The Best Water Ice In Philly

"Tranzilli’s in Germantown is perfect (and not just because of their logo that looks like it was made with 1995 Word Art). They do their water ice both by the cup and in gallon “party buckets,” just in case you need enough to feed a small army of children. They usually carry around 30 flavors at a time, and some of our favorites include creamsicle, espresso, and mint chocolate chip." - candis mclean

Top Philly Summer Treats to Beat Heat Waves | Eater Philly

"This renowned family-owned water ice retailer has been serving the community since the 1960s, offering one of Philly’s little-known dynamic duos: water ice (with over twenty flavors including mango, black cherry, cotton candy, and strawberry lemonade, just to name a few) and cheese pretzels. Planning a gathering or looking to join in the fun with your family? Order one of its party buckets—a gallon bucket of your chosen flavor that can serve up to 17 people." - George Banks-Weston

Where to Find the Best Water Ice in Philly | Eater Philly

"Open since 1969, this Germantown spot is the local destination for fresh water ice with flavors like black cherry, tangerine, and kiwi strawberry. Tranzilli’s has an extensive wholesale operation, too, so if you’re looking to take a lot of water ice home, this is the place." - Dayna Evans

Recently discovered and been going like every couple days. Love all the flavors, the guy with the dreads and light skin helped are so helpful, fast and knowledgeable. I tip every time, will be back again soon. Loved the pineapple custard.

Google
Awesome water ice and pretzels... The water ice is never too sweet, it's just right and the young folks working there are always friendly... neighborhood staple for years!!

Google
The water ice was just ok but let’s talk about this cheese pretzel… what is going on?! Smh never again.

Google
Best water ice around. Line with 20 people in front of me. 100% worth the wait. Good prices too! (Excuse the pic, I already indulged)

Google
The water ice was very excellent, and the mango water ice was very good. I went with a big group, and I'd say most of us really enjoyed it and would come back if we could. Thanks guys!

Google
This place has been here for years and the price keeps getting higher but the fans still come. It's a staple and historical water ice place in Germantown. The atmosphere is great. Lots of parking and the water Ice is delicious and made to perfection and to order.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. I pulled up 2 mins before they opened and there was already a line. I've been back twice since this first visit and I can confirm-- there's always a line. The mango flavor is more sweet than it is tangy. But the strawberry lemonade was perfect! I now have an addiction to pretzels and water ice, Philly has transformed me.

Yelp
When in Philly this is my go to spot from the airport and going to the airport, also several times while there. This is the number one spot for water ice! Yes, it's a drive to get there, but ohhhh so worth it. Glad I get to go back this summer.

Yelp
I'm not sure why they don't have any fresh reviews because they are always busy with customers that are left so satisfied from great water ice & the best cheese pretzels in the city. I've been coming to Tranzili's since I was a kid and now I bring my kids. They employ local youth which is always a plus but they definitely should give these teens a crash course in customer service, a friendly voice and a smile goes a long way. The selection: they have hard and soft serve ice cream, water ice, and plain/cheese/pizza pretzels (Pro tip order pretzels first since they're toasted when you order) Everything is good! It's better than your favorite water ice place and it's not up for debate. I hope Tranzili's is around for another 30 years so I can take my grandchildren and hopefully they've expanded by then! They also take cards now which is a major upgrade!

Yelp
Good classic Philly water ice. If in the area this is a must try. Also do your self a favor and get the pizza or cheese pretzel. They won't disappoint.

Yelp
Great Italian ice. Philadelphia is known for the best ice in PA. I'm happy they're still open for business and survived the pandemic hit. Will always come here when we're in town.

Yelp
An uptown staple! Been around for years. I absolutely love their pretzels . This location can easily go unnoticed if you're not familiar with the neighborhood.

Yelp
As far as water ice goes, this place blows Rita's and John's out of the water. It's way out of the way in Philly in the middle of a ghetto neighborhood, but it's perfect way to cool off in the summer.

Yelp
Tranzilli's is a northwest Philly classic water ice establishment. It is located in East Germantown on a street you prob won't be riding down unless you want to taste this delicious concoction. Fortunately there is ample street parking. This is one of the best water ices in Philly. It has a great texture and comes in a variety of flavors. They also sell Philly cheese pretzels here so this is a true Philadelphia destination. So if you think all Philly water ices are the same, they are not. Try Tranzilli's for one!

