Specialty Coffee, But Make It Fun | Eater

"Started by two founders in their mid-20s, this brand uses a cheery globe mascot and leans into globally influenced flavoring—offering syrups inspired by treats like baklava and gulab jamun—to argue that dessert-style, flavored coffees deserve a place within the specialty-coffee world rather than being dismissed as mere teenage or chain-cafe fare." - Bettina Makalintal

My four year old son and I met my cousin here for a coffee date on a Tuesday at 10 a.m. There were only 2 red velvet cookies for sale and my son loved them, the other two were chocolate and he didn't like them, I took them home and the other kids didn't like them either. My son was def being a high energy boy that day and I felt relaxed and welcome even tho he was rearranging furniture and jumping around. There were other kids running around/crying, etc....so it's a good place to go with littles. My cousin mentioned that the gal who waited on her didn't smile or seem very friendly ....the gal who waited on me was very friendly tho and smiled and chatted....we bought our coffees separately, from different staff. My coffee ( almond joy) was really good and I thought the price was also really good. All in all it was a fine experience, didn't blow us away but wasn't bad at all either. I'll prob try them again ( it's half way between my cousin's house and mine) and see what we think about our second visit. Parking was easy, it's free street parking, in a cute, clean, old downtown looking part of town.

Stopped in here on a work from home day and was not disappointed. Coffee was great, and the service was very friendly. Prices were comparable to other shops, and my understanding is that the beans are fair trade as well as roasted in house. It was a nice place to spend some time working on the computer. The large front windows let in wonderful natural light, even on a drizzly, grey day. I didn't realize you could enter from the rear, where there was plenty of public parking behind the building, so it is actually quite easy to get in and out of. My only complaint was that there were not many access points for computer charging. I had to choose between laying my extension cord across the aisle as a trip hazard or sitting right next to a vent blowing cold air on a cool day.

Google
I visited this shop and was disappointed by the weak coffee that did not meet expectations, especially at the price point. Additionally, after learning more about the business’s public affiliations and values — which they openly advertise — I felt the atmosphere was less welcoming than I would expect from a local coffee shop. For me, both product quality and the environment a business creates, including the organizations it publicly supports, are part of the overall customer experience. I personally prefer to support businesses that focus on inclusivity and creating a genuinely welcoming space for all. Overall, my experience — from the coffee to the broader impression left by the business’s stated values — left me disappointed.

Everyone here is always so nice, and the menu is great! Prices are around Starbucks prices, but their drinks here are so much better. They also have amazing bagels! My brother is a huge coffee person who makes his own espresso coffees at home, and this is his favorite place to go, so you know it's good 😸

Google
I really enjoy this coffee shop. My only issue is that on more than one occasion I’ve ordered and the person that took my order has to prepare it as well. Other staff and I’m sure one is the manager stand around talking instead of working. I actually told the girl the one day, I guess you have to do it all. She smiled!

Google
I’ve been to this coffee shop a few times now and I’ve come to love it. The staff is always very friendly, the coffee is delicious, and the baked goods are to die for. This is one of my favorite places to get an afternoon cup of coffee and cookie!

MoveMe2 Columbus

Google
Cutest coffee shop, but front entrance isn’t wheelchair or stroller friendly and the back doesn’t indicate it’s the coffee shop to enter just has hours. The latte lacked flavor (caramel, butterscotch and vanilla just tasted like milk. 🫠

Google
Decided to drive 30 min just to come here. Location and workers are nice. I decided to get a small frozen Carmel. Coffee was good but if you’re someone who doesn’t like the coffee taste and wanted a caramel flavor not so much. Prices were around the average- a little high depending what you get. Service was fast and inside seems like a nice quiet place to relax if you have time. I’ll come back it in town but not something I would drive 30 min for again.

Yelp
I have been a weekly customer of Transcend's for 5 years. I just tried their competitor across the street (Pick em up Joe) and I will remain a loyal customer of Transcend. Transcend has lots of different delicious flavors for their drinks and frozen coffee beverages (Pick em up Joe does not have either). They have a WAY better atmosphere with more seating and their staff is super friendly. Their food is made fresh, not taken out of a warmer. Their prices are fair. They have even gotten better in wait times for food and drinks so cheers to them. They also have a loyalty card!

