"In addition to moi moi, dodo (plantains), and butter bread — must-eat Nigerian dishes — this petite Marietta restaurant is big on specialties like cow legs, cow tripe (shaki), okra stew, ewedu stew made with jute leaves and popular beverages like Guinness Malta and Vita Malta. With 48-hour notice, Toyin Takeout will even cater your next party." - Carolyn Desalu

Yelp
Good. Very good African food I just get turned off by the starfish in the spinach I WISH they did not use starfish Before I knew it was starfish in the spinach -I tore it up! Devoured it in seconds because it is so good! Definitely authentic African food The food is already cooked and they just scoop it out of the silver treys in front of you. You get fufu with your order I buy some for my Kenyan friend and he loves it!

Yelp
Toyin is the best Nigerian restaurant I have ever been to. I love their egusi soup so much it took me years to finally try their their jollof rice which is smoked deliciousness. But back to the egusi: I think when you try other restaurants you may enjoy the "lighter" heaviness that others may offer. This is because palm oil is not agreeable to the typical American stomach. But when you try the others there is something missing in terms of flavor that I suppose the palm oil helps brings out. So I have to say, once you've tried the other restaurants you'll come back to Toyin as the real deal which will be further confirmed when you got a Nigerian party! Edit: I notice some are talking about customer service. What they lack is smiling. They have never been rude to me; but as an American I think we can think something is "wrong" if the person isn't smiling. They don't even smile at other Nigerians, and the Nigerians do not smile at them. When you find restaurants where the actual countrymen go to, the service is always going to lack "American restaurant hospitality" because they are in the mix with their countrymen and women and have different social norms. I will say though, I think the owner of was once hesitant to give me the white fufu (most popular ) because another Nigerian was in line and it was the last one-- but uh uh, I wasn't going for that, so KNOW what you're suppose to get! Actually, don't be a "smiley American" and it will reverse the psychology! Lol

Yelp
Meeting my Nigerian sister for lunch. This place is very unassuming...there's pictures on the wall of various tasty looking dishes, very clean. No wifi but that's ok. What's not ok is the customers who pull up in the handicapped parking and aisle area. I had to wait to get out of my car due to their inconsideration. Very frustrating for a DAV. But I Digress. I'm here for the food!! I'm trying not to start before my dear sister gets here. Started with the Yams Potage and Fish.....YUM. I treated it like an appetizer. Then I had some Goat with Egusi, Plantain, White Rice and FuFu. My final indulgence was Dodo I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. You will too.

Yelp
Possibly the best jollof rice I have ever had in Marietta. Seriously, you need this jollof rice in your life! On a more serious note, Toyin's food is delicious and reasonably priced. A meal here with Jollof, Beef, Cow Leg and Plantains is about $15. It's a pretty hefty portion, so depending on your appetite, you will likely have food for the following day. I know I did. I'm so happy to have a pretty good Nigerian eatery in Marietta that has pretty good hours. When I come to Marietta from NC, Toyin will be my first stop.

Yelp
I ordered my food online. The service and staff was excellent. Not everyone can make goat meat pepper soup to please my friend but he enjoy it, said it taste as if it was made back home in Nigeria. Very impressive.

Yelp
Had Egusi Soup w/ goat and fufu. My tastebuds and stomach are very happy now, although I was a little disappointed they don't have chicken. Not everyone knows how to cook goat correctly, but here they do it right. The fufu was perfect texture/consistency and the serving (ball) was very big for one person (but I'm not complaining). I'm VERY PICKY about West African food, especially Nigerian and Ghanian. I've spent time in Nigeria and developed a love for (most of) the food. So whenever I'm traveling to a large city the first thing that I do is find a good W. African restaurant. And Toyin doesn't disappoint. I was spending a week here in the Atlanta area and found this place on Yelp. I drove 30 minutes to get here and I'm glad that I did. I'll add it to my list of "must eat here" places whenever I'm visiting ATL. There are NO West African restaurants in my hometown (Portland, OR) so I'm always craving :(

Yelp
Best place for Africa food with reasonable affordable price. Their food is so good and not expensive very reasonable since I moved to Marietta that's been my spot.

