How to Tackle Addiction Aquatic Development, Taipei’s Seafood Paradise | Eater

"An upscale, fine-dining seafood restaurant in a separate building owned by the same group, with a swanky two-level interior, fluorescent mood lighting, and balconies overlooking the neighboring charcoal grill. Tanks outside showcase the day's fresh seafood to be ordered a la carte; the menu spans raw, grilled, steamed, fried, hot-pot, and handroll preparations, and the restaurant offers multicourse set menus for larger parties (about 1000–2280 TWD per person). Dishes are decadently presented (examples include sashimi and raw-oyster platters, seafood soups, grilled prawns, steamed scallops with scallion and vermicelli, tender beef filet, and whole steamed fish), the table is graced with a whole wasabi root guests may grate themselves, and reservations and cash are recommended as cards are not accepted." - Karissa Chen

I love this restaurant. Comfortable and great ambiance. Fresh seafood. Cooked to perfection. Delicious. One of the best seafood meals I’ve had so far anywhere in the world.

Google
The quality of the food is good and the presentation is well done. The seafood served is fresh and the steaks are great. The vegetable dishes are delicious as well. The staff are very attentive and helpful. The private room that we got was spacious and seated our group comfortably.

Serves seafood mainly. It's located next to the seafood wholesale market and has its own fresh seafood supplies. No questions about it, the dishes are beyond fresh. But, the servers are not enthusiastic. It's wonderful if you know your way around. But, if you are like me, a first time visit to the store, it'll take a while to get what you want. Prices are high, expect to pay big buck and in cash only. Dishes are without a doubt fresh and delicious. Bring your wallet and your patience with you. But remember to reserve seats ahead. BTW, the AC isn't working too well, I was perspiring so bad while dining.

If you want fish fresher than the one they have in this place you better take a boat and join some fishermen. Otherwise here the quality is great. You can't go better in Taipei in terms of freshness. Also the environment is unique. It looks like a normal place but try it...abandon yourself and you will have a high class dining experience. Great service!

Great place with great ambience. Popular spot for business dinners so do make a reservation if you’re going on a Friday night or weekend. The Alaskan King Crab legs were soooo juicy and huge. Enjoyed them thoroughly - coming from someone who doesn’t typically derive much joy from eating crabs. The clam soup was pretty good too. We got them to make it with ginger instead of garlic and it was yummy and wholesome. The sashimi platter was amazing. I don’t know why the oysters weren’t fresh (they said the only option that day was baked). Was slightly disappointed cos the last trip we were here, there were fresh oysters which I much prefer. The uni was a miss this time. Everything else was great though. The grilled fish was nicely seasoned. The beef cubes were also pretty alright. Not a must to order at a seafood restaurant haha For fruit that night, they served us white dragon fruit, pineapple and rose apple. Definitely a nice place to go for a more “upscale” seafood dinner. Our hotel reception staff that helped make the reservation said locals don’t typically come here cos it’s on the pricier side, but they said the food is good.

Google
A delicious seafood restaurant where you can impress but be prepared to spend the $$$. Come for the ambiance and the crab! This was my second time back and was disappointed they didn’t have King Crab like the first time but the Snow Crab turned out better than I thought. Slightly sweet and juicy, unlike the frozen crab legs at Vegas buffets. Check the price on the fish, wasn’t quite worth it IMO, $100USD and it wasn’t even live. Hand rolls are a nice appetizer. Get the shrimp and have it steamed. Do not get it grilled which is tough and tastes overcooked.

Hello Viewers, coming to Taipei for one of the most famous fish market, then you gotta come in and try Trevor's De La Mer. I love the richness, complicity foods presentation, especially for a large group of business. the foods are prepare with freshness, and variety of the seafoods, my opinion of the seafoods are as long as they are fresh, they are very tasteful. lucky, coming here for the business trip, we have 20+ people sharing the foods, so I get to try out every foods that's possible. besides the delicious foods, the spacious dinning seating, and very good crafted alcohol mixed are very suitable for business and celebration. P.S - in my opinion, the seafoods are darn good enough, maybe no need to add MSG into the cooking. thanks, Paul

I have been here for few times, the foods here is very fresh, Japanese food lovers will love this place too. The services is good but when the restaurant gets busy it looks like the staffs are not enough to service the customers but it’s understandable. If you have a chance should try it, book the table first!!

