Wow, just wow. This spot is fantastic. I ordered the the Double Trouble tacos as my main entree (not surprising if you follow me). The tacos were unbelievable, presenting a fantastic contrast in a soft shell taco layered with refried beans followed by a crunchy taco shell filled and standard taco toppings. It was absolutely delicious and featured a walnut chorizo, which I have not seen at a vegan spot before. It came with chips….. PRO TIP: order a bowl of chili with the tacos to dip the chips in and to collect any taco toppings that fell out of the shells. The chili by itself was really really good but paired even better with the chips. Very chill atmosphere and the service was quick and seamless. Everything was awesome and I’m looking forward to this peanut butter tart for dessert!! Update after PB tart: this is unbelievable. Chocolate and peanut butter in an Oreo-adjacent pie crust. Amazing!

Google
Great little spot and will be a staple for me when I’m going through KC from now on. Excellent food, nice people, very fair prices. Been vegan about 2.5 years now, and this one had me asking “are we sure this is vegan?” Monte cristo: 10/10 no notes Buff mac wrap: 11/10 - for when you love loaded mac and cheese but hate forks. BBQ jack: 6/10 - not my kind of sauce

I cannot sing enough praises about this place! Friendly staff, nice restaurant layout, and some BOMB food!!! I had a whole convo with one of the owners and the server, both of whom were so friendly and accommodating! I've had that Caesar wrap b4, but this one was better than I remembered! I'm in town every few months and make it a point to grab some tree hugger! OH! And that coffee cake? Lord HELP! I wish I bought TWO! I'll be back tomorrow for that BBQ Sammy!

Out of town we always look for new vegetarian places to try. We ordered a chicken Caesar wrap, frito burrito, & a cheese burger. As vegetarians of about 10 years- my spouse, child, & I were all happy with the meals ordered. I liked the vibe in there. It’s has really bright colors, soft seating, local artist work for sell, family board games to play, & unique plants on the tables. I only gave it 4 stars bc I’ve been places I liked a lot more & wished the menu was bigger/had a kids menu, but still very good. Give it a try. We would come back if out here again.

First time experience.... I was in between trips and had a few minutes, so I stopped by to try this place. No, I definitely wasn't dressed like the typical customer who might frequent a location like this. Since I've never been there, I just sat at the table and read over the menu on the wall. I was waiting quite a while, expecting somebody to come over to take my order. Staff were chattering with each other. I saw somebody else come in, and they ordered at the counter and served themselves water.🤦‍♀️ It would've been nice to have been told that by the staff. Ugh. I decided on chili since it would be quick to serve... and I was thankful it was served quickly. 5👍 $5 for a bowl: it was a great price, and it SOOOOOO delicious. A few different beans, different peppers, and tomatoes. DEFINITELY recommend. 5👍 $5 cornbread: I decided to order the cornbread. Meh... I wasn't that impressed. It was $5, but their reasoning is that it was a large piece. I feel it was overpriced and unnecessarily large. 👎 Typically, I would think this is a side order. Perhaps I wouldn't feel the same if it was half as large and half the price. I had read the reviews prior to going... so I was hoping to have seen and experienced the friendly and engaging staff. Nope. They were busy talking to each other. They really didn't converse much with other diners as well. That was a bummer 👎 I'm not sure if I'd go there again. Perhaps I will take out or show up without my formal work clothes. 😔

Let me start by making it very clear that I'm not vegan and have had very few vegan dining experiences thus far. That being said, I was absolutely FLOORED by how delicious this place is!! I ordered the Buffalo Mac Wrap, which FAR surpassed my expectations. I followed it up with their chocolate peanut butter tart and was blown away by how good it was. And I'm not talking "good for vegan food." I mean, this was just flat-out delicious. The environment is very artsy, relaxing and welcoming. Friendly service staff and a great atmosphere all around. Totally going back. A lot.

