The 19 Best Restaurants In West Hollywood

"West Hollywood will always be famous for its queer culture and next-level nightlife, but there’s also a substantial Russian and Ukrainian community that predates the city itself. And at the heart of it is  Traktir. This Eastern European spot takes comfort food to a different level: pillowy, potato-filled vareniki topped with fried onions, chicken blintzes smothered in mushroom sauce and shaved cheese, and beef stroganoff arriving like a creamy centerpiece built for a royal banquet. Portions are generous, so if it’s your first time, bring as many people as you can—and don’t forget to order a sampler of their house-infused vodka. " - brant cox, nikko duren

Traktir Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s easy to drive down Santa Monica Boulevard or the Sunset Strip and pigeonhole West Hollywood as a neighborhood. And sure, queer culture and next-level nightlife is a crucial (and historic) part of this city. But drive further east and those dance clubs and valet lines give way to tiny bakeries, groceries, and cafes that make up the city's substantial Russian and Ukrainian community. And at the heart of it all sits Traktir. This Eastern European restaurant is emblematic of a part of West Hollywood that predates the founding of the city itself. It’s also simply a fantastic place to eat—a local cornerstone with delicious homestyle food, a quirky waitstaff, and no shortage of vodka shots. You could describe a meal at Traktir as “one giant hug,” but that’s selling it short. A meal here is a giant hug, plus three weighted blankets, five scalp massages, and a Casper body pillow, all at once. Save for a dill-y cucumber and feta salad, every dish that’ll hit your table will probably involve meat, potatoes, sour cream, or some combination of all three. Our advice: embrace the embrace. Pillowy, potato-filled vareniki are topped with a layer of fried onions, while chicken blintzes come smothered in mushroom sauce and sprinkled with shaved cheese. Beef stroganoff arrives looking like a creamy centerpiece built for a royal banquet. If you’re in the mood for light and dainty food put together with tweezers, there’s plenty of that nearby. The fact that Traktir has committed to exactly the opposite is what makes dinner here refreshing. photo credit: Jessie Clapp You can absolutely come to Traktir by yourself—we often do on chilly nights when our preferred blanket is a warm bowl of borscht—but if it’s your inaugural visit, bring friends. The portions here are generous and intended to be shared by tables of people who know each other. Most nights extended families crowd into the stained-glass-decorated space and pass giant platters of meat-filled dumplings, stuffed cabbage, and marinated chicken kebabs. A table of eight is considered intimate dining. Smiling waiters arrive with house-infused horseradish vodka shots before they bring out water. There will probably be a light sing-along to a Moldovan music video on one of the TVs. The experience speaks for itself and that’ll get just about anybody through the door. It’s the food, however, that’ll keep them coming back. Well, that and the vodka shots. Food Rundown photo credit: Jessie Clapp Infused Vodka That’s right, infused vodka. We’re not talking about the cheap flavored vodka you drank in college out of a Camelback. Traktir’s house-infused spirits are an essential part of a meal here (you’ll spot a few glasses on every table). These shots aren’t meant to be chugged, but slowly sipped to allow the flavor to mingle with each dish. There are five flavors to choose from—horseradish, pepper-garlic, black currant, raspberry, and cranberry—and you should absolutely do the sinus-clearing horseradish. Or, if you really want to make it a night, go for the five shot sampler for $25. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Ukrainian Borscht A beautiful bowl of soup. Colored a deep purplish-red, this sweet, tangy beet-based soup is the best starting point for any meal at Traktir, regardless of the temperature outside. We say that because you can either get served hot or cold. And both are delicious. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Darnitsky Salad Greens are hard to come by at a place like Traktir, which is why this salad’s a smart order. Chopped tomatoes and cucumbers are tossed with feta, dill, and a bright house vinaigrette—crunchy and fresh, consider it a nice breather before the heavier dishes arrive. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Pelmeni There are two dumpling styles to choose from at Traktir, the large, potato-filled Vareniki and these cute little babies. Order both if you’re with a big group, but if you only have room for one, the sweet chicken-pork-lamb-filled pelmeni take the cake. The sour cream on the side gives a punch of tanginess, plus it’s fun to pop them in your mouth like cherry tomatoes. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Chicken Blintzes This glorious dish sits at the summit of Mt. Traktir. Thick, spongey crepes are stuffed with sweet ground chicken, then buried in rich mushroom sauce and blanketed with shredded white cheese for good measure. It makes every cream of mushroom-based casserole you ate as a kid look like a cucumber smoothie, which is why even though it’s technically an appetizer, you can treat it as an entree. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Chicken Shashlik There are a few handsome chicken dishes on Traktir’s menu (like the tabaka, a pan-seared pressed cornish hen), but this is the best of the bunch. Chunks of thigh meat are marinated in a blend of house spices, giving it a sweet, smoky flavor, then seared to golden perfection. The result is a kebob so moist and tender that chewing basically feels optional. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Beef Stroganoff No longer the Hamburger Helper dish your mom made when she didn’t want to cook, the beef stroganoff at Traktir is given the royal treatment. Slices of beef are cooked to tenderness in a rich sour cream sauce, with a mountain range of soft, buttery mashed potatoes on the side. It’s simple, comforting, and the one big entree that’s a non-negotiable order." - Brant Cox

