40 New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Bringing casereccio-style Italian cooking to the former Cucina Sorella space, I noticed Trattoria Da Sofia—run by a team of hospitality-minded young entrepreneurs—decorated to evoke Italian streets and offering a daily 3 p.m.–5 p.m. happy hour and a dinner menu with homemade meatballs, fried burrata, short rib–stuffed ravioli, and ossobucco." - Candice Woo

On the Grid : Cucina Sorella

"Cucina Sorella opened in 2016 and is, in our opinion, the best restaurant in Kensington and one of the best in the uptown area. With pasta made in-house, a creative drink list, and some of the best salads and sides around, we're delighted to welcome Cucina Sorella to the neighborhood. The roasted cauliflower and mascarpone polenta are must-try dishes. All of their primi and pasta dishes feature interesting and unexpected ingredient pairings that are sure to please even the most distinguished palates. Perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic dinner date, Cucina Sorella has ample indoor and outdoor seating, but be sure to make a reservation! Their bar and prep counter are full-service and are fun if you stop in without a reservation. Their quaint shop at the front of the restaurant is the perfect place to grab a gift for a friend or a unique item for your home." - Noble Intent Studio

Had a wonderful experience eating here! Service was exceptional & everyone was so friendly. The food was fantastic, too! For appetizers, we ordered the Fiori Di Zucca and Arancini. Our entrees were the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka, Norma, and Ravioli de Pesce. All were fresh & served hot! Will absolutely be coming back here again 😊

My boyfriend and I love this place. My boyfriend has really high expectations and he was in heaven both times we had dinner here. I love their garlic bread and calamari. It’s better to have reservations on the weekend. Also the service is exceptional!! This will be our new to go dinner date spot.

Hands down the best gnocchi I have ever had, cacio e pepe style. Tiramisu table-side was the icing on the cake. Wonderful service, great atmosphere and excellent Italian food made with care. Will definitely be returning for more very soon

It was our first time at Trattoria da Sofia Restaurant, and we were delighted by the warm welcome and excellent service. The waiter was super friendly and even gave us a few helpful tips about the menu. The pasta was absolutely delicious full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Quite an experience! Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.

Takes me back to Italy🇮🇹😍 I love the atmosphere and food here. My friend and I had the best time and our server Yuri was amazing. The bartender made delicious limoncello spritzes and complements to the chefs for the delicious pasta. I absolutely loved the crab and shrimp stuffed ravioli with pistachio cream sauce 🤌🏼🤤 I’m lucky to only live one neighborhood away from this gem and I’ll definitely be back for more!

Google
The place is beautiful it makes you feel like you are in Italy; Homemade Italian dishes from the appetizers all the way to the desserts. Service is outstanding. Definitely one of my favorite spots if you want to enjoy real Homemade Italian food.

Google
So delicious! Prices are mid not cheap but worth the price! My pasta portion shown was half of one portion so if you have a small stomach its best to share. We had the Tartuforsa with truffle fries, along with fresh complimentary focaccia bread. My god this place was awesome for a date 🌹

Google
This place was so tasty! We got a “pick me up” tiramisu espresso martini and a red wine to start. Both were delicious and the service was great. We got the caesar salad, squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta and spinach, seafood ravioli, and fettuccine with mushrooms. Definitely would come back!

Margaret L.

Yelp
Great food and service! We got the spicy rigatoni pasta, carbonara, and the insalata estiva (salad with grapes, pears, cheese). Yuri was our server and was very attentive and funny. Whole experience made my birthday dinner feel special!

Yelp
This has become my all time favorite Italian spot in San Diego thus far!! I have been here about 4x since moving here and have brought someone new with me each time and they love everything just as much as I do!!! The food quality is consistently delicious and the service is top tier!!! They make their pasta from scratch, which... come on... doesn't get better than that! Their flavors are on point and it's the most authentic Italian restaurant I have had here! I highly recommend making a reservation if you intend on dining there for dinner time, especially if it's a weekend, because they do get pretty busy. But it is so worth it

