I had high hopes as this restaurant is highly recommended so it could just be a personal view and not the majority, the toilets were outside and it was cold, the food was nice but not amazing apart from the steak as that was excellent, staff were lovely, location Is a bit odd too, I would be wary if I was on my own. The company was fantastic though, always good to catch up.

We visited Träkol for Sunday lunch and we left very satisfied. We started with some fresh oysters and Bloody Mary. The main course, roast beef, was perfectly cooked (medium rare), delicious and tender, and came with all the trimmings which were equally scrumptious, especially the cauliflower cheese. I would go back and certainly recommend a visit.

The food is amazing... good menu, well explained and well cooked. The Feasting shared meals should be experienced. The fish of the day was trout with crab & caviar butter/sauce - delicious! The steak with bone marrow was also very flavorsome. The Feasting dishes are big, particularly the fish; comfortable sharable between 3, or 4 smaller eaters. The staff didn't mention this and we ended with too many starters and almost 1/2 the fish was left which we would take out but they didn't have bags (only boxes) therefore couldn't take to our next stop. What a real shame that was. The wine list was short but a few goodies at reasonable prices. The staff were attentive but didn't know how to read the customers, and kept interrupting to take orders, direct questions, etc... other than that good service. Toilets are shared with other venues and on Saturday night when we went, the ladies' was in a poor state. When informed the staff took the feedback well and attended to it quickly. I haven't been to many places in NCL but would agree with those whose say one of the best places in town.

Fabulous experience from the start. Friendly staff, fabulous location under the iconic Tyne Bridge, outside seating for a pre dinner drink by the river. Starters more a sharing plate - pigs tail unusual but tasty. Rib of beef main at £85 for 3 to share was great value and absolutely excellent. Margaret River wine v good too. Highly recommended.

- Great beers. Amazing views. Cool vibe. Log cabin feel. - Well cooked meat. Good Sunday roast. Well priced too. - Starters and small plates are disappointing - The roast pigs head was an experience but wouldn't have it again. - The 1kg prime rib was better the first time. The smoked marrow is lovely. It's a nice restaurant and high on the list if you're looking to impress.

Very interesting menu but disappointing eating experience . Disappointment down possibly to our food choices, but what we did have - I expected a little better. I would go back and definitely make different choices. Good atmosphere and great service.

Been 2 years since here last, still on point, well cooked, inventive and nourishing food. The steak sharing platter is well worth it for a treat, super well seasoned, this might put some off, but I love plenty sodium so suited me. Worth noting staff were great- attentive but not intrusive, friendly with some advice when asked about dishes, thanks guys.

The food at Traköl was delicious - fresh, high quality ingredients, and melt in your mouth flavours. The beetroot, rhubarb and pumpkin seed veggie dish was the unsung hero, what an unexpected delight! We ordered the lamb and sirloin steak for mains which were cooked perfectly but were very rich and could’ve used something to balance that out. I was hoping to find a chocolate dessert on the menu but sadly not there, and they were out of the goats curd ice cream so we skipped on dessert, maybe another time! All in all, I would definitely recommend going here, the food was great! I think was expecting just that little bit more from them to give it 5 stars as I’d heard amazing things from others.

Yelp
Trakol recently got a rave review in the Guardian, and it's clearly well deserved. My husband and I were lucky enough to go before the buzz reached its pick, but if you are going now you need to book well in advance (or go on a weekday at a weird time). However you get there, get there, because it's an amazing meal. It's located in the By The River Brewing Company complex, a great riverside addition to the area. The open kitchen shines through the dimly lit room, showing you the skilled chefs at work. As they put it, they are a "fiercely seasonal, nose-to-tail" restaurant, and it shows. The meat is local - I believe much of it supplied from our favourite butcher, Block and Bottle. All the snacks and small plates are great, but the "feasting" platters are the star. We went for the pork, which features pork belly, a huge chop, black pudding, and the crowning glory - half a roast pig's head! Plus delicious apples and potatoes. Have I mentioned yet that this place probably isn't for sanctimonious vegetarians? This place is for people who eat meat, respect where it comes from, and are willing to look their dinner in the eye. And shouldn't we? If we eat it, shouldn't we face up to the fact that pork comes from an animal, that was once alive, with a head? Plus, the pig's cheeks are so darn tasty, and the crackling on that pig was utterly glorious. We ate like kings. I'm thrilled for them that they're receiving such accolades, but annoyed it's so hard to get a table!