Yelp
Tranzilli's is a local hidden gem that really does need more pub. I've been going there since I was young, visiting my grandparents. The price is reasonable and the servings are generous. Just as another commenter noted, the employees could definitely use some customer service training, but then again, so could some of the customers. If you want some great water ice that's made fresh on site, this is definitely the place to go in the Germantown area!

Yelp
We had never heard about this place, but it had good reviews, so we decided to check it out. It was a bit strangely located in an industrial block, and I wouldn't say the surroundings were all too pleasant. They had a range of flavors and their prices were pretty standard, I suppose. No cheaper than other places, but not overpriced either. We liked the texture of the ice, but our major dislike was the extremely sweet and artificial flavors. Lots of water ice is artificially flavored, but this stuff seemed to go beyond any I had tried before. Maybe that's a plus for some people, but be forewarned if it isn't.

Yelp
If you're from northwest, then you should've stopped at Tranzili's at some point in time. Certainly better-than-Ritas water ice and their delicious toasted pretzels. Now, I've gone here since a kiddo and the water ice still tastes the same. They haven't changed their offerings and prices are pretty average. The downside is the location, it just looks awkwardly out of place and outdated. The workers are alright but can be a little more professional. I only stop here because of its locality, however now, I very much prefer Joseppi's because of the taste, appearance and service.

Yelp
Tranzilli's water ice is always on point. Never been disappointed. They are pretty reasonable in prices. All the flavors are good. Bad neighborhood hurry up and buy.

Yelp
I'd never had or heard of Italian water ice but my native Philly friend insisted we stop for some before I headed back home. OMG you need this in your life! I had a cherry/mango water ice and a cheese and mustard pretzel both were amazing and devoured in an instant. Go there!

Mary W.

Yelp
The only water ice I crave...love the combo of their warm mustard pretzel and a mixed mango -pineapple water ice. Yum

Yelp
I notice that Tranzilli's hasn't had any reviews for a while. I want all of you to know that they are still in the business of serving up some of the best water ice and cheese pretzels that Philly has to offer. Their water ices are made on the premises and they now have a separate facility for their wholesale business (buying buckets for private sale, etc). Their cheese pretzels are superb! Unlike Rita's, there is no cheese-wiz involved. It is all American (plus spicy mustard for me) and it's tasty with any flavor ice. Order it first, because they are toasted to order. They even have pizza pretzels now and I haven't tried it yet, but my cousin did and it looked really good, so that's up next on my Tranzilli's agenda! Cash only.

Yelp
Yum! Pretty inexpensive (not that water ice breaks the bank), and they'll mix flavors in anything bigger than the small. This place saved me this summer. They make everything themselves on site, so it's all really fresh. A ton of fun flavors that tends to be different everytime I've gone there. Yes they sell pretzels, and if you want yours warm, order it before you order your ice or they yell at you a little. Walk up window only, no chairs or tables outside that I've ever seen.

Yelp
Best water ice...I wish they had as many Tranzilli's as there are Rita's (disgusting).

Yelp
A neighborhood tradition! No signs of falling off, and I have been getting water ice and pretzels here since young.

Yelp
Love it here! The wait in the line is totally worth it!! LOVE LOVE their pretzels!! Tranzilli's has been apart of my life since I was a kid! Always been good!!!

Yelp
The start of spring means water ice season in Philly. Was in the area so I decided to stop by and get a treat. I noticed immediately that their cup sizes are smaller. The large size looked like it should be a medium. The small size is a joke, two spoonfuls of ice and you're done. I asked if they shrunk their cup sizes and the male worker claimed he didn't know lol. My pretzel was really tiny too, to the point where I was gonna complain. $3.75 for a large ice, 75 cents for a pretzel. I'll be back occasionally but not as often as I used to. For these prices and sizes, its really no different from Rita's now.

Yelp
Pretty good but im still in love with Rita's swedish fish

S M.

Yelp
I loooove them!!!!!! Better than Rita's!!!! I just want them to come up with crazier flavors :)

Jessica S.

Yelp
This place is pretty good! We went here after eating cheesesteaks at Delasandro's. The soft pretzels are original Philly's, and rock!!