Yelp
Our server Brandon was amazing. He was so charismatic and helpful. This man took the time to double check the ingredients of multiple dishes, in multiple trips, I felt bad that he had to go back multiple times, all while there was a full bar of people to tend too. Plus, through the whole ordeal, never gave an ounce of negative energy, he was so happy the whole time. We can't be more thankful for his willingness to go above and beyond. The ambiance of this place was cozy. It was quite busy and loud this time because of restaurant week. For our food we started with involtini melenzane, so eggplant and cheese baked together in a red sauce, it was good, nothing special about it but good. We also had polpette which is meat balls in red sauce and the meat was delicious! Good thing to note, the meat balls are not gluten free. For our main we got spicy rigatoni vodka and I didn't think I had a high spice tolerance but I didn't taste any spice at all, but they had more red chili flakes you could add. This dish was good but it really was just noodles and sauce with nothing else. The sauce was good but again nothing special. We also got the short ribs and the meat was very tender and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this item. For dessert we tried their lemon cello cake and cannolis. Both fantastic, especially the cannoli, I don't think I have ever had a good cannoli until this place. The tube portion felt freshly made and had an amazing crunch, like they had filled it right before they brought it out to me and the cream wasn't too sweet so I really enjoyed it. The started bread is also super delicious. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There is only street parking.

Yelp
So my sister's birthday rolled around, wanted Italian, and chose this hidden gem via word of mouth, I believe. And oh my (in my best George Takei), were we pleasantly surprised! Our server was excellent. I forget his name, slim on size, but robust in hospitality! I love the interior looking like an Italian side street or alley, down to the clothes hanging across the ceiling. They did a Night at the Roxbury! It was more spacious inside than it looks from the outside (yes, like the TARDIS). A+ for theme originality! The food, the whole point of this review! I had the Ravioli di Carne. And sis ordered the Carbonara. Both were delicious! My dish had no chance. No leftovers here! The tiramisu is made from scratch! In front of your very eyes! Bravissimo! Molto delizioso! *sorry, my Italian is rusty. Most assuredly going back to this cozy spot!

Yelp
I've been here twice and the second time was better! My first visit was in April of last year, so not sure how things are now. We got a mocktail and cocktail to start with. The drinks were very refreshing. For apps, we shared the bruscettone, which had burrata, proscuitto, and figs on top. It was a nice balance of sweet and salty. There was another app that contained squash and toast bread. This one was okay. For our entrees, we got gnocchi with pesto sauce and a pasta dish with ham. They were both very hearty. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine to pair with the pasta as well. For dessert, we opted for the tiramisu! They even gave us complimentary limoncello at the end of our meal. The decor here is pretty cute. I like the clothesline that spreads across a part of the restaurant. The outdoor patio is nice as well.

Yelp
My family and I had a good dinner experience at this lovely restaurant. It's in the wonderful Kensington neighborhood. Decor-fun interior with clothes hanging from the ceiling. Outdoor seating and bright interior. Service-nice friendly service. Food-nice size portions and hand made pastas. I had the seafood ravioli and it was well prepared and had plenty of flavor. Nice place. As a bonus, it's next to a great ice cream shop.

Yelp
Highly recommended by my daughter so gotta try it! Love this quaint, adorable and inviting atmosphere restaurant! I love red ! just to let you know ! so upon entering noticed the red roses surrounding the sculpture water fountain. The red fake window shutters behind the fountain added an outdoor ferl! Red accent on the floor design , velour red upholstered back cushion booth seats and red padded dining chairs. Clothesline with variety clothings hanging above your head feels you are in Sicily outdoors! Service was stellar from the time we sat down till we left !! We indulged on the following: Arancini Fried rice balls with saffron, smothered with meat sauce, and green peas Bruschettone Italian bread topped with Burrata cheese, prosciutto, figs, drizzled with balsamic sauce Polpette Served with house-made meatballs in pomodoro sauce topped with parmesan fondue Barbabietola A bowl salad of Beets, arugula, tangerine, feta cheese with citrus orange vinaigrette Caprese Sofia Served with organic heirloom tomatoes and basil leaves surrounding a ball of buffalo mozzarella, and drizzled with a balsamic reduction sauce Carbonara Served with fresh Spaghetti pasta ,cubes of guanciale ( Italian cured pork jowl) , egg yolk, pecorino cheese Ravioli di Carne Served with Short rib stuffed ravioli, topped with braised short rib , and smothered with butter cream sauce Short Ribs Braised beef in a demi-glace sayce ( a brown French sauce) served on top of mascarpone polenta We were so stuffed and took home a lot of leftovers!!!! ...""""Deliziosa""...., When in San Diego make sure call in for reservations!!!!

Yelp
Love this place, attached a picture of my delicious 8oz filet with mashed potatoes and spinach. But i also started with the grilled artichoke appetizer which is out of this world. Sitting outside looking at beautiful Kensington, very comfortable under the heating elements. If you haven't been, come love this place. Compliments to the Chef!! Ordered the Tiramasu so had to add this. Also delicious. Assembled at the table by our server. Plenty for 4 people to share in my opinion. Excellent choice to finish the meal.

