The 16 Best Breakfast Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Located on Hialeah’s most Hialeah street (49th street), Trigo Café is a Cuban and Spanish diner that makes excellent sandwiches (we love their Elena Ruz) and Cuban coffee. Breakfast here can be as delightfully simple as a cafe con leche with a tostada and delicious croquetas (which they get from Islas Canarias). But for something heartier, go on Sunday, the only day they offer a brunch menu with chicken and waffles, huevos a la flamenca, and a “Hialeah comfort” plate—two fried eggs, white rice, and plantains for under $6." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino

The 16 Best Restaurants In Hialeah - Miami - The Infatuation

"Located on Hialeah’s most Hialeah street (49th street), this diner makes really good cuban sandwiches and serves the best croquetas in Miami (because they get them from Islas Canarias). A meal here can be as delightfully simple as cafe con leche with a tostada and croquetas. But it can also be a nice piece of churrasco and a glass of wine from their wine and tapas bar right next door. Our 11 Favorite Cuban Restaurants In Hialeah - Miami - The Infatuation

"Take a traditional breakfast diner, add a Cuban twist, and you get Trigo Café. This tiny cafe has just a few tables and some seats at the bar. They offer mainly breakfast and sandwiches, but also have daily specials like ropa vieja, crema de malanga, or vaca frita. If you’re like us and are always dreaming of the Islas Canarias croquetas, you’ll be happy to know that Trigo has them and now you don’t have to drive all the way to Tamiami. They put them to good use in their croqueta preparada too. This is a breakfast spot and the traditional Cuban breakfast comes with all the fixings: tostada, cafe con leche, and french fries. Their brunch menu is a mix of Cuban and American staples too, like french toast and a luscious shrimp and grits. You’ll also want to try their milkshakes, which are decadent and pair really well with those croquetas." - yuliet llanes

Google
Trigo did not let us down. The authentic Cuban / Spaniard food was delicious. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the staff was attentive and genuinely friendly, and the food… absolutely incredible.

Google
This is a hidden gem in Hialeah! The food was delicious and my favorite was the Trigo milkshake!!! Its a must get if you go. The customer service was amazing. Sadly I don’t remember the waitress name but she made sure to explain the menu and the recommendations she gave us was delicious. Will be going back for sure!!

Google
Can honestly say I usually order from here through Uber eats and door dash. Today was my first visit in person and I was attended by rude and condescending staff Carolina. She will be the reason I will never visit this location again. What a shame because I was pleased through takeout. I asked for an iced cafe con leche and she didn’t ask me the size and I ended up with an iced coffee in this cup.

Google
We had a very enjoyable evening w delicious food, excellent service and a great atmosphere.

Google
This place needs new management and new cooks and for the cook to be supervise cause every time I have gone to eat here the food is always burnt Last year/Got chicken and waffles and croquetas the chicken is burnt and super salty like my son couldn’t even eat it. The croquetas burn also and taste like old burnt oil. this place is loosing quality by the day.

Google
Best Shakes In Hialeah! The name fits its best drink "Trigo" shake. Oh and they offer dairy free shakes as well. Love their unique breakfast menu and lunch options. Truly a hidden gem 💎 in Hialeah. The pictures speak for itself. Definitely will be coming back!

Google
Just left Trigo Cafe with my family. The staff was extremely friendly. We do not know a lot of Cuban meals, however, Julio and Kathy explained the menu to us and I could tell they were happy to do so. The customer service there was really on another level that I wasn't expecting. The Cuban sandwiches were great. The Yucca fries are amazing. The croquettes and empanadas were so good you could just go there to have a meal of those (many varieties). The Trigo Milkshake was very tasty--we would get again, it consisted of this unique puffed wheat milk combination that we've never had in a dessert before. To top it all off, the dessert, which is made by the owner's 85 year old mother, is something you need to try. Oh, and the flan, it was truly the best Flan I've ever had! We don't live around here but when we come back we will be coming here.

Google
The worst experience I have had. Ordered breakfast and ordered the eggs over easy with the whites cooked. My eggs were burnt and the whites were raw and slimy on my egg. I let Caro, the recommended manager, know about my eggs and she didn’t even ask me if I wanted my eggs to be cooked to enjoy my food she just said that she put in the order correctly and I left my eggs since the term of the egg were disgusting. My mom’s eggs were also the same consistency as mine and my mother explained to Caro that she has a chronic kidney illness and is immunosuppressant, and she still ignored that and didn’t offer my mom to take her food to get a cooked a bit more. She also didn’t provide water to my aunt and had a sort of attitude with us. $40 wasted on such a low quality food. She should be taken off as manager!!

