Was in Ferndale to see a show at the Magic Bag and had some time to kill. The drinks were fabulous, the atmosphere was comfortable but the standout of the whole experience was our bartender Patrick B. He was friendly and attentive. But most of all he was able to recommend the best place to sit/be for a show at the Magic Bag. He made our night!

If you like your drinks alittle more strong than what you get at the store, you will love this place. The Old Fashion and the Fitzgerald is sweet and the rye is the best from the tasting menu. The waffle fries with BBQ sauce is the best of their pub food. You can even show your love for the place by buying clothes to wear. Only problem was not having diet pop for the non drinkers. Never had that problem at any other bar I have been to. Well, Cosmo is next door.

Google
Drinks are amazing! Tasty and the bar staff is friendly, they share their recipes. Get a jar of marichino cherries to go. They mix well in soda, juice, very tasty. The only issue I have is the uncomfortable seating. The backless barstools are slippery and uncomfortable. I guess it's a way to stop overindulgence? Lol. If they would get more comfortable bar stools I'd give the extra star. It's a cool place.

Google
Great service, and great drinks. Apple Whiskey Sour is really good, and so is the “Sweet Jane”.

Google
We love TCWC in Traverse City so we were happy to find the Outpost closer to home. It offers a similar, cozy environment to hang out with good food from next door. The drinks are always made perfectly and the rotating specials are always good.

Google
We had a disappointing experience due to the extremely poor service provided by one of their bartenders on Saturday March 2nd. From the moment we sat down it was evident that she had no interest in serving the 4 of us. She walked off while we were trying to communicate with her and had a rude expression on her face throughout our interaction. Despite complimenting her, she blatantly ignored us. It was also noticeable how attentive she was to other customers at the other end of the bar which made us feel neglected and unimportant. Overall her behavior was unprofessional and complete ruined what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. Although the drinks were very good, the service was very poor.

Google
Best cherry whiskey around. Atmosphere is fun and inviting and the staff know their whiskey. It’s a fun place to get a few drinks or buy a bottle to take home.

Yelp
David made the most amazing smoked Rosemary rye old fashion. This is one of my favorite places!!

Yelp
Traverse City Whiskey Company makes excellent whiskey. And, the prices aren't bad if you're buying whiskey by the bottle. I've gotten whiskey here before, so I knew the cherry whiskey has a natural flavor that works well with the round notes of the barrels where they're aged. We decided to get two bottles of the cherry, plus a bottle of the apple, and a bottle of rye. I hadn't had the apple before, and my friend asked the bartender if we could try a sample. It didn't occur to me until later, but the way he phrased the response was very specific: "you want to order a sample?" We didn't realize until we got the bill that we were charged $5 for each "sample", which was maybe an ounce. He also took care to measure the "sample". I've gotten samples here before, and they were always free. Most people figure that a splash of the product is a small price to pay if you're spending $200 on liquor. I suppose that's up to the discretion of the bartender. The apple whiskey barely registers an apple flavor, but the whiskey is excellent. And, it's impressive that they are able to maintain 80 proof. Typically, flavored liquors are lower alcohol, because they dilute the whiskey with the flavoring. But, back to the service. It wasn't as if the bartender was providing pleasant conversation. I don't expect to be entertained by the bartender, but I also don't want to be made to feel that I'm inconveniencing him because I want him to reach behind him to grab some bottles of whiskey to buy. I love the setting, but this bartender succeeded in killing the vibe. I will buy Traverse City's excellent whiskey, but I'll look for it in other locations...not here.

Yelp
I love restaurants that make it super easy to stop in with large groups without the hassle. I was with about 15 women on a Saturday night and we really wanted to have drinks and chill out. Traverse City Whiskey Co. Outpost welcomed us with open arms, allowed us to order and pay separately as well. This automatically gives them five stars alone because this is so hard to do in most places! I ordered the wings, they were delicious, and the whiskey flight which was amazing. Our server was kind, customer friendly and patient with my group as well. Thank you all so much, I for sure will be back!

Jay M.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. Friendly bartender. We had the pumpkin pie shot, delicious! Definitely will return for more drinks!

Christina C.

Yelp
Small, dark bar space that does all of the things right. They make a good variety of whiskey drinks and the service is attentive. I didn't even know there was another place other than the main Traverse City Whiskey Co. Our group covered several of the drinks on the menu and they didn't disappoint. So grab yourself some pizza next door at COMO's and then stop for some whiskey.