Yelp
Absolutely love sofiaaaaa!! Always a pleasurable experience here. Family friendly and staff is fantastic! Hidden gem and very underrated! Pasta is perfectly al dente!

Yelp
WOW! I love Italian food, and I can confidently say this is easily top 3 in all of San Diego. Talk about a hidden gem tucked away in cute little Kensington that deserves a 10 star review in my opinion. The food was stupid good! I'm still drooling just thinking about it. We went for a double date and everything from start to finish was solid. The service was on point from the moment we walked in to the minute we left-- don't get that a lot these days. Don't just take my word for it tho, go try it (feel free to invite me lol) and then tell me I'm wrong.

Yelp
Every neighborhood deserves a good Trattoria Da Sofia; it's a friendly, hectic, warm, cozy place with solid Italian food served with a consistency that scores of restaurants aspire to. I've been thrice now, once on a Saturday evening just after Happy Hour ended, and then again twice on Sunday nights. I wish I could remember that bartender's name from that Saturday night - or why I didn't take any pictures of any of the food I ordered - but Brandon, at least on the two occasions I revisited, is the shitz. That guy is hilarious - "Some people like hiking. I like to listen to sad music." - and he's warm and interesting and more than makes up for any inconsistencies in the food. The Saturday night I went it was, Mamma Mia, it was crazy. And the entire staff seemed to be running around barking orders or fighting over who-knows-what or asking questions or other servers accusatorily. But bless that bartender's heart. He was one cool cucumber, pumping out drinks with aplomb. His tiramisu cocktail was off-the-charts (and it was layered, too!). On that particular visit, I think I had squash bottoms, blossoms, something, the short ribs and the table side tiramisu.) I must say, that dessert many not be the prettiest thing to look at, but that was head and shoulders the BEST tiramisu I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a lot of Tiramisu. Props to the pastry chef(s). And the table side service? It wasn't whitewater rafting, but it was fun to watch the staff put it together, just the same. I've also eaten the cesare salad (they have anchovies!!), the spicy rigatoni alla vodka, and tried their limoncello cake. The pasta was terrific and cooked to sheer al dente perfection. Spicy? Not so much. It could probably use a degree or two more of heat. The limoncello cake was one sugary, lemony, zesty bite after another and I could have eaten six more slices before going into cardiac arrest. The next couple of visits were calmer so I had more of an opportunity to learn about the place, their vision, the sort of only-the-lonely kind of conversation that makes bartenders want to speed age. If you're looking for a good, more-than-affordable Italian spot - or even if you aren't - you could do a lot worse than Trattoria Da Sofia. I just wish that with all that talent, the menu were less ubiquitous. I mean if we're being honest here - and if we're not what's the point - I could have just as easily been staring at one of hundreds of Italian menus that dot San Diego. That's where it lost a star. But...I know they have it in them, and, besides, it still won't keep me from visiting Brandon on Sunday nights. Let's go, Brandon!

Yelp
Came here after work one day with a friend. We ordered limoncello spritz, the spicy rigatoni, vodka, and the ravioli de pesce to share. The food was delicious. We practically cleared our plates. The interior was so cute. The bar was adorned with a really pretty sitting area, and the main part of the restaurant looked like an alleyway with hanging clothes. The server was pretty nice and we felt attended to. Prices were very reasonable and my friend and I ended the dinner with two shots of Limoncello. Thank you for hosting us. Will be back soon.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my Passion fruit tequila drink and meatballs! Delicious bread! I went back twice on my visit! I enjoyed the pistachio tiramisu built table side!