Five Best Russian Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Order vodka at this white tablecloth tavern in West Hollywood. Homemade vodka shots are doled out with large kosher dill pickles as chasers. The plates are kitsch but the food on top of them is tasteful. The stand-out dish is galubsty, ground veal and rice stuffed and steamed cabbage oblongs, which aren’t easy to find. This no-frills entree arrives with three galubsty and just the right side of fresh dill and sour cream, like all good things Russian." - Tanya Akim

I’ve been coming here with my whole family for my entire life (several decades), and the sweet waiter/host always remembers us 🥹 We love popping in for some dumplings, herring with dill potatoes (my favorite appetizer), borscht, darnitsky salad, chicken tabaka, and various skewers. Their infused vodkas are great, and their compote (cold stewed fruit beverage) is amazing and tastes just like my grandma’s. The atmosphere is relaxed and breezy, and we’ll be coming here forever. I recommend Traktir to all my friends, so definitely come here if you can! I also love stopping at the deli next door to bring home some yummy salads, premade entrees, and cakes!!

Google
Rating: 2 out of 5. Mostly because of the shady practices to get tips. The place itself is lovely — cozy atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, tasty food. We were greeted by a warm and caring server, and everything went smoothly… until the bill came. We were just two people, but an 18% tip was automatically included — without any notice. Maybe that’s normal in LA, but it felt off. What really bothered us was how the check was presented: it was folded in a way that hid the breakdown, showing only a line suggesting another 18%, 20%, or 25% tip. This setup can easily trick guests into tipping twice — first the automatic gratuity, then another one on top, thinking it hasn’t been included yet. That’s not okay. If they’d asked for a small extra tip — like 2% or 4% — sure, no problem. But charging 18% upfront and then asking for the same again feels dishonest. Good food and service, but the tipping practice ruined the experience for us. That’s why it’s 2 stars.

My husband has come to Traktir multiple times, but this was my first time going and Dimitri took such excellent care of us. He ensured that my first experience was complete with a shot of black pepper and garlic vodka (they infuse their own vodka: my husband got the horseradish infused vodka). We got the beet salad, potato verniki, a soup and the pork Shaschlik (don’t forget to pair with a glass of Kvass). It was the best pork dish I have ever had and we are now back a week later. Do yourself a favor try this place out and then go to the market next door to grab all your favorite juices, pickled goods and salads. Don’t forget a loaf of the Black bread (we prefer the one without brown sugar that starts with an S).

Took me a few days to get around to writing this review, I don’t usually do this! But this place was so good to my friend and I! Wed just finished a long day of hiking, wrapping up my birthday and I had a taste for Eastern European food. Something grounding and simple but full of substance and nutrition for the body! For whatever reason this place stood out when doing a quick search- and damn am I glad I followed my intuition. The service was some of the best I’ve had in a while. No frills or fake smiles just genuine energy. The place is very modest which is what I like about it. The food was beautifully prepared and enjoyed. What a memorable experience. Thank you again!!!

Very tasty Ukrainian food here, waitress was also very friendly and did good her job. Here you can find a store with European food and goods with pretty good prices. Good place to find new connections from Europe and eat some tasty food. Really recommend here mors, borsch and pork shashlik

Google
Wonderful first time experience. The seating is great, as it's half open air. The home made infused vodka is so smooth. The borscht and golubtsy are fantastic. I can't wait to come back.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we decided to dine here. What a wonderful experience. Our service was so kind explaining the food and vodka. The Sturgeon was very tasty. Cooked medium as it can get tough, ours was juicy & flakey. The dumplings were a fun tastey treat. Now the salad was a taste bud explosion! Full of fresh herbs & the garlic dressing was delicious. The vodka tasting was fun. This is a must visit place! BTW there is a nice little market next door where you can pick up some Ukrainian/Russian treats. Parking was easy with a lot attached with plenty of spots.