Yelp
Love this mom and pop restaurant. The owners are the nicest and love their customers. Great food choices. Their tapas and wine selections are amazing. Truly a hidden jewel.

Yelp
Always an amazing spot in the heart of Hialeah. Very cozy and family friendly. Despite them being soo busy at peak times, they are always attentive to offering a great service and meeting all customers requests. Always going back.

Yelp
Anyeli our waitress did a wonderful job taking our order, making recommendations, we also had numerous off the cuff questions about the menu. This place is not fancy, but the food is delicious. Only the local people are aware of its existence. If you're in the area, I highly recommend that you give it an opportunity.

Yelp
Trigo is the bomb dot come when it comes to a fusion of Spanish tapas and Cuban American delights. My favorite time to visit is during Sunday brunches. I've tried a variety of dishes on the brunch menu and you can't go wrong - from the French toast (served with sweetened condensed milk - hello!?) to shrimp and grits. They also serve Islas Canarias croquetas which is a god send and saves us a trip to Kendall. I've also tried their trigo shake which is a yummy treat and their cafe bonbon which is a dessert in of itself. Service in my experience has been great; wait staff attentive to tables and checking in on orders. Im glad they opened up their space as it used to be very cramped. I'm looking forward to trying dinner here again. Overall a can't go wrong spot for brunch in Hialeah.

Yelp
Kind of pricey! Food is ok . I personally would never order the huevos quebrados, . Can say about other plates I've been there a couple times and both time order the same thing by mistake.

Ileana J.

Yelp
Sad to say i usually avoid Cuban restaurants due to customer service. Yet, I often visited this cafe until Cuban fatigue hit . I made an order and they brought wrong items then told me I ordered it wrong refusing any responsibly or mediation. (Like eat what you got ) . There is nothing more humbly than admitting you are wrong . Repeating an order is so important!!
google avatar

Yelp
The service here it's amazing from every worker that works there very positive very happy and they treat you amazing the food is delicious. My kids love going there. Can't wait to go back anybody from around the world that's in the area. Please stop by. It is very, very, very good. I have no complaints with my kids and my family. Let me know what you think. Enjoy it. Good vibes only.

Yelp
I've been here several times over the years and this place does not disappoint. Hands down the best Trigo shake in town! Food is always good and you will always see the owners, who are the nicest people, behind the counter. A true hidden gem in Hialeah!

Yelp
Great spot! We were seated immediately. Two spaces available to accommodate many people. Love the quaint family atmosphere. Amazing food!! Wonderful service. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
cute little nook on 49th street in hialeah, this place gets packed, however it is a small location. The breakfast is good, however, the chicken croquetas (not pictured here) are F I R E, so good!! i will come back just for the croquetas. I don't even like croquetas, so that's how you know they were amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow is just an understatement i have been to Trigo a few times and never tried the pan con croqueta till today. It was so delicious! it had islas canarias croquetas on the inside with Swiss cheese and i added papitas juliana for the final touch. Also couldn't forget the trigo shake which made it the right combination. I ordered online through Uber eats and the order was done pretty quickly, picked up in store where the waitress welcomed me and handed me my order. Absolutely love this hidden gem in Hialeah.

Yelp
Mileidys.

Yelp
I just keep coming back! Trigo is such a delight! The owners are lovely and the food is always spot on. Even when it's busy, everything is always warm and inviting. It has that old school Miami/Cuban feel with a modern twist. Their food is delicious. From their croquetas to their bonbon. My personal favorite is the merenguitos, but "merengotes" would be a more accurate description. They also have a great brunch menu on the weekends and have expanded to include a wine and tapas room. Just amazing!
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
Good feels very home made they have a huge variety. We want to come back to try other items in the menu. Service is great. Get your Google translate ready because Spanish only. The place is very clean and well taken care of. We were curious about the Trigo milkshake and the best way to describe is what my husband said "It tastes like the milk after you finish your cereal bowl" and it sure does. It's good, but not my cup of tea.