Yelp
Great service--staff provided hand-washing towels, kept the table clear of clutter, and timed the dishes perfectly throughout the meal. We ordered the lobster set meal for 8 people (they also offer set options for shrimp and king crab). Everything was incredibly fresh, sourced directly from the next-door live seafood market. The sashimi was super fresh and firm with excellent texture. The oysters were huge and very fresh. I especially enjoyed the surf clam dish, which was packed with aromatics and showcased different parts of the clam, cleaned and prepared exceptionally well. The lobster had really good flavor, though I believe they used alcohol in the preparation. I would have preferred if it had been cooked off a bit more, as it left a slightly bitter aftertaste. Other included dishes, like vegetables, swordfish, and fresh fruit, were also very good. Note: The restaurant is not very accessible for wheelchairs.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, amazing service, and wonderful food and drinks. There's a lot of options here. The first floor got bbq style but outdoor seatings so hot days with bugs isn't for everyone. There's a little cart at the corner for drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages) and desserts which are also outdoor seatings. If you make your way in to the left it's a market of a fresh live seafood, packaged seafood, Japanese products, a beautiful selections of alcoholic beverages such as wine and sake, boxed sashimi/nigiri/rolls, and many other items. You can eat standing up inside and there's a indoor bar to order drinks as well. Just outside of the market's exit are long tables for customers to stand and eat the food you just bought outside (with shade but no AC) or you could take it home. If you make your way to the right, it's the restaurant. You order outside then they will bring you to your seats upstairs. The tables along the edge of the restaurant inside is without AC and the ones inside pass the glass doors are with strong AC. If you aren't good with the cold, I'd suggest you request for the ones at the edge (views of the first floor and all the lighting). If you like the cold, it's best to request inside the glass doors but there's no views at all. The restrooms are all gender and shared. They are both clean and the hand towels are eco-friendly, just drop them in the basket to be washed. There are also restrooms downstairs on the first floor. The parking lot is in the basement but there are bus stops at walking distance too. You can call the taxi or wave one down if you walk a little more towards the main roads. It's pricey as it's in Taipei and they are high-quality ingredients. There's definitely similar experience with slight lower price but I'd say it's definitely worth it once in awhile! It's actually a chain and there's are 3 other locations but this one is the original one and the service and quality (both food and drinks) are better here. Delicious, cooked to perfect texture and consistency, and the freshness is just unbelievable. Highly recommend for a special day!

Yelp
Sashimi platter was very good and service was excellent. I would have rated 5 stars if all items in the platter were my favorites but seveal items just didn't fit my taste. It was our second time there and we plan to go back again next week to try their A5 Wagyu steak. Prices were very reasonable. This is definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Taipei.

Yelp
Our adventure at the Addiction Aquatic Development led us to Tresors de la Mer which is a sit down Japanese restaurant at the Taipei Fish Market. There's no sit down sushi area inside Addiction Aquatic Development so my mom insisted we try Tresors de la Mer which is located to the right of the charcoal grill restaurant of the market. Tresors de la Mer offers fresh seafood that they obtain from the market. It's a sit down restaurant with two different seating levels. You have to walk up a flight of stairs in order to get to the patio/2nd/3rd floors(there are no elevators). My mom decided to go with the prix fix menu. There are a few you can choose from but she opted for the $880 NT per person. That seemed like a lot of money but it is a fancier restaurant offering fresh seafood. I was shocked when she placed FRESH WASABI onto our table. This is not an inexpensive root and I've seen it sold at Nijiya in San Diego for quite a bit of money. The wasabi was set on a grate plate and a bamboo brush. Visit my blog for more detailed review and photos We had: SASHIMI PLATTER: - his was a massive presentation. MASSIVE. I understood now why the price per person was high because they do give you an ample amount of food here at Tresors de la Mer. We had six people so there was more than enough sashimi on this platter to go around. Some items I wish they had given us more of though. The platter consisted of amaebi, mountain yam with fish roe, mackerel tataki, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, hotate (scallop) sashimi. VEGETABLE: - I can't remember the name of this vegetable. I want to say it's a kelp. Regardless, it was stir fried nicely with garlic and salt. STEAK: - Cousin added a few garlic chips as well to his slice. The steak was so delicious as it was tender, fatty, and cooked to a nice medium. This was one of my favorite dishes that day. GRILLED SHRIMP: - The jumbo grilled shrimp tasted dry and we didn't enjoy it very much. FISH AND TOFU: - The split fish head was interesting to look at. The brown nut tasted a bit like goji berries. The dish was just ok for me. The fish had a lot of bones and there wasn't enough of the soy based sauce nor was there enough of the green onions. SCALLOP: - Each person received a serving of this steamed scallop. The scallops were steamed and tasted succulent. FISH SOUP: - This fish head soup was bland. They did add the shrimp heads for us though. CRAB: - My mom regretted adding the crab as we were all full at this point. The crab was steamed and presented with a side of white vinegar sauce. The legs were partially cracked so it made for easier eating. The crab tasted fresh and the crab claw was delicious. Service was fine. The restaurant wasn't busy so it was a nicely paced lunch with minimal background noise. I was happy my mom picked Tresors de la Mer as it would have been madness eating at the restaurants inside Addiction Aquatic Development. The total that meal was about $40 per person which wasn't too bad considering the amount of food and drinks we had. NOTE: ** CASH ONLY ** It makes me shake my head that the restaurant is cash only just like the market. Tresors de la Mer is a fancier restaurant inside this fish market but it's worth the experience if you want to splurge a bit.

