"I'm told the Traverse City Whiskey Co. tasting room is set to open in early July inside a subdivided sliver of Como’s at the corner of Nine Mile and Woodward in Ferndale; it should seat around 60 people, is hiring opening staff, and will offer a full cocktail menu built around the company’s whiskies — including bourbon and rye — as well as some products that aren’t part of the distillery’s wider distribution. The tasting room’s licensing narrowly passed after a divided Ferndale city council vote following recent rule changes that now require liquor-license holders to provide or subsidize parking, and some council members expressed concern about too many local liquor licenses. This will be the distillery’s second location; Traverse City Whiskey Co., founded in 2014 by Chris Fredrickson, Jared Rapp, and Moti Goldring, has an 800-barrel production capacity and is building a larger production facility and visitor center in Traverse City." - Brenna Houck