Google
Traktir Russian Restaurant – A Hidden Gem on Santa Monica Blvd I’ve been coming to Traktir for years, and it never disappoints. The food is an excellent example of authentic Russian cuisine—delicious, comforting, and made with care. From the borscht to the pelmeni, every dish is packed with flavor and tradition. The service is always warm and attentive, and the atmosphere makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re new to Russian food or grew up with it, Traktir offers a truly wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious. We ordered borscht, herring and potatoes, potato vareniki, pelmeni, and Lula kabob. I enjoyed every dish. Service was friendly and funny. We appreciated the welcoming host. Ambiance was nice, plenty of seating, and can sit large groups. Will have to come back when the deli is open for more Ukrainian/Russian deli staples.

Yelp
I had not been at that place in a very long time but today I met a friend of mine there for lunch and as usual, the food was delicious but altogether a little pricey I had a chicken Tabaka, which is simply a spatchcock Cornish hen, it came with a little side of cabbage salad. My friend ordered the Pini with a side of sour cream and also an appetizer salad.. Their bread came to the table, super fresh and warm Prior to my lunch, waiting for my friend I went to the Russian deli that they have next-door connected to the restaurant, and I ordered a lot of specialties : smoked chicken and smoked white fish and some chicken meatballs and also some real sausage! Again, great choice of items but a little pricey I highly recommend Traktir and the Russian deli next-door!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Russian food in West Hollywood. I LOVE their borscht so much. Along with the potatoes, pickled veggies and pickled herring. Everything is made with love.

Yelp
Ordered through uber eats bc I've been waiting to try this restaurant for bit and i don't live in weho. They only offer delivery on select days btw. Can't wait to dine in and try their array of vodkas. The borscht is 10/10 !! It is EXACTLY how it should taste, i would eat/order it daily if i lived closer. And they hook it up with the sour cream for no extra cost, as it should be lol. Fried vareniki 10/10, probably would be even better fresh dined in. Comes with tons of yummy fried onions. Definitely trying boiled vareniki next. Not sure of ambiance due to to go order. But im sure it lives up. If you are looking for authentic russian/slavic food this is the place. Tastes like mamusia makes. Absolutely recommend. Will be my go to borscht/vareniki spot.

Yelp
See photo. Mors or less? Half-full or half-empty? Consumed or spiked? Offered 1/2 refund. Would you drink the remaining 1/2? Updated: I added a star because the herring is good.

Yelp
I had lunch with co-workers at Traktir on Friday (my belated birthday lunch for work). I believe this was my 5th year choosing this location, and I have to say they did not disappoint. Service is always friendly and the food outstanding. The table shared Olivier Salad, Darnitsky Salad, Herring on toast, Pelmeni (eorth requesting the mushroom sauce), and cabbage rolls. My main course was the Beef Tenderloin Shashlik (rare) paired with a shot of horseradish infused vodka and a Baltic beer. Love this place!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal. We were really familiar with Russian food and our server was patient and helpful from start to finish. The infused vodkas are a great way to begin any meal here. We loved the authentic borcht and the staff was nice enough to split into two portions for us. The kasha was incredible as was the herring starters. And we loved the fresh cucumber salad. Our mains were equally wonderful. The Chicken Kiev was incredible. Just one note that the music inside on a Saturday night was a bit too loud but other than that we can't wait to come back and try everything else.

Christopher B.

Yelp
The food is generally good, though some dishes are much better than others. However, the customer service is some of the worst I've experienced. The wait staff is somewhere between "indifferent" and "outright rude" depending on the night you visit. And that's when you're lucky enough to be seated; sometimes they close the place down for special events without putting any sort of notification on their website, their social media, etc.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a Saturday night for a casual dinner. I don't eat Eastern European food often but always enjoy it when I do. I called Traktir the same afternoon and made a reservation for that night. We parked on the street near the restaurant; there was ample street parking near the restaurant. When we arrived, one of the staff greeted us and sat us at a table promptly. My husband and I looked to be the only non-Eastern European people dining here. The ambiance here is simple, with a rustic vibe. They have indoor dining available, although the section of the restaurant that we were in had open air. We shared the pelmeni to start. These were served with sour cream on the side and crispy fried onions on top. The dumplings had been boiled and were very soft and easy to eat. My husband got the chicken tabaka for his main, which looked like a traditional roast chicken. I had the chicken blintzes for my main. This was technically an appetizer, but the serving was big enough to eat as my main dish. I also was full just from eating half of it and had leftovers to take home. The blintzes were stuffed with ground chicken and covered in a creamy mushroom sauce with shredded cheese on top. I really enjoyed these. They felt very decadent and rich. My husband also loved them when he ate them the next day. We had a great meal here. Service was efficient and friendly. I'd recommend coming here if you're craving Eastern European food around West Hollywood.