Yelp
Arrived about an hour before closing on a Friday evening and were able to be seated immediately. I appreciated the interior decoration with the water fountain, clothes hanging above, and even a nice little balcony set-piece near the back. The service was friendly and attentive the whole evening. We started with a dish that I can't find the name of anymore, but it was ricotta&basil stuffed squash blossoms (fried), topped with an apricot fig jam. The flavors were actually really nice and the sweetness of the jam was a great touch. However this dish costs $19 and if you see my picture, it came with only 4 pieces of squash. Not only is this extremely overpriced for the amount of food you get, but they even had the audacity to cover up the large plate with basic lettuce with no dressing. We also ordered the garlic bread which I regret. You get 4 pieces of basically toasted white bread for $11. There wasn't even a hint of garlic flavor! Between these 2 appetizers, it was a terrible way to start the meal. My gf got the Cacio e Pepe gnocchi and while she enjoyed the soft and pillowy texture of the gnocchi itself, the dish was too rich to finish. Between the cream sauce and cheese filled gnocchi, it was too much. She even commented that the sauce was also too thick for a cacio e pepe dish. I felt like you didn't get the sharpness of the black pepper to balance it out. I got the Sugo Pittinicchi which was listed under one of their more unique/special items. I was taken a back by the fact that they serve whole pork ribs and half a sausage (uncut). I appreciate the amount of meat and food, but the presentation of the meats was unrefined to say the least. It looks like you just slapped a bunch of sauce on pasta and some meat and called it a day. With the ribs, I felt like I was at some BBQ restaurant getting my hands dirty etc. Not typical for an Italian restaurant. And the sausage being whole and not cut was simply ridiculous-looking and something I have never seen at any other Italian restaurant. At least cut them in to more appealing and palatable pieces. This was not the experience I had hoped for and I honestly feel like I was shortchanged with the quality and quantity of some of these dishes. There were very few high points of the meal and overall I was very disappointed.

Yelp
Really delicious meal! It's hard to know sometimes, with so many Italian restaurants around Little Italy, North Park, Hillcrest, which ones are boring and which are the real deal. This is the real deal! (Sicilian, but not only red sauces) All of the food we got was amazing. Sometimes it was hard to get a server as they got busier over the course of the night - but still not enough to get me to give less than 5 stars! We went early: 6:30. That let us get seated on the patio (with a reservation) before the line started to grow later in the evening (also for people with reservations - this place is super popular!). DRINKS: I started with the Amore. Looking at old menus & pics on here, they used that name for a cocktail before that was clear (rum + strawberry + lemon + bitters), but now that cocktail has rum + strawberry + lemon + peach and is orange/pink. DELICIOUS. Perfection. The only thing is: there wasn't that much of it and it wasn't that strong. BUT it was so yummy I would get it again. I wanted to switch next to red wine & normally I would get a super tuscan. But our waiter (one of the Italians here, alongside local bussers) recommended a Montepulciano as going better with what I was getting. Delicious too. Good rec! BREAD: The comp foccacia is delicious and comes with GREAT tomato sauce. Often we go out to Italian places on Yelp that get 5 stars, and the tomato sauce is MEH. This was yummy. Not realizing that the foccacia would be so good, my sweetie also ordered the garlic bread. But who can complain about a surfeit of DELICIOUS CARBS AND SAUCES? The garlic bread was 4 giant pieces, with three dips: the delicious tomato sauce, a pesto sauce we ignored, and the BEST gorgonzola dip (white sauce, tasted like blue cheese, I'm assuming that's what it was). YUM. APPETIZERS: I got the Involtini di Melanzane: eggplant perfection! Trust me. I guess you could share it but it was enough for me to eat alone. Sweetie got minestrone soup (soup of the day). He was surprised that it was clear-broth based rather than tomato-broth based. But he thought it was delicious. ENTREES: The OG Yelper Jack M had posted a pic of the pistacchiosa, their pistachio pesto pasta, and it looked so delicious that I needed to try it. YUM! The consistency of the spaghetti (fresh pasta) and the pistachio cream and stracciatella cheese on top was very unusual and very tasty! Also the portions here are HUGE. I couldn't finish this (oh wait - I have the leftovers now for lunch, I forgot!). Sweetie got the Pollo Parmigiana, which came with spaghetti in that delicious tomato sauce again. It was huge and he was very pleased - but he also couldn't finish his. DESSERT: I could not eat anything else! He got the lava cake and really liked it. I had a bite and thought it was ok - but I really was so full I couldn't appreciate anything at that point. Our only notes: water glasses should be BIGGER. They come around and refill and they're very busy, and the glasses are tiny. So either leave a carafe, or start us off with a bigger glass. And I loved the expertise of our waiter on the wine and he was very nice - but they have more bussers than waiters and there were stretches of the night where we didn't see him for 20 or 30 minutes. Also, the heaters are not everywhere and there are only a few tables where you really feel them. But this will become less important as the weather gets warmer. Still, we loved it and will come again. Probably to eat on the early side before the patio gets crazy!

Yelp
Wow wow wow that is all I can say! I got to try this place during the Adams Avenue food walk and we went to go to another place, but then I was reminded of Sophia's and decided to stop in for a bite. Wow, this place was hopping on the inside. I honestly thought that we would have a long way to get a table, but they seated us immediately. The arinchini is some of the best that you will be able to find in America and honestly, I've had Arancini in Italy and this might have been better than a lot of them! You can tell this place is ran by people who love what they do and it really shows. I had two cocktails. Both whose names I can't recall! (I love them) and then after dinner they shared a glass of Lemonchello gratis! Can't wait to come back, the interior of this place is so fun! With shirts hanging from the ceiling on clothes lines. Makes you feel like you are in Italy. The food was epic Level delicious, I loved the beef atop my pasta. It was slow cooked and fall off the bone.