Jon B.

Yelp
Obviously great whiskey. Cool vibes inside. Drinks are little pricey but that's expected at trendy bar.

Stacey S.

Yelp
Whoa, why can't this place be closer to my house? Seriously cool place to hang out and have a cocktail! We went to Pig and Whiskey and I just had to stop in here - so glad I did! When you come in you feel totally at ease as soon as you sit down. We both tried a Mule - excellent. Next time this is where we go first!

Amanda L.

Yelp
Came here with some friends on a rainy Thursday night out in Ferndale. Traverse City Whiskey Co. Outpost wasn't all that busy when we first got in, but did start picking up as we were getting ready to leave around 9:30 pm. This place is so moody and awesome. The walls are painted this gorgeously deep & rich-looking navy that we were all obsessed with and wished we could get away with in our homes, but it was the perfect vibe for a whiskey bar. I don't drink, so I can't tell you how the whiskey was, but my friends definitely enjoyed it, had a couple of cocktails each along with a flight of the whole Traverse City Whiskey line to try out as well. Generous samples of each whiskey in this flight for a great price. Personally, the ginger beer (Goslings brand) I had was DELICIOUS!

Rich G.

Yelp
The place is great! Service is friendly comfortable and great. I order the food and the chef personally brought out the food himself. Awesome.

Mary G.

Yelp
Outstanding - drinks, service and ambiance. This place has it all! Wish I lived a little closer.

Noah B.

Yelp
I've visited this location twice, once about 2 years ago and once recently - they have to-go cocktails now which is what this review is based off of. I went into the restaurant next door and adjoining to them (Como's) and while I waited for a table I came in here to grab a cocktail to go, I believe it was called a whiskey sour. The bartender was super friendly and very helpful in choosing a drink as I'm not a whiskey drinker - at all. My friend got the same thing as me and while it's a little expensive for what it is (not much alcohol and around $9+tip) we both figured we were helping this company in what little way we could and also helping the bartender make some money. The drink tasted good but it wasn't something I'd order again. When I visited around 2 years ago I want to say I had something similar, maybe even the same drink while we also waited for a table at Imperial, my group of friends and I came here for a quick drink. The ambiance is nice and if you're a whiskey drinker you will love this place, just isn't for me :(

Gary B.

Yelp
A side room whiskey tasting room to Como's in Ferndale. They share restrooms with Como's in addition to leading into them. Very limited street parking, limited public pay parking behind. Inside is old wood bar chic, with a selection of the whiskeys for flights, samples and cocktail. Limited snacks from Como's. The staff was great. The prices were high. Some of our fellow customers were Ferndale douches. A small sales area for Traverse City Whiskey tees, glasses, crap, onesies...

Shelly G.

Yelp
Great date night. Had a few old fashions. They were legit awesome!! Great atmosphere Music wasn't to loud so we were able to have great conversation. Definitely will be back!!

Melissa M.

Yelp
I love this place. The cocktails are great, but expensive. Service is usually on point.

Jessica N.

Yelp
Traverse City Whiskey is such a cute new spot in Ferndale! It's located next to Como's but also has an entrance inside of Como's and the two establishments are attached. The architecture is a long skinny rectangular corridor with seating at the bar and at booths and tables across from the bar. There are a few electrical outlets built into the booths. Atmosphere was nice and festive with Christmas decorations. They sold glassware, t-shirts, and other merch in the back. Traverse City Whiskey sells bourbons, rye, whiskey, port, and gin. They have a few flavored whiskeys such as apple and cherry whiskeys. You can purchase bottles ranging in price from $24.99 - $94.99. You can also do a tasting flight with four preselected spirits ranging in price from $18-$24. They also make classic cocktails like a Sazerac, Manhattan, Old Fashioned and specialty cocktails like a Michigan mule, whiskey margarita, G&T and more. Most cocktails are around $9-$11. They also had a couple seasonal cocktails including a hot buttered bourbon cider, and apple sour for $11 a piece. I had the hot buttered bourbon cider and wow!! it was sooo good! It was a hot cozy cocktail made with melted butter and brown sugar and cinnamon with bourbon and apple cider, served with a stroop waffle cookie! When the bartender described it and told me it came with a cookie too, I was like sold! and I was not disappointed. It was the perfect holiday cocktail and I'd definitely like to replicate it at home. My friend had the cherry sour and was less thrilled with it as it was a bit too sour for her liking. They also have a small food menu with charcuterie and cheese boards, burger, cheese curds, mixed sweet potato and classic waffle fries, wings, and pretzel bites. We just ate so only had drinks this time. Service was great! Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed my visit here and would love to stop in again especially for another hot buttered bourbon cider before the holiday season is over.