Yelp
Always amazing. This is the one russian restaurant that stays consistently delicious. Everyone is always so kind and welcoming, it feels like eating at home. Thanks for the very full tummies all around!

Yelp
a normal cafe but the price is quite high and I didn't really like the ambience. I don't know what else to say.

Yelp
There is a lot of traditional Eastern Europe food here! Really enjoy that the menu is so large and really you can find something to please everyone (I'm not the biggest Russian food fan). The things my husband and I enjoyed were the olivier salad, borscht, potato vareniki and both chicken entrees we ordered. The service was also great, we were constantly checked on and helped! Lastly they have a great assortment of vodkas and beers! Do recommend!

Peter F.

Yelp
Delicious straightforward, deftly prepared Russian and Ukrainian food, spirited and friendly service (you can tell the proprietors take pride in their cuisine and culture),,and a light and relaxed atmosphere.

Don't have enough words to describe how good this restaurant is!!! First of all the service is amazing, you get seated very quickly, and food comes out in few minutes, also everyone is really nice! Yelp
My friends have been here before and suggested it for dinner. I have never had Russian food, but it was similar to the Polish food I've tried. There is a parking lot next to this place - we weren't sure if it was valet, so we found street parking. Apparently the meters are all hours of the day, so park on the lot if you can. We sat down, scanned the menu and waited for someone to come by to take our order. It was pretty busy and no one came, so my hubby went and flagged down a waiter. I guess you can also order via online page, but I like ordering from a human when possible. I think it was the owner who took our order. He was very funny and friendly. The boys got some vodka flavored shots - raspberry and horseradish. My friend and I shared a bottle of sparkling water. We got the fried potato varenkis to start, a beet salad, the herring with potatoes and a borsch soup. For our mains, my friend and I both got the lula kebob, her bf got the pork kebab and my hubby got the chicken tabaka which is a flatten cornish hen. Food came out and was delicious! The potato varenkis were nice and crispy, the beet salad was flavorful and went nicely with bread. My hubby and I are not a fan of herring but my friends loved it! The borsch soup was delicious and came with cheesy bread. Mains were delicious as well! Overall a great spot for Russian/Ukrainian food! Would definitely

Yelp
Incredible place! Everything, from the atmosphere to the service, left the most positive impressions. The food was excellent--each dish was prepared with love and skill. I will definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant with top-notch service and amazing cuisine. A huge thank you for a wonderful evening!

Yelp
First I want to mention their infused vodka! I tried the horseradish and the pepper & garlic vodka and wow was so good!! Got their borscht and lamb chops which were also very good. Will come back to try my favorite pelmeni and some other goodies on their menu. Service was great the girl was very nice. Loved this restaurant, will be back soon!

Yelp
It's been awhile since I had some food from my home region. So I dragged my friends to Traktir because the reviews were good. We started off with the vodka sampler and the sampler comes with cranberry, horseradish, garlic and a few I can't remember. The pickles that come with the sampler are good as well, however, the vodka did seem like it was diluted or they just use a very smooth vodka..I just think it's the first option. For appetizers we had the beets salad and pig fat. The beets salad was amazing, especially the real authentic bread like you world get in Eastern Europe. The Salo or pig fat is definitely a cultural experience, so if you like different cultures, try it! The Olivier salad was also good and super traditional like you would get in Eastern Europe. For entree, I had the chicken sashlik and it was also great. The napoleon cake is also very good if you have not had it before. The service was friendly. It's probably the most authentic Eastern European place in SoCal.