Yelp
This place is cute. Nice atmosphere will all types of different siting options. Service was friendly. Parking was easy but street parking so you never know! Wasn't super impressed with drink options but liked the variety of syrups. Coffee tasted burnt. Saw another review about the flavor. Hate to say they were right. Nice clean bathrooms. This place is nice & bright with so much natural light. Overall, good but not great. I'd come back and give them another try though!

Yelp
I enjoyed my bagel sandwich and iced coffee! Lovely service and very comfortable seating with good wifi! I feel the ambiance was a little bare walls and minimal but that is a style choice a lot of people love! Maybe some local artist works for sale or something to spruce up the walls would be a great touch for the small town Main Street shop.

Yelp
Finally tried out Transcend after having walked by it so many times. The ambiance is so cute! The employees were kind and walked me through the menu when I had questions. Ordered an iced matcha latte and I must say I am not a fan. It was $5.50 for a medium with almond milk. It didn't taste like matcha at all and I was sipping on chunk of the matcha powder. I'll still come back to give their coffee a try though and will update my review later.

Yelp
This is my second time coming to this coffee shop and I love the vibes. I was immediately greeted by the window sign that says presidents are temporary Wu-Tang is forever. I knew I was in the right place lol I can't remember the type of muffin I ordered but it reminded me of a coffee cake with walnuts. They warmed it up and it was the perfect balance of sweet/salty. The ice latte could use an extra shot in my opinion because the ice watered it down fairly quickly. I will be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
This is a great little gem in the heart of Downtown Grove City. Perfect place to grab a coffee and treat, have a meeting, get work done or just watch the Grove City life pass the large windows. There is a variety of seating available. Tons to choose from as far as drinks go...andthe staff was super fun, knowledgable and interactive. Will definately be having more meetings here!

Yelp
The atmosphere is great but the coffee is so not good. I've tried many different coffee drinks and they are just not good. The milk and added flavors are good but the beans/espresso taste very bad.... I stopped going a half year ago but would love to go back if they change out the beans!

Ellen M.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and tasty. Coffee is savory, especially Carmal Machiado. Very different from Starbucks and other coffee houses. They grind their own beans right in the coffee shop. Ellen Morris 614-354-8502

Yelp
This place is a cute hidden gem but unfortunately the service is very slow. I I went on a weekday and there were 2 people ahead of me ordering, no biggie. After I ordered, I waited almost 20 minutes for my coffee. I think this is a good place to go if you're not in a rush and have time to wait but unfortunately this is the third time I've been here and all 3 times I have waited a very long amount of time for a coffee.

Yelp
How cute of a shop and in the heart of Grove City! Stopped in before a day out with the girls and the coffee did not dissapoint. Love how more coffee shops are planting their seeds and letting it grow locally. The alluring aroma of roast coffee reminded me of what I've been missing about Home and the turning of seasons which I don't get in Florida. Service was fast and the caffeine kicked right in. The matcha tea latte wasn't a strong tea flavor that I am used to but it still gave me some encouragement for the day ahead. Menu was easy to read and drjnks were customizeable. They offered various flavor sweetners and shop merch. No fuss or frills when it comes to coffee. Hope I'm able to visit the next time!

Yelp
I went here after yoga on the suggestion of a fellow yogi. It was three doors down from Rise Yogi. I walked into this very simple, clean space . It was quiet. There was no overly cheerful greeting just a knowledgeable man behind the coffee counter. He directed me to the tea choices and I excitedly chose Evening in Missoula blend. ( see ingredients in my pic of canister) He advised a four minute steep time. He said that he could set a four minute timer for me and I could relax there in the shop or I could take it with me and let it steep myself. I thought this was very nice the timer idea but I opted to be on my way. After my guesstimation I opened the tea to smell it.I just knew from its beautifully layered scent that it was going to be an awesome treat and it was. While I was still in my car driving around I called the shop back to see if I could buy this blend in bulk and was told that yes they did have an adequate supply.