Yelp
The food here was good, however the bad service knocked my overall rating down and overshadowed the entire experience for me. We got the calamari and the eggplant appetizers which were both good. For the pasta, we got the spinach ravioli which was my favorite and the pistachio spaghetti. I was expecting the pistachio flavor to be more subtle but it really was the star of the dish so if you like pistachio this is definitely the pasta dish for you. As for the service, when we walked in as a party of 3 people on a weekday, the host misunderstood and thought we were 6 people. He then immediately had an attitude and was rude to us about walking in without a reservation, which is when I corrected him and then he promptly seated us. Next, our waiter was extremely short with us and acted like we were inconveniencing him by being there and having to place an order for the food. The overall attitude of the wait staff was a huge let down and I would not recommend a dining experience at this restaurant. Service: 1/5 Food: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5

Yelp
Had a wonderful time at Trattoria Da Sofia the final night of SD Restaurant Week. I started with the grilled artichoke hearts, which were perfectly fresh with a hint of lemon. Salmon with pesto risotto followed. The salmon was cooked expertly, with a nice golden sear. For dessert, I selected the limoncello cake and Chun P enjoyed the cannoli. The cake was the definite winner - soft light layers of moist lemon sponge in between fluffy layers of divine lemon cream! I appreciated the strawberry and fruit drizzle over the top. Service was attentive, I do wish their tiny water glasses were larger. The wait staff quickly dashed over to fill them up, but it was a hassle for them. We sat in the front room by the hostess stand - it was a bit hectic with all the food coming out. I think the main room or even the patio out front perhaps had better ambiance.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday in early June, and I couldn't have been more happy with our choice for a celebratory restaurant. It was an especially special birthday since it was my first birthday since having our little boy so it was one of our first date nights. I love restaurants that transport you to another place. I really did feel like we were in Sicily for the night. We started with the summer salad, which was delicious. We also shared the arancini, which was also really good! My husband got the Bolognese, which he said was one of his favorite Bolognese he's ever had. I got the short rib. It was perfectly flavored, and I loved it paired with the polenta. Our waiter was amazing, and the ambience is fun! Additionally, the drinks were yummy, and food was perfection! What's not to love?

Yelp
My husband and I came in yesterday so excited to eat the pistacciosia pasta. Unfortunately, we were told the dish was removed. This really disappointed him, as he had been looking forward to it for weeks. Please bring it back!

Yelp
Family had dinner at Trattoria Da Sofia and we all enjoyed our visit We dined on a Sunday evening and were promptly seated. We liked the decor of the restaurant and even seated inside toward the back we left it was well lit and comfy. It was about a month ago when we went so I do not remember each dish, but I know we had the chicken parm and the meatball appetizer. You can see in the pics our food selection. This was a solid Italian restaurant and one that I am sure to return to when I again visit my son in San Diego.

Yelp
My cousin and I had a reservation on Sunday and were seated immediately upon arrival. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we had stepped into a charming Italian restaurant in Italy. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and all of the employees were incredibly welcoming. Our waitress, a young lady whose name I didn't catch, was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. To start, we ordered the truffle fries and arancini. The truffle fries were very thin, but I felt they could have been crispier--unfortunately, they leaned more on the oily side and were slightly soggy. The arancini was tasty, though it would have been even better with a side of sauce or extra sauce for dipping. I'm sure I could have asked for more, but it would be nice if it came with it by default. We also received complimentary bread, which was really good! For our mains, my cousin ordered the Bolognese and loved it. I had the vongole but substituted clams for shrimp. I also requested limes because I enjoy a lemon-based sauce, and the shrimp were impressively large, which was a great touch. The highlight of our visit--and the main reason we came--was the tableside tiramisu. It was absolutely delightful and lived up to the hype! Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Trattoria Da Sofia and would definitely return to try more menu items. A few small tweaks could enhance some dishes, but the welcoming atmosphere, great service, and delicious tiramisu make this a spot worth visiting again.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite Italian spots in San Diego since I tried it last night! This place was extremely busy on a Friday night so highly recommend reservations! We came for San Diego restaurant week so I never know if the menus are going to be that good but they did not disappoint! Everything we ate was delicious! My favorite was the grilled artichokes but the short rib definitely came in second. The place definitely tries to pack as many tables as close together as possible so just know you will be seated pretty close to other people and it does get loud. The service felt a bit rushed and busy but I get that it was busy. Highly recommend this new Italian spots!! Can't wait to come back and try other things.