Yelp
Great Taipei Seafood that is FRESH! And when I say fresh, you're pretty much choosing your seafood out of a fish tank upon arrival. We even placed our crab in a hot pot and it began to squirm around slowly. Yum! Anyways, we ordered the sashimi and hot pot set both made for 4 people. If you're going with 4 or more people, I recommend trying both the sashimi and the hot pot option. My personal favorite was the sashimi due to its taste and layout. Despite ordering a lot of food, our total came out to about $95 US dollars for the four of us! An unbeatable price for fresh seafood. When asking locals where to get great seafood, everyone recommended this place. Personally, I vow to return when I come back to Taipei and I highly recommend this place to any seafood lover! CONS: Cash only!! The staff also speak very little English, so we had a little bit of difficulty with our limited language skills.

Yelp
One of my favourite hot pot place in Taipei, the seafood is so fresh and the sashimi is top notch. I love how fresh everything is. You can also order hand rolls that's made freshly in front of you. They give you a small menu with all the hand roll options. Their price is fairly reasonable and you get the freshest seafood. They choose bonito fish stock so you can taste the seafood, the soup is great to drink after cooking as well. Only con about this place is that it's cash only, so prepare yourself to bring all the cash to pay for the meal.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! Best tip I can give cause its all cash! Have you ever been to the supermarket and thought to yourself "Damn I really want to cook this like right now" Well basically you can do that here. Hotpot, grilled, sushi, boiled, you can do that here. Food is fresh and fairly cheap compared to the states. I mean look at this omakase for less than 30 dollars https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/%E4%B8%8A%E5%BC%95%E6%B0%B4%E7%94%A2-%E4%B8%AD%E5%B1%B1%E5%8D%80?select=U_XVbYGPO0E2XeFQxAqHiw Service is quick and friendly; although it helps if you speak Chinese. FYI, this is the same place https://www.yelp.com/biz/%E4%B8%8A%E5%BC%95%E6%B0%B4%E7%94%A2-%E4%B8%AD%E5%B1%B1%E5%8D%80

Yelp
I'm between a 4 or a 5 for this place. It's probably one of the coolest seafood restaurants I've been to, with the food live and fresh right in front of you. But, I felt like everything did not come at a fair or cheap price (when compared to a lot of the new restaurants that have opened up). I was in a party of two and ordered their largest multi dish combo to share. I thought most everything was great, but did have some slight criticisms. The king crab leg's meat was extremely stuck to the shell, took us a solid 10 minutes to break up and extract the meat from the one leg we had. The soup was a little bland and the fish in it was quite tough. Besides that, food-wise this place is great. I thought service was disorganized but very average. It doesn't seem like waiters have assigned tables, they just kind of take whatever dishes that come out and put in orders from whatever tables that are ordering, all that leads to a bit of chaos in the kitchen (the kitchen was right in front of us and we could see everything being prepared). Service took a while, we could see the backlog of orders they had along with the fully packed restaurant. I see this as a problem for older folks such as my dad because he has knee problems and this place is entirely standing. As soon as we were done and paid, they also just basically ushered us out quickly. I don't go to higher end Taiwanese restaurants often, but I wonder if service is this chaotic and mediocre at others. Anyways, if you're just looking for great food, this place does a great job :)

Yelp
Open until late! One of my favourite seafood restaurant. Pick the fish you want at the entrance and just enjoy. Service is great, usually packed so do book in advance. The wasabi is absolutely divine.