Yelp
This place continues to be wonderful! Customer service is fantastic, the coffee is so fresh and one of the best! Bonus: their smoothies are really good too! We tried the strawberry banana (which has fresh fruit in it) and it was really good! We look forward to trying more!

Jess D.

Yelp
I am at Transcend at least once a week. I love it! The coffee is always very good. The staff is friendly, and there is plenty of room to sit and do work. Parking is easy if you use lot in the back. Saturday's can get pretty busy with a long wait time, but it's worth it for me!

Tom M.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great service! Transcend is a comfortable coffee shop for just enjoying your morning coffee with friends or meeting colleagues for business.

Janet M.

Yelp
I am simply amazed at the wonderful service at the tim Hortons on Broadway. The manager has surrounded herself with wonderful people. I am always greeted with a wonderful smile a nice greeting a wonderful cup of coffee. It starts with Chelsea being the manager. My day does not begin until I go to Tim Hortons get my coffee, saying my hellos.

Yelp
Tip: download the clover app and get a free medium beverage after 9 drinks. Excellent patio seating in old grove city. Lovely outdoor area. Especially on farmers market Saturdays.

Yelp
I spend way too much time at this place, but I guess that's not a bad thing! Love this little hidden gem. Coffee is always amazing, the pastries are okay, always love a bagel sandwich!

Yelp
Love having a coffee shop to come to directly in downtown GC when we're in town visiting my in-laws. I got a hot Almond Joy latte and it was great! Employees were masked and very friendly. Definitely will be back again next time we're in town!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Waited in line half an hour only to be told they couldn't make our drinks for another half hour because of a to-go order. Not sure why they would even take to-go orders if they can't help the customers waiting in line in the store.
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
I came here hoping they make a Cubano. I asked and they said yes they do. I ordered one. Typically a place like this would put a little heart design in cream on top but not here. That's ok, I can live without cream designs for a delicious Cubano. Unfortunately this was the most foul coffee drink I have ever encountered. I sat at a table outside hoping to enjoy. I took one drink and threw it in the garbage. They do not know how to make a Cubano. $5 wasted.

Yelp
After living in Grove City for years, I finally stopped by this place. It's got plenty of tables and space to do work or hang out at. I ordered a small, hot Caramel Drizzle. I loved it. It was the perfect amount of sweetness without tasting fake and sugary. They also have a secret menu that you can order from. There is a small food menu. All of the desserts in the case looked very tasty. I will be back to try something else. Always love to support a local business!

Yelp
Great little joint. Quiet and lovely. Nice and accommodating staff. Wi-Fi friendly. Patio. Small town street.

Yelp
Cute simple little coffee bar in downtown Grove City. The menu is small and offers the basic options with a few pastries to munch on. The seating area is inviting, with games to play and a book nook to sit and read.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to work from Transcend before our photo shoot. I'd heard about it and simply wanted to check it out. We walked in around 4:30 and there was one other person in there. Super chill atmosphere. We picked the comfy chairs with the outlet and set up. After we were ready to order we headed up to the register where the sweetest girl helped us out! I wasn't really in the mood for coffee so I went with a iced tea. They brew it up for you and then ice it! Yum! They even had the cutest little honey sticks. Bringing back childhood memories. My husband decided on a cold brew which he really liked! We loved that they roaster is in the main area and that they had so many coffee options. I would have loved an outside sign because we struggled to find the place. But other than that we really enjoyed it here.

Yelp
Great place to sit and chat or work. The staff is GREAT. No snarky hipster barista sarcasm or pretension. Local and a great newer fixture for downtown GC. I only wish they had evening hours.

Yelp
This is a nice little coffee shop in Grove City. The menu offers a variety of coffee options in addition to breakfast. They also order bulk purchase of their coffee beans at a reasonable price. I would like to see them add Oat milk to their menu as another no dairy alternative. Coming from California where you would not find a coffee shop NOT carrying oat milk I was disappointed to only have the option of Soy or Almond milk.

Jamie N.