Yelp
I LOVE African food and was happy to find a new place to try since I was further away from home. The staff was very unfriendly with me regardless of how friendly I was the whole encounter. I asked what they had since the computer screen with the menu display wasn't showing the menu. He pointed to the screen and said, it's there. I waited for it to change and it never did. So I asked if they had few traditional dishes (by name) all of which he said they didn't have. He said they only have vegetarian options and no meat dishes of any kind and that they are still working on it ( it was still a few hours until close and it seemed like they were already out of food) When the next guest comes in, he asked what they have (because the menu still wasn't to be seen any where). He lists off a fish dish, goat dish, and beef stew. Right in front of me like he didn't just tell me they didn't have any lol I had to laugh it off because it was so ridiculous. I finally ask for the Red stew with beef and asked him if there was any fish in it at all since I'm allergic. He said no. So long story short, I paid a crap ton for a box of rice. LOTS of rice and 2 tiny pieces of beef that were 80% bone. To top it off, I believe he used a spoon that had fish on it because my lips swelled up like a puffer fish from the cross contamination. They only got a second star because the stew actually did taste really good but I wouldn't go here again due to all the other issues. Just felt like I wasn't wanted there :/

Yelp
The food was okay. Nothing special to be honest. But i could have still given it a 4 stars. The reason it is a one star is the service. I know Africans usually sucks at it, but that lady looked bored and angry. She was extremely unhelpful and would show u she cannot wait for u to pay and get the f*ck out of there. She did not even let me finish signing before turning the screen away from my hand (still writing) with no apologies. She looked like she didn't care. A "hello, welcome in, "hello, how are you today?" "Thank you for stopping by," or "have a nice day" won't give you brain damage you know. It's basic manners when you deal with customers. All I got was "what do you want?" And she kept giving me dirty looks and being extra judgmental. She barely answered my questions, and talking so low I had to keep asking, "what?" "Can you repeat that please?" And it got her more aggravated. She was also sighing like she was so done with me or with being there. If you do not feel like being polite, or a decent person, or if you are having a bad day, or if your dog die and you cannot be nice to people or smile (doing your job basically), stay in the kitchen. Not that it will make a difference anyway, because some ladies kept coming out of the back interrupting me while i was talking to the lady and kept engaging her without looking at me, greeting me, or apologizing when they would butt in. It was an extremely unpleasant experience The price might be great, but it is so so not worth the bad customer service. And the food is not good enough to excuse that behavior when you work in food service industry and deal with customers. I highly recommend Ike's Cafe and Grill. I used to think they were not that good but at least the food is delicious, and the customer service is on point. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. I was in a area for a month for training and was looking for an African restaurant not too far from my hotel. What a mistake. For the remaining of my training, i won't even waste my time. I'll rather drive further. I had the egusi soup and ogbono soup with fish and tripes and pounded yam. It was just okay. The yam does not taste like the real thing. Not even close. It tastes exactly like the power you buy in some African stores and cook on the stove. Yeah this place is a big NO for me. If someone ever went and liked it, good for them. They might not know what decent customer service or delicious African food is. I wouldn't recommend the place. I didn't proofread, so excuse any mistake.

Yelp
Best I've had in Atlanta! Jollof rice is so good! Efo riro and meats as well. My husband and I have been eating here back to back!

Autumn N.

Yelp
I decided to venture to this spot since I was in the area. The reviews all seemed to be good so I figured I didn't have much to loose. It's located off Austell road in a small plaza. Walked into the restaurant and wasn't impressed with ambiance (better yet lack there of). The inside is very questionable. The lady serving the food was not welcoming and was extremely loud. Ugh. Despite the inside, I ordered anyway. I ordered egusu with fish (no starch) and jollof with fish. The food was not good at all. The egusi seemed to lack flavor, the portion size was very small. The jollof tasted like parboiled rice with salt less stew poured over it. The plantains were hard and dry. I am very familiar with Nigerian food and was shocked at how bland the food tasted. If you're just craving Nigerian cuisine and in the area, give it a try for yourself. I think there are restaurants in Atl that are much better (e.g. African Grill, Ike's Cafe).

Yelp
Have you ever just let Yelp find the nearest well reviewed restaurant and then gone with it, even though you know nothing about the type of food? Yeah, well I did that today. And I'll do it again. Toyin (no idea how it's pronounced or what it means) is African food. So when I entered, the gal behind the counter thought I might have been in the wrong place. But I told her I'd never had this before and I'd like to give it a try. "What do you recommend," I asked. So here's what she brought me. Served in a to go styrofoam box even though I was eating here was a massive pile of two types of rice, some sort of bean paste (maybe), a few fried plantains and two hunks of meat that I am pretty sure were beef (but could have been goat I suppose) cooked in a tomato sort of sauce. Surprisingly not very spicy at all but it was certainly filling and it was absolutely a friendly experience. Bummer that they only have a cooler of Coke products and a few ginger beers. I'd have really loved to have a good African beer with this.

Yelp
This was my first time here; I came with a friend. I SOOO enjoyed it. The woman at the counter was so nice. The food was nice. I will return.

Yelp
My favorite Nigerian restaurant! I drive all the way from Gwinnett here every other Saturday. I wish she was open on Sundays but man must rest abi?! I like pretty much EVERYTHING she makes and since she's Yoruba, its Yoruba style. I think my fav is the moi-moi although i wish hers has hard boiled eggs in it but thats ok. Would probably make it less available than it is now which is already not very available. lol. I also like her Efo riro and Egusi soup. Her Ayaymase stew is also great and i like to order at least 2 puff-puffs to eat on my journey back home with a bottle of Vita-Malt. I brought my friend who was visiting from London here and she was amazed. I must say Nigerian food in London is amazing but Toyin's is just as good!

