The Best Breweries in Vancouver, Washington and Its Surrounding Towns | Eater Portland

"During the pandemic, Trap Door’s popular outdoor space at the uptown location turned into a year-round spot to sip Hazy IPAs like the juicy Glowed Up, popping with Citra, Simcoe, and Amarillo hops; the aptly named Tang is dry-hopped with a mountain of Mosaic hops and a bit of El Dorado. Nearby food carts, E-San Thai and Taco City, offer Thai food and tacos, respectively, to accompany these hoppy beers. Trap Door opened a second location in downtown Washougal serving their popular hazies as well as pizza, salads, and sandwiches." - Rachel Pinsky

Where to Dine Outside in Vancouver | Eater Portland

"Trap Door Brewing’s uptown village taproom recently opened a year-round enclosed, heated beer porch. For now, the walls remain partially open to allow air flow. Locals flock to this cozy space to sip Trap Door favorites like Trap Door IPA, a classic NW IPA, and Glowed Up, a hazy, citrus-y New England IPA. Several nearby food carts — like Taco City, E-San Thai, and newly opened Lettuce-Eat-Healthy — provide a good mix of food to nibble while sipping a cold pint of beer." - Rachel Pinsky

They didn't have many drink options tonight, maybe like 7 or 8 on tap. The place is pretty quiet and it just wasn't the kind of atmosphere I like to drink and hang out in. The encounter with the bartender was just awkward when we asked for a flight, we didn't know we had to tell her verbally which ones we wanted her to pour. Used to writing them down ourselves so when she kinda just stared at us it was awkward lol. Will we come back? Probably not. They don't have food, but there are a couple food carts outside. They allow you to bring in the food.

We love trap door brewing! They have a great selection of drinks, bathrooms are always clean, they are family friendly and the customer service has always been great even when there busy. They don’t serve food but have many places near by to order food from. They also have brought out markers and paper for our daughter to color while we’re there😊

Nice atmosphere about the place. The staff was friendly and kind to all. Busy but they never lost focus on their tasks at hand and there was no shortness of tempers in any capacity. The quality of the food is a far cry from " just bar food" . Lots of options to wet your whistle. Would definitely try this place again. They also have an enclosed outdoor are with a fire pit that has a wonderful cozy feeling to it. One thing that didn't appeal to me is the volume level of the piped music, I don't like having to talk to someone 2 feet away at the top of my voice.

They do great beer if not some of the best in the Pacific Northwest. They do great IPAs and even have a great BA stout which is not usually a thing in Oregon/WA. Their website doesn't list current on tap sadly which is way behind the times.

First time here, great beer and a great atmosphere! I will be back!

I could not believe the way they treated customers. They are the most brash, unprofessional, rude staff I have seen in the service industry in a long time. As someone who works in a brewery, I couldn’t imagine treating customers the way I saw them being treated here. The absolute only reason they get a second star is because their beer was actually pretty good. Outside of that, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

This is a pretty decent brewery! Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a fun place to try out some beers! I highly recommend getting some tasters and then getting some food at one of the food trucks near by! Pretty great!

Tight parking at this place. As a customer, I was kicked out from parking spot by owner. The owner parked on that same spot after I moved my car. Just saying!

Yelp
My husband had The Grinder, and I had the Calzone! They were both very delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Most simple review. I have loved Trap Door for a long time. Visiting was on a small bucket list. Now I have visited it and absolutely love it. Great beer. Great environment/brewery. Will visit again!!

Yelp
We were invited to a birthday party here and--disclaimer--I'm not a big beer person. However, I do like stouts and porters. The bummer about Pacific Northwest craft breweries (don't hate) is that they often don't have stouts and porters available during the summer, which forces me into cider territory. Such was the case at Trap Door. No dark beers and two cider options--a basic apple and a sweet cherry. I would have liked a tart cherry, but not being a sweet drink girl, I opted for the apple. It was meh. I will say that my husband got the most popular IPA and would give it "a solid IPA" review. So there's that, in case any beer drinkers are still reading. There's no food here, but there are good food truck options--I noticed a taco truck and a Thai truck. Big outdoor space for large parties. Very casual. Just a thought to the owners to have more options for non-beer drinkers visiting with the beer drinkers. Cheers!