Yelp
Sit down restaurant located upstairs in the Addiction Aquatic Development complex. Features selection of hand rolls, sashimi, and cooked seafood that you first order at the first floor entrance before you sit down. The selections are all amazingly fresh and some are alive in tanks. The young lady at the entrance did her best with my limited Chinese and she helped me select a fried rice dish, stir fried greens, large prawns, clams (Quahog size), and a 'Taiwanese' whole fish. I had no idea how any of the seafood selections were to be prepared but I put my faith in her. Upstairs we were seated in a nice room at a beautiful long copper clad table. These tables are communal but we were seated to ourselves. The wine by the glass was excellent, a French Sauvignon Blanc. However service was inconsistent and honestly not very good considering the upscale nature of the place. It felt like the servers only role was to bring out the food. They didn't seem to have a clue as to what the customer needed (place settings, more drinks, etc). The hand rolls are made table side and were delicious. The fried rice came with shrimp and the stir fried greens was lightly seasoned with minimal garlic compared to most places we've been. The large prawns were grilled and were overcooked. The Quahogs were served in the shell in a flavorful dashi broth. The fish was split in half down the middle, steamed, and served whole in a flavorful gingery broth with tofu. It was kept warm over a flame. Delicious. Overall I liked this restaurant. It is pricier than most in Taipei. I expect a certain level of professional service at upscale establishments like this one and that they not overcook their seafood. Otherwise worth a visit.

Yelp
CASH only! This the sit down restaurant area of Addiction Aquatic Development's fish market. A more high end with a list of wines offers to go with your seafood dining. Before you go up to the dining area, you MUST point & pick out which live seafood you want to eat at the entrance, because they won't seat you until you have ordered what you wanted to eat. Once you have ordered, they will seat you in the 2nd or 3rd floor dining area, where staff will bring hot towels and take drinks order. After dining, they will offered complimentary fresh fruits of the season! AMAZING!

Yelp
Amazeballs. This is the BEST of Aquatic Addiction - literally - you can get raw food, hotpot, grilled, steamed etc- allll the ways you can imagine to eat these delicious and fresh seafood they have to offer. The grilled shrimp and fish to me, has always been a must-order. The massive clams - steamed in sake, is awesome. drink the sake-soup after But the best part for me, is actually their sashimi and handroll!! Sashimi is super well-priced and generous in size. Handroll they have a chef that wheels the handroll station/cart in front of your table, they roast the seaweed on charcoal grill and make it super duper fresh in front of you. also, the fresh wasabi (which you have to grind yourself - is tasty and fun). Go go go. this place is awesome.

Yelp
Really good place for seafood! After you're seated, you go to the front of the shop where they have the menu board as well as their seafood options and ingredients all spread out. You tell one of the attendants what you want from their spread and you also can choose how you want it to be cooked. The options are grilled, hotpot/ boiled, or sashimi for the seafood options. For veggie dishes you can specify how you want it prepared and with what type of seasoning. I really like the veggie dishes they prepared and the stewed shrimp dish was wonderful. The seasoning and glass noodles they paired it with went well together. It's also a good place to go if you don't want to wait for the hotpot place at addiction aquatic. Since they serve sashimi, hotpot, and grilled seafood, it's a good place to go if you're in a group that wants to eat together but can't decide between the standing sushi bar, the outdoor grill, and the hotpot restaurant at addiction aquatic. Of course the options aren't as vast as the other restaurants who focus solely on one method of cooking, but they have enough variety for a good meal.

Yelp
Service no good--the receptionist was impatient and not friendly, then it was not busy hours but they gave us shared table till I asked for our own private table, didn't clean up the tables actively, forgot one order.... it doesn't worth the money at all.

Yelp
Everything is really good. The ambiance, the service, but mostly the food (Wow!!!!). You have to really watch yourself or you can easily over eat. Definitely a place to come back to. You should also spend time exploring the Japanese food market and the fabulous fish market. Don't forget to also check out the eateries too. So go and enjoy yourself.

Yelp
I was very impressed with this place! The system is a little bit strange at first, but it works very well. There's a large icechest with all their fresh fish (and it's VERY fresh. No cloudy eyes or fish smell!) MONSTER crab legs, and some vegetables. You choose what you eat, and the host asks how you want it prepared (grilled, fried, hotpot, etc.). You go upstairs and they bring it up once its prepared. There's also a small hand-made sushi roll stand and they prepare it in front of you. I ordered a whole snapper, some mushrooms, and one of the biggest tiger prawns I've seen. The worst part? The hostess said if I wanted more, I could always walk downstairs and order more! I dont think my stomach could hold more! Cash only BTW!

Yelp
The oysters are fresh. There's no fishy smell. This is a high quality aquarium seafood restaurant. It is a little bit pricey, but it would be an ideal place to treat your VIP guest.