Yelp
Trigo Cafe is such a gem - I can't believe it took me so long to go! I went for a friend's birthday party and was so impressed with how gracious the owners were - they set up a little area in the back for our murder mystery party. I had some incredible Primitivo to drink as well as pan con tomate and gambas del ajillo. I did not take any pictures (fail on my part), but everything was absolutely delicious. The space is also SUPER cute - really solid choice for a great night out.
google avatar

Yelp
Five star for sure! Trigo cafe is Hialeah greatness! The restaurant is small, however with the bar seating, my kids and I could fit our big party inside comfortably. Service was prompt, friendly and very knowledgeable. We has a big party with a big order, and our server got it right the first time around! She was awesome. The food was just the same, awesome! One of my daughters has the French toast, to which she said was Amazing. As I cannot have gluten anymore, I had the Hialeah comfort breakfast with eggs, rice and maduros(sweet plaintains) to which was as the name explained, a real comfort breakfast for me and not to mention, delicious!! The eggs were done just right, the rice soft and the maduros sweet. Yum-tastic!!! I also had a guava mimosa which was equally good. All five stars deserved! The kids and I will be back(as usual )

Daphanie H.

Yelp
I feel like I have almost had everything on the menu! We come here so often that the servers already know us- I'm unsure why I had not done a review before! Anytime that I am there, the place is always packed but the service is still amazing! We love everything from the food to the staff and how nice and helpful they are. I would 100/10 recommend this place! I wish I had more pictures!

Yelp
This little elevated Cuban cafeteria is EVERYTHING. Discovered it on a random afternoon with my best friend and have been going back ever since. I had to take my mom here for Sunday brunch. She absolutely loved it! Both of us had the Morning Glory which comes with all the goods (bacon, scrambled eggs, tater tots, tostada, cafe con leche, 2 croquetas)s The Isla Canaria croquetas are the absolute best. The serving is large and is great for the price. The service is always quick and the staff is always extremely friendly and welcoming. This is my new go-to breakfast spot. Will be returning!
google avatar

Taimi L.

Yelp
I'd give 0 stars if I could. Sat for 10 mins and no one acknowledged me until I asked who serves the bar. Requested water and was told to wait. Then Carolina returns making all kinds of faces because she's annoyed I asked for service. Ordered the grits with creole sauce. There's only grease; see photo. Was told no cheese on the grits. As soon as I took a bite it tasted like pure goat cheese. I brought it to her attn and she denied the plate has cheese; clearly doesn't know menu. I should've read the menu but didn't because waitress recommended it. My husband ate half his breakfast and still no shake or cafe con leche. See photo. Appetizers were brought and no plates for sharing. Asked another waitress and no help because she doesn't handle the bar. No utensils. DISASTER!

Yelp
Our group of 5 stopped in for a late lunch. The staff was kind and place was clean and bright. The Cuban sandwich was good - what you'd expect. Two of us had the Serrano ham, manchego and tomato sandwich and really enjoyed it, a good balance. The steak sandwich was probably the least successful of our offerings, but the fries were super crispy and exceptionally good. The burger with cheese and fried egg was devoured with delight and the black beans were phenomenal.
google avatar

Rosemary S.

Yelp
Friendly staff. The steak sandwich/pan con bistec was flavorless, dry and a full disappointment. Needless to say I am not recommending that sandwich to anyone. Their wheat milkshake on the other hand was very good.
google avatar

José D.

Yelp
What happened to your extra crispy fries? These are blah, regular. Sandwich was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this cute little cafe called Trigo Cafe in Hialeah, Florida. Love the ambiance and the paintings in the place are so beautiful and breathtaking. I thought one was an actual picture. But let's get to the food. The food was very good. I got the Cuban sandwich and the classic egg sandwich. The Cuban sandwich was very good compared to the one I tried that was on the Travel Food network. The bread was nice and toasted and there was a good bread to meat ratio. The egg sandwich was also tasty with the chorizo. We got there early and when we left it started to get very busy What a nice find. Will come again

Yelp
You can't go wrong ordering any item on this menu. The location is homey and the owners are amazing.