Yelp
Food: Bruchetta: Freshest cheese on the crispy bread! My favorite part was the prosciutto and the figs. The fig was fresh and almost tasted like it was picked out that same day. 10/10 Chicken Alfredo: Best quality of noodles I've ever tasted in a pasta. Usually alfredo pasta is heavy, but this one was a great balance that didn't make you feel like shit after. The grilled chicken was just regular grilled chicken, but the mushrooms were so good! If you're not a huge mushroom person, this isnt for you. 10/10 Bolognese: My partner got this plate with meatballs. The noodles were also very fresh, but a tiny bit chewy in my opinion. The sauce was to die for and the meatballs were super flavorful. 9/10 Chocolate lava cake: My least favorite as it wasn't runny like how lava cakes are usually. Other than that, the flavors were there and the cake was super rich! Service: Our server was great and super helpful with her recommendations. Without her, we'd be lost. She was super honest with her opinions on what to order and what not to order (AKA "you could make this at home. You should try this"). 10/10 Ambiance: Super cute place with a bunch of different Italian soccer player jerseys hung up, red soft couches, and a beautiful bar you can't stop starring at. Just be aware that it is REALLY loud. It you're on a first date or feel like catching up with someone, you'll need to raise your voice lol. It wasnt a big deal for me, but just something to keep in mind. 9/10 Overall, we're bringing EVERYONE we know here because this food is AMAZING. Definitely need to come and try the food.

Yelp
This place is cute! It's tucked in Kensington, parking can be a little tricky but the food is worth the hunt. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We ordered bread, calamari, truffle fries, vodka pasta and sea bass. Everything was delicious. I would return for another delicious dinner.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Kensington and we'll absolutely be going back!! Everyone was so welcoming, food was delicious and I can't believe we just discovered this place!

Yelp
Great Italian restaurant in an amazing location, with convenient parking nearby. Lots of seating and last-minute reservations. Loved the interior. It was super interesting and unique, and the place had a really good vibe inside. We started with Arancini, which were delicious, and then we had ravioli one with short rib, and the other one with crab and shrimp. Everything was customizable, and I've managed to get pesto sauce with ravioli, which was also incredibly fresh and delicious. We were full for dessert, but can't wait to try it next time.

I can't get over how incredible the food & experience was! The food had great portions, so much flavor & our waitress Sara was amazing They've curated every interior detail to where- for a moment it felt like you were in Sicily. My bf and I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Came for restaurant week. Food was very basic. Not bad, Just nothing special. Artichokes app was good, lemon cake good. Salmon and chicken were bland. Sadly, I was disappointed.

Yelp
Check out Sofia for happy hour from 4 to 5. Delicious food, great cocktails and wonderful servers. Turi was ours this day and he is excellent!

Yelp
My husband & I went for dinner a few weeks ago before heading downtown for a comedy show. I ordered the ravioli di carne and my husband ordered the tagliatelle. The food was good, but not great. Portions were a little on the small side, especially given the prices ($29/$35). The entrees are a la carte, so there was no soup or salad included. We were served warm bread which was very good. I had a glass of sangria, which was just ok. We ordered the bread pudding for dessert and it was the highlight of the meal. Overall it was a good dinner, but nothing about dinner impressed me enough to recommend this place or plan on returning.

Yelp
It was my first time here with my best friend for dinner. We made an appointment, but we were 30minutes late looking for parking. It was quite hard to find one given that we had a big ass truck. Also was on a Saturday so definitely not the best day around Kensington area. Found one in the neighborhoods behind the restaurant. Food is amazing. I haven't been to Italy but felt like I was there lol. My bestie got the spicy vodka rigatoni (holy shit it was amazing) and I got the carbonara and chicken on the side for protein. Their water cups are so small, but they have staff coming in to refill it almost every 15minutes which made the service so amazing. They bring in different cool pitchers everytime they fill our waters. I wished I could've bought one from them lol. Our waiters are absolutely so welcoming and friendly. Definitely coming back here again.