Terra R.

Yelp
We had the worst experience here... The woman who I believe to be the owner looked at me with disgust. This lady was rude and frown at me the entire time while I was there... She didn't greet us when we came up to place the order yet greeted the Nigerian woman behind us...Instead of asking me what would I like she pointed... She treated us VERY HARSHLY in her establishment all because, I am a Black American woman that was with a Nigerian man she looked at him with such disappointment... This was a really bad feeling and very racist....I have eaten the food plenty of times because it is good but I always send my boyfriend in to get it but this was my first time going inside.... To experience racism by someone who has the same skin complexion as my mother was very heartbreaking... I send all my friends here when they come to visit because of the food but never again and for all Black American women if you want this food don't go with a Nigerian Man because you will most definitely be JUDGE by this woman, which is so shameful

Yelp
Coming from Baltimore and Washington DC I was not expecting to find a tasty west African spot in Marietta. However, Toyin does not disappoint! The food was delicious. I got to go see and had enough for my dinner that day and my lunch the next day. I would have given them a five but I found the fish to be a little dry. It was tougher than I like and also they had somewhat of an issue with me wanting white rice instead of Fufu. I didn't mind paying extra! It just seem to irritate the cashier a little bit. But we got over it and end up laughing about it. The place is surprisingly cute. They even have a quaint sitting area if you want to stay there and eat. It's a little off the beaten path if you can catch the food truck in the street; however, it's worth the few extra minutes to get there. I'm glad to know that I can find some of my favorite dishes in the area and I will visit again when I come back to Atlanta.

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
First time here! We just didn't understand why they have Hispanic people cooking and serving the food!! If I have a taste for Nigerian cuisine, I want my guest to experience Nigeria, just by the atmosphere of any Nigerian restaurant. Kokoye's took our order and were making pounded yam in the kitchen. It was a turned off. I'd rather continue going to African grill in Stone Mountain or Ike's cafe in Norcross. This place has identity crisis. Furthermore, they don't add enough Maggie. Smh. I go die

Ara A.

Yelp
Fantastic, absolutely authentic I had the efo riro and the egusi the owner Aunty toyin let me get half and half. I'm Nigerian so I know what the food is supposed to taste like. I was visiting Atlanta and I had to try this place, it has the highest rating for a Nigerian restaurant. Aunty toyin was pleasant and accommodating she interacted with all customers as the owner should.

Yahya B.

Yelp
More customer service needed to be put in place by the owner called Toyin. Extremely lack customer service etiquette. Toyin do better

Lynx M.

Yelp
If you aren't paying attention you can miss the place. The neighborhood is on the sketchy end of Austell road across from some shady looking apartment complex. There is a neighborhood corner store next door with some unsavory individuals posted up outside so beware! The restaurant is small but it has about 5 - 6 tables for dine in. Their food score was a 85 B, that almost discouraged me but the place was packed. these rude ass Africans ahead of me giving the Spanish lady (who was fixing the to go boxes and ringing people up) a hard time ordered $50 worth of food so that's why I stayed. Africans are cheap and will needle you to death on they shouldn't pay full price on something lol hey don't be mad at me take that up with Nigerians lol I've been to Africa many times and it's true! The Spanish lady was very pleasant and there was a Spanish lady cooking in the back, I WAS BLOWN AWAY but then again us Latinas can do it all. **shrugs** hey Im puerto rican in a west african restuarant and know the food as good as any west african. I saluted her for her service and left a tip in the tip jar. The food looked fresh and smelled good. I ordered the vegetable with tripe and goat. She gave me two meaty pieces of tripe and 1 huge hunk of goat, it comes with pounded yam. My order was like $13 and some change, not baf considering if i made it at home it woulsve cost more than that. I got home, heated up my food (suprisingly it was still warm from the restaurant but I wanted it steaming hot) The pounded yam was so billowy and smooth, it was like someone's grandmother made it! The vegetable was to die for!!!! THE BEST I'VE HAD IN ATLANTA THUS FAR BESIDES WHEN I MAKE IT AT HOME. it was seasoned to perfection and spicy! This is true west African food! I can't wait to try their other dishes. I got great food and great customer service. Very impressed, I had low expectations but they went above and beyond with the food and the service! I will most certainly be back if I'm in the neighborhood.

Debb A.

Yelp
I like the yam porridge (Tuesday/Thursday) and I usually like the rice and stew. The food is authentic and consistent. The problem is the service. The sister of the owner is very rude and will rush you threw ordering your food. She's usually in the front. My advise to toyin is to put a more pleasant server in the front. I will return but my friends already made up there mind that they will not be spending money here ever again. Moral of the story, customer service is key.