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch and got food at 1 of the 3 food trucks outside: Thai, Mexican, and a Health Food truck with sandwiches and smoothies. We grabbed a beer and brought our food in once it was ready! Good ambience and friendly staff. The Thai food and beer were great! Had to buy their Seinfeld beer - delicious!

Yelp
Was here for the Oregon brewery run series 5k. Super fun event. Had a few friends meet me there after the run, got some beers and burritos from the food truck out back. Beers were excellent, burritos were great. Relaxed atmosphere, super nice staff. Will definitely be back!

Yelp

Yelp
Went in for a cold one on a cold night. Beer is always tasty here. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Service here was great. Staff is really knowledgeable about the beers available. I'm not a huge beer gal, but the beers here are not super great. They also don't serve food so don't come hungry seating area is a little limited.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Service was great, beer was good. Was able to have a good conversation with the bartender. Ambience was fun and unique.

Yelp
Great local brewery in Uptown-Vancouver. Rotating taps based on whats been brewed. Couple of food trucks outside but generally its my favorite place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon pint while chatting on a Sunny day. Nice little street side seating to enjoy the atmosphere of Uptown.

Phil T.

Yelp
Great beers, friendly knowledgeable staff, great food right next door in the form of Mexican, Thai etc gut trucks. Downtown Vancouver was a really nice neighborhood with multiple other pubs, breweries, places to eat etc. My wife and I really enjoyed it and we will be back soon. The selection of local house beers was really a great find.

Yelp
As taprooms go, this one is my favorite. IPAs are huge in these parts and they always seem to have a few to choose from. They also have various seasonal brews, some lighter and darker choices and one or two ciders. I always see a lot of families and dogs here. All in all, a nice relaxed environment. They have a sizable covered outdoor area. Some of the tables out there have cute little inset heaters. This is a busy little area and the people watching is fun, especially the diverse selection of folks frequenting Main Street Marijuana. There is a Thai cart and Mexican cart right there. There are plans for possibly two pizza places nearby. My one complaint is that their products seem a tad more expensive than other places. Or maybe I'm just missing happy hour.

Yelp
Vancouver's finest. Trap Door is easily one of my favorite breweries in California, Oregon, and Washington. I'll admit that it was their quirky pop like names that got me coming in. Initially, I thought, was this another hype? Does their beer really live up to their name? What the..... Super Treat? Juicy Brut? Flavor Town? Thank You? Yeah, the owner's son (brewer) did a great job in the marketing side of things, too. Anyways, I'm proud that Vancouver has this gem. It's a nice place to relax and they even have food trucks in the patio! I have yet to bring my dog but I'm sure he'll love it, too. Beer is excellent and the can is a great collectable. The only downside is that they are a bit pricier than your average. About $6ish a can. On the flip side, they brew in batches so whatever they have is what they have. Don't wait too long or you'll be left in the dust.

Yelp
Nice brewery/pub with a good-sized patio area, with both shaded & sunny seating outside. They are located next to a couple of food carts, as well, so there is usually some food options close at hand. We visited in the mid-afternoon on a Saturday & they weren't really busy, so it was a pretty relaxing visit enjoying their beer & hanging out on the patio. They had quite a few beers to choose from, though if memory serves me correctly about half were IPA or IPA-like and we aren't fans of those, but the other beers we tried on the menu were pretty good. Plus, my fellow Star Wars geeks gotta love the Admiral Ackbar tee. And they have the Best. Tip Jar. Ever. (excellent nod to one of my favorite movies!)

Jeannie D.