Yelp
I came here for Ukrainian borscht. Thanks Yelpers for helping me find it! There's something slightly magical about the rainbow flag blowing in the wind, next the American flag, while eating a bowl of Ukrainian borscht at a Russian restaurant sitting in front of the beautiful backdrop of classic West Hollywood, and the people drawn here by the warmest welcome. There's a sweet patio with a formal feel, tables nicely spaced apart. COVID safety policies, A plus! Russian mothers and daughters are holding hands. Eastern European friends are getting together. Tear- stained faces are trying some things for the first time, in honor and homage to current events. I'm practicing my newly-learned Russian in my head before I order. Sba cee ba! Das de .. (I tried!) I knew what I wanted thanks to pictures online so I only had to point. "Russian and Ukrainian borscht, same thing" says the polite waiter with a big smile. There's beautiful music playing in the background. I ordered a pitcher of dried fruit juice. It tastes like apricot honey nectar, five stars. Ukrainian borscht is a slow cooked soup with a lot of color typically. This one has chunks of stewed beef, sweet onions, beets, potatoes and transparent vegetables. The broth is rich and flavorful. A big bowl of this magical stuff will only set you back about ten bucks. The view is worth ten times that. To me. I admired every plate as it passed. Everything here looks delicious. There's a very good lunch special offered Monday through Friday before 3 PM which includes an appetizer or soup. Borscht included! A single bowl of soup here is enough to fill you up if you're a light eater. Don't skimp on the vodka if you want to do it like the natives. I can't wait to come back and try everything on the menu. I left with a full tummy and an unforgettable meal, with a beautiful view. Thanks for letting me share it with you.:)

Nimet E.

Yelp
Very good borscht everything tastes fresh and homemade. The selection of flavored vodkas are interesting too

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants when I visit LA. I come here every single time since it opened. Like 10 years. The food is always deliscious, impeccable service. Kharcho and pork is 5 stars always.

Yelp
Honestly this place reminds me of home, the food is really good, and they women behind the counter will give you generous portions!

Yelp
Came here after a 12 mile hike on an early Sunday evening to grab some Russian food with some friends! This place wasn't our first choice but were glad they were open and would definitely come again. Don't have a lot of experience with Russian cuisine but what we ate was delicious! They have infused vodkas which the waiter did recommend when we sat down but I didn't realize they were infused, would definitely want to try the cranberry! They didn't have any Napoleon cake which is definitely my favorite Russian dessert, but they were all out due to it just being Russian Christmas, so would love to come back and munch on some. There's a parking lot next door which was convenient for the Weho location of the restaurant.

Alexander T.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant many times. A solid 4-star. Delicious food, extremely convenient location. Friendly staff. The only "star" that is missing - is the speed of service (sometimes the wait is veeeery long), probably due to being a bit understaffed. But otherwise, all good! Highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Ane V.

Yelp
I used to come here for lunch with my client and her family pre Covid. It is a convenient location since they shop at the Russian deli next door. I had the Chicken Shashlik. It is well seasoned and tender. It came with coleslaw and fried potatoes. Customer service is good. They are helpful and checks on you from time to time. Private parking as well as metered street parking.

Yelp
This is a beautiful place. From the entrance we felt like we were at home. Dmitriy was a fantastic person from the very beginning, he turned out to be such a pleasant person that he gave us feeling that we were friends and invited us into Traktir's house. And so we did not want to leave! Great experience! Overall food was wonderful especially Borsh!
google avatar

Jay H.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! First time we ever had Russian food and it did not disappoint. Staff was friendly and helpful. The food is cooked fresh and is worth the wait. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone!! THX

Yelp
The best Russian food I have ever had. Get the perogis with caramalized onions. Get the karcho and borsch soups Get there early enough to go to their market and get some olives pickles chocolates and wine. I go as often as possible. People are so nice. Don't forget the homemade vodka flight. A little slow. Very authentic

Yelp
The food was good, though Borsh was a bit too sweet, the service was good. However, I was not thrilled by a slight up sale of pitchers of drinks instead of the glasses. of course could have sent back the pitchers, but it was harder once the kids saw them.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing brings more comfort than soul food. I am not talking about greens and fried chicken. I am talking about food that elevates one's roots. The herring. The "Russian potato salad". The kebabs. All quite good. The Kompot .... and Mors (had to explain that to my kids but it went well). The place is non pretentious and serves quality Russian fare. It's good albeit a bit pricey for what you get. Nevertheless a good spot in a giant city of options.
google avatar

Yelp
Bomb food!! I'd eat here everyday if I could! The food is exquisite and the server was awesome!

Anna B.