Mina R.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Just plain RUDE. Could do better to make customers feel welcomed and not rushed. Smile and greet(simple). No menu to make your choice. I asked for a menu and she pointed to the tv which only showed drinks and goat meat‍. Tried the egusi soup and it was SOUR. Ordered jollof rice and 4 pieces of goat meat the price was $19.04 (Overpriced) compared to what the menu that I compared to her website after buying. DO BETTER

Lola A.

Yelp
Came to ATL for business and after searching yelp, wanted to try out a motherland restaurant... Being a Nigerian, I am very critical about visiting new places but I decided to give this a try and I must say, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.... Ms. Toyin is such a nice lady and her smile is very welcoming. I went in and ordered myself a plate of amala and ogbono. The dishes by the serving table looked so tempting and I asked Ms toyin to do half and half ogbono with egusi! She gladly did so. I was so impressed by the deliciousness that I decided to take 3 dishes back home with me For those none Nigerians trying out these dishes, know that it is an acquired taste. Start small and go slow. You can try out her very delicious jollof rice, dodo and meat. Then move on to other delicacies. I feel her prices where very reasonable and every time I go to ATL, I will definitely hit up Toyin's The only thing I will say that is negative i that the puff puff I got that day was a bit too oily

Erica T.

Yelp
I ate such wonderful Egusi stew! The goat meat was so tender and amazing. I felt like I was in a grandmother's house in Lagos. It was great!

Stricky T.

Yelp
The best by far...........the Nigerian flavours are perfect. Eat to your hearts desire....the portions are large so be very careful, you might need a nap in your car before driving off.............it's just that good........I wish they sold palm wine, Gulder or Star beer..... Anyway......I had pounded yam with egusi & ogbono soups (with stockfish)......best of both worlds..........I added a wholesome piece of fish & beef to round it off.......remarkably lush

Nyomi E.

Yelp
Delicious African cuisine. I love to visit Toyin every time I'm in Atlanta. It always satisfies my ethnic food craving.

Asher P.

Yelp
This place was really good my friend recommended this place and I tried with my family. I really liked the owners they were nice that is all I have to say. (Btw you should try the joloff rice)

Marveliah F.

Yelp
The food is pretty darn good, however the customer service is PISS POOR, the owner is SO unprofessional it's sickening, there is a cashier that works there that has THEE nastiest attitudes, and she's very rude I drove an hour 1 1/2 to get there after work, got there around 7 no good was out it was all in the back and most of the food was "finished" because the owner said she was tired and wasn't making any more food!! WOW!!! As stated previously the foods good but the service is beyond TERRIBLE!!! I'll never spend my hard earned coins there again!!!!!

Dave B.

Yelp
Food is always fresh. It's a small space so look to do a carry-out. It is pretty affordable too. High turnover. Many people are in and out.

Vanessa W.

Yelp
If you're looking for great home cooking, made by a proper Naija mum ... Toyin's is it! Awesome food at all times, I have no complaints whatsoever.

Ngo O.

Yelp
Lovely!!! Wish it wasn't such a long ride. Loved it. I ordered moi moi, soup with pounded yam and jollof rice. We really enjoyed them. The place next door was supposed to be open from 11am, I got there at about 3 and the lady said she had just returned from the market about to cook so I was so glad toyin had everything hot and ready. Will surely return.

Jing W.

Yelp
I'm an Asian whose only exposure to African food was Ethiopian food prior to my visit to Toyin so I had no idea what to expect. Well it's my bad for not doing some research first. The person whom I believe was Ms. Toyin seemed to think that my friend and I entered the place by accident. The fact is, we drove 20 miles to try her food. My friend asked her to give us some recommendations but she didn't (or maybe she did by giving us what she thought was something we should try). We ended up randomly ordering something from the menu (or maybe not?). The food ordering process was a very confusing and frankly, a bit frustrating. I still have no idea what I ordered and what I could have ordered. We were going to order two dishes but we ended up with one plate that has several items and fufu for one person. I believe there was a cultural gap or some mis-communication because I don't think she was being rude. As for the food itself, I don't know how to describe it except to say that it's a little unusual. As an Asian who loves SE Asian food and have been exposed to weird looking, smelling and tasting food, Nigerian food is not too weird and spicy and I think it's great and worth trying! But to my friend, it's too weird. I'm glad we only ordered one dish because I was the only person eating it. For those that have never tried Nigerian food, make sure you ask if the food is spicy as they love spicy food and perhaps ask to try the food or buy smaller portions to see if you like the food. The portions are huge (esp. the fufu which can feed at least 2 persons), so have food put in a take-out box. It's an interesting experience and I enjoyed the food. I will go again when I have a chance but this time, I'd do my homework first so that I know what I am getting myself.