Yelp
Discovered this place a couple of weeks ago. I love mom and pop coffee places. I used to work at Starbucks, and whereas I love that place, you can't get near it now. So I went to Transcend and the staff is always very friendly, but since there is only one espresso bar, it can be pretty slow service. The register is always quick obviously, but if you are in a hurry, dont be. The drinks are great, but last saturday (granted it was farmer's market saturday) I waited 20 + minutes after I placed my order for my drink. It was delicious, but ... During the week, its a great stop too. I always get a cake mix cookie (50 cents) and they are fantastic. The guy at the register told me all the baked things are from a bakery somewhere (nearish) and they are all good (I have only tried the small cake cookies) but everything looks good. I will keep going to this place, and I recommend it, but be prepared to wait. The kids (ok YOUNG ADULTS, sorry) behind the counter are always friendly and answers questions and make suggestions.

Yelp
Transcend Coffee + Roastery is a must every time I'm in Grove City. It's a cute shop right on the main street in the historical district. There is a large variety of options available including standard coffee beverages, unique and delicious flavored options, smoothies, tea, and even Jello Steamers! I was curious about this item on this trip and I was not disappointed it threw me back into my childhood when my mother made these for me when I was feeling unwell which is the same for the owners when I asked the employee about it. Apparently not many people order this unique beverage, so the employee had me take samples of it until he got it just right for my taste. The staff is so friendly and open to suggestions as well. Definitely plan on trying more.

Yelp
What a fun spot all through the spring, summer and early fall! I'm not sure how they do it, but they have the most polite and friendly staff anywhere! And the ice cream, milkshakes and other treats are absolutely delicious. And reasonably priced!
google avatar

Yelp
Bang for your buck: 8/10 Quality: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance/Location: 10/10 Overall: 9/10 I'm glad there's an independent coffee shop in Grove City! Much needed! It doesn't get much cuter inside! This little spot is perfect for a date morning or to grab coffee with a friend. They have a huge offering of coffee and coffee drinks, and are so sweet and willing to accommodate any dietary needs and personal preferences if they can. Every time I go, I simply explain what I like and don't like, and they always have great suggestions! They have a decent variety of baked goods and bagel sandwiches. They're good, but don't worry about the FOMO if you pass on any of them! The coffee is really where it's at!

Yelp
I went to this coffee shop on a saturday morning! they were busy and that's okay! no worries! i sat down and waited for my drink while i studied and and i finished my study 50 minutes later and still didn't get my drink and i went up to get it and he said he couldn't find that drink anywhere in the system lol well i paid for it. so he made me my drink. i asked for it iced and he gave it to me hot. i will definitely be coming back to this coffee shop. Everyone else got their drinks before me and i waited an hour while i watch everyone else get their drinks and food- but he gave me a iced drink and apologized! Honest mistake.

Yelp
3.5 stars, but you get it - I can't do half stars on Yelp. Grove City is definitely lacking in the coffee shop department. We have like 4 SBUX now and Transcend just opened on 62. I'm a little over Sbux and the same stuff I always get so my husband and I ventured to Transcend on a Saturday morning to check it out. Minimal street (parallel) parking spots out front but plenty of free lot spots in the back. No one greeted us immediately (I worked in numerous coffee shops in college over the years and each one taught me you say "hello" when a customer walks in the door) but whatever, that led me browse the menu boards. They have lots of espresso, tea, smoothie and make your own options. I was super impressed that the make your own option had a protein option where you can add a scoop of protein to your drink. I asked the woman at the counter for suggestions and she suggested a chai or a honey lavender latte. I'm not big on chai and that latte was a little too out of my comfort zone. I opted for a Brutus (a PB & chocolate latte) and my husband ordered a Milky Way. Our drinks were ready shortly afterwards and we both agreed they were bitter and not sweet like we expected. Turns out all of the syrup/chocolate was at the bottom and the barista should've stirred them up before giving them to us. For $3.75-$4.50/each for a specialty drink, the prices were what I'd come to expect for that type of drink. The place was packed at 10:45 in the morning. I might go back and try just their plain coffee again another day just to see what that's like or their baked goods. It's a little hipster-ish for Grove City but I'm glad to see something new in the area.

Weston B.

Yelp
Solid coffee experience. Had a good selection of coffees and teas, and everything we have had was good. We also had their egg and cheese bagel sandwiches, which were quite tasty. The two men working there were friendly and efficient, especially as the place can get busy. If you have time, I recommend taking your drinks and food to the nice park right behind their building. It can be a nice break.