Google
Wow! Amazing comfort food! So much flavour and huge portions. Very satisfying! With food like this, i don’t understand why people keep eating animal flesh and secretions! We had the chilli cheese fries and Buffalo Ranch Burger. They were amazing! Highly recommended!

Google
Amazing service as always. Today I got the chili cheez fries. They were so amazing. Freshly made and super hot. I was able to taste a very small sample of the "kc bbq sample" b/c I wasn't sure I'd like the bbq. It's sweeter than I'd prefer, but not bad at all. I will order the entire meal next time. So far I've had 1) the loaded tater tots (with fries instead of tots) 2) ultimate nachos 3)buffalo cauliflower bites 4) Chili cheez fries (today) 5)Honey mustard chicken Sammy 6) buffalo mac wrap 7) side of French fries 8) buffalo ranch burger. So far everything has been amazing. My 🐃 cauliflower bites were a little colder than I liked, but other than that, this place is fantastic. Next I'm getting the bbq Sammie or the monte Cristo sandwich

Yelp
Tree Hugger is hands-down my favorite vegan restaurant in town! I'm not fully vegan (I'm a cheese-loving vegetarian), but this place seriously never makes me miss cheese -- ever. I got the Buffalo Mac Wrap, and I swear it tasted just like actual mac and cheese, down to the creamy goodness and the little "bacon" bits. The buffalo cauliflower bites on the side were crispy perfection, with tangy buffalo sauce and a house-made ranch that tastes just like the real thing -- I could drink it. And then... the peanut butter chocolate tart. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Decadent, rich, just the right amount of sweet -- truly unforgettable. Vegan or not, Tree Hugger is a must.

Yelp
Love the ambiance! My jackfruit Reuben was okay- decent with the flavor but I think the jackfruit and sauerkraut are too similar and don't balance each other. But I'm excited to come back and try other items!

Yelp
Come through Kansas City for this spot. Only place I know with a vegan Monte Cristo. And the desserts are so delicious. They have such friendly service. A must go to place to have delicious food and sit and play a game of uno.
google avatar

Alondra G.

Yelp
I am not vegan so I thought the chicken and bacon bits were bland but neither are bad. The vegan sauces were impressive and the food does come with plenty of it. I loved the bbq jackfruit on the loaded tots but that does cost extra. I do think the price is expensive. For a simple sandwich to be priced that high I could at least get some fries. The seating areas are clean and the employees were helpful.

Yelp
Tried out Tree Hugger for the first time with the family this summer. I ordered the Ultimate Nachos with Chili Walnut Chorizo (the other option is BBQ Jackfruit). I also treated myself to the dollop of guacamole for $2, making these nachos cost a grand total of $19. The nachos were good but I probably will not order them again given that price. I usually don't leave food behind but these had that bottom layer gooey chip situation that wasn't worth finishing. But overall love a vegan spot and now that I'm in the area I'll have to stop by more often to try some of the other options.

Yelp
The best plant-based menu and food I've ever had. I ordered way too much because I couldn't decide and then I couldn't stop eating. The Reuben fries and the meatloaf Sammie are both spectacular. If I lived near this place I would go here every day and I'm not joking. Bravo to the staff for taking such care to make these meals so fabulous!

Yelp
Since my husband is a vegetarian, we figured this would be a great option - and it turns out we were right! The inside of the restaurant is small, but decked out for cozyness - lots of pillows and bench seating. It turns out this place started out as a food truck. The process of ordering is pretty similar - you order at the counter, and then they let you know when your food is ready. The staff were all very sweet. I had the fish tacos, which were delicious, and they didn't have an overly fishy taste, which was a plus for me. I do think they need to work a bit on their tortilla chips - they seemed store-bought and kind of lacked flavor, compared to other restaurant chips. Overall, I was satisfied with Tree Huggers, and we'll probably come back if we're in the area.