Yelp
Sweet spot, love doing Yoga & Beer here! Nice people, options for gluten free beer & ciders. Food trucks outside & food delivery, parking isn't awesome anywhere downtown, so prepare to walk a bit. It's an intimate space, with outside seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Among the good Vancouver stops, this place got the hops. I'm talking some really good brews on tap. Really good place to tap out. Nice big outside patio and really trendy and comfortable bar inside. Did I say they make all their own brews --- really enjoyed the mosaic IPA. That's why I say this brewery got the hops. They do not serve food but do not worry because there are two food carts, one Thai and one Mexican or you can walk down the street for pizza or something else and the bar is happy for you to bring it in.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Great selection of rotating beers! I have liked a lot of their sours and barrel aged beers! I like the outside seating and the nearby Thai cart option for food that they let you eat inside or outside on the patio.

Yelp
Stopped by for the first and likely only time for a quick drink while walking around main street. The restaurant isn't a bar and isn't really a restaurant. It feels like it doesn't have an identity nor knows what it should be. The table and seating arrangement is terrible with severe waste if space throughout. We ordered a couple drinks and prices seemed fair, however this is downtown Vancouver. There was a few selections I wanted to know more about and the bartender seemed either extremely put out answering a few questions or was just dumb. I'm assuming not dumb but one never knows. There is nothing unique about this establishment to get me to spend my money twice. Beer was decent but again not great and factoring in the negatives like it was half full.of kids at 9pm on a Friday night just isn't what I'm looking for from a "taproom."
google avatar

Yelp
First time here, beer is really good and the bartender is awesome. Will try food carts next visit.

Yelp
I started going to trap door when I first moved here in 2016 and they were a solid brewery then. But now it is 2020 and they have just evolved into one of the best breweries around. Great hazy ipas and amazing barrel-aged beers. Sweet downtown Vancouver location and great vibe inside. One thing is that I am not a huge fan of the food carts they have outside and would suggest getting pizza next door from Vancouver Pizza Company.

Yelp
Awesome causal spot in uptown ! Superbly dog friendly which is . I came and grabbed a pint with my pup ;) I also love how they support local food trucks here . There are a few parked in their lot so you can choose from a variety of food choices while enjoying a drink from inside or their outdoor patio area. I ordered the Viet Chop last time I was here (rice bowl style) from Stanwich. Soo tasty and specializing in gourmet eats! The owner of the food truck is also amazing with a true chef taste and appreciation for culinary. We'll be back fo sure !

Yelp
I have been here a few times. The beer is good. The staff is amazing. Great spot to watch the world go by.

Yelp
Let me see...I believe Trap Door was our third brewery while on our weekend tour. I got a Stout here which was pretty good and refreshing. The atmosphere was relaxed but was pretty busy. No surprise there. While there were other breweries that I enjoyed more while on this trip the beer is still solid and is worth going in for a round.

Yelp
I love Trap Door! I live about a block away so I'm usually there once a week (or more, depending on my type of week at work, ha) and I love it here! It's nice that it's simply a brewery. No fuss. They're real nice here and you can bring your food in from any restaurant, they just ask that you bus it yourself. Outside is great in the summer too. I can only speak for their cider but what they have on tap is always great. Their blackberry cider is the bomb. My boyfriend loves their holidaze ale and other IPA style stuff. The only downer to Trap Door is the fact that kids are allowed up until 8PM. I'm not exactly a fan of the type of parents that bring their kid into a brewery because 90% of the time, they're not the greatest kids and the parents don't really care. Can't fault Trap Door for inattentive parents tho.

Yelp
Wanted to get my Brewcouver Passport and my Pour of Discovery Passport for some epic beer rating this season.. This awesome little brewery had both available so I went to check it out. Instantly loved the ambiance, the friendly staff and Brewer (who sat down for a beer at the bar with everyone), and I enjoyed the tasty beers. As with any new brewery I check out I wanted to try a variety so I order the taster tray. I tried all five beers they currently have available (they have only been open five months) and they were all good. My favorite was the red! They have a garage door that will open to a patio in the warmer months and have several food options between pizza next door that delivers and food carts right outside. I imagine this place will be hopping in no time!
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Low key cool spot with a good variety of beers. Right by 3 food trucks who will bring you food while your drinking on the patio or inside. I had a pineapple cider that was very good and not too sweet! When we were there this drunk chick blew out her knee like it look like she lost her knee cap and the ambulance had to come and take her wasted self out of there, quite a crazy Cinco de Mayo.