Yelp
This spot quickly made its way into my top 5 favorite italian spots in San Diego. -The restaurant itself was seriously adorable complete with clothes hanging from the ceiling and a mini roman style fountain when you first walk in. It totally feels like a family's kitchen when you sit down -We ordered our pasta and got it within 3-4 minutes! -The spicy rigatoni was the absolute star of the show. Super creamy sauce that reminded me of tomato bisque just better. Pasta cooked to absolute perfection (that perfect al dente texture) on both dishes. -The pistachio pesto pasta was a pass. If you like pistachio (like seriously love) then you may like this dish. There is no pesto flavor whatsoever, it's just a creamy slightly sweet pistachio sauce. Salting it and adding more parm made it taste a bit better.

Yelp
The food, drinks, and services were excellent. We loved the pasta and the appetizers. It gets a little loud in there but it wasn't a big deal because we were having a great time with our guests. Docking one star only because it was so hot inside. We were sweating and the heat made us uncomfortable. We did ask for them to lower the thermostat but it just got hotter. I don't think they have air conditioning so dining here during the Summer won't be an option for us. We would have ordered more drinks and stay longer but we really wanted to get outside where it was cooler. I wouldn't go back anytime soon but perhaps in the cooler months. Also the waiter was great and attentive yet borderline inappropriate with trying to repeatedly make us lick the tiramisu spoon after he prepared the dish table side. All in all we would try this place again based on the food taste and quality.

Yelp
I went there for my birthday dinner with some of my girlfriends yesterday. Vibes were amazing like they literally brought Italy to San Diego! Cute interior designs that give you "Italy" vibes all the time. Their services were all AMAZING. Our waiters were so nice & on it all the time!! The food was also so delicious!! My friends and I all got the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka pasta with different types of protein in it (I got chicken, one of my other friends got it with meatballs, and the other got it with some cheese) so definitely feel free to adjust your orders. I would definitely come back. And you MUST MUST get the tiramisu for dessert. They have a regular tiramisu or one with pistachio as an option. kk bye !!

Yelp
Located on Adam Ave & off of the 15. My husband & I came here for an early dinner & was happy to see that it was also Happy Hour from 4pm - 5pm! On top of that, it is served every day. They have flatbread, salad, pasta, wines, cocktails & beer on there. They have a variety of pastas & it was so hard trying to choose (& because of that, we are definitely coming back to try more!) Very friendly & attentive service. Inside & covered patio seating. Cesare Salad: One of the tastiest cesare salads I have ever had & their dressing is homemade. Carbonara: Creamy & flavorful. Only complaint I have is that I wish there was more sauce! All of their cocktails were strong & delicious.

Yelp
giving this place a solid 3.5/5 they close at 9, we came in at 8:15. we were 1 of 3 tables due to the fact they were closing soon. the space itself is huge, it could fit maybe 20-25 parties at once. we ordered the caesar salad, ravioli di carne, and the pistachio tiramisu. caesar salad was standard, 6/10. the ravioli di carne was good! it has shorten both is due the ravioli and short rib on top. it was very filling and came with 5 raviolis. 8/10 the pistachio tiramisu is what we really came for. we heard it was tableside service and of course we had to do it for the plot. 8/10! i would come back here for the ravioli and tiramisu. this place is good but felt like a solid standard spot. i was hoping for it to have a little bit more of an upscale feel. the food is average too. it's again, a standard spot. SD is just known to have so many italian spots to choose from which is why i'm saying this falls a little flat.

Yelp
The food is delicious, but the portion sizes were smaller than I expected. Apparently, the drinks were good according to my friends. I felt like the wait was a bit longer, but the inside was very cool. There are clothes hung on clothing lines which was a fun addition to decor.

Yelp
Food was delicious! We went in during happy hour and ordered 4 different bites dishes (truffle fries, arancine, polpette, and margherita flatbread), the risotto pescatore, a few kids' spaghetti meals, a cappuccino and an expresso. Service was good and the ambience was everything I would have wanted it to be...beautiful, relaxing, Italian, reminded me of a street scene from an Italian movie...we absolutely loved it!

Yelp
Visited on Halloween, so there was plenty of space, though he did ask us if we had a reservation. Not sure why. We ordered drinks that we both did not enjoy. The margarita was anything but a margarita. We asked for salt on the rim and did not get it; not sure if that was a language barrier with server. Also the host, was bartending, so not sure if he was the actual bartender or host/server. They bring you out garlic bread with a side of marinara, which was ice cold. We then ordered the crispy burrata that when I cut into it and felt it, it was ice cold. So I had to ask if this was the way they served it and the marinara sauce, which I got a yes to both. I am not sure how deep fried burrata should be cold in the middle. I ordered the Insalata Siciliana, which also was ice cold. I know it is suppose to be served cold, but I guess the lack of flavor and the coldness did not do it justice. The only meal that was pretty good was the Vongole pasta. I absolutely loved the Fettuccine pasta, that I probably would have asked if I could purchase dry if things were not going so awful. It was paper thin and delicious. It did lack sauce, not enough to flavor the whole dish. The clams were cooked well. I was disappoint with the overall experience, was hoping for a better Italian restaurant in Kensington!

