The 18 Best Restaurants in Bologna, Italy | Eater

"Trattoria Bertozzi is a little off the beaten path (about a 30-minute walk from the heart of the city center or a 10-minute taxi ride), but the journey along tree-lined residential streets charms those who decide to make the trek to one of Bologna’s best traditional trattorias. Tables inside are few and fill up, so booking in advance is a must — though there is additional veranda seating for nice days. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but the trattoria does make one of Bologna’s best plates of gramigna, a type of hollow, corkscrew macaroni. The Bertozzi version is smothered in a bold, fragrant saffron and Parmesan cream with zucchini, at times with crispy guanciale. The restaurant has a decent bubbles fridge and an extensive wine cellar; the staff don’t offer up a list but instead pair according to your wishes." - Coral Sisk

"For a sit-down experience, Trattoria Bertozzi regularly tops Bologna’s long list of excellent traditional restaurants. It’s almost a mile from the centre, far enough away to maintain its authentic ethos, with local dishes such as gramigna with cured pork, courgettes, saffron and shaved parmesan." - Guardian/Lonely Planet

Traditional Italian food served with no BS. Staff are friendly in an organised chaos situation. They are tentative but also all over the place. Chatting with regulars and others with a get things done vibe. The food is good and the atmosphere is nice. Be sure to book in advance if you want to eat here as it seems to be always full. We were lucky enough to get a table without one but would definitely advise to make a reservation beforehand. Normal menu selection of food items and fair pricing. Overall would recommend. Staff good, food good, restaurant good 👍🏼

I really enjoyed my meal here. The staff is friendly and fun, and the food is excellent. It’s classic Bolognese cooking - high-quality local ingredients, simple, humble, and full of flavor. I had a great time bantering with the waiter, and the food arrived quickly without ever feeling rushed.

Absolutely delicious food and fantastic friendly service. We wanted to return but they are taking most of August as a well earned holiday which we totally understand. They even gave us recommendations for other restaurants. Well worth travelling from the centre of town to visit. The best food I have had since arriving in Italy. We would return when we are here again.

Had dinner here on a friend’s recommendation. Food was excellent. I enjoyed the primi dishes most. We also had a few of the daily specials e.g white truffle on egg which had a lovely delicate flavor. The restaurant also had a great selection of wines. Service was warm and friendly. The staff were young but were very knowledgeable about the dishes and wines. They added that very welcoming touch to dining at Bertozzi.

The food was okay, the service was a huge disappointment. After getting the first course, the waitresses went really every minute to the table to look if we finished eating (we ate at a normal pace). Once I finished my plate it was removed without any comment while my girlfriend still was eating. When she finished her plate they also removed it without asking or comment. After getting the second dish the procedure with showing up at a uncomfortable pace to clear the table one waitress stopped directly at our table, looked at us with a face of total boredom, disinterest and lack of any respect for distance and people eating at your establishment. This whole experience killed any kind of athmosphere and made an evening supposed to be relaxed uncomfortable and made us felt unwelcome and a necessity for the people working. I myself work at a fine dining restaurant and I get that sometimes you are looking if you can move forward in the menu at a table, but this was far from okay. There were only five occupied tables in the whole restaurant and we were obviously not blocking a table for others waiting (even this shouldn’t have been our concern). For this price you get at dozens places in Bologna comparable food. Do it, better get going!

The food was okay but not spectacular. But the service annoyed me the most. We didn‘t order any wine but the waitress comes and asks for wine and after saying no thank you, looks very sourly and goes. The waitresses comes every 5 seconds and takes the food away 1 second After finishing or when not even finished!!! And very cheap - no olive oil and no parmesan at the table. After asking for olive oil they brought but took away while not finished with the food. In total very Bad experience and would Never come back again. Just ruined my evening

Incredible place to go in Bologna. The service was very professional, as well as kind and funny. They presented the specials and answered all our questions in Spanish and English. Everything was amazing but the dish that really surprised us was the Tortini di patate which had a mortadella foam and crema di parmigiano on top. We loved their pasta dishes as well, but the tortini was outstanding. Also, their wine recommendation was spot on. At the end of our night, after we had already paid, they asked us to stay for a "digestivo" . Overall, best experience we had dinning in Italy.

Google
Somewhat far from our hotel but with great reviews so we ventured out. And it's not a bad walk so we didn't really even mind it. Started with the mortadella mouse/potato souffle, which were a few interesting bites. We didn't think either of the pastas were standouts: gramigna & tortellini in brodo. The latter was particularly disappointing because it's one of the main dishes to try in the area, but it's just a bit boring (but maybe this is just what this dish is). We got a side of spinach that we probably didn't need but it was nicely done. Ended with the lamb chop, which was well cooked and the potato it was served with was perfectly lightly seared.

Yelp
Yelp and Google pointed us to this location. Got here at opening and it was completely reserved except one table, which we were lucky enough to score. Can be noisy but not distractingly so. Have never had gramignone pasta, particularly double fresh prepared. Add into that the sausage ragú and you have an amazing winner. Wifey had the signature Tortellini in Brodo, which exceeded expectations. A 100% Super Tuscan rounded out the meal--Blueberry, earth, black currant with ripe tannins. Nice acidity that presents cranberry with bread products. Lorenzo was outstanding in service with a great attitude and sense of humor as well as confirming my wine choice as his wine choice for the value. He also had great support on the floor with others who also had excellent senses of humor.

Yelp
High expectations, no delivery...when we arrived it was spot on, but ended up being ignored and received the wrong order. When brought to their attention, they did not seem to care.

Yelp
Wow, best pasta I've had in my entire my life. This meal was my favorite I had in Italy while visiting Rome, Venice & Bologna. Incredible food & fantastic service. Restaurant is small so reservations are a must. A bit of a walk from where we were staying but so happy we kept our reservation & visited. Don't miss this restaurant if you're in Bologna. You must have any of their pastas.

Yelp
We loved everything! The Tagliatelle al ragù alla bolognese was dry (and not saucy), but tasty. And the special of spinach tagliatelle with goose breast and pecorino was salty yummy! Our side of spinach was perfect and a great complement to the dishes so that we can eat a green vegetable for a change. Recommend this small restaurant to anyone in the area of Bologna!
