.

Yelp
The food was great and their was tons of it! The pot stickers and the Karrage Ramen where enough for two full meals!

Al P.

Yelp
Ramen was perfectly tender, broth was rich with flavor, and the fahts were crazy. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Totto blends modern Asian decor with traditional Ramen taste, leaving you in a comfortable atmosphere with delicious food that is accessible on a weekly basis (if not daily). The ramen was very well done, not the best either of us had ever had but definitely better than most of those jumping on the bandwagon have to offer. There are a variety of protein choices that offer traditional Char Siu, vegetarian bowls, and seafood. The broth and toppings can vary based on your tastes and level of curiosity or creativity, but you have the staples as well as some interesting features such as fermented, spicy bamboo shoots. Totto has a kind of industrial/gritty feel to it somewhere between an anime bookstore and a sushi bar. It's a really cool vibe and while it may not be as traditional as other places, it felt really accessible and unpretentious which was really welcome. The servers were attentive and friendly, helping us through our selections and questions where we had any. Our experience was superb and the value was on par with what we had expected. We'll definitely be back in the near future.

Yelp
I'm a bit bummed because this is the only ramen shop on the border of Somerville, Medford, and Everett. I decided to try the place out because it's one of the few Asian restaurants with outdoor seating. I ordered the Paitan Ramen, Totto's signature ramen. It's probably my mistake for getting chicken instead of pork, but unfortunately the chicken char-siu was incredibly hard... I couldn't bite through it at all. The shredded chicken, on the other hand, was fine. I added extra toppings--a poached egg and bamboo shoots--which I thought nicely complemented the noodles, onions, and meat in the Paitan. I'm not sure all of this together was worth $16+, though. My other small complaint is that the outdoor seating goes into a parking garage. I know that Totto is trying to expand the number of customers that it can hold, but it doesn't make for an ideal dining experience when cars are vrooming in and out of the garage (if you know Assembly Row cars, you know how obnoxious they can be...). Plus, people who just parked their cars walk VERY closely to where diners are seated which is a bit concerning when your bowls and glasses are exposed! My recommendation would be to try and sit at the front of the restaurant, not on the side.

Yelp
Ramen is decent! Wish the pork was sliced thinner and I didn't have to ask for egg on the side. The parking situation is much better than Cambridge (3 hours free parking @ Assembly Row) While I enjoy the ramen, my kids enjoy the white rice (not so much)!! $11, much better than $16 for a bowl of ramen in NYC! Long wait!! But the place is small, that's why!!

Yelp
This place is pretty terrible. Meat is thick and dry. Eggs are not the right flavor or texture. Their caggabe dominates the bowl. It's just not good or authentic in so many ways. As a local resident, I wish this place would close down so a real ramen place can take its place. Harsh, but true. Anyone who knows ramen would agree. If you don't, then you don't know ramen.

Yelp
I wrote a review and apparently it got removed here was my review "Small space, limited selections of food. Got the spicy ramen. Broth was just plain, only reason why the broth was spicy is because if the black pepper." Let me add, the server was very attentive. I asked which drink he recommended and he said the sake so I said ok, I'll try it. It was warm. I'm not sure about you but I like my beverages especially alcohol cold. It was like drinking alcoholic tea? Yuck. I will not be revisiting.

Yelp
Karrage: Was cold when served but flavor wasn't bad. Wish it was served to my table when it was still hot. Takoyaki: Was also cold. Came out together so wasn't sure if they purposely waited for everything to be done with serve it. It was a chilly day with one waitress so maybe that's the reason why it was as hot as it should be. Paitan Ramen: Finally a hot dish like its intended. I really like the soup. My boo bae got the same soup but with wavy noodles and I got the straight noodles. We both agreed that the wavy noodles was better. Maybe the wavy noods uses alkaline water to knead but it was better with the soup. Soup wasn't too fatty or rich. Not overly salty or bland. It was perfect by my definition. Can't compare to pork bone broth but this chicken broth is good.