Yelp
First the good news. The food here is actually quite good. We ordered a ceaser salad, tomato salad, clams, chicken parm, carbonara and ravioli with meat. The salads were a bit on the small side but everything was quite tasty. Now for the bad news. The ambiance here is not great. The place is incredibly noisy. You pretty much have to scream if you want to have a conversation. There are clotheslines hanging from the ceiling with clothes on them. Pretty strange decor for an otherwise nice looking restaurant. The big problem here is the service. We asked for bras and none ever arrived. We got two out of the three drinks we ordered and had to ask for the third. There was no extra plate for the clam shells. After one hour and five minutes we were told by the bus boy that we had to leave since they needed the table. The staff needs much better training. Good food but a fairly unpleasant experience otherwise. Probably won't bother to come back.

Yelp
I've been to Trattoria de Sofia before and was really impressed when they first opened--the food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Unfortunately, this recent visit was a major letdown. Service was extremely disappointing. We sat down for dinner and placed our order right away, but our drinks didn't arrive until after our food had already been served--and even then, it took over five minutes more. When I politely mentioned this to our server, there was no apology or acknowledgment, just a curt, "We're busy tonight." That level of indifference really stood out. As for the food, the quality has noticeably gone down. My noodles were overcooked, the meat in my entrée was dry and tough, and even the pasta Bolognese--usually a safe bet--was bland and underwhelming. I always try to give places the benefit of the doubt, especially when I've had a great experience in the past, but this visit fell far below expectations. I hope the restaurant can return to the quality and service that made it such a standout when it first opened.

Yelp
Had an assortment of appetizers and main of raviolis dishes (not pictured). The signature drinks were very tasty. Very cute and stylish decor. The service was top notch by a Peppe. I am a fan and will be back soon.

Yelp
We went last night for restaurant week. Felt like we were in Italy. Very cute restaurant and packed. Salmon was very good and flavorful, pesto risotto fabulous. Short ribs delicious, and spicy pasta was good. The marinara with bread app was great. Roving photographer fun but $25 for a photo? Will definitely recommend for a fun Italian restaurant with good food and ambience.. The reason for 4 stars is it's very loud.

Yelp
We had the best experience here! We had been visiting San Diego for a comedy show and actually stumbled upon this local favorite spot. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the ambiance was so fitting for the restaurant. We had pistachio tiramisu which we had never tried before. Turns out the people who started it made it by accident then it was a hit! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Best hidden gem in San Diego! The burrata was amazing. The pasta was amazing and fresh. The atmosphere was super cute. Service was great I love this place, better than a lot of places in little Italy! So glad I found this

Yelp
Popped in here for a quick try with a friend. We had some wine and split a pasta dish and garlic bread. Wine selection was ok. Garlic bread came out and at first glance it looked kind of bland but it was actually very flavorful and good texture. Dipping sauces given with it were good too. We had originally ordered the cacio e Pepe pasta but the server came back and told us they were out of the Parmesan gnocchi it comes with but was told they could substitute a different pasta for it if we wanted. We opted for that and chose spaghetti. When we got the pasta, the dish tasted very bland (Ive had cacio e Pepe at most restaurants in SD too so I have a good basis for judging). We told the server and he was a gem and offered to replace the dish for us which we accepted. We got the bolognese pasta as the replacement and were very happy with it. Super good flavors on it and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The ambiance is interesting here. It's like kind of street cafe decor vibes and lighting is very bright. There is indoor and outdoor seating though which is nice. I definitely want to come back to try their happy hour as the menu looks good.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to this restaurant located on Adams Ave in the heart of Kensington and I was not disappointed. First, we were greeted by the friendly host immediately when we entered the restaurant. I really enjoyed the decorations as I walked to our table, looked like an Italian town with all the clothes hanging above the tables. I really enjoyed all the food that we shared family style. Appetizers: Garlic bread 5/5 Crispy burrata 5/5 Beet salad 4/5 Main dishes: Ravioli carne 5/5 Sugo Pittinicci 4/5 This restaurant would be a perfect place for date night and highly recommend due to the homemade pasta and warm atmosphere.