Yelp
The Tree Hugger is a little gem. You ever go to a vegetarian restaurant, look at the menu only to be met by unfamiliar ingredients and pretentious titles, perhaps something called The Earth is Awesome and So Am I, maybe consisting of chia emulsion, purple amaranth, and cassava braised in the happy tears of Aztec children, and then charged $27 for the privilege of eating healthy and leaving hungry, and, sure, it tasted good but you're, like, dang, can somebody bring me a vegan sammy and tots?! Well, guess what, Tree Hugger is here for you! On our visit, the first of many, we tried the Rueben (jackfruit),Fish Tacos (heart of palm), and Taco Salad (walnut chorizo) and they were all exceptional. As were the tots, of course. It was hard to decide on those three, so many items looked tantalizing. The seating area is brightly lit and comfortable with local art on the walls and a super friendly staff that, for me, was the quintessence of happy dining. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Such super nice clean cute place to have lunch. All food was great! Service was fast too. Love that they recycle and compost.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
Deliciously fried monte cristo sandwich. Super tasty barbecue sandwich too. The tots were okay but in big portions which is good for $6. Super friendly employee. Lovely peanut butter tart dessert and soft dense pumpkin brownie in a little muffin shape.
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
So welcoming from the moment we stepped in. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by their friendly employees and all of the live plants. My bf is vegan and was in search for a BBQ sandwich and their jackfruit version will stay rent free in my head. Their mac and cheez was perfectly done and I wish we had gotten more. I got their phish tacos and they were also good. They did miss on the chips and salsa, but otherwise would absolutely make it here again the next time I am in KC.

Yelp
Holy smokes, my mom and I stopped in. We are both meat eaters, but enjoy trying vegetarian/vegan foods. No clue if this place is vegan or vegetarian, but if I could cook like this, my plant based meal consumption would go up considerably. We got a Reuben and Monte Cristo. The Rueben was probably one of the best my mom or I have had. Fantastic toasted bread and the "meat" and dressing were crazy flavorful. If given the option, this would be my go-to Reuben. The monte cristo (which I never get because I don't really eat pork and hate ham) was crispy and flavorful. No clue how it compares to a regular one, but it was delicious. When I am back in KC, this place will be on my "gotta get" list.

Yelp
My family stopped in for Mother's Day and enjoyed an all vegan lunch. I was so happy to see a lunch rush here, which means others are loving this place to. Tree Hugger offers a 100% vegan menu with a lot of diverse options - burgers, wraps, tacos, etc. Kansas City doesn't have many all vegan restaurants, so Tree Hugger fills an important niche. While I'm not a vegan myself, I enjoyed the bowl of vegan chili. My mom was a fan of the "fish" tacos, and has ordered them several times. I also tried some of the nachos - my only critique here would be a recommendation to get some higher quality tortilla chips, rather than the American style golden rounds. They've done a great job making the place feel homey and welcoming, with ample seating, board, games, and lots of greenery. I only wish it was closer to home! We need something like this in Olathe!
google avatar

Paradiso T.

Yelp
Great food and service! So happy to have amazing vegan food available - so happy to have found such an amazing resource.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place. First, the positive my sandwich was very tasty! But here's the butt for a sandwich to be over $12 I should be full and this sandwich just left me wanting another one. I felt like there was no separation of ingredients, I've made this dish myself and I usually dye the jack fruit in a beet, tamarin, veg broth marinade, So as to give the color of corn beef and the flavor. Also jackfruit need to be hot and Sourkraut cold so as to give off the different temperatures and contrasts. Any who tasty but needed to be at least twice the size