Yelp
Have been coming to Traktir both in Hollywood and Tarzana for years. With time the prices got higher and the portions got smaller (significantly) especially for togo orders. Food has become a hit or miss. One thing that has remained the same is the staff, always friendly and helpful. Hope both locations make some changes soon.
google avatar

Trinny T.

Yelp
The food is quite delicious but the price was rather expensive. The staff were very nice and funny. I especially love the pelmeni.
google avatar

Anusha P.

Yelp
After trying some Georgian cuisine thought let's discover the neighbor Russia. This place is not for vegetarian / vegan . Potato Vareniki - steams potato filled dumpling with onions on top . This was very delicious as an appetizer but can easily fill you up with not much room for entree. Baked whole Branzino - The whole fish with skin, eye and bones comes cooked in white wine , capers and loads of tomatoes in a foil. Interestingly it was tasty being so simple in preparation. It was cooked well and infusion of capers and wine was good . Side of salad and some vinegar vegetables . Chicken Shashlik - Chicken thigh pieces were juicy, tender and flavorful. Came with red tangy spicy sauce complimented the meat very well . Fried Potatoes on the side with salad . I would love to see them have more choices for vegetarians other than dumpling & salad .

Yelp
One of my favorite places. Excellent food.( if u are familiar with that particular cousin). Amazing service. Live music fun place to go with group. Very fair prices. I highly recommends this fun place.

Yelp
Hard to find Russian Cuisine in Los Angeles Area, but Traktir is serving up those delicious Eastern European staples. Whether your in the mood for a hearty bowl of Borscht or looking for a few bites of Pelmeni you can't go wrong with any dish here. I personally recommend the Chicken Tabaka with mashed potatoes, that chicken was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside (it's a must). Definitely stop by if your in the area. P. S. Don't forget a cold glass of Russian Baltika!
google avatar

Danush K.

Yelp
Fantastic everything! Food A+++, atmosphere homey and cozy, service friendly and fun. I would change nothing.......except their willingness to share these amazing recipes lol Must try's: Potato vereniki: ask for mushroom cream sauce and the fried onions! Salo: unbelievable. Drinks: the berry juice, the compote and the kvass are all out of this world!
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
We got super lucky finding this place. The Russian cuisine was fantastic, particularly the pelmini. I grew up on Russian food, and this was the closest I've found to what I grew up on. Absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately they did not check vaccine cards.

Yelp
I went hear to get a culture experience and delicious food. Thats exactly what I got! I tried new things that the waiter helped me decide: caviar, lamb soup, the kvass rye fermented drink, and the horseradish/berry vodka shots that comes with pickles which I recommend if you are drinking that evening (the flavor makes the alcohol go down smoothly). The kharcho soup is unique and tastes delicious. The decorations and ambience and music were all cultural which added to my "traveling feel." The waiter encouraged a speech before the shot which was fun. I was able to make reservations which was nice :) and they were expecting me. It is a small place that can accommodate any size of a party which is cool, the table next to me was 15 people. I'll be back :)

Yelp
Authentically Russian. I took my girlfriend here who studied in Russia and even she was impressed. That's always a good sign.

Yelp
I dined at the restaurant on a whim on the night of September the 30th, and my oh my am I glad I did so. The waiter, his name escapes me, was so caring and hospitable I thought maybe he was a friend I hadn't seen in some time. As I was, and still am, unfamiliar with Russian Cuisine, the waiter recommended some lovely dishes which I probably would've never tried had he not suggested them. For an entree, I was going to choose the Grilled Salmon since Salmon is my favorite fish, but the waiter suggested I try the Grilled Sturgeon instead since I was trying the cuisine for the first time. Let me tell you, after that night, Sturgeon is now my favorite type of fish. It was cooked to the utmost perfection and was served with an absolutely delicious pomegranate sauce that paired perfectly with the Sturgeon. For desert, I had the Napoleon cake which looked amazing but when I had my first bite, I was at a loss of words, most cakes are too sweet to the point where it starts to become unappetizing, but this Napoleon Cake was just perfect. I could eat 10 servings of it and I would still ask for more.

Yelp
I've come here before (years ago) and used to like it but wasn't impressed during my last visit. They have a parking lot which is convenient and they are also located next door to a russian grocery store so you can buy some produce after. During my last visit I came with family. We are all Russian so I grew up eating russian food and am very accustomed to the cuisine. I ordered chicken shashlik (kebob) that came with potatoes and a salad. Nearly all of the food tasted very bland. The potatoes and shashlik had barely any seasoning on it and the salad was pretty plain too. For such high prices I expected a better meal. The service was definitely why I didn't rate it lower as the two servers were always attentive, however I do hope the food is improved or the prices adjusted.