Yelp
I love this little brewery! My husband and I visited several times over the summer because the beer was SO good and the employees were super friendly. I'm back in town currently with my sister and had to return. Super happy we did! This visit, we arrived a bit early and were greeted by our server (Michael) outside who let us in early. We were grateful as it's colddddd outside! He was so friendly! I explained that my husband and I are relocating to the area and that my sister and I are here currently trying to find us an apartment (in 2 days...). Upon closing out, Michael said he bought us a beer and welcomed us to the area. SO nice! I can't tell you how much I appreciate small gestures like that. Everyone in this area is so friendly and I LOVE them for it. As for the beer, their IPA game is STRONG. They offered a great variety of IPA styles in addition to other great brews. My sister had Uptown Brown and was basically drooling. I enjoyed Purple Rain, which was a real tasty sour. We also had a sip of the Dry Hop Pilsner. It was Pilsner up front followed by a quick hop bite that smoothed out quickly. This would be a great choice for someone who's wanting a lighter beer with an IPA-like bite. So good. Since we were the first ones there about 10 minutes before they opened, we were able to notice that there were quite a few locals that showed up just after they opened. This speaks volumes! It's such a warm, inviting atmosphere with killer beer. What more could you ask for? Oh, food? There's also real good food trucks outside. Can't lose here!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I liked this spot! Lots of good beers to choose from so I shared a sampler tray. I had a really good peach raspberry sour and a berry sour, these were my favorites. The Pilsner was also good. They had food truck outside as well. It was definitely a good stop.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here right around noon time just because we wanted to check out a brewery and this was the only place open. The IPAs were very good (Hazed Up, Trap Door, Co-Hop Fresh Hop and Lighten Up) but we were pretty much the only people there. I wish we'd had a chance to experience it with a bit more going on. Bartenders were great and gave us some background info on all the beers that was not on the menu.
google avatar

Kayla F.

Yelp
Super cool place, hard to find parking, beers are good, bartenders are nice, friendly and informative, food carts outside, I'll come here with my pup when it's warmer for sure!
google avatar

Brittney L.

Yelp
Beer is good lots of selection. Water is self serve which is nice. But you order pizza from a delivery company not affiliated with the brewery in order to get any food and have to wait for it which is weird. Bathrooms are clean. Lots of family friendly games to play like apples to apples, Trivia, sorry. But typical brewery if you want some food and service at your table this isn't your place. It was okay, nothing special
google avatar

Nathan A.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the beers here and they had some good variety in their IPA's The food carts were busy and the Thai food that I had was awesome.
google avatar

Mira V.

Yelp
I go here because I can have a beer, eat killer pad Thai, get a cheese quesadilla for my kid, play Battleship, jenga, Connect 4 and fill my growler. Seriously what more can a girl ask for. When you're traveling with a picky 6 year old that thinks a tortilla with cheese should be served at every meal and I don't want to eat tacos again I like coming to Trap Door. I can grab a pint of Co-Hop, pull out Battleship, watch my daughter play life size Jenga and pet puppies that come by Trap Door. It's like one part pet shop, toy store, food truck and brews all within arms reach. I have no problem bussing my own outside table because you hear that....silence, no whining and I can enjoy both my meal and brew without a struggle of wills.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Wonderful service! And the staff knew a lot about each of the beers, hand zested grapefruits for one of the IPAs. Great time and great atmosphere
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Great tasting beer located next to two food trucks and a dispensary across the street. Had the Juiced Up which tasted just fine after a 5 hour ride from Bend. Second time here. I will return when back in town.
google avatar

Holli E.

Yelp
Love the beer and that they have food carts outside. If you want to play board games while you're there they have a good variety to choose from too!
google avatar

Charles P.

