Delicious wine, great people!
We decided to make a daytrip to Napa on short notice, so we did not made plans and certainly did not prepare. While on the way, someone in our small group of four found Trefethen Family Vineyards and convinced us that we should stop there not knowing that reservations were required!
So when we arrived and walked in, we were told that we could not have a real wine tasting experience due to lack of reservation. The disappointment on our faces must have been so overwhelming that the gentleman who seemed to be owner/operator took pity on us and suggested that we could do quick tasting of the bottles that we were interested in at the counter. That was the best alternative available and we did not turn it down. While others were tasting I walked around a bit and shot a few photos.
The wine is very good. We ended up buying a couple of bottles of red and rose, and the building is beautifully decorated.
I do not pretend to know a lot about wine, but apparently Trefethen's location on Napa Valley floor has a mixture of soils that helps promote diversity in their wine program. According to John Ruel, CEO of the winery:
"Areas with high gravel content are well-drained, thus suited to Cabernet Sauvignon in particular," he says. "Areas with richer soil are better suited to varieties like Merlot and Chardonnay."
Their 2018 Estate Grown Chardonnay is a good example to try. It Received a rating of 93 and goes for around $38 per bottle.
