Trattoria La Vigna: A Disappointing Dining Experience
Trattoria La Vigna in Galveston was an utterly deplorable dining experience that left us stunned by its lack of quality and service. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt off—uninviting hosts and staff, some inexplicably wearing masks like it’s still 2020, set a bizarre tone. Our waiter, who never bothered to introduce themselves, dropped off water with a curt, “Are you going to have anything else?”—hardly the warm Italian hospitality one might expect.
The food was a disaster. The mussels and calamari appetizer was mediocre at best; the calamari was passable, but the mussels were lackluster. My linguini with clams was a tasteless, lukewarm mess, barely edible, though I forced it down out of hunger. My wife’s eggplant parmesan was stone-cold, as if it had been sitting out for hours. To make matters worse, our waiter never checked on us until I was nearly done eating, forcing us to flag down another server to get their attention.
When I mentioned to the waiter that my dish wasn’t hot as he cleared the plates, he had the audacity to stick his finger in the sauce and claim it was “warm,” dismissing my complaint with shocking unprofessionalism. The overall ambiance was dreadful, with no warmth or charm to redeem the experience. Galveston has far better Italian restaurants—avoid Trattoria La Vigna at all costs.
I still left a $15.00 tip on a $135 tab but the waiter did not deserve it.