Yelp
This is like a second home. Located on a not too busy street (compared to pdx!) Atmosphere is what makes this joint rock. Staff are awesome and the patrons range from young to old. The children especially! This is truly a community gathering spot where adults can sate their thirst while their kids play in the play area. The trucks outside are pretty delicious! Truly a synthesis of many entities that makes this place pulsate with energy. Bryan Schull and his crew are what makes the community run--fundraisers, running clubs meeting there, art gatherings and so on ..

Karen C.

Yelp
Just popped in as a part of our St. Patty's day pub crawl. Nice location with two good smelling food trucks out front. Not much in the line of anything other than beer (something I don't drink), but the hubby said their beer was good and the cider I tried was very tasty. A perfect spot to enjoy the weather and take in some of the great downtown Vancouver vibes.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed with this place at all. Service was slow and rude, beer expensive and served kinda warm. The one star is for the location and building appearance, however beware that you will leave disappointed.....I least my friends and I did.
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
On a personal scale, I would give this place one star, but I'm giving it four. Four because the atmosphere is chill, food carts, friendly bartenders, a live bluegrass band (which seemed impromptu and was great), and nice patio. For me, it's a one because eight IPA's. Eight!!! Out of 12 taps, eight are IPA's which I personally don't care for. There was a sour, a stout, an ale, and a cider, (and a Kolsch which they were out of) for the other options. A little more variety would be nice.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
Nice staff, good location, but truly awful beer. Their coffee stout, that seems to be the favorite of all, tastes like it came straight out of the coffee extract bottle you'd find at a homebrew supply store. (And it probably did.) Sorry guys.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
I had a berry cider that was yummy and went well with some Thai food I got from the food cart outside. Trap door doesn't do their own food, but there are Mexican and Thai food carts just outside, and the pizza place will deliver there. I did try a few tastes of the beers, a apricot sour and a coffee stout, but stayed with the cider.
google avatar

Drew F.

Yelp
Great service and beer. Not the largest selection but definitely good beer. I like the location and the fact they have food carts right outside of the doors. When I was there on a Friday you could see 3 food carts open and getting regular business. This will be a hot spot on the warmer days. Inside is quite cozy for a tap room. Excited to see their beer list grow.
google avatar

Renee S.

Yelp
Good beer! Great service and atmosphere! He even recommended other places for us to try since we are on a Vancouver brewery tour.

Trish H.

Yelp
Awesome beers, friendly staff and even though it's been super cold, thankful for outdoor seating options during covid.
google avatar

Jennie A.

Yelp
Great new brewery spot in downtown Vancouver. Owners are wonderful and staff is engaging and friendly. It's not a huge place but it still has plenty of seating, including a large communal table for a large group. Really love their selection of brews but I'm particularly fond of their stout. Two food truck provide food for the brewery from E-Thai and Taco City. Food is great from both but it's nice that I can have Pad Thai and hubby can get his Nacho fix. Great place for date night or a wind down after work.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Great brews - IPA and Coffee Stout! Atmosphere is relaxing. Seating is inside and outside with soothing setup to enable viewing in all directions. Worth a stop in Vancouver!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Great new brewery to add to Vancouver's roster. They offer a fresh hopped IPA and a wheat ale and a couple of guest taps. I'm not an IPA gal but it was tasty. My money's on the wheat ale; refreshing and not light. They don't sell food but one step outside the patio offers a couple of food cart options. Amazing!
google avatar

Cameron H.

Yelp
Nice location, space, and a friendly bar staff. The food trucks were closed when I arrived, so I didn't get a chance to try them. So mainly this review is about the beer. I had a flight and tried their 5 drafts available: Holidank Winter Ale, Kolsch, Walter Wheat, Trap Door IPA, and Tiger Trap Coffee Stout. The Holidank was a nicely balanced hoppy winter ale, which was very pleasant, but the rest of the beers were lacking. The Kolsch and Wheat were both pretty acidic and not really true to either style, the IPA was a little strong on the bittering hops on the back end, and the Coffee Stout was a little over the top on the coffee notes. All in all, 2 out of 5 for beer. The brewery just opened up a couple of months ago, so I hope they fine-tune their beer recipes as this place has potential, but as is, the beers are just so-so.
