Tri

"Though it’s just 20 minutes drive from buzzy, boho Galle, the just-opened Tri feels like some sort of secret, remote sanctuary built in the middle of nowhere. It helps, of course, that it’s tucked away in a jungle on the shores of Koggala Lake, consisting of just 11 villas that literally disappear into the lush landscape thanks to leafy living walls. Private plunge pools and sunset-facing terraces only heighten the bliss of seclusion—though there are countless reasons to venture out. For one, there’s a luxurious spa, with a steam cavern and treetop yoga studio; then there’s the delicious, superfood-packed Sri Lankan fare served at the lakefront restaurant. But the best part about Tri? It’s eco-friendly to boot, with green roofs, solar panels, and even a rainwater system that’ll help lessen the environmental footprint of your stay."

A Review of Tri Lanka | Hotels Above Par

"An upmarket, eco-conscious lakeside retreat tucked at the end of a dirt road on Lake Koggala—about a 40-minute drive from Galle and 20 minutes from Ahangama—this intimate property channels quiet luxury through thoughtful design and sustainability. Designed by architect Raefer Wallis and photographer Rob Drummond with a blueprint inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, its signature cinnamon-clad water tower houses guest suites and offers 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. With just 11 ultra-luxurious suites (three with private pools), highlights include a world-class infinity pool overlooking the lake, a family villa with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame glowing orange-hued sunrises, a spa featuring a steam cavern and treetop yoga, kayaking, a well-stocked library, and a fitness center. The on-site restaurant serves a mix of international and Sri Lankan dishes focused on fresh, locally sourced ingredients (and an especially praised fresh mango juice), while multiple terraces provide relaxed spots for cocktails and taking in the views. Sustainability is woven into the fabric of the property through the use of local timber and recycled materials, and practical details to note are rates starting around $600/night, a minibar that stocks water, and limited late-night room service hours; the nearest major airport is roughly a 2.5-hour drive away."

Tri was an unforgettable stay we encountered. It’s surrounded by Koggala lake and it’s ideal for a relaxing and unwinding holiday. The place is so quiet and calm. The only noises you’ll hear will be the birds and monkeys around. The food was delicious and the staff was really friendly. The road leading to the hotel is a bit narrow but it is accessible. We booked the Sunset Villa but they upgraded us to the Lake villa, which was spacious and the pool in the villa was nice too. Their high tea is highly recommended.

Had an excellent vacation at Tri. Service provided by Thilina, Chandana and the rest of the staff was more than noteworthy. All our requirements were met with a smile. They really went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. Food was tasty and portions were well enough. Beautiful views.|We stayed in the lake view pool villa. Villa was very spacious and clean.

A slice of serene paradise – with exceptional hospitality||Tri Koggala is one of those rare places that genuinely feels like a secret getaway—peaceful, elegant, and completely in tune with its natural surroundings. From the moment we arrived, everything was thoughtful and seamless. We were warmly welcomed by Thilina, the manager, who went above and beyond throughout our stay to ensure we felt cared for in every detail.||The Sri Lankan food here is absolutely amazing—flavorful, authentic, and beautifully presented. Whether it was breakfast with coconut roti or a candlelit dinner by the lake, every meal was a delight. The kitchen clearly takes pride in showcasing the best of local cuisine, and it shows.||Traveling with a toddler isn’t always easy, but Tri made it effortless. The team surprised our 2-year-old daughter with a charming elephant towel art, which absolutely made her day, and ours. These little touches really set Tri apart.||We also really appreciated the smooth logistics: airport pick-up and drop-off were arranged with ease, and we had a great trip to Galle organized through the hotel. Everything was handled with quiet efficiency, so we could simply relax and soak in the beauty around us.||Our lakeside villa was stunning – private, peaceful, and designed with such care. Waking up to the sunrise over the lake through the glass doors was something truly special. The infinity pool overlooking Koggala Lake, the ancient Banyan tree, and the calm, stylish atmosphere of the whole property made it hard to leave.||Tri Koggala is not just a place to stay—it’s an experience, and one that we’ll always treasure. Thank you, Thilina and the entire team, for making our family feel so welcomed and looked after. We can’t wait to return.

This was our first trip to Sri Lanka, and we chose this lakeside hotel to escape the hustle and bustle of the city — and it fully lived up to our expectations. We spent a whole week here, enjoying the peace, nature, and calm atmosphere. The staff deserves special praise — always nearby, helpful, and kind, even during the low season when there weren’t many guests. There’s a small but well-equipped gym — clean and has everything you need. The food was fresh and tasty, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cocktails at the bar. Definitely try the massage at the spa — it was a great way to relax and unwind. One evening, the team surprised us with a romantic dinner — they beautifully set up a table in a quiet, cozy spot. Everything was thoughtfully arranged, and it turned into one of the sweetest memories of our stay 😍 You can also take a boat trip across the lake to a nearby island where a local family shares how they grow and process cinnamon — a unique and atmospheric little adventure. If you’re looking for a place to relax your body and soul, surrounded by nature, with attentive service and total peace — this is the perfect choice. Highly recommend! I’d choose this hotel again thanks to the amazing care and attention we received 🤍

Tri is one of the most wonderful hotels which I have ever stayed at, and I would definitely stay here again! The hotel design is stunning, the grounds are pristine, and my bedroom (Lake side suite) was spacious, fitted to a high standard, and benefited from gorgeous views. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I appreciated the tranquility of this hotel in low season. My only suggestion for improvement would be the provision of a fridge and kettle in the room. Thank you for an amazing stay 🙏🏻

It is a beautifully architectured boutique hotel located on the more calmer side of the Koggala lake. If you notice and enjoy architecture design details, you’d appreciate this property. The pool, surprisingly 7ft or more deep at the deep-end, was amazing to dip in the mornings and evenings. Food was decent (7/10) but somewhat limited (veg, fish and chicken only). Overall service was okay. The gentleman who waited us at the restaurant and the bartender at the pool bar truly made an effort to ensure we were well take care of. Internet connection was great. Sustainable practices. Plenty of refilled glass water bottles. The access road to expect is a typical Koggala inroad; narrow and windy. Wish there was a fridge in the room. QR code to menus and services mentioned a happy hour but upon inquiry, we’re told it’s not available, which was disappointing. Overall, nice serene stay, fair value given the location and property design.
