Regina di Quadri

Pastry shop · San Michele in Bosco

"Try the fluffy puff filled with custard cream, lightly fried and covered in sugar. Then walk up to San Luca to atone for your sin." - Taste of Bologna

Allegra

Restaurant · Marconi

"At Allegra, you are treated to one of Bologna's finest croissants – a rich, buttery delight generously filled with a luscious crema pasticcera that seems straight out of a dream." - Taste Bologna

Gino Fabbri Pastry la caramella

Cake shop · Dozza

"Bad news first: it’s not properly in the city center and you need to take a taxi to get there. Good news: it will be worth every second of your trip. Gino Fabbri is the best pastry chef in Bologna, no doubt about it. All he does is give you first-quality butter, milk, flour and vanilla. He learned how to combine them after many years of practice. Plus, he looks like the Bolognese cheerful grandfather. You need an offensive strategy: focus on a croissant filled with custard cream and attack in the flank with some mignons. Get the panettone iif you're there for Christmas." - Taste Bologna

Trattoria Bertozzi

Restaurant · Malpighi

"For a sit-down experience, Trattoria Bertozzi regularly tops Bologna’s long list of excellent traditional restaurants. It’s almost a mile from the centre, far enough away to maintain its authentic ethos, with local dishes such as gramigna with cured pork, courgettes, saffron and shaved parmesan." - Guardian/Lonely Planet

Mercato delle Erbe

Market · Marconi

"Pop into century-old Mercato delle Erbe indoor fresh market for a bite at one of its casual counter-serve or sit-down restaurants." - CN Traveler

Forno Brisa Galliera - Bakery & Specialty Coffee

Bakery · Marconi

"Lighter bites for breakfast and lunch are delightful at Forno Brisa, a “rebel bakery” with incredible breads, pastries, chocolate, and coffee across its five stores." - CN Traveler

Coral Sisk

Vâgh íñ ufézzí

Restaurant · S. Petronio

"Vâgh iñ Uffézí is awesome for filled pastas like balanzoni (spinach tortelloni filled with ground pork and ricotta)." - Katie Parla

Le Golosità Di Nonna Aurora

Restaurant · Bolognana

"For comfort food like passatelli in brodo, tagliatelle ripassate in padella, and lasagna." - Katie Parla

Trattoria di Via Serra

Italian restaurant · Bolognana

"everything is good" - Katie Parla

All'Osteria Bottega

Restaurant · Malpighi

"everything is good" - Katie Parla

La Lanterna di Diogene

Restaurant · Modena

An hour away by train but seems to be worth it. "For a memorable meal outside of Modena, it’s hard to beat La Lanterna di Diogene. Not only are the owners of this agriturismo the nicest people with the most sensational Lambrusco list, the restaurant and farm also provide employment and professional training to people with special needs." - Katie Parla