Yelp
Had a great experience at an Yelp event. The staff in there are awesome. I tried three different tastings one was whiskey the two rye and porter. The rye was fantastic, nice and smooth. We were privileged to a sampling of their appetizers, which were also very good especially the waffle fries and also the pretzel balls. If you are a whiskey drinker this a place to try.

Ed W.

Yelp
This place has a different vide than most of the spots nearby. It's nice. We came in for a few cocktails and bought a bottle of bourbon to take with us. Everything was very nice. The place was busy, but our server made sure to come by and check on us. He seemed a bit overworked, but he was very nice.

Becky P.

Yelp
We were barhopping and decided to stop in here. I am normally a person who goes for cheaper drinks, but this $11 old fashioned was worth every cent. The best one I've had, so I had a second one. I would have loved to have tried another drink too but we were on a tight schedule. Will absolutely be back, whether to this one or the one in Traverse. The staff was fun, friendly, personable. I believe Kali was one of the employees names and she was wonderful. She was training another girl (who was the one to make our drinks- clearly a good asset to the team!).

Arturo F.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times and it's gotten better each time. I think earlier on they didn't have the service part down, but the last time, the bartenders gave great recommendations and were a lot quicker than previous times. The cocktails are fantastic -- my favorite so far is the Michigan Mule. I don't love their whiskeys straight, but that's probably because I prefer Scotch over things like Bourbon or Rye, and I don't love cherry (which is a Traverse City staple). Personal preference, so I stick to their great cocktails. I wish the food menu was a bit larger, considering they share a kitchen with the restaurant next door, but what I've had is really good. I strongly recommend the chicken wings! Overall, it's a nice addition to Ferndale, especially if you're looking for somewhere more laid back where you can have a conversation without screaming.

Shavon M.

Yelp
Loved the look of the place the drinks were tasty. It was a nice summer night to be out with friends. I would recommend!

Stacia G.

Yelp
Good whisky, nice folk, not quite yet organized. You can get samples, cocktails, appetizers, and buy merchandise. Great decor and product. Nice addition for Ferndale.

Jessica G.

Yelp
I am a huge Traverse City Whiskey fan and was so excited when they opened a tasting room close to home here in Ferndale. The two most popular cocktails here are probably the Cherry Sour and the Old Fashioned. The sour is their take on the classic whisk(e)y sour made with their cherry whiskey, house made sour mix, and house made simple, properly shaken for a frothy finish. They prep all of these ingredients so they are always fresh. The Old Fashioned is classically made but that house made simple really amps it up for a wonderful taste. They also house make the luxardo-style cherries. You really can't get fresher hand-crafted ingredients at most bars around. Best part - happy hour classic cocktails Monday - Thursday from 4-6pm for $6!

Amy S.

Yelp
ALL CAPS BC I'M SO EXCITED THIS IS IN FERNDALE NOW! This has been my fave whiskey since they released the 1st batch of cherry. Buttered hot burboun cider was amazing. Yes, they use actual butter infused with cinnamon and maple. My gf had the gin drink (toasted rosemary, grapfruit) and it was so good that we, as non gin drinkers, bought a bottle of gin to take home.

Connor A.

Yelp
Really cool space! Cozy, classy and cool vibe. Delicious whiskey, we got a whiskey flight! Allows you to sample all their whiskeys.

Marge S.

Yelp
Great place!! Drinks are wonderful & staff is super friendly. It is a nice small joint in the old Como's bar area. Awesome Old fashioned & seasonal cocktails!

Samantha L.

Yelp
Dave is one of the best bartenders I've ever had! He made the experience very enjoyable. Great whiskey and cool staff. Would definitely recommend!

Lina E.

Yelp
Their menu was so bare and expensive for nothing. The drinks were not pleasant and the vibe was beyond boring.