Yelp
When looking for food I wanted to be intentional about finding a local vegetarian friendly place to eat before leaving KC. Boy did I find the right spot! It had a great vibe. Fun, light, and really great service. Everyone was so kind and the food was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately I was so hungry the phone didn't eat before me but when I got the Reuben fries and Buffalo Mac wrap, I couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. 11/10 would recommend making this a stop! No critical thoughts here.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in the door, you're surrounded by good energy. Not to mention if Brandy (s/p?) is working, you're greeted with a warm, loving and welcoming smile :-) ... You'll feel at home. Love that the dining room is decorated with art for sale. Careful, there's a delicious display of desserts to tempt you while you order at the counter. I've been craving a Rueben and this hit the spot. The jackfruit is delicious, kraut soooo zingy and the house made 1K dressing scrumptious. The rye bread appeared toasted but it was really soft, almost soggy, but the innards were so good I didn't GAF. I also ordered the caesar wrap as a bowl. So so good. Romaine was fresh and crisp, plenty of shredded "parm" and just enough soy curls. Oh, I forgot to hold the croutons, but holy moly I'm glad I F:ed the one up, cause those suckers were the highlight. They were fresh and a bit salty, so they really took the place of "anchovy" flavor in a real caeser. I love that they do their part for the earth too: there's recycle and compost containers for when you bus your table. I can sum up my visit here by saying: I arrived in KC today from two weeks in Portland, the Mecca of vegan foods. Long story, short, I was really bummed to leave Portland and come to KC because of the lack of options for all vegan restaurants, but Tree Hugger is a savior and now I can have a go-to place in KC. Thank you to the entire team! I'll be a familiar face every time I'm in town,

Yelp
100% vegan restaurant. Impressive menu. Warps. Burgers. Tacos. Burritos. You name it. Also a rotation of pastries. We went to this place on our way to our hotel from the airport. Uber dude said this place used to be a subway. Wow. What an upgrade. Friendly staff. Clean place. Decor is pretty cool. But the food was really good. I got the Montecristo which is a deep fired triple decker sandwich and my wife got the fish tacos. Both really good. Definitely recommend it
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Love this place! Just landed from the airport and grabbed lunch. I asked for a suggestion and got the KC BBQ sandwich and it was so delicious! So many of the right flavors. Friends got the Caesar wrap, taco salad and the Buffalo ranch burger and all loved them! Service was great too. I'll be back before we leave and my best friend that lives here says she will make it a regular place.
google avatar

Yelp
I originally tried Tree hugger when they were still operating out of a food truck and loved their food! I'm not sure if they still do the food truck or just have the actual in person sit down restaurant but I have had a great experience at both! I have tried all the wraps, the tater tots (SO good) and today I tried to bbq sandwich and fish tacos and those are now my new favorites! Even my dad who pretty much only eats meat said it was delicious which says A LOT LOL! I wish I lived closer to Tree Hugger because I would be here everyday!

Yelp
Memo to Kansas City - we need MORE places like this amazing joint!!! Meateaters - I guarantee you won't be missing animal flesh when you eat this delicious food! I don't usually get high and mighty as a flexitarian, but this place absolutely gets to claim superiority over everyone else. The chick'n Caesar wrap is to die for! The Reuben is revolutionary. The fries are craveable. I will make it my mission in life to order everything off this menu. Super kind service, even though we came in 15 mins before close. So glad to be able to support this amazing place and their incredible team!
google avatar

Thuy P.

Yelp
YUMMY and fresh! we had a flight in 1.5 hours so we wanted to find a location that was on the way - we were so lucky to find treehugger! i called in the to go order with the friendly staff and my order was ready by the time i arrived to the restaurant -15 mins. we LOVED the baja fish tacos! you can tell they use very fresh ingredients. the mac wrap was also good comfort food. you can get utensils and napkins from the front right side of the restaurant.
google avatar

Lynne H.

Yelp
The food and service here were exceptional! I have an allergy and they were very careful to check all the things that they used in the dish that I was interested in. Even going as far as bringing out the spices and different things to make sure that it was all good for me.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
Hands down the best food I have ever had! I had the rueben sandwich, which did not disappoint! It had so much flavor that once you took the first bite, you didn't want to put it down. I also had the peanut butter tart. It was so silky and was the perfect balance between chocolate and peanut butter without one overpowering the other. This place is amazing and I definitely tip my hat to the chef! Job well done! I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!
google avatar

Jean G.

Yelp
Monte Cristo sandwich. This place is top notch! All 4 of us had different items that we absolutely loved! I will become a regular! Thank you for bringing amazing vegan food to our community!

