Dalla Rosa Alda

"The undoubted star of this restaurant is the Enbogonè tagliatelle – a pasta made entirely by hand and seasoned with a sauce made from borlotti beans, local extra - virgin olive oil and rosemary – although the menu features many other dishes. Simple, honest cuisine made mainly from carefully selected regional produce, accompanied by an excellent selection of local wines." - Michelin Inspector

Very good and quiet restaurant with a lovely terras. Not on the dessert menu: cheese to finish the wine. They fixed a cheese platter. Great and thanks. Xxx

Incredible food, wine, location and service. The family, who has been running this hotel since the 1800s, went beyond and above to make our stay enjoyable and unforgettable. And they succeeded wonderfully. ||The hotel is at the top of Sant’Ambrogio, in a small village surrounded by vines from where you have a stunning view of the valley as well as Lake Garda. ||The rooms are spacious and clean. The authentic style given by the furniture, specially the large wooden bed, is very enjoyable.||At breakfast, we were served local and fresh products on the terrace outside. The coffee, charcuterie, cheese and homemade jam were to die for. When the plate was empty (it was each time quickly the case), they always ask if we wanted more. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the day. ||In the evening, we had a wine tasting along the dinner with local Amarone, Ripasso and a sweet wine made in the village. The son of the owner, who speaks perfect English, took the time to explain in details the story behind each selection. And we learned a lot about the grapes and process of the region. He also recommended us some great wineries to visit.||The food was splendid as the wine. Everything was fresh, local and/or homemade. Since we didn’t know what to choose, he concocted us a menu with several of their dishes that would best match each of the wine we were tasting. The truffle gnocchi is really a must if it is on the carte when you visit! ||This has been the highlight of our Italian road trip. And we can’t wait to go back! |

Dalla Rosa has been in the Rosa family hands for many generations dating from 1800s, and offers a wonderful experience in a very beautiful setting high above the surrounding vineyards. The circuitous, twisting road up to this little village called San Giorgio is a treat, and affords amazing views of the surrounding countryside while building your curiosity at what lies around the next hairpin curve.. ||This hotel while many years old is very well constructed and maintained, and it has been renovated to high standards. The owners and staff are very welcoming and appreciative of your visit. Senior Rosa pointed out a beautiful panoramic walk (about 2k) along a country road that affords an even more spectacular view of Lake Garda and treats you with fresh waterfalls flowing from the base of the Dolomite range. ||After my walk I was relaxing on the back patio, visiting with other guests, while Senior Rosa treated us to glasses of Valpollicella and some kitchen fresh grissini. Very relaxing and welcoming.||That night dinner was superb with a beautiful 2006 Amarone suggested by one of the younger Rosa’s. Breakfast was also a treat including excellent local specialty of Valpollicella infused breakfast cake baked in a large metal tin.||I would highly recommend the Dalla Rosa a base to explore this beautiful region on north-eastern Italy just a short drive north of Verona. There an amazing array of sights to see or to just enjoy the atmosphere.

Good rooms, with airco, good beds and very friendly staf. And of course the best way to enjoy to excellent kitchen of this place. Very modern bathroom facilities. I like this place. The terrace behind the hotel gives you the opportunity to have a nice night view on the Garda Lake. The small city San Giorgio di Valpollicella is very old and interesting to walk around. Make a nice stroll.

We visited this place about 25 years ago, and, more recently a month ago.||So, to compare...||The rooms are now much nicer, with all mod-cons including ensuite bathrooms and even air-conditioning.||The owner still has one of the best wine cellars in the area (we had the best bottle of red on our holiday in this place (and our tour of Italy was pretty extensive (Emilia Romagna,Tuscany, Umbria, Latium, Piemonte, Lombardia)).||We also had some of the best food here too, but not as good as 25 years ago when the owners wife used to cook polenta over coals dragged from the open fire, then put gorgonzola on top (aaaahhh - happy days!!). ||Breakfast was poor (as in so many Italian places?))||||San Giorgio is beautiful, with wonderful views across Lago di Garda and Verona. Try the bar in the 'centre' too, great atmosphere and you can just take your drink into the square with everybody else and enjoy the view....||||Go! Enjoy!

We came here after doing some research for places in the vicinity of our B&B. The restaurant itself seemed to be the spot for terrace style dining and we had that to start. However 10 minutes after sitting down on the terrace, a storm unleashed and literally blew the umbrellas down. We had to move to the main dining room and honestly the reason why I couldn't give this place five stars was because of the mood. There was no ambiance in the place. There was no music, only whispers from the other tables and an almost clinical feel. Adding to that, it was HOT and I had to ask the waiter to open a window, as if he was somehow immune to the hot conditions. Food was very good but that's to be expected in Italy!

We wanted to stay away from Garda lakeside, with the crowds and high charges, and combine it with a visit to the Valpolicella vineyards. Just 20 minutes drive from Bardolino and high up in the hills overlooking the lake is this wonderful taverna which has a few rooms, and approaching from the outside the modest facade disguises the sophisticated and professional accommodation within. Antique wooden and marble furniture with modern and stylish fittings, a spacious and quiet room. I found the mattress a bit hard though. The taverna is great - offers a small but competent range of local Veneto style dishes cooked lovingly on the premises and a succulent range of Veneto wines, especially strong on Valpolicella. Breakfast was of an equally high standard. Parking is limited, there are some spaces near the church and the square about 50 yards away.

had a nice room with aircon, very very friendly people speaking Italian, English and German. you can drink one of the great local wines from their own cellar and breakfast, lunch and diner on their outside terrace. ||i highly recommend this place to people looking for a great albergo away from the crowded lago di garda but like to visit both the lake as the valpolicella wine region!||

Yelp
I hesitate to write this review and add Dalla Rosa Alda to the pages of yelp. I want the beautiful town of San Giorgio and this trattoria all to myself! This is the kind of restaurant which you only find by recommendation of exacting food loving locals. We were lucky enough to meet such a person on our trip to Verona and a tour of the Allegrini winery. No review of Dalla Rosa Alda would be complete without a short descirption of the village San Giorgio. A narrow and winding road brings you to the top of a mountain. (hill?) As far as I could tell the town has a deli, a cafe, a church, perhaps a hotel or two, and this fine restaurant. But, most importantly, breathtaking views of Lake Garda and the Valpolicella region wineries. Here's a brief rundown of the food sampled: Pasta e fagioli soup - I had a bad "bean" experience as a child, so my appreciation for the tender morsels has been slow to recover as an adult. Further experiences with poorly prepared versions of pasta e fagioli in the States hasn't helped. If I was going to learn to love this traditional Italian soup, then now was the time. Here, the soup was perfectly seasoned with firm bites of pasta throughout. Still more bean than pasta for my taste, but the excellence in preparation showed through. My wife loved it. Risotto - As is common in the Verona area, no restaurant will prepare Risotto for you unless you are willing to wait 20+ minutes and order more than 2 plates. This was our last night and we couldn't wait any longer to try it, despite our usual aversion to ordering the same dish. We were rewarded with some of the best risotto I have ever had. Slow cooked beef and polenta - Hugely rich in flavor cut with your fork beef with a side of oh so sticky creamy polenta. Lamb chops - Medium rare in the center, lightly seasoned, perfectly charred bone. Like little meat lollipops. So that's it. A hidden gem, revealed. I'm mostly writing this review for selfish reasons in case I lose the business card. But, perhaps some fellow yelpers will appreciate the goodness that is Dalla Rosa Alda....