Yelp
I am so surprised that I haven't done a review for this AMAZING Russian/Ukrainian restaurant yet! Wow. Don't even know where to begin. Staff is like my family, I've been living in Los Angeles for 7 years and been coming here since then. There are only few Russian restaurants that I've tried, but this is by far my favorite restaurant of all times! And when I mean the best, I am not comparing it with other Russian or Ukrainian restaurants, I am actually comparing it to all of them in my entire life. When I walk into this place, I feel like I'm no longer in Los Angeles but somewhere in a small Ukrainian town getting home cooked meal. There is always playing Russian/Ukrainian music and music videos. Those videos range years from 2000s - now so it feels super nostalgic. It's decorated with traditional Ukrainian details. They have two different menus, one in Russian language and another in English which is super helpful when you go with your non Russian speaking friends or co workers. I personally always like to take the Russian menu because it feels more authentic. Like I said earlier, the staff is like my family. They have 3 servers that have been working there for years and they recognize you when you walk in and remember your favorites from the menus. It's very good customer service in my opinion. Always ask how I am and listen to my stories because they know I don't have family here so they treat me like family. Food is so good and comforting! My favorite dishes that I always get are Borsht start with sour cream and a piece of very tender and juicy beef, it comes with garlic cheese toast that goes very well together. Then as my second corse I get two things pelmeni and potatoe vareniki with grilled onion ugh. I'm drooling writing this review. Then I order chicken katleti with mashed potatoes. Sounds like a lot of food but it taste so good as left overs so I always take extra plate to go for later. They a have yummy mors which is like berry juice, sweet, sour and little bitter at the same time, feels like summer in your mouth. Ukrainian and Russian beer is my go to and they bring out a frozen big beer mug, also refreshing. If you are looking for a very good traditional Russian and Ukrainian food this is the place to go.

Yelp
Clearly a staple in the West Hollywood Russian community. This place is consistently packed. Doesn't matter which day of the week you're here. Tuesday at 3:00. Busy. Thankfully they take reservations so be sure to call ahead of time! You can sense the authenticity from the moment you step through the doorway and are confronted with Russian and Ukranian speaking patrons. The waiters and waitresses all have Russian and Eastern European accents which adds to the flavor of the ambiance. Be prepared for a very hearty meal. If you're afraid of carbs, I'm afraid this is not the place for you. The must try dishes are: Pickled herring with potatoes + onions. Dear lord, I could eat two of those plates just by myself. The borscht soup is to die for. I love soups and love this one like a teenager who has fallen in love for the first time. Potato vareniki. My boyfriend isn't even crazy about potatoes but he LOVED these. I also have to give a special thanks and shout out to the waiter who refused to let us leave without trying not one, not two, but three of their homemade vodkas. Here's a trip TRY THE HORSERADISH VODKA. I don't like vodka, but could have easily downed three more of those. Nostrovia!

Yelp
Generous portions, great authentic Ukrainian, loved all the dishes we got! Get the borscht! Don't forget to stop by their market

Yelp
Brought a group of 6 for dinner and lots of drinks. The most authentic Russian food you'll have. Amazing service by Dima and the team as always. I'm hoping this place will be around for many more years. My go to place any time I travel to LA

Yelp
Traktir is so much fun. I don't come often, as it's pretty pricey, but it is great for a special occasion. I'm sure like me, most of you haven't had of Russian food but it honestly deserves to be among the likes of Italian, Greek and French. Many of the items are quite unique, but they are all well-made and delicious. And it wouldn't be a true Russian experience without some vodka. Be brave and try some of the more suspicious flavors - you may find them to be your favorite. Like good Slavs, though, you may face some ridicule from the staff if you take just one.

Yelp
I loved everything about Traktir! It was my second time eating Ukrainian food and my boyfriend's first time, and we were head over heels in love with the food and the staff. Their service was amazing! The friendliest people ever with amazing food recommendations. Now, the food... legit have nothing to say but extraordinary. We got the borscht, the potato dumplings, and stuffed cabbage (which was more than enough for me and my 200lb boyfriend HAHA). So delicious and will be coming back soon for sure!