Teresa T.

Yelp
Delicious vegan restaurant for vegans and meat eaters both! My sister, brother in law, (omnis) and I (vegetarian) went for lunch and got multiple things to share. The Buffalo Mac Wrap is SO good and filling, the Reuben fries were so tangy and delicious, and the loaded tots are so cheesy (I think I'd get some ketchup next time to add some acidity). The Monte Cristo is cheesy and melty and incredibly yummy with the raspberry jam (and good with the ranch too), but we like to share it because it would be pretty heavy to eat the entire thing. The Double Trouble Tacos were a new one for us this time and while they loved them, I saved my room for the fries! We were all so full we almost rolled out of there, AND we had leftovers. The service was great, our food came out quickly, and I love that they have recycling/compost right there. The restaurant is very welcoming and eclectic with art on the walls from local artists. Go here, then pick what you're going to have next time and go again!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to and have eaten many, many plant based and vegan/vegetarian food in my time, and this place was recommeded by Yelp! I'd never heard of this place before and it didn't disappoint. I got the Frito Burrito and fries and it didn't last long. I tore through it with wild abandon. Please do yourself a favor and eat here ASAP. Let's keep plant based food alive in KC!

Dan G.

Yelp
We tried this place thinking it was going to be a real clean eats place. It might be plant based but the deep frying of most things on the menu negates that it's plant based. The tots, cauliflower, and monte cristo we ordered were far from appetizing due to the amount of grease. However, the Baja tacos were delicious but the plain corn chips that come with them are a real let down. I would've thought it would be air fried without a coating of something you get at a carnival. Then you are carrying the smell of grease in your clothes....they went straight to the washing machine. I know they get a lot of good reviews but it wasn't the clean eating we expected.
google avatar

Carli L.

Yelp
Food, incredible. Service, excellent. So clean and bright in the restaurant! We stayed here over an hour also playing board games. Would have stayed longer but needed to get back on the road :,) SO worth the lil 10 minute drive from downtown. Please go!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Great location with something new and different for the area. There aren't a lot of vegan restaurants in the Northland so this is a great addition to the area. We have frequently gone to their food truck in the past. It's nice to have a brick-and-mortar location to go for lunch or dinner. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We really enjoy the loaded nachos. So yummy! We are going to try the bbq sandwich next visit.
google avatar

M G.

Yelp
I'm not a vegan. I'm not a vegetarian. I love burnt ends, hamburgers, and chicken wings and I love Tree Hugger Kitchen. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the hospitality was great. I had the Buffalo Mac Wrap and Reuben Fries with the corned jackfruit (corned beef substitute) added and I loved them both. I'm definitely coming back so I can try the rest of the menu! Oh!... and save room for dessert! Not pictured here is the peanut butter tart I had after my meal. It was homemade and it was the perfect ending to an already perfect meal. Can't recommend this place enough!

K W.

Yelp
Being a carnivore I was not sure what to expect, but wow was I surprised. I ordered the Monte Cristo and it was delicious. My mom ordered the Reuben. She did not care for it so we swapped. I thought for a Reuben made from Jackfruit it was delicious. No probably not going to replace corned beef, but it was very good .

Lauren L.

Yelp
Wow! Fell in love with this spot ! Me and my husband were visiting from LA to see family and we were so excited this was within delivery distance ! We ordered from here 3 times in the 4 days we were here ! We tried the chicken ceaser wrap, the chicken salad sandwich (our favorite), chili cheez fries, fish tacos and the frito burrito! Everything was so delicious ! Sad we won't be back for awhile but this is definitely an amazing spot that is a must have in Kansas City !!!!!