Amber H.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, and delicious cocktails but slow service. Pre-warning, the standard flights are only 1/2 ounce pours when the universal standard shot measurement is exactly 1.5 Oz. They are NOT even half shots! So they charge $18 for a 5 glass standard flight that only contains 1/2 ounce of their whiskey per glass* The food menu is limted to only several items* All which are not vegan or vegetarian friendly unless you get their tasty waffle fries without their signature bacon BBQ sauce*

Kali G.

Yelp
Brand new local watering hole. Features award winning Michigan made whisky, bourbon & gin. Welcomes you with a rustic northern Michigan aesthetic!

RubyPolarisZazer P.

Yelp
I'm a whiskey fan, I originally tried their whiskey at a restaurant in Wyandotte. The bartender told me about this place and so glad we checked it out. We had a lot of fun, nice atmosphere, clean, friendly staff.

Candice J.

Yelp
Whiskey is just "OK''. There was only one bartender, she didn't care what we ordered didn't ask what we would like couldn't care less about anything. Too bad cuz we didn't know what to order but we tried everything.

Jenny F.

Yelp
Went in for a drink, not impressed. It has a snobby atmosphere, probably due to the rude full of attitude short blonde woman behind the bar. Do yourself a favour and go get yourself some good whiskey from an amazing fun staff at Motor City Gas.

Tonia L.

Yelp
I have been to the Traverse City whiskey Outpost In Ferndale a few times now and it is a great establishment. The staff and the drinks are amazing. The bartender Kali served up an refreshing cocktail called the Cherry Sour and it was fantastic. I am not very familiar with the different types of Whiskey, and she was very knowledgeable. The cocktails are fantastic!

Lee C.

Yelp
Bartender was very rude, horrible service. First time at this location and he gave us very unclear instructions on how to sit and order and snapped at us after following his directions. From the moment we walked in he was short, loud and condescending and we walked out without ordering anything. Wish this location was more like the one in Traverse City.

J C R.

Yelp
Sam is the shit! They have a great selection of whiskey, friendly staff, and delicious appetizers.

Chris B.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and it just gets better and better! The cocktails are stunning and the whiskey itself is just as spectacular. While the food menu is limited, the items on it are a perfect pairing. Cheese curds, pretzel bites, and a beautiful charcuterie board are all highlights of this menu. If you're looking for a great drink and a quick bite this is the perfect place to be! Parking is limited, but that fault lies with the city of Ferndale. The bar has absolutely nailed the rustic chic look, and is never too loud to hear the people sitting next to you. They have great music playing at all hours, and the merch is all soooooo cute! The service is absolutely amazing. James has taken care of us the few times we've been here, and has been incredible! He's obviously very knowledgeable, and can answer any question we throw at him with a quick, accurate answer. He's always very attentive and extremely kind. Overall, this bar has been a wonderful addition to Ferndale's bar scene. The great craft cocktails, surprisingly good food, and personable service has made us fans for life. We will continue to frequent this bar, and encourage anyone who hasn't tried it to do so!

Drew T.

Yelp
Went to Traverse City Whiskey for the first time last night. The staff was extremely unfriendly and denied my service dog. My service dog was wearing a vest that identifies him as a service animal. The bartender with glasses and light hair made a point to yell at me about bringing him into the bar. She asked me to provide his credentials which is against state law. When I told her that my service dog had a right to be in the bar she told me that she didn't care and told me that he had to leave. This caused a huge scene and was extremely embarrassing. The entire situation was handled unprofessionally and unlawfully. I felt discriminated against. I will not be returning.

Serena F.

Yelp
Get the Cherry Sour and you will not be disappointed!!!! This is the most underrated bar in Ferndale - great staff and amazing drinks. They only have a few snack options but this is the place to go for a drink before or after dinner ! Check this place out

Kelly N.

Yelp
Finally made it to the outpost! Sam and Courtney took care of us and were super hospitable and friendly. We enjoyed our favorite Port barrel Whiskey and also tasted their delicious Gin..great cozy space and awesome drinks, what more could you want. So happy that Traverse City Whiskey has made its way south to the D. Looking forward to our next visit to try the Hot buttered Bourbon.

Christina W.

Yelp
We met some friends last night for drinks and were very pleasantly surprised by this place. Besides incredible drinks (I had the Cherry Sour and it was delish!), but their food is fantastic too. The bar's decor is a mix of leathers, wood and industrial. The staff were quite attentive and helpful in helping us decide our drinks. This bar is perfectly located and within walking distance from everything in Ferndale. TCW will be a regular watering hole for sure!