Victoria J.

Yelp
The place was cute and the employees were very nice, but my breakfast sandwich had no seasoning and my pumpkin chai tasted like a liquified candle.

Charley I.

Yelp
Great service overall - Delcious coffee - scrumptious egg sandwiches - awesome atmosphere - friendly staff
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
I really love the ambiance and service. I stated that I was new and hadn't been there before so they asked my usual order and gave recommendations. I ended up going with a hot coffee I saw on their specials menu - chocolate cherry. AMAZING. They have every syrup imaginable which is also a win because I love coffee and peppermint. I also ordered one of their bagel breakfast sandwiches. That was good as well as it was made to order. It was a Saturday so it was busy but not too crowded. I also loved that once a table opened the staff was cleaning it/sanitizing it immediately. It's a cozy coffee shop and the coffee is great.

Yelp
this shop is in an amazing location. the coffee is pretty good, but i can't get over how soulless the interior is.

Brittany T.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Getting a simple latte took ~30 minutes, but the worse part was the man behind the counter. He was yelling orders so harshly and was SO rude to customers and the other employees. It was hard to watch. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Daralyn B.

Yelp
Finally a non-chain coffee shop in Grove City! I've been to Transcend a few times now and have had good experiences each time. The inside is pretty large with plenty of seating - ideal for hanging out for a while to work or study. I've only tried the regular and iced coffee so I can't speak to what their specialty drinks are like. They have a small food menu with offerings such as pastries and basic breakfast sandwiches (like most coffee shops). I definitely recommend giving Transcend a try. While I love Starbucks just as much as the next person, I think it's important to support small, local business!
google avatar

Alina A.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee spot! The interior is big, with plenty of seating for studying or catching up with friends! The menu had plenty of options and the barista even explained that I could "make" my own drink by choosing flavors. I went with the vanilla latte, which was perfect - not too sweet or bitter. I believe they also had some food options!

Michael A.

Yelp
Bummer today, their guest internet not showing and they dont know password for their regular internet and I ask if they could call owner to get it and no one wants to help. Love this place but kinds bummed no effort to help
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
Super cute little coffee shop. We visited here a couple weeks ago. A little disappointed by the plain iced coffee and the pumpkin spiced coffee. The pumpkin spiced drink didn't come out iced like we had asked for, it was frozen. Unfortunately it tasted like liquid air freshener. Both drinks we ordered were so off putting that we couldn't even drink either of them. Hopefully we can return and have a better experience.
google avatar

Caleigh H.

Yelp
The people working at Transcend are so kind and accommodating! They're soft spoken with a lot of personality! Coffee was good but they got my bagel order 100% wrong. Still tasty but definitely not what I ordered. I was ok with it though once biting into it!
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
EDIT and UPDATE I gave the place another try and I am glad I did. While it will never be my go to coffee place things are tasting much better. It where I go if I need that extra caffeine push to get me through the day
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee with plenty of seating. Street parking and a lot in the back. Staff is friendly and they work to keep the line down.

Yelp
No joke people, if you get to Grove City, you absolutely HAVE TO go to TRANCEND!! THEE BEST coffee I've had!! Well done!!

Yelp
Amazing coffee. Neat coffee shop in a nice community area. Great way to start the morning with a quality cup of Joe.

Yelp
Great coffee! Consistent and solid every time... I'm from Cincinnati and travel to Columbus once a week. I'm always looking for a way to navigate myself through this area to get a cup of coffee from Transcend to start my day!

Yelp
A +++++++++++ Well, you finally found the right place with the perfect coffee at reasonable prices to stop in to and relax and/or to discuss a business deal! Plenty of seating so bring your laptop, friends, business partners, etc. You cannot beat the friendly and efficient staff, they're great! I am also super-picky when it comes to coffee, and a place to pick up a nice breakfast sandwich, and I can highly recommend this establishment to anyone who want's a quaint serene off-the-street place to take 5. Who needs a commercial train-wreck like Star Bucks when you can enjoy way better coffee here and relax in historic downtown Grove City, Ohio.