Yelp
A vegan restaurant in Riverside? This certainly isn't your grandfathers Northland any longer! It what once was a decrepit Subway in a very non-descript strip mall, Tree Hugger is growing roots and providing a cool and righteous option for the neighborhood. I went in on opening day at noon and the place was hopping; a great sign for the future and probably great joy to the owners that sank a lot of time, money and effort to trade in their food truck and make the big leap to a brick and mortar in what few would consider a trendy area. The space is bright and clean with a big and bold menu board taking center stage with attached potted plants. Cable spools are used for some of the tables, long cushioned benches with vibrant pillows allow flexible seating options and local art adorns one wall. Cut flowers, plants or vines are at each table. I ordered the Loaded Tater Tots from the sharables section of the diverse menu. A large basket of tots covered with vegan equivalents of sour cream and nacho cheese along with green onions, "bacon" bits and jalapeños. For an upcharge I added walnut chorizo crumbles. Overall a very tasty meal in a cool casual environment served by nice people.
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Loved the cozy feeling at this place. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious. It's hidden in a very quiet plaza right outside of Kansas City but glad we managed to find it on our road trip.

Ashley K.

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick sandwich and I ate that chicken salad sandwich before I could even get a pic! Great place for a vegan version of your deli favorites. Oh and that ooey gooey butter cookie??? Yes please!

Krystal G.

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious! Caesar chicken wrap is the best thing you'll eat!! French fries need to be changed, it's expected to be frozen but was literally not living up to the standard of their food. Attn to mgmt: Switch out, only reason this was a 4 star experience.
google avatar

Thom M.

Yelp
Great food, there Mac N cheese is delightful. I had the Monte Cristo Burger, also quite good. A little greasy for me at the end but i enjoyed it all the same. The server / cashier was polite and swift to deliver my food. The environment was pretty nice like a cafe, music choice was a bit annoying but you can't please everyone.
google avatar

Brittlee M.

Yelp
The food here was phenomenal!! Unfortunately only got one picture because we devoured everything else before I thought about it!! The Buffalo Mac wrap was so yummy, and the chili cheese fries were a hit for an appetizer for the group! Will definitely be coming back because the menu had so many yummy looking things in it!!

Miriam N.

Yelp
Wonderful first experience. Food was delicious and was a nice atmosphere to catch up with some relatives I don't see too often! Thank you!

Alpha M.

Yelp
The first time we are here, we got the taco salad, monte Cristo, bbq Sammy and burger. Everything was good. The taco salad is one of the best I have tasted.. even among non vegan versions. So we went back, we ordered the same except added the Reuben. It was all tasty. If you are hungry and want fast service, go early on weekends or go on a weekday. They do get busy which I am very happy to see. Need to support more local small businesses. Yummy food without harming any animals is possible.
google avatar

Aryn F.

Yelp
Love the food and the service!!!! Such a great place to enjoy home cookies vegan dishes!!!
google avatar

Dominic B.

Yelp
There is a Vegan Place in Riverside you ask? Yes! Come here! Ordered a Monte Cristo and Loaded Tater Tots. I was pleasantly surprised they had alcoholic options as well. Staff were fast and friendly. Food was mouthwatering. Cheers to Tree Hugger for doing the most! I will be back!
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Pretty great veggie food. I had the burnt ends sandwich and I didn't realize it was vegan until I was almost done. If you're in the mood for feel good vegan food then I'd recommend this place 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. Mmm.
google avatar

Jeff E.

Yelp
Great lunch! Loved the decor inside also. Very stylish. Super friendly staff and very fast service! Will be back soon.

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Amazing! Had Buffalo Mac and cheese wrap. Awesome to have such a great vegetarian option north!

Clint S.

Yelp
Amazing food And great variety. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The decor was very cozy and warm as well. We will definitely be back!

Britni M.

Yelp
Incredible food and very friendly staff! Ive tried 3/4 of the menu and have liked everything. Favorite probably the chicken ceaser wrap and taco salad

Yelp
Hands down the best vegan restaurant in Kansas City! So many options to choose from, and there's nothing we haven't tried at this point. The food is always fresh and served with a smile! So awesome to see them grow into their new location, and we always stop by when we're in town! Love you guys!