Yelp
Update 8/6/2023: I have been here many times and I have nothing but good things to say about this family operated hidden gem in the heart of Hialeah. Had the pleasure of meeting the Chef and his wife and they're just the most down to earth, delightful restaurant owners I've ever met. The service is also top notch and the food is to die for but now they've incorporated a few Spanish inspired dishes in the brunch menu that just took it to the next level because if brunch was phenomenal before, it just became astronomical. I'd recommend the Pisto Manchego, kind of replacing the old "Gipsy" but arguably a better dish, I've had the Huevos Rotos before and it's delicious, the croquetas are addicting, the Trigo Montecristo which is a incredibly unique and mouthwatering and the burger which is one of the best brunch burgers in town. I've also tried other dishes like the avocado toast, yuca fries, chicken and waffles, Hialeah comfort and the Jockey, all equally delectable. I have to come back to try the Shrimp and Grits "Sureño" and visit for dinner to try the Spanish tapas next door, more excuses to come back to this lovely gem of a restaurant.
google avatar

Marylin G.

Yelp
Finally a Cuban restaurant that is divine. Wow, wow, wow! I had their Serrano with manchego cheese on a toasted baguette style bread. It was actually Spanish Serrano, not the stuff people buy at supermarket. We also tried the ham croqueta. It was equally amazing. You have to come and see for yourself. Service was excellent. Our servers Carolina, Angie and Yarlen served as if this was a high end restaurant. So much for my diet. The restaurant was very stylish. For the boozers they have a large selection of beer. For the rest .. make sure you try one of their milkshakes. I plan to return this week.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Trigo Café was a great experience overall. The empanadas were fresh and full of flavor, and the Trigo Burger was absolutely booming with taste. It was juicy, well-seasoned, and really satisfying. The service stood out too. The staff was attentive and checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. The place had a really comfortable and welcoming feel that made the whole meal even better. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I have been here quite a few times. This review is for my visit today. I came on a Saturday around noonish. Wanted to stop by for a quick bite before shopping and going about my day. I went to the counter and asked to be seated. Very simple for one person. Was offered a spot on the counter in between other guests. It was a very tight fit and would have been bumping elbows the entire time. I told the lady it was too tight for anyone to sit, so she offered me a small table on the side where they have the wines and tapas. I said sure, I'll take that table. I sat and waited for 15 minutes for someone. After being unattended, I walked backed to the counter to ask is someone was going to attend me? A lady by the name of Carolina, said you've been there for a while, didn't you eat already? Like are you kidding me? Told her I had been sitting there all this time and no one even bothered to come to wipe the dirty table, let alone give me a menu, or anything. Do not come on a weekend morning, because they clearly can't handle it. You can definitely tell the owners were not there. It was very disappointing.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
After 24 hours of cancelled flights and being stranded alone in Miami with no luggage, etc... This was the perfect place to lift my spirits. The spot is cozy, food was delicious, and service was even better. My Spanish is very minimal and the women here were very warm and accommodating. If I were a local, I would be back.
google avatar

Natalie L.

Yelp
Best tortilla española in Hialeah! Their coffee is always great and they serve Isla Canarias croquetas, so it's a nice way to enjoy them without having to trek all the way down to South Miami. Tried their burger for the first time the other night and was not impressed (tasted like a Bubba burger, if I'm being honest). Love Trigo for a.m. grub, but Idk if i'd try 'em for dinner again.
google avatar

Maria R.

Yelp
We had heard so much about this place from Instagram, we decided to try it out. Big mistake. Place was empty; only 2 tables occupied. Our server, a young lady with glasses seemed very annoyed. She was not welcoming at all. Ordered 2 cuban steak sandwiches. THE WORST STEAK SANDWICHES EVER!!!! TINY DRI TASTELESS PIECE OF MEAT , 3 LITTLE ONIONS, AND A TINY TINY BIT OF LITTLE BITS OF FRIES. BASICALLY IT WAS JUST BREAD. The owner came by and asked how was the food. We expressed our dislike and that was it. No offer to replace, no offer for a discount, no offer for anything. Just walked away into the kitchen. Stay away from this place. If they can't get a simple steak sandwich right....you know the rest. Why didn't we return it...I am very hesitant to return food because I don't know what they will do in the back.
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The ambience on the diner side is bright while the dinner side has a Spanish flair. Trigo has amazing, friendly service. The owner takes the time to visit my table every time I visit. He always makes great wine recommendations that pair well with my meals. The food is prepared home style with fresh ingredients. Everything is reasonably priced. It's a gem in the City of Hialeah!
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
All I can say is best croquette preparada I ever had! And if you'd like a nostalgic moment don't leave without the Trigo shake!

Dorelys N.

Yelp
I was very impressed by this little gem of a restaurant. We made reservations to sit in the tapas/wine section to celebrate my friend's birthday and were surprised by their big wine selection. All the tapas we ordered were delicious and the service was exceptional. I will definitely be returning soon!

Yelp
Great spot in Hialeah with amazing food. I started with the Trigo Shake. I'm not one to order a shake but I am so glad I did. I also ordered the Yuca Fries and the Croqueta Preparada sandwich. I finished it with a Cortadito. Absolutely amazing staff and experience! I can't wait to visit this charming place again!

Yelp
This place deserves 1029929383 stars. Just saying. My friend and I live in Ft Lauderdale, we were in the area and she was craving a Cuban sandwich. This place came up as highly suggested so we decided to stop in. I'm so glad we did. I ordered the croqueta preparada. Let me tell you something, you cannot find this north of the border. So when in Hialeah, this is a MUST HAVE. The sandwich was perfectly pressed, the croquetas were so freakin good. I think they get them from isla canarias which is KNOWN to have the best croquetas. Everything about this sandwich, fire. We also ordered the yuca fries and tostones currently salivating writing this post. AMAZING. She had the chicken Cuban sandwich. I can't remember the name but also, delicioso. Perfectly pressed, she did the baguette instead of Cuban bread as recommended by the waitress. AMAZING. We also went on the day there would be a Cuba parade. The staff was so nice getting us our food quickly and helping us get out of there before the traffic got insane I will be craving Trigo for as long as I'm in Broward. Please support this little business. They are wonderful and you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
It's super cute inside , loved the atmosphere . I didn't eat but it looks good , the coffee was yummy :)

Allisson T.

Yelp
Last night we went to eat at Trigo after seeing the reviews, to begin with, the waitress had a very bad attitude, we ordered pan con bistec, the steak didn't taste like anything, I had to put salt, pepper and mayonnaise on it to be able to eat it, apart from that the meat was tough , two pieces of white onion and the chips were barely visible, first and last time.

Yelp
Shoutout to the Hialeah millennials for putting this spot on the map & bringing a spot like this to fruition. Yes, they have avocado toast inside a little Cuban breakfast diner which makes this place the best of both worlds. I ordered the Jockey breakfast special on their brunch menu and added rice to it for the full carb overload feeling. I asked for an Iced Cortadito with evaporated milk which was creamy and hit the spot in every way. As I awaited my food, I couldn't help but stare at everyone else plate in the restaurant. I noticed the couple next to me had ordered the avocado toast topped with a hearty fried chicken breast. Man, it looked so good. The girl in front of us had ordered the Flamenco style eggs known as The Gypsy as she stirred her yolky eggs over some crispy bread...yes, I was paying very close attention to every dish I saw around me. The food came rather quickly and was very filling. My entire meal costed me $17 with tip which was pretty good for the amount of food I received. I'd gladly return to this little café for their casual dining located in the heart of Hialeah for a quick and no-frills easy meal.

Yelp
we discovered this place around a few months ago, and though it might be a twenty minute drive from our house, it is always worth it! the food came out fast and we enjoyed it very much; it is always fresh and delicious! the service was also on point . and the inside of Trigo is decorated very nice with a bunch of different types of art! overall great place!

Yelp
Had a pleasure dining at Trigo Café. We had a wonderful experience with their customer service. The staff was so polite and kind and knew the menu very well. We got delicious food and an amazing milkshakes. And the portion and ingredients were generous and reasonable. I also enjoy the croquetas very much.  The place has pretty nice interior, classy, and comfy. Totally back over again!

Yelp
Amazing food and the price even better. We sat at the bar and the service was great. Loved this spot

Yelp
Do not miss the opportunity to check this place out when you're in Hialeah. You will not regret it. Unique delicious menu with warm and friendly hospitality Beer, wine and tapas coming soon morning breakfast, lunch and dinner will not disappoint. We tried the Hialeah comfort white rice with friend eggs and plantains and Shrimp and grits were out of this world

Yelp
Place was closed at 1 pm on a Friday. Was not able to have the experience. This post does not let me me post this if I don't keep writing. LOL!

Yelp
Pros: Delicious food, excellent service, very clean establishment. I love everything about this place! I had a beautiful omelet and a great cafecito. Cons: Limited seating.
